The female dorm of 10 people has more like a capsule hotel feel and comfy beds. However there are only two toilets. Staff is friendly. Last check in time is at 8 pm. There's free coffee, tea and snacks. Also there's a free food section of the fridge. Parking lot can be full during the summers. This hostel also overlooks the water. read more

My mom and I had the most lovely time today renting river kayaks from this hostel--great vibes all around. Our greeting at the front desk was very friendly, and from what we saw the shared spaces of the hostel were very inviting to overnight guests. This establishment certainly came off as well connected with all the guide books, books, and brochures/maps near the entryway. I could imagine for overnights this place would work great as an affordable place to crash while exploring the Oregon Coast on 101. The kayaks were such a treat-- it wasn't a problem at all to carry them over from the yard to the launch chute (!) and get on the river and out for a couple hours of good fun. River wasn't busy on this end of town, so it was just us and the birds as we paddled north. We got a great deal on the rental and so it really felt like a magical couple of hours of good clean fun! The historical museum across the way from this place is also worth checking out for some local knowledge of how Seaside came about. Highly recommend this business for kayak rentals in town--good deal, good vibes, good launch spot on the river. read more

After staying previously, I thought to give it a go again. A week before my stay (on a weekend where everything was booked), I get a call they had overbooked and would put me on the dorm with a shared bathroom instead of the private room and bathroom I paid for. But they would give me a discounted night. I agreed. We would adjust the payment at checkout. No one was there when I checked out. Called number. Left message. Next day, nothing. Called left message, sent message online. 3 days later, got a call they had been very busy but owner would call me. Well this has been the story for 2 weeks now. Have stayed here many times, on trips up and down the coast. This is an older motel converted into a hostel, good idea. I've stayed in the bunk rooms and private rooms, all rooms were decent, clean, though somewhat spartan. Hey, its a hostel. Great staff, safe and friendly hostel. I've got some good memories of this place. This was just ok. The rooms are very basic. Don't plan on anything in the room but a bed, hand soap, and a bathroom. The room always felt damp and so did the sheets? It was weird, but we just needed a place to lay our heads. It was nice to always have a parking spot and just walk to the beach, which wasn't far. Seaside was the best town we visited on the coast so we were glad we chose to stay here. If we were to do it again, I would spend more money for somewhere else, the hostel style was just not necessary for us. Friendly staff though! read more

Came here to stay the night was offered by the host dinner and helpful information. They had a fridge to put out food, nice lounge area and a garden that they gave us permission to eat anything we picked. With a nice back yard over seeing the river with a fire pit. Pancakes are also served for breakfast. Overall great stay and outstanding customer service. read more

I'm staying here as I write this review. The private room reminds me of a Motel 6 with less amenities which isn't a bad thing. The wifi is spotty but they do have it. Big commercial fridge in the kitchen, a large living room with couches, and a dining room make up the common area which is available 24 hours. A little less expensive than a basic motel room (came to $53 w/ taxes for a private room) but for that price you'd only find a sleezy motel along the coast or a Motel 6 more inland. read more

Hosteling isnt for everyone. To stay in a hoste means you are trading some of your traveler anonimity for a cheaper rate and actual interaction with fellow travelers. It means sitting in the lounge playing scrabble with other guests. It means a late night invitation to a bonfire, it means a shared pot of coffee. I've stayed at the Seaside International hostel twice. Once in a private and bunk room, the second time only in a private room. I've cooked in the kitchen (great kitchen gear available), I've used the wifi (spotty) and used the computer (convienent) . During the summer I found my fellow guests to be young folks traveling, during the winter, they appeared to be mainly folks looking for short term housing. It wasnt a bad thing, it was just a different dynamic. All in all I liked it and will stay there again. read more

Having traveled the entire way around the globe, Seaside International tops the best hostels in the world. Homey, but spacious; cleanly, but low-key...this hostel has everything that a foreign or local traveler will need to feel at ease. Trung the owner offers linens and comfortable quarters, breakfast included with stay, and has all the information about what to see and do in the area surrounding world-famous Haystack Rock. There's a living room that looks out onto the river filled with games, a piano and other musical instruments, and a small library of books. An enormous water-front garden boasts three separate patios, a grill and a fire pit, and an array of canoes and kayaks available for rent. A fully-stocked kitchen has ample room to store your groceries and cook a meal. And if you manage to catch any oysters on the ocean that's just a few blocks away, the friendly and helpful staff will even show you how to clean them! A skeptic for how highly recommended to me this hostel had been, I can now say I wasn't a bit disappointed. Instead, I actually extended my stay! As a European-American I have stayed in hostels in nearly every country of Europe. I've lived in NYC, LA, Seattle, and many other places in the U.S. But next time I'm in Europe and meet travelers interested in visiting the U.S., it is Seaside International Hostel that I will be recommending they visit. read more

