Seasons Noodle has been on my "to try" list for a while. I got take out recently and the hype is real! I haven't been to the physical location but I've ordered Doordash twice (and it came very quickly). Both times I got the Garlic Soy Sauce Tofu Noodle with hand cut flat noodles. The portions were good sized, full of noodles, tofu, broccoli, and bok choy. It comes in a light garlic sauce and I ate most of the broccoli despite not usually being a huge fan of it. My husband got a dish with tomatoes and liked it though he was complaining there aren't appetizers on the menu. Understandable as it's a one person operation. I'd like to try the other noodle option for this dish (regular thin noodles) but the hand cut is so good I will probably keep getting it! Friendly service, generous portions, but the flavors missed the mark I stopped in at The Mercantile on Main while heading from Rochester to Ithaca, looking for a quick lunch before the journey. I initially had pizza in mind, but as someone who's traveled extensively and spent more hours than I can count exploring Chinatowns in LA, San Francisco, and NYC, I was excited to see Seasons' Noodle and decided to give it a try. The staff could not have been nicer--warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about their work. I truly admire independent chefs and restaurateurs like Yan, and always try to support businesses like this. I ordered the Spicy Shrimp Noodle, and while the portion was generous and the presentation solid, I left feeling a bit disappointed. The noodles themselves were nicely done, with a satisfying chew, but the dish as a whole didn't quite come together. The sauce was thin and watery, which left everything feeling separate instead of integrated. The shrimp lacked seasoning and didn't absorb or hold onto any of the sauce, which made the dish feel unbalanced--more like a bowl of ingredients than a cohesive noodle experience. Given the restaurant's inspiration from Northern China--where noodles are often hearty, robust, and well-sauced--I was hoping for something a bit more bold and unified in flavor. In Northern Chinese cuisine, the noodles and sauce should almost cling to one another, often enhanced with garlic, chili oil, or vinegar to bring depth and warmth. Here, it just felt like that final spark was missing. The Mercantile on Main itself is a cool and thoughtfully restored space with a lot of character--it's housed in the historic Sibley Building, once the largest department store between New York City and Chicago. It's now a food hall and gathering space that blends the city's history with a modern vibe. That said, on the day I visited, they were setting up for an event, which made the atmosphere a bit chaotic and distracting--probably just a case of bad timing. I don't live in Rochester, but if I did, I'd give Seasons' another try. Everyone has an off day, and maybe I just didn't order the right thing. I'm still rooting for Seasons' Noodle--because the heart and hospitality are definitely there. read more

Great spot for lunch downtown! I meet up with a friend for lunch. I love that they do hand-pulled noodles. They are in the lobby of a historic apartment complex. Menu is simple as it's one gentleman running the place. Service is quick. Only downside is they don't do any drinks, not even water besides the hot tea at the counter. I finally tried Seasons' Noodle (via Uber Eats delivery) and the food is so good I want to cry. There's nothing quite like handmade noodles, and I'm so glad this place is here in Rochester! I ordered the noodles with stewed tomatoes and beef and the flavor is just phenomenal. Every bite is perfect! The noodles are the perfect chewy consistency -- Asian noodles vary from Italian style pasta in that they aren't cooked al dente, but don't let that scare you. The portion is huge, too. The smashed cucumber and garlic appetizer is my favorite thing, SO garlicky. If you've never had Chinese-style cucumber salad, you need to try this. It really is so flavorful, I can't even really describe it, you just have to try it. I placed my order for delivery on a Tuesday afternoon and the wait time was listed as 55-60 minutes, but it was ready and at my door within 30 minutes. The noodles themselves: absolutely 5 stars. The rest of the dish: 3 stars. The hand-cut noodles are the best noodles I've had in months, no question. I'd be surprised if there are better noodles in upstate New York, the nearest comparable would be in Toronto. The chew and flavor tell you just how fresh they are. That said, the rest of the tomato and tofu noodle wasn't too special: standard store-bought tofu and bok choy, cooked well enough but I'd do the same at home. Strange location as others have noted, but that's kinda part of the charm. I'd absolutely go again because the noodles were so good. And maybe the meat sauces are tastier than the tofu ones. But the point of a noodle restaurant is the noodles, and they excel at that. read more

