(I was able to remove the tank in 10 minutes) They charged me in excess of $200 dollars to "get my bike back"! In a word, they are everything that is lousy about the bike industry in general. I am from out of the area but have visited the shop a few times. I've always found the help to be friendly, helpful and sincere. Recently I made a visit to look at a BMW they had listed. Although I opted for a different bike it was no reflection on the SUB team. I just opted for a different model. The only issue I have is the location. Before I took my bike out for a ride, I adjusted my rear brake lever and did a terrible job in doing so. Eventually, it just stopped working on me and I was out riding without a rear brake. I called many repair shops around my area but they were all booked. Even here was booked but I explained to Robert my situation and he understood and said I could swing by for a quick look. When I got there, I was offered cold water and they allowed me to chill in the nice lounge area while Robert quickly fixed my bike. Since it was a quick and easy 15 minute fix, he said it was on the house even though I offered to pay. Shout out to him and his staff for being so generous and empathetic. Motorcycles. I love them so much. Like a lot of kids in smaller towns, I rode little 125 cc dirt bikes growing up. We made our own wooden ramps and carefully sculpted jumps out of mud from hand with neighborhood kids. What a life. Fast forward and I'm in a mid-size city, with my motorcycle license...and still no motorcycle of my own after all these years. I had heard that insurance references multiple matrices that target the lifespan of a regular rider in Seattle to about 7 years. What Debbie Downers! After talking at length with one of my colleagues about Seattle Used Bikes (affectionately called "Sub") I decided to check them out and see what kind of inventory they kept and if there was anything in both my price range as well as my asethetics requirements. (Orange is my favorite color, it just so happens.) Dave was the most informative, non-pressure guy on EARTH to talk bikes with! I had a great time learning more about my fave manufacturer (Ducati) since he spent years running Ducati of Seattle (I met him there before LOL.) I seriously have to offer him a huge fist pump to the fact that he didn't treat me like a "girl" (guys; it's hard to explain) while talking machinery. I can talk about cars and bikes tirelessly. And because I carry a purse doesn't mean I can't whack you pretty hard with it, if needed. The 2008 MV Agusta 910R was pretty much the eptiome of the perfect bike for me. The [Italian] pedals are small for my feet, the height/weight was perfect, and it was still under the 1000cc-size. Did I mention it was ORANGE? Fack. But $12K is just too rich for me for a get-around bike in SeaTown. I told him my *actual* price range. He encouraged me to keep stopping by and to like their Facebook page to keep up on the small inventory. Sent Seattle Used Bikes a request and received a quote with break out of what is included for less than half the dealer cost. Made the appointment with SUB. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the shop and COVID safety measures during drop off. They had a nice collection of unique bikes for sale in the showroom to drool over while I awaited my ride. The tech called me up later to talk about the service and that based on age vs. mileage a few of the 7500 mi. service items might not be necessary - ended up saving over $1K from the dealer quoted price. I called on a Saturday afternoon and asked if I could take my bike in to have some side mirrors installed (all other shops couldn't fit me in and I didn't have the tools to do it myself) he told me to come on down and he'll have a look. After determining that my handlebars had solid metal bar ends, Dave actually took the time to grind out the metal bar ends and manually attach my new handlebars, wasn't easy work either. Just bought my first bike here. Dave was real cool in helping me understand some things and i never felt stupid asking a question. He showed me how to use everything and what not. So the bike I wanted had clip on bars that were too low. Dave put the stock ones on and it was perfect. When I picked it up it had bar end mirrors and I instantly broke one. Update: I should also note, when I got a safety inspection they failed to note that my tires were over 5 years old and there was substantial cracking within the treads. This is yet another major safety issue missed during my buyers check. I would suggest if you need a safety check, look elsewhere. They missed my old cracked tires and missing cotter pin on my rear wheel. Either of these issues could have resulted in a crash if I hadn't noticed myself. read more

