I was so excited to come here and get my hair done by Joanna Pinedo 'Balayage fairy". I waited three months for the appointment, my appointment was at 11AM I arrived at 11:06 AM. It's a Wednesday morning so I still receive calls intermittently as I work in the behavioral health and addiction field helping those in need. I had a call when I arrived and I quickly got off. Joanna didn't introduce herself, she didn't ask me how I was, she immediately said "when is the last time you washed your hair" with the most disgusting look on her face like I wasn't worthy of her time. I told her I believe I washed it on Monday. (Typically I've never been asked to have my hair washed before the appointments when doing color). She walked away, and returned and told said "so you were already 7 minutes late, I have a policy of no more then 10 minutes late. Your hair is dirty, I do a full consult with my clients and you took a call. I don't have your undivided attention and I don't think I'm going to be a good fit, unless you can make this a priority so I am going to ask you to leave and I have your deposit if you decide to rebook when my booking opens in July." She was so unkind, not professional, and acted like I was a nobody and that I didn't matter or have feelings. I started crying as the receptionist standing there was looking at me seeming to feel uncomfortable with how Joanna spoke to me. I've been getting my hair done for a long time by multiple artist throughout my 37 years of life in Los Angeles some very high end and very expensive and I've never one time had someone dismiss me and make me feel like I was nothing. I walked out of the salon in tears and sat there crying trying to collect my thoughts. Kindness goes such a long way, I wouldn't wish anyone meeting her even if they were my worst enemy. Hair is a form of art yes but so is kindness and hospitality. I would rather get my hair done by someone with no experience who does a poor job than someone who may be great but treats people so disrespectfully. I encourage anyone reading this to please avoid going to her whether she is good or not, she does not deserve your time. She is ungrateful to be booked the way she is and it has made her a terrible human. read more

I walked in the shop a few weeks ago with horrible, long, dry white hair. After Nadine went to work on me, I emerged looking Gorgeous, with Grey short hair. Nadine is a Genius! She now is my Beautician. It is easy to park there, is handicapped accessible and takes credit card, checks and cash. They also have a Spa which I will be checking out soon! read more

There's a manicurist named Mindi at Secrets Salon. She put gels on my fingers and toes and they chipped the same week I got them done and they peeled off right after I took a shower. Gel nails especially on the toes close to never chip..I mean 99% of the time ..that's why we all do gel in the first place right??? It's ridiculous! But, when you confront Mindi she says "oh well it happens " No Mindi it doesn't happen only with you!!!And so, if you're gonna spend $40-$50 on your nails, you want to avoid Mindi at this salon. I think her gel polish is old and she doesn't want to spend the money on new quality gel polish. Save your money and do not go to Mindi! Additionally, there's always cuticle and nail clippings from the person before me or the two people before me all over the chairs, chair handles and all over the floor and it's disgusting .. and if the health department saw that they would probably close her down and, her work and gels are substandard ..just pass on this one! Not worth the time or $$$!! Note: I respect manicurists that stand behind their work and Mindi does not. Remember, there are thousands of manicurist and pedicurists. You don't have to go to this one. Fortunately, they are a dime a dozen and you need to keep looking because Mindi's gels are inadequate and her work is poor, shoddy and second rate! read more

I went in for microblading. While waiting, I was speaking with my friend in the waiting area outside the restroom. A young woman came out and shushed us. It was not a constant stream of conversation, just comments to each other every few minutes. There are limited places to sit while waiting for the services in the spa area. If this person had been the least bit professional, I don't mind being told to not speak in a "quiet" area, but scolding is another matter. Is it just this employee with poor people skills? No. On arriving there were two people at reception, a male and female. They continued their personal conversation while we stood there. No acknowledgment, no greeting. I interrupted, they looked at me like I had a problem. I have to go back for the touchup but I would avoid this place in the future. Greet everyone coming in the door like you're glad they chose to patronize your establishment. Do it with a smile. Simple, right? Called a few weeks later to make the follow up appointment, was equally unimpressed by their phone etiquette. I'm not calling your house, I'm calling a business. Maybe the owner should invest in a professional trainer. Obviously whatever "manners" they learned on the street or at home isn't quite covering the business aspect of communication. read more

