This was my second experience at an all inclusive resort. This is an adult only resort, so no loud kids running around or anything like that. We were here for 1 week and absolutely loved it. Each building has a concierge that is able to handle bookings or notify you of upcoming activities. My concierge was very helpful and communicated with me through whatsapp. You can also use the hyatt app to find this information. The resort offered many things to do throughout the day. There is also a beautiful beach, and the resort is a short walk to the town of Akumal. Activities were endless (in the morning). There are also some activities that have a limit on participants, so you may need to reserve early such as midnight for paddleboarding, or get to them at least an hour early to have a spot. Unfortunately pools were shutdown by 7. There were multiple restaurant/food options. Drinks were everywhere! There was also drink service at the pools. Room service was included and mini fridge restocked everyday. Tipping was not expected here, but they did accept pesos / US dollars. Overall an amazing experience. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is a great place to start.

Nut allergy warning: Don't trust something even if the written ingredients don't have nuts, because quite a lot of dishes use almond milk, almond liqueur, or macha sauce with peanuts. I did have two severe reactions while here purely due to cross contamination, so I would overall avoid anything Mexican (due to the peanut macha sauce) or grilled unless it's specially prepped (because of cross with marinades). The labeling is inconsistent across restaurants and many dishes that you wouldn't expect have do have nuts (for example, the chocolate cake uses almond milk). I would the Preferred Club is worth the extra cost if you drink the higher-end lounge liquor or really like Greek food for the Santorini reservation. Before going: Look for flight deals; book a private shuttle (we used USA Transfers for $205 round trip for two); men, there is a dress code at some restaurants. BRING YOUR OWN MEDS AND SUNSCREEN. It is very pricey on site. The staff: Incredibly attentive. Moments after a fork clinked on the ground, someone was there to pick it up and replace it. Our concierge (shout-out to Francisco and Luis in Building 6) greeted me by name after only one meeting. Food / Daily Activity Review (I'm at Yelp character limit..oops.) Day 1 Dinner: We got to Bordeaux around 7:30PM and were cited a 35 minute wait for 2. Despite no buzzer, they were true to the estimate. My mom had the escargot and surf and turf, I had the beef tartare and "catch of the day" (grouper), and we both had lobster bisque and creme brulee. I'd say the standout here was the surf and turf, especially the lobster. Saturday morning: Preferred Club a la carte meal at Seaside. Huge fan of their freshly pressed green juice and I woke up with coffee and Bailey's. Mom had the eggs Benedict and I had the light omelette with a side of bacon and avocado. We strolled over to Market Cafe to review the buffet after this, and.. honestly, you can basically get everything you want at the buffet and more. Five different kinds of sashimi for breakfast, even more fruits, tamales, etc. In the afternoon, there was a "fish market" popup outside Oceana that we did. All kinds of seafood - scallops, shrimp, white fish, octopus, etc. Two downsides: (1) It was REALLY salty and (2) Despite us asking, something here was cross contaminated with nuts and I had a pretty rough reaction that put me out of service for most of the afternoon until dinner. On the other hand, I know how much Benedryl costs at the on-site pharmacy now ($21 a bottle.. definitely don't forget your own like I did.). Dinner: I was still feeling really out of it but we went to Portofino for dinner. Well, we tried. Arrived at 8PM and were cited with a one hour wait. So we went back to Bordeaux which somehow only had a 15 minute wait. I found out that the chocolate cake is vegetarian but is made with almond milk and the tiramisu at Portofino has almond liqueur. Duck and fois gras had great texture. Sunday - Market Cafe for breakfast and then back for lunch again. Quite a variety of stations like a Vegas style buffet - Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Hibachi. Here was where I had my second allergic reaction despite having a walk around with the host and pointing out what was safe. The mushrooms at the Mexican restaurant had some kind of sauce they identified as a red wine reduction but I'm pretty sure had to be cross contaminated because I reacted nearly immediately to it. Since I already paid for the Benedryl, slammed some meds and waited it out again. Dinner - 7PM reservation for Santorini Appetizer - we both got the Okeanos appetizer. Very buttery, but tasty seafood all around and one of the only places to get mussels and crab here. A dancer came by after our appetizers (lucky timing?) which was some cool dinner entertainment. We both had the lamb shank (very tender, fatty, and one of the top dishes of the trip), and split the prawns and branzino. They brought out banana ice cream and orange marscapone for a nut-free birthday dessert, which were solid. We checked out of our room at 11:30. They take your luggage to the front lobby but you can stay until your transfer van arrives, so my mom got a burger for lunch (I skipped, too traumatized.) Overall, TL;DR: -Decent hard product, some signs of age and wear and tear, mosquitoes were a problem if you're in the forest hammocks, unlucky sargassum season 7/10 -Great soft product unless you've got something outside of their script 8/10 (really me 6/10 my mom 9/10). Don't trust the estimates for dinner waits if you want to go somewhere specific; just send someone over to get in line 30 mins early if it's a busy weekend. -Truly all inclusive, never wanting for food or drink. The food or drink is decent to good (If these were real restaurants, I would not go out of my way to return, but they're better than cruise ships I've remembered and the buffet was one of the best I've been to despite the allergic reactions)

I just got back from spending a week here for my honeymoon with my husband. We had a wonderful time and the workers here went above and beyond to make it really special for us! We booked through Costco, and did lots of research, until we decided on our destination and place. We wanted to try all inclusive, and it was definitely worth it for a special occasion. If you're contemplating staying here, here is a list of my honest pros and cons. *Pros* - This resort is NOT a party resort. Think relaxation and more of a spa vibe. If you like more boring and romantic (which is what we wanted) this is the place. - Lots of pools and places to lounge. We personally avoided the big pool and opted for one closer to our room, which played relaxation music, and had hardly any people. - We don't drink alcohol, but they had lots of mocktail options which made it worth it! - The concierge/workers go above and beyond to make you happy. This is customer service at its best, and if you don't mind being waited on all the time, this is your place. They are quick and happy to serve. -Everyone here speaks fluent English :) -The best restaurants here are the Japanese and Greek one. Shoutout to Antonio at the Greek restaurant for being such a happy and cheerful server -You're treated like royalty here ^^ -The rooms are nice and large, though I highly recommend upgrading to the preferred rooms, as they have a private section of the beach, and entry to the Greek and Oceania restaurant -Lots of food options to keep you happy throughout the day, along with 24 hour room service, free of charge -there's also a good amount of excursions you can add onto the trip. I highly recommend the "cenotes" one. Def the highlight of our trip! *Cons* -We made it clear that we don't drink, and the employees kept pushing alcohol on us. I didn't enjoy this, esp when workers would flat out ask why we don't drink, which is just plain rude. It took my husband complaining to management for them to finally make a note and to leave us alone in that regard. It was smooth sailing after that. -There is a lack of entertainment. The biggest disappointment was the fire/dance show. The dancers did the show in the water, so you could only see the top half of their bodies. We couldn't see anything from the 2nd row and a lot of us walked out. Please fix this! :( -There is a push to purchase timeshares right when you arrive. They hand you glasses of Champaign and there is a sneaky tactic to get you to agree to a free massage or dinner on the beach. Unless you want to buy a timeshare, don't buy into it. I wasn't aware what was happening but my husband picked up on it, and said we weren't interested. Thankfully they didn't push after that, though the guy pitching it to us "Hans" got a little weird to us afterwards. No biggie as it wasn't brought up to us again. - The beach is full of seaweed and not the most pleasant to swim in. The workers do their best to remove it, but it's still pretty prevalent in the water. -Hack tip! The convenient store is super expensive aka $40 for sunblock. I highly recommend going across the street of the resort to the gas station "Go Mart." They have everything and the resort will even drive you to the front of the gate, to exit and come back! -The spa at this resort is crazy expensive. $300 each for a massage. If you're gutsy, step out of the resort and get one in one of the nearby cities for a fraction of the cost. Most people speak English in the surrounding areas. -Note that the turtle tour through the resort is for good ocean swimmers only. Note that I lap swim 4 days a week, and couldn't handle the ocean. They also didn't fit the life jackets well to us, and mine was falling off in the ocean. There were also lots of rules with how to hold your body in the water. Both my husband and I struggled, along with getting sick and thankfully we were helped back onto shore. They also take you pretty far into the ocean. I don't recommend this excursion unless you are used to swimming in ocean water. Not a fault to the guides, but wet suits should be provided, so one can have better traction in the water. The guides were great though! Unrelated but-- -A big tip. The taxis are crazy expensive and rip off tourists. We did public transportation, and went to Tulum, Playa del Carmen etc for $3 each way. Though, someone in your group will have to be fluent in Spanish, otherwise it will be hard to navigate. They will pick you up right in front of the resort :) Overall my cons are pretty nit-picky. We LOVED our stay here and will for sure come back, for an anniversary or something in the future!

