There are about 12 preset hot or cold options and a "make it yourself" option, where you choose everything. I was feeling "sharky" so I went with the "Jaws!" A delicious fatty sandwich filled with turkey, baked ham, roast beef, Applewood bacon, shredded lettuce, tomato, sharp cheddar, mayo, salt & pepper on sliced sourdough. This is the epitome of a stacked lunch sandwich, it literally looked like something out of a Tom and Jerry cartoon. The crispy bacon and fresh turkey paired great with the cheddar. To make it even better the sourdough was slightly toasted which gave the sandwich some awesome texture. The roast beef was kind of flavorless, but it didn't take away from the sammie experience. The venue is small, with just a few tables indoors and a few tables outside. The parking lot is also tiny, but I got in there just in time to beat the lunch rush. We were driving from San Diego to LAX and wanted to eat something healthy before being stuck on an airplane for 11 hours. I searched for "Sandwiches near me" and Google suggested this place; the pictures made my mouth water. We arrived at 12pm on a Thursday and we were the only ones in there (not for long, though). Staff knew we hadn't been there before by the way we were lost staring at the menu. They had photos for all of their menu items which I found to be SUPER helpful. The cash resgisterian told us the most popular sami's and I took him up on that. I got the #1 which was Turkey, Bacon, and Avocado (with some veggies). My lunch date got the tuna melt. I used the restroom while we waited and it was spotless, well stocked, and the water was hot. It's always nice to know they care about their restroom cleanliness, I feel it's a representation of what goes on in the kitchen. The food came out quickly and my sandwich was SO big I couldn't even put my mouth around it all, which sounds awesome, but I either took multiple bites to get all of the flavor or else I attempted the Shark Bite method where I just go for it with no mercy - this leaves a mess all over my face, hands, and plate. The ingredients were all fresh and placed neatly on the roll, but I felt that there was a missed opportunity to bring in some flavor. Maybe a chipotle aioli or some oil/vinegar mix? My lunch date felt similar to his tuna melt. There was a very generous portion of tuna topped with a tomato and melty cheese, but it just missed the mark of flavor. The tuna could have used some lemon pepper or another kick to leave our mouths wanting more. We both ended up putting Frank's on our sandwiches which really added some good flavor. Overall - the portions and quality is great, but I feel like they held back on that "POW" flavor that would make me a loyal customer (if I lived nearby). I was really eyeing the Reuben so next time I stop in that will be my next victim. read more

Arrived on a Saturday after looking for the best sandwich shop in Laguna area. Place was clean. But enough about that. Ordered the Verraza and the Brook. The Verraza is like an Italian sub with fresh veggies. The roll was tender, crispy and fresh as well as the meat and veggies. The brook was on the same bread and was tasty as well. These are good sandwiches but nothing that raises the bar or says, you have to get here. This seems like a trusty place that will perform consistently. I cannot believe this has been here for so many years and I never knew. I was really craving a veggie sandwich- sprouts, avocado, on squaw bread type on sandwich and yelp directed me here. I ordered the maverick and it was literally the most amazing and delicious sandwich. It was exactly what I wanted. I think I might be eating here daily now. The girls behind the counter were super friendly and sweet too. They sell Coke products which is another check for me as a lot of sandwich places seem to carry Pepsi. I went back and got some hav-a-chips which is also a fun rare find at a sandwich shop. Overall I'd say this visit was a 10/10. The tuna sandwich was everything I was craving + some! It hit the spot perfectly. I had it with a pickle at home and some Doritos. 10/10 Fresh chunky albacore, Creamy avocado, fresh crisp greens on squaw. Drooool. I'm so glad I stumbled across this place. I was feeling SO hungry after my haircut that I had to nab some lunch from a nearby store. I walked inside the Second Reef Deli and was introduced to this really nice, SoCal decored deli. There were a lot of solid deli offerings on the overhead menu- hot and cold sandwiches with quirky names and even some salads. Since I was grabbing something to-go and I wanted something hot and flavorful, I ended up going with the Padang Padang sandwich, which has both chicken and bacon in it (YUM.). The sandwich makers over the counter were cheerful as they proceeded with everyone's orders, and soon, my sandwich was ready to be taken home and quickly consumed. I got home, bit in, and experienced a flavor explosion in my mouth. The chicken was moist and juicy, and accompanied the tomato and bacon inside very well. The bread that was used was good too, adding that perfect slightly crispy texture you want in a typical hot sandwich. In other words, the Padang Padang was a Padang Padang good sandwich. This little deli is worth the business, and I'm excited to try what else is on the menu if I'm in the area again! read more

My wife had the Blacks, which is a tuna melt: tuna salad, cheddar, tomato, grilled, on French bread. She normally doesn't finish big sandwiches but tore right through that one. Although the quality of the ingredients was very good, the portions were not. We each ordered a type of pastrami sandwich. My husband's was the regular pastrami and mine was the Rueben. His was on a roll and I ordered mine on sourdough. The breads were delicious. The pastrami was also excellent but there just wasn't a lot. The sandwiches were thin. Plus mine included what seemed to be a homemade slaw, which was really good, but there was barely any on the sandwich. I went back to the counter and asked for more slaw and the young man looked at me like he wanted to deny my request. He didn't say anything, but did give me about a tablespoon of slaw in a small container. It wasn't enough for both halves so before I ate the second half, I went back again and asked for more slaw for my sandwich. The same young man hesitated and seemed to be considering whether he had to give me any more! I said there was barely any on the sandwich and again he didn't say one word but did give me another tablespoon of the slaw. I think for the price of these sandwiches, $14 each, the sandwiches should have been fuller. No sides were included in the price. Both my husband and I felt that we really loved the flavors but the quantities were measly. The service was fast but the attitude was not customer friendly. Unlikely to return. read more

Been here a few times, its a ok place. This last time I had the italian sub on a grinder roll. It comes with ham, salami, capicola and pepperoni. I had them leave off onions and the raw pepperoni. The sandwich didnt look anything remotely close to the pictures. The sandwich was tasty, but a little small both in size and ingredients as well as the cost when compared to other bigger sandwiches costing the same. My sandwich had 1 slice of each meat on each half. The pictures show multiple layers of each one. I also ordered a small slaw and a large orzo salad. I was not a fan of the slaw, I lean towards sweet slaws and this one was very tart/sour. The orzo is good but it has both feta and kalamata olives. It had way too much feta and combined with the kalamata olives it made the whole salad too salty. read more
