The best tri tip on the west coast. It's sooo good. This market is a delight for the eyes and the tummy. The food is so good. From fantastic desserts by the slice to tri tip sandwiches served hot from 11am to 7pm you can't go wrong. While the produce is top notch this market has a very significant specialty in serving the best meats we have ever tasted. The Meyer lemon kabobs are so delicious!!! But the tri tip is king here. What do 3 gals do on a beautiful Saturday afternoon? Go for a ride up the coast and stop at Seaside Market in Cardiff for lunch -- that's what! First we stopped at a small outdoor market in Del Mar, then went to another in Solano Beach. We stopped in a bunch of cute towns on our way. I love Seaside market! SO much that you prob can't find many places. They actually have really good salads and i saw they had fries cooked in beef fallow but didn't have those. We had a lovely lunch outside across from the beach -- and watched the sunset from several different beaches driving up the coast back to La Jolla. Such a fun day and a really beautiful drive back home. read more

Delicious Fresh house made ceviche and guacamole. I came at happy hour and the ceviche was eight dollars. I got octopus and white fish very generous on the fish. Regular $13. BUYER BEWARE! SMELL THAT MEAT OR FISH BEFORE YOU BUY IT I used to love this place WAY BACK in the day....I moved to San Diego in 1979 and discovered this place in 1985 when it first opened. Coming from Pennsylvania I couldn't believe it. It was such a cool hippie dippy groovy vibe It has become insanely expensive and unnecessarily over priced. I drive there 20 miles occasionally. The last 2 times I picked some chicken sausage Italian hot and mild. (My favorite for adding to my sauce) I unwrapped the sausage as I was cooking it I began to notice a nasty smell... tasted it and spit it out. Had to throw it Away !! Sunday April 19th 2026 I was in the area for a BBQ and stopped in as I wanted to pick up a couple things. I bought for myself the usual sausage thought I'd give it a try again and then I bought a ""wrapped chicken breast stuffed with cherries and apricots and some other fruits"". It just sounded so incredibly delicious. When I got home I threw the sausages in the freezer put the chicken in the refrigerator. I just wanted to save it for Monday. It's 6 o'clock. I started to preheat my oven at took the package out, opened it up and was literally near VOMITING... I have never smelled anything so bad, when I unwrapped it from the saran wrap it had this kind of nasty coating on it. It just was AWFUL. I was stunned and I was pissed off. I literally jumped in my car at 8 o'clock PM drove 20 miles to Cardiff, I was so mad. I asked to speak to the manager, of course at 8 o'clock there was no manager. There was an assistant manager. I handed her the package and asked her to smell it and she absolutely said "no thank you I don't need to do that." I got the feeling it wasn't the first time this has happened. She was very kind and very nice. She said she would have the manager Call me after we wrote some notes down. She said he would probably call me sometime Tuesday after he got in. I Never heard from him. It's Thursday still have never heard from him. I really thought that a little gift card would be a nice gesture for someone who went out of their way to return a $12 chicken breast. Imagine if I didn't have a sense of smell and I had eaten that, I would've freaking wound up in the hospital !!! I don't usually visit this store during the year anymore, for the reasons I've stated in previous reviews. But, my family and I really like their stuffing for thanksgiving. I've been buying it every year, for many years. What happened!! What changed!! Nobody liked it this thanksgiving. It was dry, gritty, and looked like it had a large amount of croutons in. Don't know why they changed the traditional stuffing, or maybe someone made it that doesn't know how to make it. It was really bad. read more