The reason I most like this hostel is that it is easy to get to from Portland (1.5 hours, you can take the Amtrak bus for $17), and it is generally quiet and have relatively few people staying at it (I have stayed here five times in the past three years) The bathrooms and showers have always been clean, they offer a complimentary breakfast of eggs and pancakes, the staff is friendly, and best of all it is about a ten minutes to walk to the ocean! The owner gives you a code so that if you stay out late you can come in through the kitchen. The women's bunk room, where I have always stayed, has generally had only 1-4 other women staying in it (except for once when I stayed over the 4th of July when it was totally full). So for $28, a night I've received a calm, peaceful getaway to the ocean! read more

I'll base my ratings on hostels, not hotels. Everything worked, the room was warm, it was quiet and serene, and the staff was friendly. It was a perfect place to unplug and get away from the heyday of everyday busyness. I especially enjoyed the bench by facing the river where i spent a good portion of my weekend. Loved our stay here! Wishing it had been longer than one night. Ed was a fantastic host. As soon as we arrived he showed us around and marked on a map where the promenade and shopping areas were located. He welcomed us to enjoy the garden out back. It had radishes, kale and onions (among other plants ) that we enjoyed. And a fire pit (there are sticks and marshmallows in the kitchen!) The room nice and inexpensive. You must understand this is not the Shilo or Holiday inn. This is a Hostel that offers dorms and private rooms. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The Seaside Lodge and Hostel offers a very nice hostel environment with additional amities. There is a chill room/music room where you can play a piano, guitar, bongos or an organ. There is a communal kitchen where you can cook your own food. They do offer FREE BREAKFAST of pancakes and eggs. You will need to make them yourself and clean up after yourself as well. They have a coffee bar, however I did not order anything. They have canoes and kayaks available as well as a great outdoor space with a very nice view. The location is still very nice. You are within walking distance to the beach and the great Seaside shops. My daughter and I stayed in a small private room and was pleased with our experience. We did come prepared with extra towels, blankets and toiletries. There is no AC in the rooms, but being on the coast, there really wasn't much need. Just had our window open for a few and we cooled off just fine. My recommendations is bring your own pillow, as the ones provided to us were a pretty flat as well as towels, toiletries and additional blankets if you like having more than just one. Overall a very good experience. I will most likely stay there again. We stayed Aug 24th 2013 during Hood to Coast! read more

Great location - within a 10-minute walk of both the Seaside downtown and the Prom. In general, my private room had the shabby chic you would expect in a hostel, but was freshly painted and had a spotless bathroom. The staff seemed a lovable bunch of eccentrics and were extremely friendly and helpful. The walls are thin but I must've gotten lucky with the neighbors because there was no noise after 10pm over the two nights I was there. The staff warned me wifi might be spotty in my room as it was far from the router but actually had a pretty fast connection. read more

We didn't stay here, but we rented kayaks for a couple of hours--- yes, they do that. The service is friendly, the location on the river is ideal, and the prices can't be beat. (Wheel Fun rentals is just up river, and by comparison, is almost twice the price.) The property is small, but looks nice, and as mentioned, the location is close to town. read more

Waffles/pancakes in the am- charge for coffee like other Oregon hostels (only state that charges for coffee???-sad). Do have a coffee maker you can use if buy your own. Stayed in February and found the hostel warm and welcoming. Staff stayed past their shift on our arrival to show us around and make sure we were settled after a late night drive from Portland. There were pancakes for us in the morning (I think this is usual thing) and some incredible homemade cheesecake the next day (I think this is a special treat staff bake up from time to time). We stayed in the dorm - beds and bathroom were clean. The location itself is really nice - right on the water (an inlet) and a few minutes walk to the beach or shops. My son, Nick, was a guest at the hostel during the 10 weeks he attended the local VOLTA electrical lineman school. It was off-season for the hostel and the management was great in offering a reasonable rate for his extended stay. Ed, the manager, is wonderful! He was very helpful in his suggestions and recommendations during Nick's stay and the hostel provided everything that was needed i.e. clean and affordable housing, kitchen space, common room, and a great back yard! It's easy to find the place and within walking distance to downtown. I visited twice and was impressed with the facility and staff each time. We plan on staying here again when we travel to Seaside. Highly recommend this location to any VOLTA school attendee! read more

