The taste of the Islands is the right size and price to split in two. It is somehow the best tilapia I've ever had? PRO TIP: Added the coconut shrimp sauce to the fish would highly recommend! I don't know if it's pure nostalgia, but this place has a special place in our hearts. I went here when I was young and now getting to bring the kids here. The menu is very extensive, something for everyone. The littles get their own to order from pictures and color. They have their own drink and dessert menu. They celebrate your birthday along with any orders of volcano dessert. There was a balloon artist walking around (for tips) and a character to take pictures. The ambiance is key here, a wall of aquarium, moving animals, lightening show on a timer. Everything we've ordered here is flavorful and good in quantity. The downside is that you have to walk through a full gift shop which is hard to do with littles without them being distracted. Also parking lot is usually busy but eventually you can find a spot. The Rainforest Cafe in Galveston didn't disappoint! We were part of a large group, but the staff treated us with the same attention and care you'd expect as a much smaller party. The experience was exactly what we were hoping for, an adventure-filled outing that the whole family enjoyed. It had been several years since our last visit, and the food was actually better than we remembered. Everyone found something they enjoyed, and the meals exceeded our expectations. The ride was also a big hit with the kids and added to the fun atmosphere. The only thing that wasn't quite as impressive as we remembered was the erupting volcano outside. Over the years, some of the fire features appear to have stopped working, so the dramatic effect isn't quite what it once was. Even so, it was still fun to watch and remains an iconic part of the experience. Overall, we had a great time and left with happy memories. Rainforest Cafe, the atmosphere was fun and entertaining but the food was disappointing and highly overpriced. The appeal is definitely geared towards kids. They make it fun and exciting with all the animals and animal sounds. Some animals hang from the trees and even move every now and then. The lights dim low periodically and it can feel like you're in a rainforest with the rumbling sound of thunder. Fun and enjoyable for the kids. A cool place for birthday parties as well. We took our kids and celebrated their birthdays at the Rainforest Cafe in Disney Springs in Florida and were satisfied with the experience. But if you're planning on going to have dinner with your adult children, it's not as exciting nor entertaining. Their menu doesn't only cater to kids, they have an extensive menu that adults can enjoy. For what we ordered and paid for, I wouldn't go back just to have dinner. read more

While this is a childhood favorite for many because of the rainforest atmosphere, animatronic animals, and the river ride, I was curious how the food actually compares. My friends and I decided to stop by for lunch while we were in Galveston and made a reservation for around 11 am. When we arrived, it was nearly empty, so we were seated right away, and our waitress was very friendly. Going in with low expectations, I ordered the Fish-N-Chips for $25.29 and was surprised by the portion size. The plate came with three very large pieces of fish, each nearly the length of the plate. I could only finish about one and a half pieces. While they were a bit greasy, they were also very crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The malt vinegar on the table helped balance out the oiliness. The coconut curry tropical slaw was a nice addition and added a bit of brightness, though I wish there had been more of it. The fries were decent and nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, the food exceeded my expectations for a place that is more known for its theme than its menu. While it is not somewhere I would go specifically for the food, the generous portions and solid execution make it a worthwhile part of the overall experience if you are already there for the atmosphere. read more

Why 3 stars? Because it's exactly what I expected it would be. --- --- --- My favorite part of vacation is trying the great eateries of the area I'm staying in. And while staying in Galveston for a few days, we were checking some really enjoyable places off the list. But while I was walking along the beach one morning, my wife texted me these fateful words: "Just warning you: the kids want to go to Rainforest Cafe tonight and we are making plans to do that." My heart sank. Wasting perfectly good calories on a tourist trap? Pain. So much pain. But because I'm such a great husband, uncle, brother-in-law and son-in-law, I obliged. This self-less act led me to a lengthy debate of the menu options. Should I just do the unthinkable and get a salad since