Our experience at Secrets Akumal was absolutely amazing. We've heard of some resorts not having great food or drinks, or hounding guests for extra money for certain things. At Secrets it was the complete opposite. The food and drinks were soooo good. We were shooting a wedding (videography team) and aren't drinking alcohol, so we got all virgin drinks which were fantastic. The atmosphere around the entire resort was so gorgeous and relaxing. We were constantly greeted by kind concierges and all staff who were attentive to our needs and were so kind and gentle. We would 100% come back to this resort to experience the beautiful vibe and experience. The airport was the only negative part of the experience, but had nothing to do with the resort. I would recommend this resort for any brides and grooms either looking to get married or for a beautiful honeymoon spot. Haven't tried many other resorts (especially in mexico), but highly highly recommend this one!

From the minute we walked into the resort I KNEW we chose the right one. The service was amazing. We were given a tour of our suite and introduced to the people who would help us during our stay. The food was amazing and the coffee was strong. My favorite place to dine at was the seafood spot called Oceana and of course Coco Cafe. The amenities and non-alcoholic drinks were DEVINE! i could float in the pool drinking strawberry margaritas all day. It was such a beautiful time and i'd def will be back.

At Secrets they really know what it means to be a quality resort. While I didn't make it to every restaurant, every meal I had at each restaurant was good and the service was top tier. The room service was also very efficient as well. The various entertainment throughout the day and on each day was enjoyable as well. There was things such as their version of "The Voice", a live band, and a guacamole making class. I also had the opportunity to enjoy the spa by getting a massage. The massage was very nice, I almost very asleep! For all my nursing/pumping mamas, they will freeze your milk for you! Just be sure to have it properly labeled etc. The rooms are very nice and clean as you would expect. Overall a great experience, I would certainly come back.

Okay, where do I even start! The location is perfect. The weather perfect! The food was delicious. The staff was the best I have ever experienced on vacation. The rooms were big and beautiful. Jacuzzi outside on the patio was super fun! The activities and the entertainment crew were FANTASTIC!! Jonas, Liz, Oscar, Max, Arantxa, Dani, Alan, Lxchel, Isabella, and Alejandro, thank you all for your hard work and all the fun activities. The Spa crew, Jesus, Reyna, Melissa, and Louisa, I have never felt so relaxed in my LIFE! Perfect, just perfect!!!! And my ULTIMATE FAVORITE is Gerardo, he was our conciergefor the week!!!! BRAVO GERARDO BRAVO! Gerardo, from the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to make sure our stay was a special one. He made sure to check in with us everyday and made sure we were comfortable. I really am going to miss him. He will always have a special place in my heart and my memories of this special place. Thank you staff and crew for an Amazing vacation.

Amazing resort! They have gluten free pizza cooked in a wood oven, close to the beach. The resort is clean with tons of shade. There is a lot of trees and greenery to keep you covered. The beach is clean and no seaweed like up the road in Playa. I wood never go back to any resort near Cancun or Playa after coming here. The beach and water are clean.

We really enjoyed our stay in Secrets Akumal. The resort is recently built so everything is relatively new. The staff was really nice, especially the entertainment guys- Jorge and Louis Enrique, server - Ayram and bartender- Dmitrio. Himitsu restaurant is a must visit. Me and my husband thought that it would be great for the Desires dance club to list what genre of music would be playing tonight. Also, it would be great to have fresh juices served not only in breakfast but also at lunch at the Market cafe. Importantly, we haven't seen such an amazing service for a long time! We definitely recommend this resort!

Returned for our annual mother daughter trip and once again had a perfect stay. Room 4205 was incredible and we called it our frozen tundra and it felt so good after a hot day in the sun in such an incredibly beautiful resort. I am going to try and review some folks and activities that I didn't have enough room for in my trip advisor review. If you love a jungle feel with the most beautiful foliage and incredible wildlife, you will adore this place as we do. A new thing was seeing two raccoons in the rafters over the restaurant staring down at us. So cute but they let out a scream that makes you think someone is being murdered! Lol, quite entertaining. Beltran and Francisco took care of us by the activities pool and our drinks never went dry. Can't get enough of the pizza oven and the one thing I forgot was the FISH FRY day! Oh my word, the fried fish and biggest fried shrimp taco day was heaven on a plate. They also had octopus and marlin tacos. I am telling you that could be my last meal on earth. Thank goodness my husband and I are returning in August! Oscar, Ivan the Chef and Luis Carrillo and Lucia Antonia from activities ran that fish fry and when I win the lottery, they are coming to my house! Javier took care of us at breakfast at Market Cafe and had my mimosa ready every day. Who ever invented beef tinga is a genius. I just think it should be a daily dish like the black refried beans! Like a warm and spicy Mexican beef stew. I guess you can see how much we enjoy this resort. I call it adult summer camp and love every activity they have . Tiny but mighty Diana will put you thru some exercise and Rene will keep you laughing. We so enjoyed Dania and Tony while snorkeling with the sea turtles. Service is impeccable!

Came here for a solo trip in 2020. It was one of the best solo trip I ever had. On site snorkeling is the best. I have seen so many different fish, turtles, I hang out in the water and many butterflies flying around. It was beautiful. I rented out cabana for the days I was here. Well worth the upgrade. Friendly and efficient service. I did a number of spa treatment on site. Their strength is the skincare and body care. Massage was so so. Food was overall okay. Wait time was long. Shows were good. Drinks were okay. Once things are more settled, I am planning for coming back for another week. Will definitely try scuba diving this time!

Here is our long but comprehensive review! Happy to answer questions in the comments. We stayed Tuesday to Tuesday, June 18-25. We booked through our travel agent a preferred Jr Swim-out suite and used Southwest non-stop both ways with private transfer to and from the resort. We arrived at the resort around 6:00 pm. Preferred check in was a breeze and they had drinks and food for us in the preferred club while check in was completed. After check in we saw our room in building 6, where we met on concierge, Sergio. Sergio was amazing, you could literally ask Sergio for anything and he would get it. He even got us an item my wife desperately needed one evening after 06:00 pm, when he should have been off. The rest of the night we went and walked the resort, came back to the room and ordered room service for dinner since we were both exhausted from traveling. We had no problems getting chairs by the pool and did not notice the "chair game". Everyday we were up around 8, went to breakfast, went back to the room to change, then headed to the pool always around 09:30-10:00 am there were many chairs available. We always chose to set up at the main pool (the one closest to the beach) with the swim-up bar. Sharon was our server. I don't think our stay would have been the same without her. She just doesn't serve the food and drinks she brightens the day and starts the party. We called her shot Sharon. On Wednesday at Oceana they have a free tuna carving demonstration. When it's over you get to taste all the different ways tuna can be prepared. The grilled tuna is amazing! Overall the food was excellent! I will break up my thoughts into breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast: We were preferred but we never did the preferred breakfast at Seaside Grill. We loved the variety of the buffet. They had a variety of American and Mexican options. Including and omelet station which my wife loved and a shake/smoothie bar which I loved. The shake/smoothie bar is also where you can get any kind of mimosa made or Bloody Mary. In our opinion the room service breakfast was limited and we never chose this option. Lunch: Seaside Grill was awesome for lunch! My wife said the burgers were "amazing because the meat actually tasted like back in the states". We also enjoyed the popups by the pool. The chicken quesadilla that Sharon would bring us from Barefoot Grill was amazing. Pizza is every day, and they also rotate seafood, burgers, tacos, nachos, wings of the grill, and probably others we missed. Dinner: We did not try all of the restaurants for dinner. We were gifted a romantic dinner on the beach for our honeymoon and that meal was by far our favorite. The steak and lobster they served for the romantic dinner on the beach were so delicious. You do have to pay extra for this but it is worth it in our opinion. My wife is not a huge seafood fan so we stayed away from Oceana, Himitsu regular menu, Bordeaux, and we canceled our reservation at the Greek restaurant, Santorino. My favorite of the restaurants you don't have to pay for was El Patio and my go to there was the bacon wrapped shrimp. My wife's favorite was Portofino and her go to there was the Chicken Parmesan. We also thought very highly of the teppanyaki experience at Himitsu and recommend you schedule this with your concierge the day you arrive because it books fast.If you are a non seafood eater, like my wife, there are great options at any of the other restaurants. For drinks our go tos were for my wife Malibu and Diet Coke and for me frozen Bahama mama with malibu rum instead of vodka. We also enjoyed the espresso martinis, strawberry daiquiris, pina coladas, and pineapple mimosas. When in doubt, ask the bartender or server for their favorite drink or shot! There were at least 4 weddings going on during our visit, so there was a mix of couples, friend groups, and families with older kids. We met a lot of great people and made some great friends! Overall you will have an amazing time at the resort! My wife and I have both been to Mexico a few times and stayed at multiple resorts even other Secrets and we don't know how another resort would top this. We definitely recommend and look forward to returning sooner than later. THIS WASN'T GOODBYE, IT WAS WE WILL SEE YOU LATER!!!!