We ordered Garlic Soy Sauce Noodles with tofu and Garlic Chicken Noodles. Both were delicious! The dishes' flavors were delicate and subtle. The noodles are so fresh. We came here to support a restaurant run by an immigrant who has worked hard to build his own business. He runs the front of the restaurant and makes all the food fresh. The noodles have a nice chew, are not overly sauced, and come out quick. The destination inside an apartment building makes it all the more charming. Half the front counter is a keyboard where the owner practices his Rachmaninoff when he has downtime. The noodle dishes are only about $10.50 and comes in generous portions. The smashed cucumber salad is a must order. I really want to see this business succeed. read more

So, I'm staying at a hotel nearby. This place came up, I read the reviews and I said ok, let's go. So I walked over to Seasons' Noodle by myself and it was exactly as described in other reviews... not much to look at, but just ring the bell, and the man will come out. Good thing I read about the bell, because I wouldn't have known to tap it! I ordered the garlic chicken noodles with broccoli for my entree and the cucumber tomato garlic salad for my appetizer. With all the rave reviews, I had to try it. The gentleman was so nice, didn't speak much, but quickly left to the back. I'm not sure if he cooked it or who, but I waited in the empty lobby for his return. When he returned, he was very appreciative and he told me that he hopes that I like it lol. I took it to go, since the dining room was dark, and I walked back to my hotel. Everything was extremely tasty and the portions were very large. I would get both items again. While the pics don't do it justice because you can't tell the intensity of the flavor- but neither dish lacked any flavor at all. Attention Rochester foodies: if you haven't yet been, get yourself to Seasons' Noodle! The noodles were mind-blowing: the perfect texture being juuust slightly chewy. The flavors of the dishes themselves were likewise outstanding. Some things to note: the business is inside the lobby of an apartment building, but do not let this put you off. Once you ring the bell on the counter, service is quick and attentive. Dishes are made fresh to order and this is part of the draw. While this does take some time, it is well worth the wait. Our meal for two took just under one hour from ordering to packing up the leftovers (we opted to sit and eat in the cozy dining area set up in the lobby). If you need to use the restroom you will need to ask for the key and refrain from flushing anything, including toilet paper. In my opinion, the quality of the food more than makes up for this. Remember: you're there for the food. A very nice touch of hospitality was the free hot tea offered to guests in self-serve style. While far from "fine dining," Seasons' Noodle offers mind-blowing noodle dishes in a no-frills setting, with a friendly and attentive purveyor. Absolutely BANGING noodles!!! It seems like it's a one man show so I understand that the menu is a bit limited (that's my only suggestion), but these were absolutely the best homemade rice noodles I have EVER had. The entrance is a bit strange (it seems like it's in the lobby of an old hotel) but when you ring the bell the guy comes out to take your order. Located right across from the old Cadillac Hotel, it doesn't look much from the outside but it has some of the best noodles I've eaten in Rochester. We went there on a Saturday evening and ordered two dishes - garlic fried noodles with pork and cumin fried noodles with beef. Both dishes were delicious and filling. Definitely coming back to this restaurant next time. Also note that since the section of Chestnut Street has been closed to traffic due to the incident at the building next to the Cadillac Hotel, the door to the restaurant is locked by building management. this guys new location just opened this year, sits right across from the old cadallic hotel. you can't missed it cause he has his poster in the window with an open sign lit up. when you walk in, he's the only one there with some couch seating to the left and table seating to the right where his counter is. I believe its a one man show and he does some great cooking. don't expect to see your usual Chinese food, but this is better. he puts his own twist of seasoning and meat with his home made fresh noodles! hence the name! haha he has about 6 noodle dish options with 3 appetizers to choose from. I will definitely be returning to try some others. I got the cumin fried noodles with shrimp. I got quite a few shrimp that was satisfying enough, but I could always use more. the fresh noodles mixed with the vegetables and cumin seasoning was so delicious and just enough for left overs. the caramelized onion (which I love) mixed with the cabbage and oil added to the flavor with the cumin. it did not taste salty like most Chinese locations but the cumin makes the dish. def tasted more authentic! I ended up calling ahead for take out, he didn't take my name but when I showed up he knew what I was