Time and again Dave and et al are the be all end all Ducati shop in the area. Rob is supremely knowledgeable, especially on some of the later model stuff that others have no understanding of. I had an unfortunate and frustrating experience with Seattle Used Bikes (SUB). As such I will not take my business back to them. I would not recommend my friends/family take their business to them. I would not recommend you, the individual reading this review, take your business to them. If you'd like to understand why I feel this way, please keep reading. I scheduled an appointment to have my '73 Honda inspected by SUB. It was running perfect, but having purchased the bike ~1 year prior I thought it important to make sure everything was in safe order. Once complete and no major items were found, I scheduled to pick the bike up after shop hours. When I picked up the bike, I noticed the fuel petcock was left in the ON position. I'm unsure how long it had been sitting this way. I noticed what looked like fuel overflow from the carbs underneath the bike. It was mostly dried up. I started the bike and began to ride home. No more than a mile from SUB the bike died on me. I pulled off the road and began to troubleshoot. The bike would not idle and only stayed on when I pulled the throttle. It ran very rough. The bike sounded like it was running underwater and it lacked any power to the wheels. I was concerned I would need a tow, but was able to get the bike to idle again and nursed it home. I let the bike idle and noticed it was not resting. Instead it was jumping between 1100 and 1600 RPMs. It was clear to me that my engine was not getting the right air/fuel mixture. Something had fouled-up my carburetors (which were cleaned/rebuilt ~2 months prior). I wrote Dave an email that night letting him know what happened and my concern that leaving the fuel on my have played a role in the problem. I was disappointed about the issue, but knew the issue was fixable. I assumed (and hoped) Dave would help remedy the situation. This was a mistake. I phoned Dave in the morning. As I began to explain my ride home, I mentioned my concern about the fuel petcock being left open. I could not finish my sentence before Dave completely dismissed that as a potential source of the issue. He quickly pointed to the fact that my fuel shutoff valve inside the carburetor would have to be malfunctioning to cause an issue. He went on to say that these bikes are designed so you should be able to leave the fuel petcock in the on position when not running the bike, even for extended periods. I could barely get a word in at first. It was clear that Dave and SUB were not going to accept any responsibility for this problem. I expressed discontent that my bike actually ran worse after I took it to SUB than it did before. Dave combated me with a metaphor: "Well would you be mad at your Grandma if you went to her house and..." He went on to tell me that if I wanted to schedule another appointment to have my fuel shutoff values inspected he could do that. I declined. I'm not comfortable with my bike in your possession. It is common knowledge that if you're going to leave a bike sitting for an undetermined amount of time (as was the case here), you should shut off the fuel flow. It says it right on page 16 of my original owner's manual: "STOP.... Set the value in this position whenever the motorcycle is not in use". A simple google/YouTube search for "how does a motorcycle fuel petcock work" reveals the exact same information. The carburetor shutoff valves were put in place as a secondary shutoff when the bike is not in use. It can be prone to failures (clearly). Surely a professional mechanic should understand this. I was disappointed about the running condition of my bike, but I was genuinely put off by the way Dave handled it. He was combative and entirely dismissive of my concerns. He was unwilling to except even the slightest notion that his technician leaving my fuel running could have caused any issue. His only solution was to come back and spend more money at his shop. For that reason alone I will not take my business to SUB. Neither should you. read more

They missed 3 things that left my bike in an unsafe condition. 1. I came in with a used 2006 SV650 I just bought for a safety inspection, as I knew nothing about bike maintenance. They missed that the tires were way over 10 years old and should be replaced. I paid $506 for the check. 2. Asked them to buy new tires and install them on my bike. They somehow installed the front tire BACKWARDS. This is a major safety hazard in rain as water does not shed properly. They fixed this for free when I notified them, hence the 2 stars (otherwise would be one) 3. Took my bike somewhere else next time. They discovered the coolant in the bike wasn't actually coolant, just water, which left the inside of the tubes and radiator all rusted. Not sure how SUB missed this in the initial check. Overall bad experience, and would not trust them to check a used bike for issues if you are new to motorcycling. read more