We had a great time at the resort. The grounds were beautiful and very well kept. Preferred club was definitely worth the price as the room and areas to lounge were a bit more exclusive and nicer. We enjoyed many days on the beach and service was splendid. Fransico who worked/served the preferred club beach chairs was very attentive, super funny and made us feel valued. Our time in his area was the best. We loved the market cafe and wish we ate more lunches there than at the restaurants. Super good buffet style food.
Highly recommend this place! Came here to celebrate an Anniversary and was blown away by the service the entire stay. We were greeted as soon as we got in with champagne and water which was nice after a 1.5 hr drive from Cancun airport. The facilities were super clean the entire time and noticed consistent maintenance throughout. As an all inclusive location I do have a high expectation when it comes to food options and they did not disappoint. The staff consistently offered help or to get us something. Our room was amazing, although not exactly the ocean view you could still see great sunrises and sunsets. We became members as the pricing and options of stay were just too good to pass up and we do expect more travel to the areas that they have. I would highly recommend a stay here. read more

We returned to our Secrets stay in Akumal for a sixth time and I have to say that it was the best trip yet! Everyone at the Secrets resort in Akumal treated us like royalty from the minute we stepped off the shuttle. From Abraham, Erik, Esteban and Orlando bringing us refreshing drinks at the pool to Antonio making sure we had everything we needed throughout the day. We never had a want for anything. The food at the Italian restaurant (Portofino) was excellent. Diego and Luis provided a fabulous service experience. Araceli, our Concierge went out of her way to seek me out and wish me a happy birthday. She had our room decorated in celebration. These great people are all amazing and are the backbone of the resort. Four people deserve even higher recognition. They went above and beyond our expectations and should be acknowledged separately because of how they treated us. On our first day, Oliver (on the entertainment team) recognized us from previous visits and welcomed us with open arms. He stopped by almost every day with a warm hello. He and another gentleman named Eliezer (pool concierge) brought me a birthday cake at the pool. Eli had a great energy about him accompanied with a warm smile. He sought us out on our last day to say goodbye even though he wasn't working in our area. He was very special! Marco in the sports bar was awesome! He made the best cocktails! He even memorized our pink and black yeti cups, knowing exactly what went in them every time. You can tell he cares about the quality of the cocktail he makes. His blackberry margaritas are the best of the resort. He even personally delivered coconut's filled with the perfect concoction poolside (something a bartender does not typically do). Thank you for the excellent service Marco! Lastly, Francisco was our server at the third (quiet) pool. He is the hardest worker I have ever seen. He never stops serving drinks and piles of plates filled with food. A refreshing and positive experience followed with questions of what he could do to make our experience even better. He should be recognized as a great asset to the company and the business model for what service should look like for any business. Overall, we had an excellent time at Secrets Akumal and would highly recommend this beautiful property and the surrounding area. Can't wait until our seventh visit read more
5 stars is truly not enough for this absolutely amazing all inclusive resort! Secrets Akumal is located about an hour & a half from Cancun airport and is just north of Tulum. I enjoyed 7 glorious days here and let me tell you, it was heaven on earth! The grounds of this resort is a lush tropical paradise; wildlife (iguanas, lizards and birds mostly), beautiful exotic flowers, plants and trees galore. If you like staying active on vacation there's beach volleyball, yoga, snorkeling, water sports, pool aerobics & spin classes. As of last week, the gym is currently still closed but they do put weight benches and free weights right outside the door and if you would like a yoga mat, just ask! The resort is big enough to get in your daily steps just by walking here & there but not so big that you'll get lost. Pretty easy to navigate and you'll get it down after a day or two. We loved all the restaurants; Himitsu, Bordeaux and Portofino being our favorites for dinner. It was great being able to try so many dishes. We opted for the house wine & champagne; no complaints, everything was good and paired nicely with meals. The steak quesadillas and chips with pico & guacamole from Barefoot Grill (pool bar) were definitely a favorite; we had them almost everyday as a pre lunch meal! Paired very well with some cold Coronas or a Don Julio Margarita. Seaside Grill is epic; a la carte breakfast included fresh fruit, pancakes, yogurt, crepes, Mexican omelettes, Eggs Benedict and much more. They offer green juice, fruit smoothies, spiked coffees, mimosas and anything else you would like from the bar. Gabriela & Edgar both need to be recognized for giving exceptional service each and every day. It was sad to say goodbye to them. We also had lunch everyday at Seaside Grill as well. I'm 100% honest when I tell you I had the shrimp tacos every single day for lunch including the day we had to go home, 1 hour before our transfer came! Other favorites at Seaside were fish tacos, ribeye tacos, Caesar salad, lime soup and the tamarind wings. Enjoyed sampling different margaritas also; the passionfruit, jalapeño and cucumber margaritas were our favs. Coco Cafe (open 24 hours) offers endless coffee drinks, tea, ice cream, croissants and all kinds of sweets & treats. The coconut ice cream is a must!!! We had it everyday! Pistachio and strawberry were our other favorites. Our concierge Yair also provided exceptional service during our trip. We enjoyed talking with him throughout the day and he made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you, Yair! We enjoyed our swim out room immensely (we would book it again) and building 3 was perfect for us. Our swim out had full afternoon sun and we took advantage of that almost every afternoon after lunch. Housekeeping is wonderful; just give them a ring if there's anything specific you need like extra bath towels, toiletries and whatnot. Feel free to call them early evening to schedule turn down service while you're at dinner. We were pleased with everything the resort had to offer as preferred guests, especially the Preferred Club Lounge. Throughout the day into the evening they provide (buffet style) hors d'oeuvres like spring rolls, mini antipasto salads, small sandwiches and bite sized desserts. As preferred guests your building will be closer to the beach & pools, you'll get snacks in your room, shooters and beers in your mini fridge, access to preferred lounge for snacks & apps with top shelf liquor and complimentary hydrotherapy at the spa (we absolutely loved it and would do it again). Definitely book preferred if all that sounds desirable to you. Though mostly couples (gay and straight), all are welcome here at Secrets Akumal. Plenty of moms & daughters, groups of friends, small bridal parties, parents with older kids, honeymooners etc. All of the staff are friendly & polite. It's not a crazy party resort; though there's plenty of fun entertainment but note that everything shuts down around 11 pm. Definitely a chill and relaxed atmosphere. I would absolutely 100% book Secrets Akumal again; truly can't wait to go back! Thank you for a wonderful vacation! read more
There have only been a few times in my life that I get someone and am in awe. At this point in my life, I've been there....done that and there's not much to surprise me. This resort delivered an awe moment time and again. The four of us had the most incredible experience of our lives. Kudos to whomever hires for this location. There was never a time an employee passed me without smiling and saying hi. Most of the staff actually will go out of their way to make sure you are happy and having a good time. The funniest thing about it is, it sometimes felt like a competition to see who can take better care of you. This resort to a dream and actually the only vacation I have been on, that we are already planning to go back. This is a dream vacation and a dream location. All inclusive and NO KIDS is truly the only way to travel. Gracias...Gracias...MUCHO GRACIAS Kelly and I are already planning a return trip. read more