I know I won't be missing anything with the rest of the menu? Should I get something seafood-y while I'm at the beach? Should I eat nothing at all? While I considered all of the above, I ultimately got the BBQ bacon burger. I didn't expect to be wowed by the food, (as we're paying for the ambiance), so we stuck to the basics and ordered Caribbean coconut fried shrimp and fish tacos. Although they had a "Taste the Tropics" menu featuring "Aloha" salmon & shrimp, and even a poke bowl, I'm definitely not trusting their version to be up to my standards. We were celebrating our anniversary so my wife wanted to try rain forest Cafe. There is honestly nothing I can say good about the experience that ruin our anniversary night. The entire place is a tourist trap. It's incredibly dated decor and sad animatronics are so outdated. The waitress could barely speak English. She took our order by pointing at pictures. We ordered sad smoothies that came with a lighted glasses that you keep that ended being plastic junk. After 30 minutes our entree arrives...and I ask where the appetizers were...they showed up 2 minutes later. I asked why they came after the entree and she shrugged. So we had food stacked all over the table...entrees getting cold...good thing the cheese curds and the mozzarella flatbread we decent because the entrees were basically horrible. My wife ordered the shrimp 3 ways...all the shrimp we cooked some place beyond overcooked into golf ball consistency. The side dish was the absolute worst version a rice dish ever.. it was supposed to be some version of rice and red beans...well it was as sweet as rice pudding with kidney beans running thru it...your brain say no way in hell! My entree was Coconut crusted flounder and shrimp..guess what? The shrimp was just as over cooked and the flounder had zero flavor...could have been Coconut covered paper towel...which would have potential to actually be better if there was seasoning. I stated my displeasure to the waitress several times about everything all to a blank stare. Even ky 11 year old soon said the place was ridiculous...his mushy fries and he said stupid animal sounds. Overall I wish I could forget this experience ever happened and picked any of the other fine galveston places to eat. Certainly would have cost less than $150. read more

Such a fun environment! My 18 month old loved it. Unfortunately, service was very slow from the start. We had a reservation and waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated. I would expect that to be fairly standard here, and our server said it was no problem, but our food came out about 20 minutes after our son's food. I'm not sure if the server waited to put the adult order in and accidentally pocketed it for a bit? It didn't seem like it sat in the window for longer than a few minutes, because it was reasonably warm. It continued to be pretty slow from there. No apology for the food taking so long, the server just kept walking by and saying "sorry, give me a couple of minutes and I'll be there". We made sure we had our card ready when she dropped the check or it would have been another 10-15 minutes getting out of there. Food was good! My husband had the jerk chicken and shrimp pasta. I had some sort of caribbean steak, but it was on their speciality menu so I can't look up the name and do not remember it :( Leo had a chicken quesadilla, and he has never met a chicken quesadilla he doesn't like. I made a reservation here for 6:30pm as my son and I were staying a day in Galveston prior to leaving for a cruise. I learned of the cafe through IG and looked so cool - I gotta admit I was sorta nervous as the reviews aren't too great but we had a fantastic experience! It was also only a 20 min walk from our airbnb and I needed exercise. We were seated promptly at our time, the tables are spacious/roomy and our waiter Tony was THE best - gave a lot of history and suggestions for the area. The decor is really cool and detailed - we walked around to see it all. They have an artist to draw your photo, a shop and so much extra - we did dinner and the ride (they say it's the only rainforest cafe with a ride). I had the local Galveston wheat beer (forget the name - similar to blue moon yummy) and coconut shrimp (delicious - ask for the jalapeño sauce for the rice helps add flavor). My son had a chicken sandwich and fries (I forget name of sandwich but he loved it). There was no wait on a Saturday for our party of 4 even though most tables were filled. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant has its charm, with the sounds of a jungle and various animal figurines. I enjoyed the fun thunderstorm imitation! I ordered fish tacos, my husband got the primal steak. I thought the fish tacos tasted good, I like the sauce and the seasoning on the fish. There was definitely a lot more cole slaw than fish in the taco. The portion was quite large, I was full after eating just 2 tacos. I tried a couple pieces of steak - it was delicious! Very tender and well seasoned. Came here the other day, and let me just say that the service wasn't good at all. We waited for 10 minutes after being seated until a server came over to take our drink order. We then waited another 10 minutes to get our drinks, we then ordered our appetizer which took 15-20 minutes to get to us. At this point we decided just to get the appetizer and not a mean because the wait was taking so long, which then took another 10-20 minutes to ask for a check and wait for our card to come back. As for the food, we got the spinach and artichoke dip. We waited 15-20 minutes for it. When our server came around to give it to us, he said that there was a backup in the kitchen so that's why it took so long. The spinach and artichoke dip looked like it was under a heat lamp for a while. It tasted good which I'm fine with, but don't lie about the kitchen being backed up. As for ambience, it's that same nostalgic rainforest cafe feel. When the big "storm" came the lights dimmed and the same lighting was there, but the sound wasn't as loud as before. Food was okay, ordered the fish tacos, fish was hot, had good flavor, was served on a corn tortilla (was cold) and had a slaw lettuce mixed with a jalapeno sauce...was good not too spicy. Served with Jasmine rice and black beans...both were pretty salty but served hot. Meal seemed somewhat disconjointed. Cheese pizza just didn't look cooked all the way through...served with just a few fries tasted warmed up. I just feel for the prices, and with the fun interactive ambiance the customers Rainforest attracts not to mention the kids...can we do better with a pretty basic kids meal? The wait was long, 30 mins, but we walked through the gift shop and the time flew by. I ordered the blackened fish tacos - they were well worth the money! Each taco had its own little filet. The ambiance though, is of course what you go to Rainforest Cafe for. There were lightning storms, moving animals in the ceiling and on the walls, and several fish tanks. This used to be one of our favorite places in Galveston, and I want to love it! Unfortunately, there are too many problems for me to leave it a favorable review. The service is fine. The atmosphere is what this chain is known for- the animatronic animals, the storms, etc. All of this is still happening. My issue is the food. The food has gotten so expensive that it's simply not feasible, and the food was never very good. Now they have tried to elevate the menu, so there are no simple options for someone seeking to just enjoy a nice meal in the atmosphere. When we visited the rainforest cafe around 4 pm on a Saturday, the wait was 40 minutes for a table for two! Thankfully, there was open seating at the bar (we were starving). The service was quick -- we were served our drinks and food quickly -- but I did feel the ambiance was a bit off for the high prices we paid (80ish dollars altogether). I kept catching whiffs of chlorine from the drip waterfall decor they had. The food was great-- we had cheese curds that were very tasty and I got a pastalaya, which is basically jambalaya but on linguine. Tasted pretty similar to a typical jambalaya and it was interesting for sure. My partners burger looked a bit sad for 22 dollars, the bun looked a bit soggy and crumpled. Overall nice pit stop but a bit pricey for the food. The environment was cool though and I could see it being a hit with young kids! read more

Extremely busy place since it's the only Rainforest Cafe in Houston now and it is the only one with a "water" ride. They don't take cash in the gift shop to pay for the ride or any souvenirs but they take cash inside the restaurant. Hmm.. ok. We went to the host stand to get our table and she told me it was going to be a 45 min to an hour wait. Ok. Then I showed her my Landry's member card & she sarcastically told me "that's going to earn you 20 minutes off your wait time" and I was like okay thanks hun. She was not a very inviting host. On to the food/waiter/restaurant... it was mid. They have people coming around bothering you with a picture (extra charge) and then a balloon guy (optional tip) and then a face painter (another extra charge/extra tip). Like come on, this is too overwhelming. We're trying to eat and enjoy the ambiance of this rainforest cafe and you have so many people walking around trying to get more business. Our first server took our drinks and was a rude. She definitely did not want to be there. Our second server was pleasant and he continued to be our server for the rest of the experience. Thank goodness. Drinks were super sweet. The coconut shrimp had too much coconut and my steak was not medium-medium rare. We paid $45 for this ride for 4 people and they don't even check the tickets.
