I may be a townie, but I know my meat. Been shopping here since the early 90's, it's my meat headquarters. The grapes are good too.

The selection is impressive and the folks working here are super friendly and accommodating, if they don't have something they will find a farm nearby that has it and make arrangements to get it for you. The nice lady working here gave me the full story on where their meat comes from, what they normally have available and what can be ordered special with a few days notice. Overall super happy to have discovered this gem in the little town of Wellston Ohio, the service is top notch and the prices are fair. Pro-Tip: When you visit, pick up a package of the homemade beef sticks, they are like gourmet slim jims.

We particularly go to Dave's to get a good steak and favor ribeye. The consistency isn't 100% but close. Most we've purchased are excellent. A few are a bit short of that mark. My (ex-meat cutter) husband tells me that it's all about the marbling in a steak. Since he's the one at the point of purchase, if his choices are not A+, he could have walked away. Still, that said, we've found Dave's to provide the best in steaks in the Jackson / Wellston area. The ground beef is also top-notch. So, if you're frustrated by the lack of quality in beef you'll find at Kroger, you should give Dave's a try.

They only open on wednesday ( less stands) & saturday (more stands, vegetables, meat, bakery) 9am - 1 pm. They have a lots of stand that sells fruits, vegetables, meats, bakeries also wine testing (only on saturday). All the stuff there are fresh & organic also local, that is why I like it there but I was dissapointed on their sweet corns & cantalopes. My favorite are: * bread stands : herb & cheese bread $5 (if you can not find this stands in the market, you can go to Avalance pizza to get it) * Kettle corn : they have 2 flavor; caramel (small $5, large $9) & regular (small $4 , large $7) but actually their regular is mix with a little bit caramel popcorn so you get sweet & salty flavor. * Bone in pork chop ($5/ pack = 2 pork chop) : I forgot their store name (located a cross from kettle corn) (if you use food stamps & you spent more than $10, he will give you $10 tokens that you can spend on fruits & vegetables at any stands) * jackie O's : molasses cookie

In a very random parking lot, with all the scenic areas in Athens I was quite surprised by it's location. It's located inside and outside The Market on State Mall so the positive part of the location is that they can move indoors when the weather turns yucky. The Athens Farmers market is year-round that runs Saturdays 9a-12p and Wednesday's (April through December) 9a-1p. With over 50 vendors, there is literally something for everyone. Some notable highlights: gorgeous state jewelry by Amanda Buchanan. I started holiday shopping early and snagged a few as stocking stuffers. I was blown away by some gorgeous pottery by Sledding Hill. Loved some tshirts and the concept behind It's Still Today. Tasted an abundance of salsa from Southwestern Style Salsa, they literally don't limit you or make you feel bad at all (which is great cause we ended up grabbing a few jars). Grabbed some jam from Fisher Farms and chips from Shagbark. I got the chance to meet the sweet daughters of Sarah's Sweets. Truly delightful girls who are so proud of their mom. You guys already know how much I love my sweets but what you might not know is that my favorite candy is fudge. I LOVE fudge so much and Sarah has a huge selection to choose from (more than 20) and it was SO YUMMY! And the flowers, swoon, the flowers at this market were just beautiful. I came home with two stunning bouquets.

Cold cases with Der Dutchman pies, packaged meats, snacks, etc. Amish jams and jellies and pastries. One stop shopping for some people, like me. I got a bulk pack of brats, some big premade burgers, and scrapple! Haven't seen that for years. If it's not raining this weekend, I will be grilling. And I will be having scrapple for breakfast at some point. Service was super friendly and fast. The wait was short, midday and midweek. Prices are very reasonable. Pretty easy access, although both the street and the lot can get busy. Mosley's left, Thurn's left, so this is one of the few remaining real butchers in the area.

When you arrive at Schuman's and enter through the front door, you'll notice a red number dispenser to your right. Take a number to determine your place in line. Once your number is called, you'll be quickly helped. This system ensures a fair and efficient service for all customers. At Schuman's, you can be sure that your meat and side needs for any meal, big or small, will be met. The butchers are not just knowledgeable, they are also incredibly customer-centered. We bought pork chops and were asked if the thickness was to our liking; if not, they were willing to cut what we wanted. Their helpfulness and support make me feel appreciated and confident in my choices. Schumans has an extensive selection of beef and pork products, and a delightful delicatessen with a variety of cold cuts and cheeses. While Schumuns does not make its own sausage like Thurns, it does carry a wide selection of Falter's products and Tony Packo's. At Schumun's, you can find more than just meat and deli products. They also stock staples like milk, bread, eggs, a wide variety of condiments, rubs, Tony Packo's pickles, and local butter by the log. This convenience adds to the overall satisfaction of shopping at Schumun's. We miss Thurns but are thrilled with Schumun's Meat. Give them a try.