Amazing all inclusive hotel!! Pros: -Very friendly staff, clean hotel rooms, good selection of restaurants and daily activities. - They make their drinks strong! The bartenders definitely know their drinks! -Love the 24/7 hour cafe coco. I got water bottles there at 2am. -The resort was clean. Plants and trees were well taken care of. -Lobby area was beautifully decorated and we got champagne when we got there. -Free snorkeling. -A lot of daily events going on at the resort such as Spanish lessons, bike rides, gym classes, water paddle class, etc. -Love the jets in the hotel rooms. -Good Shower pressure. - Some of the restaurants are very good: my favorite is Oceana. I also love the Italian restaurant. Cons: -The downside is the beach can be crowded and hard to find a chair so go early. -Another downside is the service at the dinner restaurants can be slow. We waited for 45 mins for our food at Oceana and the El Patio place. -Very limited breakfast and lunch options. -Room service is very very slow (over 1 hour at times) and the food is not good. The fish ceviche gave me a stomach ache and it tasted funny. -Pool and hot tub closed early. -Expensive resort. Love this resort overall even though it's very expensive! read more

I can't even begin to explain how outstanding this resort was. I literally dream of going back!the grounds are pristine, the employees are all extremely friendly and attentive. The location is phenomenal being right on the beach with no seaweed as the workers clean it daily. All the food is excellent and walking distance into the town of Akumal wasn't far at all and was such a fun day trip. It's definitely geared toward the people who just want a chill relaxing time. No crazy party life and that's just what we wanted! When we come back to Mexico we will only stay here!! I could go on and on, highly recommend! Just book your trip! Not to mention there's no kids and it's all inclusive... how do you get better than that!! read more

Amazing property, their attention to detail is impressive. We had lunch on the beach several days (on the sand, not near the beach)and after lunch the ice cream cart shows up on the beach. All of this is included. Room service is 24-7 and each building has a concierge to help with anything. read more

Hotel is neat, the employee's are nice and friendly. This hotel is very quiet, they don't put loud music or that type of party it up hotel. If you want a hotel to be in peace this is it. I don't recommend the pool in the rooms because people barely use them. Bring cash to tip waiters. read more

Had such a nice time, they were super accommodating with my shellfish allergy in ways I've never experienced in the US. Bali bed was amazing and good price, activities were fun, crowd was fun, food was amazing. Also, if you want to snorkel with sea turtles definitely pay for a guide, you really can't see them if you go out alone. **Be advised while it says gratuities included there's definitely an expectation to tip and the staff let's you know that. ** read more

Just don't do it. There's better places in the riviera Maya this is not the place to relax or enjoy Mexico. I wished I had seen the one star reviews before choosing this place. Management is non existent. Untrained and unprofessional employees all trained to say " No worries " "no problem " but unable to solve any issues. A terrible experience all around. The building concierge is just a hall monitor but he is not even there. The head of concierge unable to comprehend simple things or solve any issues. No manager was available until we were leaving. The poor people working there were just thrown to do work without the proper training like the lady making coffee in the morning, wasn't a barista simply was cleaning and trying to figure out the espresso machine. The hair and make up ppl are the same ladies cleaning the spa and then tried to work on your hair with out being trained to be stylist or an esthetician! This resort takes advantage of the locals need for work and gives them a title and name tag to perform duties that they don't even understand. We must've talked to dozens of people to get simple requests and they were just unable to perform. Shame on this corporation for taking our money and the poor treatment and exploration of the workers. Yes,the place is beautiful but the constant fumigation smell and the poor service makes the place feel like hell. The restaurants never had availability even though there were empty tables all around. read more

OMG I'm in love with this resort. It was exactly what I needed. Now I do have some cons to list but I still give this place over all 5 stars. So I not too long got back and it was exactly what I wanted. Relaxing. They were abouut 30% capacity. We didnt have to wait to be seated at any restaurant except 1. The asian restaurant was completely booked so plz reserve there as soon you reach. The beach was clean. Had no problem finding chairs. There was no night life honestly but we created our own. The food was yummy. I didn't get sick not one time which is a norm for me when I eat resort food. The drinks were not premium but we did upgrade and got moet at one of the fire shows. That allowed us to sit all the way in the front. We also paid extra for a seafood dinner that was absolutely delicious. lawd!! The pool was pretty empty. Few times we were the only ones in it. We rented a small private boat to check out a really cool lagoon. Honestly secrets knows how to treat their guests. Our room had a private pool view which wasn't the greatest view but I appreciated the balcony size. There was a big jacuzzi in the room thst gave some trouble but eventually served its purpose. Listen to me, this place is beautiful. Def not a party resort but super romantic and relaxing. Oh the spa was a must. **Standing ovation read more

Dear guest,…
I stayed here Thankgiving week with my boyfriend, and we had a blast. Pros: Location - The property itself is located right next to a nature preserve where you can snorkel and see a ton of sea turtles! It's so incredible that there is so much wildlife right off the beach. We also saw a ton of tropical fish and 2 rays. The resort is also located 20 minutes away from Dos Ojos Cenote (so worth visiting IMO) and 30 minutes away from Tulum. We visited both during our stay and loved the convenience. Service - Service here was fantastic, and COVID protocol was definitely present and appreciated. Even though masks were not required, we can definitely see that a lot of thought has been in place to make guests feel comfortable. Property - The property is beautiful. I don't think photos have really done it justice because when we arrived, we were shocked by how beautiful and serene it was. We had a swim out suite, and although the pool was not heated, we loved the greenery and our room. Cons: Food - I think the food is here just okay. There are definitely some better places to eat (i.e. El Patio) and some worse places. I would rate it around 3.5/5 for food. But I think this property makes up for food quality with its other strengths like its service, ambiance, and location. Overall, we loved our stay here so much. We would recommend it to anyone looking to explore the Tulum area, or just anyone looking to wind down and relax. read more

We had an amazing time. the staff was very friendly, accommodating and attentive each and every day. The food at each of the restaurants was delicious. We had an amazing experience with Angel and his wellness sound vibrations on the beach the last day we were at the resort. He had an incredible energy and spirit and made a huge impact as I move into retirement after 39 years of teaching. We highly this resort! Sherri and Brett read more