I have been doing business with this shop since I moved here in 2012. I had brought several motorcycles to the shop over the years and always had a good experience, however the last time I brought a bike in it became a nightmare. Dave the owner told me that he could handle the customization of a older bike that I had. I talked with him about the items and add ins I wanted and we quickly got started on the bike. I dropped it off three months before I had to move. During the first month Dave sent me emails concerning the parts to order and I paid him a total of 1500 for them. Previously when I dropped off the bike we agreed on a ball park price of 3000, Dave assured me he could make it happen for around that price. Fast forward to the day before I have to leave for the east coast the bike is not done, to make things worse Dave wants an extra 4500 from me! After talking to his mechanic its reviled that he has been taken off from working on my bike over 30 times and that's the reason it was not finished. Did Dave ever address this during the time it was in the shop? NO did Dave ever apologize for not living up to his agreement NO. Customers beware. Also recently Dave emailed me and threatened to reply to this review, claiming that he's going to say I I didn't pay the full bill. However I actually made him discount his original bill, since he didn't live up to his promised work to begin with. He discounted his bill only after becoming very unprofessional and threatening to "rip the wires out of my bike while it's in my truck" That's the character of the owner.... Discounted the bill because you knew you had treated me wrongly. You wouldn't have accepted the payment if you didn't accept guilt. We had an agreement of 3000 for the project, you went way above that and never informed your customer he called you on and still payed 2000 above that price and accepted a half built bike. read more

Hey Dave Roosevelt Owner of Seattle Used Bikes, I didn't realize when I stopped by and asked if you could change my dual sport tires to my off-road tires that you would be "doing a favor" for me. At $100.80 I felt like I was paying a premium for your promise of 1 hour turn-a-round time which was unexpected but rad. I leave, take care of a few things and come back. It was an hour to do one tire, that's cool, I can wait. Your tech punctures my front tube on installation. O.K. mistakes happen. I'm good with purchasing a new tube. Oh, you don't have one in stock? O.K. you send your tech down to Aurora Suzuki to buy a new tube, that's fine. My problem is you also told your tech to "stop by the radiator shop too" so I ask how long do you estimate before you finish my tire? "Oh, sorry it's going to another 40 minutes or so. O.K. I can come back. We are now at 2 plus hours for a 1 hour job. I return an hour later and the tech is still not back yet. O.K. I can wait. Another 1/2 hour goes by and so you guys start calling the tech. "Oh he's way up north and it's his lunch time". What happened to my 1 hour Job? I would have been happy to drop it off and pick it up the next day but you kept telling me "just another 40 minutes", "Just another ... whenever he get's back." I finally go home, 4 hours wasted. This is a clear example of over-promise and under-deliver. I get it, shit happens. So I come back this morning and there they are, my tires are ready, 24 hours later. You are so cheerful and say "They're ready, Thanks!" I load them in my car and come back in. You are busy with some customers so I wait. "Hey Dave, I am pretty unhappy with the whole process yesterday and wondering what you can do for an unhappy customer?" You say "well I apologize for it taking longer than an hour but your tube was old and I did you a favor because we don't do dirt bike tires." Perhaps you could have said this before you asked me to bring my tires in. I didn't ask for a favor. Besides, who charges for favors?!? David, this is not a favor. After all of your lame excuses and belittling of me, you finally ask; "what would you like me to do?" How about you refund half my money back, which would have been about $35.00 because I also bought a S.U.B. T-shirt because I thought they were cool and I wanted to support my local small business. You said, "That's not happening and there's the door!" Yes, I protest as I make my way to your door, turning around in the door way to say "goodbye". You feel the need to get less than one inch from my face and say "get the fuck