Most grocery store fare is what you pick up when you're too lazy to cook and short on time. It's more of a last resort than the first choice that comes to mind after your weekend morning hike. But Cardiff Seaside Market is not your typical grocery store and their sandwiches are anything but typical! We tried the Original Bbq Crack sandwich and it was divine. The slices of brisket were super thin and tender, draped with just enough bbq sauce to give it flavor without overpowering everything else. It was served on a fluffy, beautifully toasted brioche bun. The best part? It's stuffed with crispy fried onions that lend a savory surprise to every bite. Another one bites the dust. 21st Century Chocolate Cake ruined. This cake has been our staple dessert for at least 10 years. Recently it's been hard to come by, my thought is everyone's caught on. I saw it again just today and got it... It tasted more like a 19th century Betty Crocker cake. Tasted dry, bland and nothing special. As tourists visiting San Diego for the first time, we naively tried to drive to La Jolla shores with a plan to just grab some parking and stroll onto the beach. Apparently, it would be easier to simply walk into Mordor than find parking on Saturday afternoon in La Jolla. Chastened, we fled up the coast to get away from the dystopian gridlock. Kids were grouchy and disappointed, and the day was not going well. I had never heard of a Tri-Tip Sandwich, but I read that the best one was at Cardiff along with some nice, chill, accessible beaches. The parking lot was a little gnarly, but we grabbed a good spot. There are time limits on spaces, and I saw someone compliance. We immediately spotted the Tri-Tip sandwich / Cardiff Crack tent outside in a sun-drenched patio with a dude performing some live music. The market itself was familiar to us. It's a lot like Whole Foods or Central market. There's a ton of gourmet / upmarket stuff packed into a pretty small store. Beer section was awesome, and the kids found some great snacks. The tri-tip sandwich lived up to expectations - it was the best (albeit only) one any of us have ever tasted. The seaside spuds potato salad was surprisingly good. Cardiff Seaside Market hit the spot and saved the day. read more

Run don't walk this is the Seaside version of "Erewhon" up in LA. Very high quality produce and all the delicious unique goodies you could ask for. They have an amazing deli and hot food section the Cardiff Crack burrito is an absolute must. I always get one on the way home when I'm visiting friends down here. Customer service is always top notch here, but be warned if you're an "out of towner" like me it gets packed in here and it's a small market. There is a nice big outdoor seating area with chairs and tables, but it can fill up quick on the weekends (esp when the weather is nice out) and the parking lot gets a bit nutty as there are lots of other businesses in the complex. Prices are high here as well so not a go-to for everyday groceries if you're balling on a budget. read more

Perhaps there's something else I'm missing, but in any case, the process is inefficient to say the least and potentially confusing for the uninitiated Ordered: - Cardiff Crack (4.5/5): Generous serving of well-seasoned Tri-tip on some average buns with the sauce on the side. Would've been better had the buns been toasted. Mac salad is underrated. - Seared Ahi (3/5) - special: fresh veggies with a thin piece of ahi in the middle. Would've appreciated a harder sear and, of course, a thicker piece. As with the tri-tip sando, the bread was weak link. Overall really enjoyed the tri-tip sando - if only the bread were better.. Smaller local upscale market similar to a Whole Foods. The meat counter has top meats and the well known Cardiff Crack Tri Tip. These Tri Tips are tumbled to tenderize them. You can buy them raw at the meat counter or precooked at the deli counter. They even have prepacked cut up Cardiff Crack. Some might scoff at the price, but I can tell you it is well worth it!!!! Its unbelievably tender and so flavorful! The deli sandwiches are not your normal sandwiches. The bread and the variations of meats makes them unique and delicious! Also I recommend the meatloaf at the deli counter. If you like cheeses, there selection is huge!!!!It's a must try!! They have fresh local produce which is priced high. Seaside Market does have higher price points than a regular market but its comparable to Whole Foods. Every employee is very friendly and helpful. If you are in the area or want the best Tri Tip around, stop by Seaside Market and pick up Cardiff Crack and take it home. This market has so many options to choose from! Great for a casual lunch/dinner and friendly for all types of food preferences. They have meats, fish, veggies, carbs, everything you can imagine. I got the albacore chef's special sandwich and was amazing. The portion was generous so I had two meals out of it. My husband got the tri-tip sandwich and he liked it but *be aware* if you want the real tri-tip sandwich you have to pay in the cashier inside the market not where all the food is and pick it up at the tent located outside.