My wife and I just returned from a week in paradise! Wow! Secrets Akumal was all what we had read in many reviews...wonderful! This was our first trip to this resort and we plan to return soon. Other than some rainy, windy days, it was a fabulous experience! I have a hard time understanding those that have negative reviews because our experience was so fabulous. However, we understand that each person's experience is very subjective. Overall, 9/10 rating. Service All the staff went out of their way to be helpful and were genuinely kind and caring. Amazing service! Every encounter was that way and all were pleased to serve us with an amazing attitude. All staff greeted us wherever we went always making us feel at home. Special shout out to Fernanda our concierge at building 3! Awesome! She was on top of her game making sure we had what we needed from activities, room needs, lost phone, reservations, miscellaneous stuff, etc. She was truly amazing, never making any request we had feel like an imposition, but instead graciously helping us with anything we needed! Also, Ivan at Bali Beds! He went above and beyond to meet our needs on the beach! He was genuinely kind and informative about our stay. And also Felipe at Bali beds was so funny and always there to serve drink and food orders. Made us feel like family. Rating 10/10. Food What can I say? Amazing! The food was wonderfully prepared, presentation was phenomenal and it was all just delicious. Every single waiter was personable, accommodating and just friendly beyond belief!! Smaller portions were just right for me. The smaller portions allowed my wife and I to try an appetizer, main dish & dessert without leaving feeling miserably stuffed! The chefs hit home runs each meal and course. The cordon blue at Bordoux is a must! We tried all the resort restaurants and I was amazed at how nice the restaurants were and the meals were all top notch! Chefs table (tequila tasting)is a must do! We really enjoyed the tequila tasting chefs table and did not regret the unique experience! Chef Guillermo & Angelica our Sommelier, were just wonderful, and you could tell they enjoyed what they were doing. Rating 9/10 Resort From the immaculately manicured grounds to rooms that were so very nice and clean, we were constantly refreshed with the feeling of being in paradise every where we went at the resort. The three pools were clean and so refreshing. We loved the swim up bar and relaxing by the pool. Never had an issue of not finding a towel or lounge chair. The pool staff were hard working to make sure you always had a drink. We especially liked the resort wildlife that made us happy as we observed new species of all different kinds of birds and animals. Rating 9/10 Beach Wow! Very well manicured beach with staff keeping it constantly clean and security making us feel safe. Servers all around getting drink or food as needed. Many hours soaking in sun, enjoying ocean breeze and sounds. The water was so blue and mostly clear the days we were there. Some rainy and windy days stirred up sand to cloudy waters. Snorkeling was amazing and saw many beautiful fish and saw some turtles as well. Enjoyed watching the sun rise at 6:30 am...so awesome! 8/10 Must Do Activities Spa Snorkeling Shopping in Akumal Fishing with local boat excursions Shows at night Bali Beds Chefs Table Great job SA! read more
Secrets Akumal was a gorgeous property! Perfect for couples. The lush landscaping and thoughtful design encouraged romance at every turn. The rooms were perfect--large, comfortable, and clean. The staff was amazing, so friendly and accommodating! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. They have a clean beach and pools with lots of complimentary lounge chairs and attentive staff. (Tips are not required, but we found even a small tip was really appreciated by all the staff.) The only issue we had was our "VIP 30% off spa perk" did not apply to the spa package we purchased because they said it was already discounted. That would have been good to know that in advance of our stay. But we understood. Sightseeing tours and dining experiences were offered, but never pushed. We stayed on property our entire trip. Kayaking was offered, but we skipped it. (It was pretty windy that day.) We snorkeled by the hotel beach (gear is provided but we brought our own masks). We saw fish and a sting ray. The evening shows and events were great. We loved the arts festival, especially learning to macrame. The fire show was great too. It was supposed to be put on poolside, but it was raining. I thought it would be canceled, but the staff quickly reacted and moved the show into the theatre. They always had a plan B to ensure everything went smoothly. Super impressive! Overall our trip was wonderful and we did not want to go home! We would definitely visit again! read more
We came here to get away and relax for a week. They have very stringent Covid-related guidelines. They do temperature checks on arrival, sanitize your shoes and bags, and they also individually wrap all silverware/cups/controllers/soap etc. in the room. The hotel was running at 30% max occupancy, but on some days felt like there was a bit more than that. All staff wore masks and were really friendly and helpful. Everyone from the concierge to housekeeping made us feel at home, and the food was surprisingly really good! All of the restaurants have a theme, and we didn't have a meal we didn't like (we did have one or two we didn't care for, but not dislike). All drinks/food was included in our stay, and you could order very top shelf booze and wine for an extra cost. Tips/tax were included in everything, but we still tipped all the staff throughout our stay and they were very appreciative. One thing that became a theme was that they split our reservation into two, and had us switching rooms in the middle of our stay on Thursday. We thought we fixed this at the front desk when we checked in, but apparently not as the concierge called us on Wednesday to ask if we were ready to switch rooms the next day. We explained we had already resolved this and he confirmed we did. On Thursday night we were coming back to the room and our key cards didn't work! We had to go to the front desk for new ones, which was more annoying than anything, but quickly resolved. Room service was convenient, and the menu expansive. Felt like they had something for everyone. Beach was beautiful and they tried to keep up with the seaweed, and did a great job for most part. Drinks weren't particularly strong, but if you have enough of them, you will certainly feel it. We would come back and stay with them here, or at another Secrets resort if it is anything like this one. read more

Dear Joey,…
This place was awesome! I came here for a company retreat for 3 days and there isn't a bad thing I can say about it. The rooms are spectacular, it's all inclusive with 24/7 room service. The staff is friendly accommodating and outgoing. They clean your room nicely and it's very secure. They have tons of pools and even a sports bar hut. They have 7 different restaurants at the resort and the hibachi is a standout as well as the seafood. The main pool has a swim up bar which is fun, the beach is very nice and we all know it takes a day or two to learn the grounds and find your way around but I would say that there could be some more signs to direct you where to go but by the second day I was surely able to figure it out. They have grass tennis courts, volleyball and activities going all day. You hardly ever do not have a drink and there is always someone asking to help. The concierge in each building is very helpful and goes out of his way. Tipping goes a long way when you are needing something urgent at a crowded bar or some tables put together so I always carried around some greenbacks to get what I want when I want. I would like to start this review off saying, I am a travel agent and I have spent time in villages of third world countries and am very aware of precautions to take to not contract bacteria from food or water. We are also Unlimited Vacation Club Members and this is the 3rd Secrets we have visited. Both my husband and I got salmonella from this resort. As well as other guests we spoke to in the lobby while checking out, all with the same symptoms. We were there for 8 days total, my husband got sick on day 5 and I got sick on day 7. He saw the resort doctor on Wednesday evening and we spent $400 on getting random medications and for the visit. When we got back home we both ended up in the ER, where they stated the medications that doctor gave him weren't helpful and to stop taking them, leading to a $20,000 ER bill for both of us. I tried to call the resort three days after we got home to tell them our diagnosis so they could try and figure out how we got sick on their property and the operator couldn't care less. I asked to speak to a manager after explaining what happened and she just said "why." After I pushed she finally said someone would call me back and it's been three weeks with no return call. Resort Grounds- This resort is huge and very green. It has beautiful picture spots and you really feel like you're on a tropical island. The iguanas are all over the resort which is also really cool. It is hard to navigate if your direction stupid like me, but there are a few maps on the grounds. Food- I had a harder time finding food to eat here than the other Secrets. I have a very specific diet and they always made me feel bad when I asked to modify something or take something off a dish. They are also VERY strict about the dress code for men, all men must wear long pants to dine inside for dinner. Hotel rooms- The rooms were nice and large. We had a swim out and it could have been better kept up with but it was under trees so we understood there was only so much that could be done. We had a hard time with timing of the housekeeping services. They would always come right when we were getting ready for dinner so most nights we didn't get turndown service. Staff- The staff was very friendly, they almost always said hi whenever we walked by. Sommelier Paula was fantastic. She went above and beyond. Spa-Both times we went in there were lots of people waiting to be taken back to their appointment. When I went in for my appointment, I was take back 10 minutes after my appointment for a 50 minutes facial. My facial ended 7 minutes early, so I was only given a 30 minute facial after you account for getting settled in the room. There was no neck or shoulder massage like at other Pernovia Secrets spas. There was also no after care information given, I.e. stay out of the sun, drink lots of water. When I let them know if the missing time I paid for, they said they could give me another facial later that day, which tells me that the treatment they did really didn't mean/do anything if they would give me another so soon. Pool- We spent most of our time as the quiet pool, which was very nice. There were always chairs available and someone walking around to take food and drink orders. The sports bar was also nice and we liked that it was right by the bar. There isn't much shade while in the pool but there were lots of different elevations in the pool for sitting and lounging. There were also large blue floats just in the pool for people to use, which I've never seen at another Secrets, we always bring our own though. We will not be revisiting Secrets Akumal Rivera Maya again, nor will I be sending clients there, as we spent half of our vacation sick in bed and when trying to help prevent it for other guests the resort couldn't be bothered to call us back. read more
My wife and I tend to be busy bodies so we were looking for a relaxing vacation. Secrets really hit the spot. The place is beautiful and you see that right away as you walk into the lobby. You are greeted with cookies and champagne as well as the beautiful décor and friendly staff. We booked a preferred suite so we had to walk back to the preferred lounge to check in. It was very nice but the check in process took a little longer than I liked after traveling all the way there I just wanted to dump my bags off and get to dinner. They apparently do try to sell you on a time share and offer up Spa credits, we did not attend that meeting and did not use the spa. The spa prices are ridiculous. The preferred lounge was nice, the staff was excellent, Jesus remembered me each time and treated us very well. Made us feel very comfortable. The preferred lounge is a nice spot to hang out, play board games, eat appetizers and desserts and have a drink or just get out of the heat of the day. With purchasing the preferred lounge you can also eat breakfast at Seaside Café, though we loved the Market Café buffet so much we only ate at Seaside once. Overall I'd save the money on the preferred packaged, I'm not really sure I got anything out of it. Our room was very spacious and very comfortable. I loved the large shower with two heads, the Jacuzzi tub and soaking tub on the balcony. Housekeeping did a great job and they also had a tablet in the room with all the hotel info and room service that was very handy. My favorite part of the trip was the food, they have several restaurants, more than we could try, all different themes. They also almost every night had entertainment and a buffet outside by the pool. I don't think I ate anything I didn't like. My biggest problem was trying not to eat everything. They really had a broad variety, truly something for everyone. They accommodated my wife's gluten intolerance very well. I really enjoyed the Coco Café that was open 24/7 to get coffee, snacks and other treats. There really is a lot to do in addition to just enjoying the beautiful beach and 3 pools. They have ping pong tables around, giant chess board set up and a daily activity/entertainment schedule to keep you active with aqua strong(Jessica did a great job instructing), yoga, volleyball, snorkeling, etc. My only compliant here is we had to do some digging to find out you could snorkel at other times for example and we had to keep inquiring to learn about additional activities. So if you are interested in something, make sure you ask and ask again as someone might not know and give you a wrong answer. We received a private Salsa lesson from Jessica who did a great job and we really appreciated it. Jessica was really helpful and a great part of the entertainment team. One major annoyance is people stake out their lounge chairs nice and early and so we tried and twice had ours swiped while we were out to breakfast. No gripe on the staff, just rude guests. The staff did a great job ensuring everyone was enjoying themselves. Our last night there they placed some rose petals in the room, a bubble bath and champagne with a brownie, very nice touch. I would definitely recommend staying here. Well worth the money. read more

