When they first opened, we loved the ice cream and the place was spotless. Over time, though, it has become really disappointing. The salad bar was filthy, and the ice cream freezer was covered in buildup, which was pretty off-putting. What made it worse was that the owner was there, sitting on his phone while these conditions were clearly visible. The place wasn't busy at all, so there really wasn't any excuse for the lack of cleanliness. The food is cheaply made, but that doesn't make up for an establishment that isn't properly maintained. We have been wanting to try this place for a while and we did today and totally regret it. The food was AWFUL!! soggy, grease soaked fries, frozen burger patties and a "BLT" on a soggy hoagie with 4 inches of mayo The salad bar bowl is so tiny you can't even get the lettuce in it! We couldn't even eat any of the food, especially after seeing how filthy everything is, it looks like nothing has even been wiped down since they opened! And the employees were just as dirty. Friend told us about this place. We were traveling thru Cedar City and decided to stop in. First impression on outside of building is just what exactly are the serving here? It's a ground up build for starters. It's a little confusing as there are 2 entrance doors and no signage to enter. One side is sandwich's and food. The other is I scream and sweet treats. As we entered we came into an old 60's van that has been made into a salad bar. It looked really good, fresh and well stocked. I did like the remote self pay right at the bar. You can skip any line if you just wanted a salad. So we got in line for ordering sandwiches & pasta. Interesting idea on sandwiches with options for bread or a scone to make your sandwich. This is like a fast food place in SLC called the Sconecutter. They have lots of gluten free options. I ordered the Pastrami Scone sandwich. It was pretty good. Very fresh and tasty. It didn't have much Pastrami. For the price I would have expected at least double what was on it. I did like it , but at $12 it was over priced. May Wife had the salad bar. She was totally into it and loved the selection. At the price point she paid it was great. We also tried the fresh scooped ice cream. It too was great and priced appropriately. In all we did enjoy eating here. It's definitely at the higher end price point. They do have deals, which if we had seen when ordering would've helped. My hang up on rating is lack of appropriate signage telling customer what they have and how to even get into the place. On that as you enter the building on the south there is. Big door with signage telling you about what was behind the door, ( Emergency Pump Room) How hard would an "Entrance" sign be? Would come again now I have seen how it works. read more

This is such a fun place to stop in for lunch. The decor gives a true feeling of old school Americana. The van they have repurposed in to a salad bar! Lots of open seating and even at its busiest it isn't overly loud. They have a great selection of items to choose from. Pasta, ice cream, calzones. The sconewhiches were amazing. Such soft bread and filed with some of the best toppings. Definitely stopping here again on my next trip through Cedar. I really enjoy 2nd East restaurant. My favorite is the Salad Bar. Definitely the best in Cedar City. The pasta has so many choices and options. But you better save the best for last, It's their Icream Parlor. Yup that's right they have an actual Icream Parlor. I decided to try to eat here again that's it's right down the street from where I live. I called my girlfriend and ask her to meet me there. I looked over the menu in preparation for my girlfriend to join me and then I decided to go to the bathroom and clean up and wash my hands. The bathroom was so dirty. The sink sinks were filthy. The faucet was covered with grunge that has been there for probably days. I left the bathroom in discussed and I met my girlfriend in the parking lot and decided to eat elsewhere. The food was delicious . I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with the chicken and then took a trip to the salad bar! My choices were simple and surprisingly tasty. There were a few items that needed to be filled but the ones I chose were great!!! The ambience was "chill". The TVs were on golf, football and soccer ....an okay variety. I couldn't eat all of the food so I did a takeaway. All in all I'd give Second East a solid 8! A few suggestions: check the Salad Bar more often. Don't waste your money! The food is overpriced for what it is and tasted terrible. I got the steak salad and it was iceberg lettuce, 3 cherry tomatoes, a handful and a half of shredded carrots and a small portion of "steak" that tasted and looked like it was more fit as dog food. For $16 it was pathetic and infuriating. Their ice cream was great but it looked like there's a $2 surcharge for getting it in a cup. Service was mediocre at best. I was asking about gluten as I have celiac and they still included the bread with my order and we had to make sure the fries were gluten free, which they are not. For baked fries that aren't beer battered etc this was very surprising and should have been mentioned after asking about gluten free items. Additionally there was no fork, napkin or dressing provided with the salad. I had gotten it to go. Incredibly dissatisfied with my experience and won't return. read more