there for. he was super nice and personable and had my food ready. I just love when you can speak to the owner who is also making your food! I went on nye (as I always get Chinese for the night if I'm staying in) being a holiday he didn't seem too busy, but I have heard great things from others for his place I just had to try it. Talking about dives.... this is basically a counter in the lobby of an apartment complex, with a screen door to a back room that he cooks in. It is across the street from the Cadillac Hotel. There are a few tables in the lobby to the left of the main foyer, along with a bunch of condensed Readers Digest books from I think the 1980s. He is the only one there. He is the entire store. After he takes your order, he goes. Rhine one of those big screens to cook. The noodles are fresh. So fresh that he took out sheets of dough, rolled them out, and cut them in the back room while I was watching. This is not your standard American take out. No sesame chicken or other nasty deep fried breaded meat swimming in overly sweet sauce. I got 3 noodle dishes and fried appetizer (to go). Took about 20 minutes for him to prepare and like I said he was doing it by himself from fresh. The fried pork was a little salty but had good background flavor. They are like green bean size strips that are breaded and fried. The noodles, being fresh, had great texture that you don't get with dried noodles and it comes out. The pork noodle dish was fairly well seasoned, and thankfully not too salty. I also liked the beef and tomato noodle dish. The dishes were a tad oily in mouth feel at the end. It is worth checking out, probably through grub hub if you don't live in the immediate area - parking is kinda scarce and downtown Rochester is meh to me. Located at 50 Chestnut street. No huge sign to go by but trust me it's there. You will need to go in the chestnut street entrance which puts you into a large lobby that looks like there is no business at all there. Small counter to the right is where you "ding" a bell and a very polite gentleman will come out and take your order. It is just him and his wife doing g all the work. Food is made fresh to each order including the noodles. Nothing is pre made and sitting around. There is not much in the way of seating. But we did have a table. As far as eating there the only thing I didn't like was the plastic forks. But wasn't a game changer for me. Also all they have to drink is water. So if eating there I'd bring your own forks and drinks. Now to the food. Nothing was fried and everything tasted amazing! The best I've had in quite some time. Even my picky wife loves the food. The mashed cucumbers and garlic was the best! Never had it before and I will for sure order again. I also had the chicken, broccoli and noodles and omg it was perfect. The cook was covered in flower from making the noodles to order. What a hidden gem this place is. Do yourself a favor and try it at least once. The minute I walked in I felt like I had just been transported to New York City and was walking into one of their secret speakeasy restaurants that only the lucky few know about. It was hard to find, no signage that I could see, just a bunch of for lease signs on the old Columbus building that looked to be abandoned as I approached it. Once I opened the door, I saw their space on the side of the mostly empty foyer. And it smelled delicious! We ordered the #1 beef with tomato and the #3 garlic pork I believe... I managed a picture of mine but I was too obsessed with eating to grab a picture of the pork. Obsessively delicious, good as you're ever going to get at a NYC Chinatown noodle house and huge portions! Run, don't walk! Guys. This is the place. This is my new secret get-away. Imagine walking into the hotel lobby of a Ritz Carlton, but instead of a welcome desk, it's one man, his laptop, an electric piano, and a chalkboard. That is Seasons' Noodle. Set in what can only be described as a rich man's den, Seasons' Noodle offers a simple selection of noodle dishes. I ended up choosing the Pork and Bok Choy, which was that perfect blend of savory and umami. The noodles, which were fresh cut before my eyes, were springy and wholesome, the soy based sauce was unctuous and satisfying, the crunch of the veggies, the chew of the meat! Oh! It hit the spot! The space offers 4 small tables to dine in, and the entire place was vacant the entire time I was there. Basically the perfect respite for a lone diner. The only bit that took away from the experience was attempting to find parking. I circled the block 3 times because of how small the sign was, and the paid parking is definitely not ideal. It may be a pain, but you've got to try the noodles fresh. You've absolute got to. This is definitely going in my books as one of Rochesters hidden dives and one of my go-to spots for getting away from the hubbub of the city! Can't wait to come back! read more

I love this place because the noodles remind me of the street noodles I used to have on drunken nights in Shanghai.