We had a group of 28 that attended my brothers wedding at Secrets Akumal. Since they announced their wedding over a year ago, we have been researching and anticipating this trip for a long time. Now that we have been here, this resort exceed our expectations. They receive a lot of accolades. Every one is truly deserved. My Concierge was Mafer ( Maria Fernanda) She was just incredible. Very helpful and pleasant. It was such a treat dealing with her. My room ( that she helped arrange) was just spectacular. It was room 4401. I know that some people say "Im not in the room much so Im not concerned with the views, etc." Well, I do prefer a nice room / view and this one was fantastic. Great view of the ocean and the pools and foliage. Thank you again, Mafer, for everything you did during our stay. Restaurants were great. We loved Portofino, Bordeaux, SeaSide for lunch, Himitsu....What we DIDNT plan for was the many times that they set up for food at the pool. Either during the day with special items. or during the outdoor dinner shows. Once again, the staff was incredible in Food and Beverage outlets. Remembering us by name and even our previous food choices ( Seriously?? Who does that?? Just amazing) We were Preferred and we loved the preferred Club. We went there often for Special upgraded cocktails and finger foods. Marina was the incredible server there ( Mezcal!!) and Emiliano was also a fantastic preferred club representative. If you are thinking about getting a Bali Bed... Let me help you with that. Get it. Just get it. They were awesome. Its just great to have a designated place on the beach with incredible servers taking care of you. Henry and Jonas were here and they did a great job. We attended my brothers wedding and it was absolutely FLAWLESS. The Wedding department did a great, great job with everything. The resort is very safe ( We never had any issues regarding security or anything) They are very Covid compliant and even the testing portion at the end was done efficiently. We all were wondering on the way back when we could return to Secrets Akumal. Trust me, it will be very soon. Thank you, Secrets, for an incredible vacation. read more

Me and my friends just stayed at this resort and found it very disappointing... We've all travelled to Mexico and stayed at all inclusive resorts before and this is by far the worse one yet. We booked this resort because of the good reviews we've read online... Oh boy were we wrong. 1) Due to Covid-19 hygiene is a big must for us... We were trying to wrap our head around how at the Buffet we were required to wear gloves to get our food and how the workers didn't need to wear gloves cooking and also handling the food they were serving us... One of the staff was making waffles, crepes and also French toast and instead of using tongs to place the food in the tray she used her barehands to place them out to serve the guest. Many of the staff were doing the same as well except they were cooking at the omelet and other stations. 2) Some of the staffs here were very polite but some were plain rude... At one of the restaurants we dined at the waiter kept on asking us if we were Chinese... We looked at him and kindly responded no... however he kept on insisting that we were and kept asking us really rude questions. We ended just leaving the restaurant and going to another location to dine. 3) During our Covid-19 test the guy doing the Covid-19 nose swab didn't change his gloves or wipe down the seat for the next person. We had asked him if he could change his gloves before performing the test on us and he just looked at us confused. Overall I feel like our experience here wasn't that great even though this resort has great ratings... The restaurant's food was very mediocre. Some of the food selections were really a hit or miss... The resort is nice but the overall experience with some of the staff members here didn't really make us feel comfortable. It's sad to say it but we felt like our ethnicity was the reason why we got this type of treatment... read more

I would never stay here again. Everything closes down early and it's not even a COVID thing. Every night they had a full house of guests that didn't want the night to end but they shut everything down anyway. I've never seen anything like it in the Cancun area. If you like to do nothing all day and go to bed at 9/10pm then you might enjoy staying here. If you want to have fun and actually have activities to choose from, you can find something better and CHEAPER! I don't see the value in the cost of staying here when you get very little in return. The food is basic, the drinks are watered down, the ocean has a lot of seaweed. What's the point of paying the high cost to be here when it's WORSE than other, less expensive, resorts? I will say that the staff here is really nice and I have no complaints about the service (except for the inefficiency of the front desk-- no one is cross trained so you wait for people to answer really basic questions that anyone should be able to answer). read more

This is a beautiful resort. Great service, pretty good food, nice beach, great rooms and very good shows. The only problem we had was with the wine. They only have one type of white wine that is available in the all inclusive package. It's disgusting. So, since I couldn't drink it, i decided I will just buy a bottle of wine for us every night. The problem is they didn't have any wine for less than $100/bottle. La Crema, which is around $20 the US was selling for $129. I checked out today and my bill was $1000 just in wine. I am convinced they provide awful wine on purpose. They are constantly pushing you to buy bottles if you want a nice table or a special dinner. If you don't drink wine, then this is the place for you! If you do, be prepared to stop at a store and stock up on wine on the way from the airport. read more
Beautiful resort, great service (except for one day), clean and great staff. Our concierge guy, Victor, was super nice and helpful and went above and beyond to help us with everything. Our suite was ocean view in building 1 third floor. We got charged $750 for the upgrade from tropical view to this one. The person by the name of Antonio who was checking us in spoke multiple times with his manager and she said she's giving us the best deal which she charged us $150/night instead of $280/night (I don't know how true that was but since we wanted ocean view we took it). With this room, since it was considered a VIP room, we had access to member only lounge which was basically nothing with very minimal service. Our balcony jacuzzi wasn't draining and rusty water was coming out so we called them and they came and tried to fix it but didn't get fixed, on the second call they acknowledged they have plumbing issue and offered to credit us $300 for 2 nights of upgrade. We didn't get to use the jacuzzi at all but after many back and forths they agreed to refund $375 and asked me to sing 3 documents so we won't claim anything after we left. The day before we left we called concierge twice asking for bed sheets cause we were using it to cover the furniture and we didn't get them for about 3 hours until I saw the room service person and I asked them to give me 2 bed sheets. Their furnitures were made out of plastic and smelled terrible so I was using sheets to cover them. I honestly don't know if there was an issue or it was the plastic smelling so bad but it was terrible and your clothes would smell too if you sat on them. Our view was amazing. We had house keeping twice, in the morning and at night. They were all super nice and friendly and would do anything to help. We also tipped every single person who literally knocked on our door or did something for us so that kinda helped too. Food was great too except one time we had lunch at Oceana which was not the best. Breakfast was great cause you had 100s of options. Another thing that was scary was seeing a snake while having lunch at Oceana. The snake was very big and went in the bushes right behind someone's bed by the pool. After I called them many times someone showed up 20 mins later and tried to find the snake but I think it was gone. I understand there is jungle next to us but there was no signs telling guests about snakes. They had signs for iguanas and other animals but no snakes. read more