out of my store". I stand my ground defiantly as you call your shop techs out for back-up. I chime in loudly, c'mon guys! Dave needs some back-up over here to deal with an unhappy customer. Your guys come over, apologize profusely for their employer and say "I told him not to charge you anything". Thanks, I appreciate that but I only asked for half back. So, here we are at the end of my rant. Moral of the story? Think three times before you do business with Dave Roosevelt of Seattle Used Bikes. He is an angry man that would rather take your hundred bucks now than to earn a good customer for any amount back out of his pocket. I'll be dropping off the T-shirt, still has the tag. Trusting your motorcycle to a repair shop is no easy feat. Firstly, far less motorcycle repair shops even exist compared to car repair shops. Then out of this small pool, you're supposed to find the most skilled mechanics who don't treat you like a tool for not knowing how to adjust your own valves. Secondly, if they f*ck up, it could mean your death. Yes, motorcycles are essentially engines strapped to wheels and not much else. They have to be in the best shape possible or you could DIE. Lastly, your relationship to your bike is exquisitely unique. You feel every turn, stop, acceleration, and bump with your motorcycle. And you accept your bike's every oddity, quirk and personality issue. Because when you straddle your bike, no enclosed compartment, bucket seats, and climate control separate you from the unique pleasure of becoming one with your fast moving death machine. This is why, when you take your baby in for maintenance or a simple wrench job, you want your bike to be in the best hands possible. I have a 2012 Triumph Bonneville. I love my bike. I love pulling up on the throttle and feeling the two tires underneath move the earth behind me at many many many miles per hour per hour. When I park it. I always look back for an admiring stare. When I come back to it, I pause to take in its beauty. When possible, I do my own work. But for the more involved mods, I had to take it in to the original dealership. The first strike: they charged me way more than the initial estimate. I get it. Sometimes you run into issues that make the process last longer. I wasn't happy. But I sucked it up. But then on another visit, they forgot to bolt one of my side covers back. I found out it had been hanging on the side of my bike the entire 45-minute ride home. And then had to ride back because they had the bolt. Strike two. And then strike three, whenever I went there, I never felt like I was a welcome part of the shop. I tried to have conversations about bikes. But I really felt like I was at some lower level of motorcycle geekdom. I decided never to go back. So I decided to try SUB based on Yelp reviews. And after doing some Internet digging, I found that the owner of SUB used to own Ducati Seattle. When I mentioned that to a Monster-owning friend of mine, he urged me to check them out because he had fond memories of Dave (the SUB owner) and dealing with that shop in the past. I called SUB and call itself was a positive experience. I wasn't transferred to some other department or put on hold and forgotten. I talked directly to one of the mechanics. He quoted me a price and assured me that they have a ton of Trumpet experience. When you enter, you immediately feel the mom and pop vibe of the shop. It isn't full of plastic or sleek thousand-dollar displays. It's simply four walls with a lot of used motorcycles, used gear, and super friendly staff. Dave greets you as soon as you walk in, and the mechanics greet you too. This is no mega-shop dealer with overeager gangs of otherwise bored looking employees. What you see is what you get. And you get something that has long been missing from the motorcycle scene in Seattle, a small shop where you can lounge around, have some real talk about bikes, and never feel like you're a nuisance or annoying. They even invited me into the repair area, so they could show me the process. Dave doesn't even mind going through Craigslist with you to show you bikes that he thinks are good deals, from sellers who aren't SUB! My experience was unforgettable. I felt at home with the staff there. And other people who dropped by had similar comments. Then when the time came to pay, no surprises at the register. They charged me just as they had promised and even fixed another slight issue that they caught. I left with a smile on my face, and a promise to write this review. This is where I'll be taking my bike from now on. I unequivocally recommend SUB for all your bike repair needs. They may not have the bike you are looking for. But that's ok. You can drop by and Dave will help you find the best bike for you somewhere else!
