Seaside Hostel - right on the river, 5 mins from the beach
    Tristan A.

Have stayed here many times, on trips up and down the coast. This is an older motel converted into a hostel, good idea. I've stayed in the bunk rooms and private rooms, all rooms were decent, clean, though somewhat spartan. Hey, its a hostel. Great staff, safe and friendly hostel. I've got some good memories of this place. Pros: Location - right on the river, use the boats Near the ocean Nice nice staff Movies at night Clean and cozy common room Stories were told and soft music was heard at night Snag a bed by the window, hear the ocean Nice deck and grassy back yard area Easy parking Cons: Seaside is poss my least favorite beach town in Oregon Avoid Seaside during Spring Break Tip: Travel up or down coast for a nice beach without skee ball

A car that looked like someone had been living out of it

Place was not well kept at all whatsoever and there were a group of homeless people loitering there when we arrived. Not a great start to the trip but we were lucky enough to get the last room at best western which ended up being the same price!

Came here to stay the night was offered by the host dinner and helpful information. They had a fridge to put out food, nice lounge area and a garden that they gave us permission to eat anything we picked. With a nice back yard over seeing the river with a fire pit. Pancakes are also served for breakfast. Overall great stay and outstanding customer service.

A view from the back, with rhubarb in full-bloom.

Having traveled the entire way around the globe, Seaside International tops the best hostels in the world. Homey, but spacious; cleanly, but low-key...this hostel has everything that a foreign or local traveler will need to feel at ease. Trung the owner offers linens and comfortable quarters, breakfast included with stay, and has all the information about what to see and do in the area surrounding world-famous Haystack Rock. There's a living room that looks out onto the river filled with games, a piano and other musical instruments, and a small library of books. An enormous water-front garden boasts three separate patios, a grill and a fire pit, and an array of canoes and kayaks available for rent. A fully-stocked kitchen has ample room to store your groceries and cook a meal. And if you manage to catch any oysters on the ocean that's just a few blocks away, the friendly and helpful staff will even show you how to clean them! A skeptic for how highly recommended to me this hostel had been, I can now say I wasn't a bit disappointed. Instead, I actually extended my stay! As a European-American I have stayed in hostels in nearly every country of Europe. I've lived in NYC, LA, Seattle, and many other places in the U.S. But next time I'm in Europe and meet travelers interested in visiting the U.S., it is Seaside International Hostel that I will be recommending they visit.

The setting has a classic feel, with antique details like the steel radiator and retro windows. The room is small but clean and full of character. At $350 for two nights, it feels a bit expensive, but it offers a unique experience. There is a shared men's and women's bathroom on each floor, along with two showers. There is no A/C--just a fan in the room. We also noticed a fairly strong dog smell inside the elevator and in the bedroom, even though we like dogs. I was initially worried about noise from upstairs with a family of four (including two kids), but that hasn't been an issue. Most of the noise came from the bar across the street, where groups were loud late into the night. I used the complimentary earplugs for the first time in years of staying at hotels, and they were helpful. I could still hear the noise, and it continued until after 3:10 a.m., when the conversations outside the bar finally died down. On the bright side, the manager and staff are friendly and professional. If you're looking for a historic, classic stay, this is a distinctive option--just be aware of the shared facilities, the pet odor, and the potential for street noise.

I have found a review mentioning the problem that is a year old, so this situation has to be known to the owners. Maybe the noise does not reach all the rooms, but I wouldn't gamble on it if I were you because it will be too late for a refund. Guests at a hotel have a reasonable expectation of a quiet room, so this seems to be a very dishonest business practice.

The hotel staff greeted us with a welcome package for our dog, which she was completely obsessed with. Branded tennis ball and everything. The owner and staff gave us great, specific recommendations for places to see during our trip, including fantastic hiking and biking locations. The food at the hotel restaurant was DELICIOUS. The beach, which is right next to the hotel, was wonderfully open, with none of the intensity of Canon Beach (which I also love, but for very different reasons). The pool and saunas were lovely and clean. And we had to go home with multiple bottles from Adrift Distillery. If you're looking for a truly relaxing, fun, romantic getaway, this is it. And if you need a place that's dog-friendly, this one really is.

There's definitely a cool, curated vibe, and the coffee/tea setup in the lobby is a nice touch. I also appreciated the complimentary bikes and the ease of using them. That said, the rooms didn't quite live up to the price point (around $400+ for two weekend nights). The building itself feels older and a bit worn beneath the cosmetic updates. Our room, in particular, showed signs of heavy use -- the bed was noticeably worn and dipped in the middle, and some of the finishes felt a bit cheap or improvised. Noise was also an issue. Despite requesting a top-floor room, we were placed directly under the restaurant, and we could hear footsteps, banging, and general activity until about midnight each night. Soundproofing overall seemed pretty minimal, which made it hard to fully relax. There were also a few small inconveniences -- no hotel phone, no central air, limited trash space, and some quirky (but not very functional) design choices like exposed cable management. The spa had potential but fell short during our visit. One sauna door didn't close properly, another wasn't working at all, and the overall experience felt underwhelming given the atmosphere they're going for. I can see the appeal of this place -- especially for families or those drawn to its aesthetic -- but for the price and volume of guests they accommodate, I expected a bit more attention to detail and upkeep. With some improvements, it could really shine.

The only downside, and honestly the most important one, was the cleanliness. It didn't feel properly cleaned. For example, I found hair in the bathroom, even men's hair, which made me uncomfortable and a bit doubtful about how well everything else was cleaned. It's a shame because everything else was good the location, the view, and even the breakfast (which was included and decent). But cleanliness is really important, and that part definitely needs improvement.

Me and my girl check in and spent a total of 4 minutes in our room. It looked NOTHING like the pictures being advertised. Everything looked 40 years old, nothing like the photos online when I booked. The room was dirty as well. Bed was sunken in completely. On top of that, it smelled like DEAD FISH inside and outside of the room. Unbearable. What they don't tell you is the property is adjacent to a fish factory. THE ICING ON THE CAKE: walked to look out at the marina view and there was a couple next door SMOKING CRACK ON THE PATIO!! We went back to the lobby to check out and it was PACKED. Didn't wanna make a scene, didn't want to alarm other guest out of respect. We could've easily made a scene, but we felt like our concerns we valid and we'd be treated with the same courtesy. Of course, we were prompted to connect with Expedia to start the process which their response was, "if the property waives the no cancelation policy, we'll gladly refund the money." Expedia e mailed the property and received no response. 3 days later we called back Expedia who in turn contacted the property. They said the GM would reach us directly in a few days. Few days came and went, but no call. Followed up and finally got connected with the person on duty that day, not the GM. Their response, "well since we didn't sell that room that nite we don't wanna be out that money." I explained again how Expedia is willing to eat the cost which the person stated they STILL won't waive the policy bc it's the GM decision. When I asked to speak to the GM, they said,"she's busy but I'll have her call you in a couple days..." out check in date was 7/17. Today is 7/28 with no response.