One of the worst experiences in coming in to a secrets resort: My cousins, his wife, my wife and I , decided to try a new secrets resort, we thought we would have the same experience secrets los Cabo's has given us all the times we come down(about 6 times ) so we started with: -My cousin is a preferred membership holder, yet, no free upgrade, -The person at checking was horrible and just kept getting up and asking questions to her manager in the office . At that point I was wondering why is she have if so many questions, she had no answers, yet the manager did nothing to come out and helped the situation . So, we decided to make the best of the whole thing, so we are here to celebrate my cousins wife bday, so: -we try to get upgrade to a swim up- NO GO -we try to reserve a private dinner- NO GO -we try to reserve a cabana on the beach for her bday-NO GO So even tho we the squeezed out more money out of us to upgrade rooms, they won't be ready for a few days.... Over all, no one is here to make things smooth, no one is to do anything about our discord.. we will be trying in the morning to call los cabos to see if they can accommodate us, (I am sure they will as we have become friends with one of the managers) We will no be returning to this secrets and will warn you, they will try to squeeze more money out of you any way they can .... I'm so in love with this all inclusive resort that I'm trying to figure out when we can go back. My husband and I went for our honeymoon and it was amazing. The staff was so welcoming and pleasant throughout our stay. The room was beyond what we expected. Granted we did get upgraded in location due to the low occupancy rates they were taking due to the pandemic. Speaking of, everyone was taking every precaution throughout to include daily temperature checks, hand sanitizer all throughout the resort, etc. The food was so good and loved trying the multitude of restaurants there. The swim out suite was so sweeet! Yes we went to the regular pools but having a pool right outside your room was a definite perk that will be hard to say no to if...wait...when we return. This made me want to check out other Secrets resorts but I definitely hope to be back to this Akumal location in the future! read more

My husband and I went to this resort in October with another couple and had an amazing experience. We weren't sure what to expect with covid and we're hesitant to book, but I am so glad we did! They did a great job following covid protocols and making the guests feel safe. They sanitized our bags upon arrival and checked temperatures and had us fill out a questionnaire. The staff was above and beyond. So friendly and accommodating. The resort is beautiful, great restaurants, beautiful beach, and very nice clean rooms. There were plenty of activities throughout the day, but also an opportunity to go to a quieter area to just relax. We took advantage of the snorkeling and paddle boarding. We brought our own pool floats which was nice to have. I would definitely recommend this resort. read more

The staff were so great and everyone was friendly and helpful. Truly they wanted you to have a great experience. Now onto the real reason for this review. Marco! Where to begin???? EVERYTHING about this resort has been amazing!!! We came for a corporate reward trip and ended up staying 3 more days!!! The food is amazing! The rooms are beautiful! And everyone is SO nice. To begin with, Edain, our group coordinator, is the sweetest and most efficient man! He met every need and then some. Everyone in our group of 80 wants to put Secrets Akumal in the rotation for reward trips and THAT'S a first! We have never had all our prize winners want to return to the same location!! Second, Karen, our concierge, was delightful! She was always there to welcome us to our day and answer any questions. I have to mention Alan, concierge for building 2 (we were in building 4!) cheered me on every day when I took my laps around the building. He would tell me with each lap to "keep going". He wasn't even our concierge!!! The pool...Daniel (Danny) welcomed us every day at the pool with a smile and willingness to make our day at the pool a great one! He cooled us off mid day with the best smelling cold towel too! We loved Israel (I called him "speedy"!) as our pool server. Again, we had a large group and he kept up with our request. Now...for my heart reward...Ruben, the Barefoot Grill Chef! Not only is he the sweetest guy, he's an amazing chef! And special requests??? Ruben is your man! Pool bar...Alejandro was my favorite! He always had a smile on his face that just made my day!!!Restaurants...Portifino was our first night's meal and we ended up returning. More for our server, Raul! The food was great and he was on point with his suggestions, but what a great man Raul is!!!!! Hilda, the hostess at Portifino was so sweet too! Our breakfast servers Mauricio and Ramundo were very attentive and the buffet was outstanding!! Over all, I can't give this place enough stars!!! We DEFINITELY will come back HOME and are even considering a membership! read more

We arrived late on the evening of Tuesday, August 11th, not knowing how the check-in process would go, we entered the hotel going down a long hallway to the main reception area. Upon walking down the hall, they ask you to stop so the machine can take your temperature, and they provide you with wipes and hand sanitizer upon arrival. The check-in process was quick and easy, signed a few forms than was led to our room, a swim-up suite at building six. The room opens up to a long private pool, surrounded by jungle and other swim-up suites. We were fortunate that no one ever used there swim-up while we were there, so we had our own private pool. At the central lobby bar, Rendezvous was the hip bar due to the club and Barracuda beach bar being closed sadly. We received excellent service from Jesus; he was great. He remembered us throughout the week as we came to the main lobby bar and knew what drinks we were having. For one of our breakfasts, we went to the Seaside grill and restaurant, and they do a great job of providing the guest with hand sanitizer upon being sat, everyone does a beautiful job of keeping the place clean. Alejandro served us breakfast. He was fantastic even with social distancing and limited staff; he was able to keep everyone happy. For dinner, we also visited the Seaside grill and restaurant. It is a steak restaurant for dinner, which we love. Alberto assisted us. He was so generous to provide us with the suggestions of our dinner we ordered appetizers and the cowboy steak to share. He recommended the pasta, which was divine. For a few breakfasts, we dined at the Market cafe terrace, which is the buffet our server both times was Berlin, the meal has fresh omelet stations, tacos, waffles, and several other items to choose. Of course, with being preferred, we had access to the preferred club via the room card, which inside they would check-in guests and also provide a small sneak or mini appetizers and beverages to there guest. The Italian restaurant Portofino was delicious; we had many courses with appetizers main meal and dessert, and my favorite tiramisu. My other favorite it was Himitsu the Asian restaurant, you can book the hibachi grill with the show or just first come first serve for sushi dinner. We just had dinner because we enjoy sushi and lots of it. Our server at Himitsu was David; I'm sure by the end, he thought we were fat since we ordered ten plus rolls, appetizer, and a main course. Of course, we enjoyed the pools, and they have three pools, the main pool, the infinity pool, and the lagoon pool. When we experienced the lagoon pool, we had our own private pool. No one was there due to the sports bar not being open. However, you still get a drink service, so if you are looking for a quiet relaxing pool, the lagoon pool is the place to visit. read more

I felt like I had died and gone to heaven here. The rooms, facilities and food are AMAZING!!! We had a partial ocean view room that was HUGE. There was a nice hot tub, two sinks, king size bed and a large patio. The decore was posh. The pools and resort grounds are beautiful. The pool by the ocean has a swim up bar! And the beach has decent snorkeling. We saw sea turtles and sting rays. Our favorite cuisine was the French restaurant which had lobster and escargot. I also loved the breakfast buffet with the crepe and omelette station. The nighttime entertainment shows we saw were similar to cirque de soleil and the night club is pretty fun with a big group. We were here for a destination wedding which was really amazing, fun and well done. Since it was in September we got a great deal through booking.com for our room. I felt like I was in paradise here and don't see how anyone can write a bad review for this place. This is one of the nicest and best all inclusive resorts in Mexico. First class all the way. read more