I've been here three times now in the last three days, twice today! It really is yummy. I like the breadsticks and the broccoli cheddar soup. My husband had a breakfast sconewich and a BLT sconewich. Normally I'd leave five stars, but the problem was with the refresher drink. This morning we got the refresher and asked for no ice. The lady said, "Oh it doesn't come with ice. We just use frozen strawberries." Sweet! Love that. Got it, and LOVED it! But there were a lot of frozen strawberries, which I happily consumed, but I'd rather have a little more of the drink. So tonight when we went again (because I accidentally drank all the refresher and my husband hardly got any), I ordered a refresher again, this time with light frozen strawberries. When we got it, it tasted like skim coconut milk.... I opened it and saw that there was a slightly white drink with lots of ICE. It seems like it was missing half the ingredients. The first one we had was just delightful. This one is not worth drinking. Like I want to drink it because I got it, but it doesn't taste good. So that's a bummer. I'd suggest making sure you know what you're getting. Naturally I wasn't brave enough to speak up and ask for a replacement, but I do regret that LOL read more

We have been waiting to try 2nd East. It's been on our radar for weeks. We went in for dinner on a Friday evening. The restaurant was very busy. We each ordered the small salad and then we split the # 5 Our friends who were with us, ordered the small salad and they split the chicken Alfredo. We were very impressed with the variety at the salad bar. Many items to choose from. They had 3 types of salad mixes to choose from. Iceberg, spring mix, and baby spinach. They also had several types of dressings available. Our #5 Amore Mio was so good. The grilled chicken Wes on point with the button mushrooms. The Alfredo sauce was just the right consistency. The highlight of the dish was the sundried tomatoes! What a flavor punch to the dish. It was delicious!! Our friends had the #1 Classic. They enjoyed it also. The Owner came out and thanked us for coming in and brought us some fresh hot bread sticks. They were so good. Portion size was just right for the price. Plenty of parking and plenty of tables to sit at inside. They also do drive through. We highly recommend this new restaurant in Cedar City. Give it a try! read more

First time visiting on a Friday evening for a little sweet treat. Discovered the ice cream served here is miraculously delicious. The owner chatted with us for a bit. He is genuinely friendly receptive to comments. He ended up spoiling us with a warm scone served up with some soft honey butter. WOW! Sooo good! I could write a whole paragraph on how wonderful the food was! The Alfredo was creamy and savory with the perfect topping of Parmesan cheese! The salad bar was perfect and had everything to build an incredible salad. Super clean as well. The breadsticks were INSANELY good!! And the Scones. OMG the scones were the best I had ever tasted. Fluffy yet dense and fried to perfection. The honey butter was sweet and fluffy and so perfect! The service was top notch. The owner is so kind and so invested in the community. Food was OK. The red sauce tastes like nothing but stewed tomatoes. Very little if any sort of seasonings. The Alfredo sauce is definitely a white cream sauce, lacking garlic. The building is incredibly beautiful. I also love the layout of the restaurant. they have a very nice salad bar. They do make some fresh cookies that I enjoy. The ice cream is fine. The chicken looks like it is a pre-cooked chicken out of a bag and we found it to be very dry. The meatballs aren't bad, but found those to be a bit hard on the outside from being left in the air too long. Altogether not bad, but I do hope that they add some more garlic and seasonings to their sauces in the future. read more

The hours of operation on the big sign at the restaurant are different from their website & door, that should be corrected. I had the lunch special fettuccine Alfredo & a salad bar salad with breadstick. My husband tried the mama Mia. The pasta was mediocre. Not very flavorful Alfredo. The mama Mia was better but not amazing. The breadstick was dry & bland. My salad was ok. We also tried the scones with honey butter, which was delicious! Unfortunately this place is just another trendy money grab. Although the building is beautiful the food was similar to a public school cafeteria. The noodles and meatballs had clearly been sitting out for to long. The sauce was extremely bland with no flavor or seasoning. The soup was absolutely disgusting. I took two bites and couldn't eat anymore. There were Alfredo noodles inside the soup dish and it was very chunky like it had been sitting out for a long time. Staff was not terrible but not good either. Overall don't recommend for these ridiculous prices. We were all impressed with the beautiful building and decor inside, as well as the cleanliness of the place. Staff was amazing, pleasant and helpful. And the retro Dodge van salad bar ... really cute! Each of us ordered something different and all were satisfied with the meal. The one thing that we found disturbing was this: A "single" serving of pasta is served in a small deep plastic "to go" container. Another thing that seemed off was that the salad bar plate is a very small deep bowl, also disposable. We were just a bit put off by all of the plastic and disposable small narrow portion containers - I felt like I was eating pasta out of a styrofoam cup! If the owners insist on not washing dishes, I would recommend using paper plates for "eat in" diners so we can see the beautiful food presentation and not impact the environment with all that plastic. read more
