Shepards Pie - definitely add the cheese

We have never had to wait for a table at Sean O'callaghans, even on busy friday and Saturday nights. Great selection of classic Irish foods and great casual spot to hang out. Nachos appetizers is ENORMOUS - a staple when we are hungry.

    Irish stew with lamb shank

Is like to give this a 3.5 star rating, so I went with 3 instead of 4 stars. The place is cute, reminiscent of pubs in Ireland. First time here, I was hoping for some Irish music, but there wasn't. I went with one of their traditional Irish dishes, Irish Stew with lamb shank over mashed potatoes. The sauce looked demi-glace, sort of transparent, not opaque like you would expect. I wouldn't call it stew, save for potatoes and carrots that are typically in stew. It tasted ok, for $30, I expected more. We shared the spinach artichoke dip and that was good. My boyfriend ordered a burger, and it was nothing special. Our server was good, she kept checking on us to get more drinks and clear plates. The Jameson and ginger and Guinness were good. I'm not sure I'd come back to eat, but to drink, I would.

Cabbage core and inedible leaves that aren't even part of the head.

We ordered the corned beef and cabbage. The good: corned beef was delicious, bartender was really great. The bad: the carrots, potatoes, and cabbage were not cooked, hard as a rock. They brought us more veg that was almost cooked, and no cabbage. We asked again for cabbage and they gave us a core and the outside leaves, not the actual cabbage, and everything was a salt bomb. It took 20 minutes to get the carrots and potatoes and another 20 mns to get the cabbage. Edit: we got our bill and they took the meal off without us asking. I appreciate that. Will be back.

The server and hostess were very pleasant. The place is bigger than it looks and has different seating areas. I had the whitefish it was cooked very well the lemon caper butter was tasted good but it started to solidify by the time I got my plate. The fish had a crispy coating which was good. The potatoes and green beans were tasty. The other plates we had were the Reuben sandwich which looked really good but they didn't have horseradish but had this mustard with horseradish instead which was amazing. The hamburger was good. The whitefish sandwich was amazing. I loved the Scottish Egg with the dill sauce. I would get that again and again. The bread pudding was amazing!

Yummy fish and chips. They even give you some malt vinegar!

This place is cute and comfortable. We had a party of 7 and sat at a high top table. Service was excellent. Started with a blue moon on tap. I ordered the fish and chips. Absolutely delicious. My son said the corned beef melt was the best he has had. He also enjoyed the Mac and cheese. Definitely recommend!

Great experience the food was great I had the Cuban sandwich and it was great. The service was normal for a pub. The lightning was great and the seating was great.

Great place. Trifecta of good food, spirits and ambiance. Today was salads for us, customized by us. Loved it. Potato Leek soup tasted freshly made. Good Irish beer and ciders on tap. Full bar. Recommend sitting in the bar area and not the room off to the side. Other items we like are chips and curry, braised short rib and fish and chips. I cannot recommend the shepherds pie. It was my fave but they changed it. The last three times it had a serious amount of fat on top. The last time I sent it back.

Decided to stop in here after searching for an Irish pub in the area. Being from out of town, we totally loved the location of this place. Right in downtown Plymouth, it is surrounded by cute shops and restaurants and has a friendly and authentic feel. On a warmer day, we would have chosen to sit outside and enjoy their patio while taking in the local traffic and sights. We were seated quickly on arrival at a high top (our choice), and our waitress was very attentive and fast. Our O'Callaghan's Burger was hot, juicy, perfectly medium-rare, and delicious. The Arugula and truffle-roasted garlic aioli elevated this burger, giving it an amazingly rich taste that kept us full for the rest of the day! There are a lot of great places up and down this street, and if you have the time, I'd recommend an after meal walk and checking them out. Especially after a big, Irish meal!

    Shepherd's Pie
    Shenelle A.

This place is more of a restaurant than thought, I thought it was just a stereotypical bar. I got the Shepards Pie because I heard many people rave about it, but it didn't live up to my expectations. The flavor was good but the ratio of mash to the rest was uneven and I thought it was too soupy. We also had the pretzels and they were solid with a great honey mustard dipping sauce to pair. Service was nice and the inside is what I imagine a pub to be like.

    On tap!

So this is based on lunch. We stopped in and set up at the bar, we were greeted by a very energetic and very nice bartender. She was very helpful on our picks. She suggested the most popular from her customers she said she didn't want to influence on her personal taste, which I appreciate it. However, I can't say much for the taste of their customers. We ordered the shepherd's pie which was more like hamburger gravy with mashed potatoes, and I ordered the fish dinner which came with a single piece of fish that was not sturdy enough to hold up to a fork. The taste was in bed however it was very hard to eat because it was falling all over my plate. My friend that had the shepherd's pie said the flavor was good unfortunately the presentation and what it was supposed to be was not up to par at all. For being a "Irish pub", I would have expected better.

Their food is very tasty, including the queso dip and whatever seasoning they used on their burgers. Our server Layla was very prompt, helpful and had great suggestions! The ambiance of this place is like a fun Irish drinking pub, it's not intimate, but it's not a giant lallapalooza either. The noise level is average and everyone was enjoying their time. This is a great place for good food and a fun time. They had some shot specials due to St Patrick's day coming, so we tried the "Shamrock shakes" which were very good! I completely appreciate that things get screwed up in the kitchen or service can be slow- it's how the restaurant responds that matters most to me. My dad, husband, brother in law, and sister all got burgers that were rare or medium rare. My dads and brother in laws were well done. My brother in laws literally was black. My husbands and sisters were overcooked but tolerable. My dad and brother in law sent theirs back to get them rare and it took over 25 minutes before mu dad just said he wanted his order cancelled. My dad was told that they were busy and that's why his burger took so long to get recooked- but the restaurant was half full. When one of the servers heard that my dad didn't want the burger anymore he told him "that's fine, I'll eat it." My brother in law got his to go and it was still burnt. They also told him that they wouldn't give him fries with his to go order because he already ate his fries. Not a big deal, but at this point why be a jerk and point it out? I had to ask our waiter for ranch 3 times before I finally asked another person for some. My son's pizza was also burnt. Super super disappointing.

I added a salmon fillet. It was so fresh and delicious - and VERY filling! I also ordered the calamari for an appetizer and that was pretty tasty as well. I never expect stellar service when you have a big party. The issue I had was the food. It was mid at best. First it came out at all different times which I think is not ideal. I ordered the chicken Caesar wrap and it said it was grilled chicken.... There is absolutely NO way this was grilled chicken, it was canned chicken shredded to the max. That was disappointing because I was thinking it was grilled chicken cut into strips or chunks and then put in the wrap. I assumed incorrectly. For me it was very sub par, for the money I would rather go elsewhere. If you're going just for drinks, then maybe it's a decent spot. I had wine so nothing too adventurous.

The meal came with 2 pieces, fries and slaw. Overall good meal, although the slaw wasn't anything special. I really enjoyed the flavor and texture of the batter, but the fish itself was a bit lacking. Fries were the best thing on the plate, which should never be the case with this kind of dish. Usually, French dip sandwiches are huge, but this one was served on a hot dog bun, so not overly big. It was served with a healthy dose of horseradish cream sauce and was pretty tasty.
