Thursday night, not a special night, they said it would be an hour. We got there after an hour and they hadn't started our meals. Fine, it was only another 15 min. The online menu said 4 pieces of the teriyaki chicken is 10.95 and 8 pieces is 12.95. So I ordered the 8 piece. I thought I was ordering 4 meals and when I got there I was charged for 5 meals. They charged 12.95 * 2 for the teriyaki chicken. The young gal at the front looked to be about 13 years old and I felt bad for her as there were a lot of not so happy customers wondering why their food was taking so long. She apologized for the confusion admitting that several customers have already complained about the online menu. Of course no adjustment in the $65.70 charged. It seems she could have said on the phone do you mean you want two orders of Teriyaki chick? Although the portions were so small that we ate up all 5 meals with 4 people and no left overs. It's frustrating that the restaurants in Sandpoint seem to be no longer able to handle busy times. read more

Great food! The best kept secret Thai food in town! So glad we finally found it after walking around with our GPS and called the restaurant to be sure they were open. We tried to have lunch there on three different occasions, twice it was closed without notice even though it was a regularly listed business day for them. When we did finally get in, the place was cold as an icebox and service was sporadic. We tried two different dishes and were not impressed with either. Prices are too high for what is served, definitely had better. Not to hard to find. Very quaint little place. I had good service. Of course I was 1 of 2 tables. I had the fresh roll and the dumplings first. Fresh rolls were O K, just lettuce and a couple of shrimp. The peanut dipping sauce was very good though. The dumplings I would not order again. They were about thumb size and deep fried. This place is pretty authentic and if you love spice you have to try it out. It's a little hard to find, I'm guessing that is why it's called "Secret Thai Cafe". The name describes the location well- located off the alley next to Eichardts (a well known pub in Sandpoint) and behind Bank of America. It's well worth the effort to find! it is owned by a lovely Thai woman whom also is chef. I can't spell her name but it's very pretty. Now...the food. it was fabulous. cooked to order as Thai should be. fresh, luscious flavors, that slow heat that makes my bald head glisten ( we ordered 3 stars. you can go to 5 but the chef/owner might come out to discuss your sanity). the two of us shared Som Tom (green papaya salad), Tom ca guy (SP) ( spicy coconut soup) and green curry . It was wonderful. I'm so happy to finally have authentic Thai in Sandpoint. It's a very small place, I think only 5 tables inside but I was told when the weather warms a little more (we all hope soon!) they add table outside. I was too full to try the fried banana with ice-cream for desert but plan on coming back and having that first next time, then taking the dinner to-go... They don't have a liquor license but tell me you can bring your own beer or wine. Such a deal! buy it at Eichardts or Pend Oreille winery around the corner! they are open for lunch and dinner but close at 8pm. as it gets warmer and stays light longer they will extend their hours some. The waitstaff (Mary) was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I give Secret Thai 5 stars because I love tiny little hole-in- wall places run by family and friends that serve food made with pride and love where the customers are as likely to talk to you as the staff. One of only two Thai restaurants in Sandpoint. We were staying at the Schweitzer mountain resort, and were looking for some other options besides the places on the mountain. This seemed to have better reviews so we tried it out. The actual location is very small so if you have a large group keep that in mind. We had 12 in our group and we barely were able to fit inside. The cook is the owner and is very friendly. She did her best to accommodate us. The food was decent. The panang curry and tom kai soup were the best two dishes. The pad see yu was also decent. The red curry was not as flavorful as i'd like and some of the other dishes were a little bland for our liking. If you are in Sandpoint this is probably your best Thai option. read more

This place has super nice people and service, which you don't find everywhere. It's kind of a hard place to find, but that makes sense with the name. We got take out, but the inside, although small, looked cute. I had the orange chicken- and sadly, there was nothing orange about it. It was completely flavorless. Just fried chicken in an orange colored sauce, with rice. It was just bland food. My fiance had the kabocha squash, and he said it was flavorful and on the "upper range" of his spice tolerance (and he has a decent spice tolerance). He seemed to like his, but I wasn't too happy. They still have by far the best Thai food in Sandpoint, possibly in the inland Northwest. However, prices keep going up and portions keep going down. Tonight I ordered a pad thai and my wife ordered a pad see ew. Mine was $10.95 and hers was $9.95. The entrees were TINY and did not even include a side of rice. Thankfully we ordered pizza for the kids and had leftovers to keep us from starving. I love the flavor, but if I'm paying $22 for 2 person carryout, I would expect to have leftovers in the fridge tomorrow. For reference, when they first opened a year or two ago, the pad thai was $8.95, and the pad see ew was $6.95, and the portions were much larger. They seem to be making the same mistake that most new restaurants in Sandpoint make before going out of business: when struggling to make a profit, increase prices and reduce portions to cut cost. The correct answer is make your food bigger and cheaper to increase business volume. In conclusion, I would highly recommend eating there if you want to splurge. Make sure you order several appetizers to go with you entrees. If you are on a budget (like we are), then you should skip it. read more

Absolutely horrible! I brought my girlfriend here for skiing and we wanted to try both thai restaurants to see which of them is good to come back to. We got sick here after eating their pad thai and their curry even after waiting 30 minutes when we were the only people on there. The Phad Thai was so good, along with the curry. Wonderful. The girl working was extremely nice and our food was amazing. I love this hidden restaurant! I do recommend getting togo!