We loved this place! Very welcoming staff that were very helpful in pointing us towards things to do in town. Cute little living room with games and musical instruments. Our room was comfortable and there was ample hot water for showers. The price is right and made our stay here very affordable. It helps to know what to expect when staying at a hostel and this was a great little find. Walking distance from the beach, the promenade, "End of the World" estuary and lots of great restaurants. It's right on the river and canoes and kayaks are available for rent via the hostel. Carolyn and Robert (employees during our stay) were very sweet and helpful making us feel at home. read more

Haaa haaaaa this place is falling apart and the owner is totally burnt out. She doesn't give a rats ass about this hostel. The owner is using work exchange people to do work for free that should be done by certified electrician/plumbers and contractors. The place is falling apart and has issues. If you stay there it will be fine. If you work there, not so Devine. The community is cool and the beaches are fantastic. Seaside, your awesome! Hostel there not so great. This outfit has swindled my friend and I. We went to air B&B to book this room and it NEVER said it was a hostel. We didn't learn that until we showed up. Air B&B has higher prices and standards. We were charged prices for a nice place, but what we got was a gross and stinky place with empty promises. I have a dog and was forced to pay and extra $20 for him to stay in the car!!! My dog is accustomed to sleeping in the car as he needs to do this often as I have relatives and friends who don't want pets in their homes. The owner said that dogs were NOT ALLOWED to stay in cars. Since when does he make state law. He had my friends credit card information and charged her $20, for my dog to never enter the room! The room smelled like smoke no hot water from the bathroom faucet There was no wifi in the room as promised in the advertisement There was a huge drop-off from parking lot to the road that completely scraped the underside of my car and unlatched the front end undercarriage (no warning was mentioned of this problem) When asked about it, he said "that room just cant get signal", when earlier he said that we were given the best room! There goes the plans we had to work on something on the internet together. Do not go here unless desperate for a bed because that is all they can provide. OVERPRICED! read more

A cute hostel with personality. Hot shower, community space, kitchen with gas stove and cast iron pans, free make-your-own pancake and eggs breakfast. The best part is the outdoor patio and backyard on the river! Stellar location. There seemed to be a few longer-term residents, which I think adds it's own character. The dorm room I stayed in had 6 beds (3 bunks) and not much space for anything other than sleeping/laying in bed. I had it to myself in October, and was sick in bed all day anyway, so it was great! With six people and their Things, it might feel a little tight. I'm a female traveling alone and I never felt unsafe. I'd definitely stay again if I were back in the area. read more

This was my first hostel experience. My friends and I needed somewhere to stay during our road trip and this was my last resort. We ended up arriving very late to the shared bunk bed room but were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves. I didn't get to stay very long but was able to get some much needed laundry done in the morning (at a very reasonable fee) while my traveling companions sampled the cappuccino and played on the communal piano. Definitely would have loved to have surveyed the area and town. There's a river running along the back with boat rentals and all the shared, communal rooms were very homey and welcoming. read more

This place is legit. We stayed in the bunk house which was a bit tight with 6 people to one bathroom and shower. Not to worry though, there are numerous bathrooms around the hostel. The washing machine is top of the line, the dryer is good too. There is a full kitchen with two stove/oven combos and a giant fridge with space for groceries. The little Asian lady who owns the place is awesome and very accommodating. The guys who work there come and go but are very friendly as well. Rent a bike and head down to the main streets after cooking dinner or just eat at the numerous restaurants. The beach is maybe a mile walk but if you want some action you have to go about two miles south. Check out the seaside hostel, you won't be disappointed as long as you're not obnoxiously high maintenance. Take it easy read more

Dorm room clean, warm and comfortable, Super friendly and knowledgable staff, gave me tips on places to eat, great viewpoints for photos, and places to hike.