Dear Camille L.,…
Let me let you in on a little secret... There's this incredible resort down in Riveria Maya, about 1.5 hours south of Cancun. It's all you can eat, all you can drink, and all you can relax. It's called Secrets Resort Akumal, and it's adults only (no screaming kids!) and it's a real gem. First Impressions: Beautiful grounds. The upkeep of this place is incredible. When you're not walking right along one of Cancun's nicest beaches (at least according to a billboard we saw advertised by National Geographic!), you're strolling through the peaceful jungles of the resort grounds. Room: The boyfriend and I stayed in a "junior suite tropical view." Pleasantly to our surprise, there was a hot tub and our own balcony which overlooked the jungle AND the beach! The interior of the room was comparable to a 4 star hotel. Everything was spotless, the decor was very modern but also had that beach-y resort feel without the wicker furniture. And did I mention we got our own hot tub?? Prettttty neat. For a larger fee, you can opt for their "swim out" room where you're connected to what looks like a large man made lazy river and can literally swim out from your room. It looked cool but not worth it to me. Food: There are multiple dining establishments at this resort: - Market Cafe (Buffet): this was only open for breakfast and lunch during our stay (I noticed that during some weeks, they are open for dinner). The breakfast was fantastic (omelet stations, tamales, tacos, any type of bread or Mexican sweet bread your heart desires), sausages and bacon, make your own smoothie stations, waffles, crepes, deliciously sweet fruit!) The lunch was really good as well (more tacos, build your own pizza, make your own pasta, ribs, enchiladas, deli meat, fresh raw fish!) - Portofino: this is their take on Italian food, and it was pretty good! The calamari was crispy and had a great flavor. The octopus salad was different and refreshing, basically an octopus ceviche. The salmon ravioli was okay, it came with a heavy white cream sauce. The rustic pizza wasn't bad but be warned if you're not a blue cheese fan. - Seaside Grill: this place is located right outside near the pool area and serves food all throughout the day. We came for dinner one night (our 3rd dinner of the night because - all inclusive) and found out that they turn into a steakhouse at night. The filet I got was pretty good but I was too full by the third dinner to enjoy much. - Barefoot Grill: this bar doubles up as a quasi fast food joint that churns out burgers, fajitas, fries, and chips and guacamole. While on the beach, you can enjoy some crunchy and delicious fries and all the guacamole you can eat! - Bordeaux: this French restaurant is a miss for me. I ordered the Oyster Rockefeller and it definitely fell short. It didn't taste nearly as good as what I've had in Houston or Nola. I also ordered a duck entree which used a mustard based sauce that I didn't favor (to be fair, it was my fault that I don't like mustard but tried this anyways). - Himitsu: this Asian restaurant is the best one yet. We came for the hibachi show one night (make reservations right when you arrive!! They only have limited time and tables.) and the food and show were good and entertaining. We came back on our last night for dinner and no show and man, I wish we came here sooner. The soft shell crab salad was incredible. The ramen was light and had good flavor. The cold soba noodles were delicious. And the pad Thai was mouth watering good. My favorite part though? The tempura fried ice cream. Best dessert I've ever had. - Coco's Cafe: a small cafe that serves little sandwich snacks and desserts. The desserts were okay. Get the almond croissant! - Some days/nights they have poolside or outside lunches and dinners. We caught a Mexican dinner night and the churros were muy bien! Activities: The beach was beautiful. Known as the "secrets of turtles" resort, there were definitely turtles to be seen while snorkeling! The resort offers many free activities, including biking around the resort area, paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking, guacamole classes, water aerobic biking exercises, different shows each night (aerobatics, movies, comedy) and dance lessons. You really really can't get bored here - but if you don't want to do any activities, you can sit by the beach. All. Day. With all the food and drink you ever wished for in life. Staff: The staff were all SO helpful and kind. Not a single complaint about any one of them. They were all more than willingly to help. Overall, this resort is very high on my recommendation list. If you and your spouse are looking for a getaway from the adult world, this is the place you want to be. read more

This is a decent resort with great service. There are many bars and restaurants all around the resort. They have events every single day, such as cirque de Soleil, dinner parties, shows major sporting events on projector, etc. Some pros about the resort... - 24 hour room service - 24 hour cafe (Drinks and sandwiches) - Bars all around the resort - Various types of restaurants Some cons - Much of the food is underwhelming - There was tons of seaweed all over the beach (Workers were cleaning it up, but there was tons!!). - Room service takes approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour. - Our mini fridge was warm. Overall great accommodations, but for approximately $4-500 a night, not sure if this is justified. read more

had to take a moment to recognize the incredible team that made our stay at Secrets Akumal truly unforgettable. My name is Regina, and I visited as part of the Bundle Birth nurses group--and from the very beginning, the experience was beyond anything I expected. From the moment we arrived at the airport, the staff waiting for us set the tone. They were warm, organized, and genuinely happy to welcome us. After traveling, that kind of energy makes all the difference. Check-in was seamless, and being greeted with cold water and refreshing towels was such a thoughtful touch. Our luggage was handled effortlessly, and we were guided to our rooms with care and professionalism. A very special thank you to Jose, our concierge in Building 9. He truly elevated our entire stay. Every single day he greeted us with a smile, checked in to make sure we had everything we needed, and gave us great guidance to explore the resort. His kindness and attention to detail did not go unnoticed. Alan and Oscar from the turtle excursion were absolutely amazing. For many of us, it was our first time doing something like that, and they made us feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. Keeping the groups small made the experience feel personal and special. Mario and Oscar, who led activities like water polo and salsa dancing, brought so much life and connection to the resort. They created such a fun and inclusive atmosphere--it really helped people come together. Honestly, the only thing I'd suggest is making these activities longer because everyone was having such a great time! The shows and events were phenomenal, and the food across the resort was truly 10/10--authentic, delicious, and consistent everywhere we went. At Coco Café, Liliana (working the night shift) stood out for her exceptional service. She remembered names, greeted us warmly every time, and made each visit feel personal. And Mario Castillos at the bar was consistently friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Every single staff member we encountered contributed to making this experience so special. I've never stayed at a hotel where the team is this genuinely kind, attentive, and dedicated. Thank you all at Secrets Akumal for making our trip so memorable--you truly made us feel at home. --Regina, Bundle Birth Nurses Group read more

This resort is very nice. However, there's a few things that people should know before coming here. Everyone's experience is different and I get that but I'm only speaking for LGBT AND BLACK. Now there were some great waiters and concierge workers that were 10/10 for what we needed. The culture here was a bit off sometimes. Certain bars would skip over me and focus on the other races specifically white and Spanish straight people. As far as the other guest, now there's a lot of older white people at this resort so they only really talk to each other so we felt alienated at the pools. The black straight people all seem to be in competition so they don't talk to each other nor do they loosen up to have a good time. You will see most of the straight black people only being friendly to white people. It's just weird. If you want to come and just stay to yourself and enjoy with your partner it can still be enjoyable. My partner and I have been to 8 resorts. Our recommendation is SECRETS PUERTO VALLARTA for lgbt family. Theres an entire gay strip in town and the resort is super lgbt friendly and guest are all chill and welcoming. Overall the food and atmosphere here is 6/10. Lastly, There's animals like cats and raccoons that will come out. read more

Hands down this resort and vacation overall was the best I have ever been on. From the service we received to the overall location and tropical feel, it was amazing. Our beloved travel agent, Julie with Postcard Getaways, recommended Secrets Akumal after we gave her some basic ideas of what we were looking for. This place far exceeded our expectations. Felipe at the pool was the most sincere and attentive server I have ever encountered. Guadeloupe our housekeeper always had our room serviced, bed turned down & minibar filled with cold beverages when we returned to our suite after a long day of fun activities, dinner shows or simply Sun by the pool. The beach was gorgeous. We cannot wait to return. read more

My stay at Secrets Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa was absolutely unforgettable! The soft, sandy beach was like a dream, making every moment spent by the ocean magical. We stayed in Building Five in the Preferred Club, and the service we received was beyond incredible. The staff went above and beyond to cater to our every need, ensuring our experience was seamless and luxurious. From the attentive service to the beautiful surroundings, this resort exceeded all expectations. If you're looking for a perfect getaway, this is the place to be! read more