This is specifically for Maria the Waxer they have in the side room. Today she turned me away, because I had seen her 2.5 years ago at her other location on Ventura. She currently is running a groupon that clearly says you cant see her if under 2 years. I drive all the way over here and she says for you it'll be 50 dollars and you can get your money back from Groupon because I've seen you before. Ok thanks but no thanks. She could have called me and saved me the trip. Her customer service skills need improvement she didn't even greet me before she turned me away. I scheduled appointment with Jacque, for hair color, hair cut and deep conditioning. This was my first time at this salon. I got the reservation for the same day, which was nice. I reached on time at my scheduled time, and I waited for half an hour and after which my treatment started. Jacque was nice to me, she gave me good suggestions for my hair color that will match with skin tone. She did an amazing job and gave me a nice color and cut. I liked everything, but the only thing that I didn't like was the time that it took for doing everything from color to cut my hair. I went at 2:30 pm and and got free after everything at 5:45 pm. My only concern was when I scheduled my appointment beforehand then why did she take other clients during my appointment. I've been coming to this salon for a few years. When I first came in I felt like it was a bit dark and felt a bit of a trapped feeling. I'm happy to say there have been some recent renovations. The place completely changed it is now light with brighter colors and feels more open. Totally has made a positive difference. Now the reason for the five stars is for my hair stylist. She has been doing my hair for years. Rocio. She is the only one that has been able to achieve success with my hair. I have stubborn grays, shh did I say that out loud? They resist coverage and since I love reds it's almost impossible to cover. Yet Rocio has been able to give me a great color and style every time. My recent move to Florida had me in shambles. I missed her working on my hair. I even would schedule appointments when flying in to Los Angeles straight from the runway. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I went in for a blonde/brown dye job and walked out a reddish blonde. Melissa did the job and explained it was a process. Melissa was fine and tried to handle the situation professionally. When I went back to question my hair dye job, the front desk lady, Linda, was the rudest women I have come across. She is not even a hair stylist but tried telling me that she knew what went on with my hair. She then proceeded to go outside, call the owner, and call me a bitch loud and clear on the phone. When my friend confronted Linda, Melissa let us talk to the owner who was on the phone. The owner just started raising her voice at me and scolding me. She kept expressing how Melissa spent 3 hours on my hair and that meant a lot. Okay, yes she spent about 3 hours but QUALITY over TIME. Melissa is probably a great hair stylist but just could not accomplish what I desired. I understand that dying my hair darker is a "process" but that did not mean that I had to walk out being a redhead. Other than being a redhead, there were blotches of different shades of color all over my hair, resembling a bad ombre job. It was very rude how all the owner and Linda right off the bat said "you just want your money back"/"you just want a free hair job"...ummm not really. I have plenty of money, thanks. I just wanted to let you all know how messed up my hair was. They also offered to add more streaks to my hair for free. That was nice, but why would i add more fuel to the flame? It's funny because when they said "oh we were going to add more streaks. That's what we told you," I responded "More streaks to my entire head because everything is red?" and they just stared blankly. The owner already had a preconceived image of me being a rude person from the lies Linda told her. I find it funny how the owner had the decency to tell me that everyone complimented my hair job coming out of the shop when it was wet and no one could even see the dye job. Once again...rumors. Save the gossip for high school. Thought we were older than that. The owner barely let me get a word in edgewise. She was so fueled over the lies that she would not stop yelling in my ear...so I ended the phone call. Hahaha. No time for that negativity. I wasn't having that. I may agree that my hair attracted attention...but not the good kind! Obviously they can't take constructive criticism well. :P Haha. It is so interesting how a business run by young, unprofessional people could stay in business. I'm pretty sure the owner will respond to this trying to talk negatively about me and saying they tried to reconcile differences, but just know they're money hungry. Moral of story, if you would like to go redhead with spots or look like a cabbage patch doll, go here! :) I'm going to pray for Linda that she is blessed with a better attitude and finds happiness in life. This place is a trip. I've never actually gone to a "fancy" hair salon before, so I felt like a fish out of water. I got this groupon for a deep conditioning treatment, cut, and style so I thought hey why not try another place and see if I get a "perfect" cut for once. I've had pretty good ones, but there was always something that bugged me. I got Carla and she did a fantastic job and I couldn't be happier. The hair cut alone makes me want to go back, because the atmosphere was a little much for me. She lets you know what your skin needs and what treatments she is doing. I've been coming to secret salon more than a handful of time and Angela has always done my hair to my liking. But when shewas out for months and I wanted to get my hair done I went to a different hairdresser. My three star review is based on this specific hairdresser. When I called in and asked for a quote to get highlights the owner gave me the same quote I was paying before and gave me an appt with a different hairdresser. The hairdresser I was paired with was very nice and accommodating but after I came in and got my highlights done she charged $20 more than I was quoted by the owner! She explained that she had to use toner. I didn't make a big deal about it and just paid and gave her a decent tip. But that's a BS excuse to charge me extra bc we all know you have to use a toner after bleaching your hair. It's included in the price and I was always charged the same price after highlighting my hair with a toner. Some of you guys might say she probably charges more bc of her talent But take a look at my pic. I had to go somewhere else and pay more just to fix it. read more

My fiance went into Secrets Salon to look for a stylist for our wedding. The plan was to get her hair cut and colored as a trial run. If things went well, we were going to give the salon the opportunity to style all of the bridesmaids' hair. So after meeting with Rocio or "Ro", my fiance scheduled an appointment for a date that worked for them both, and "Juan," one of Ro's two assistants, wrote it in the book. The day before her appointment, Kimmy from Secrets called my fiance and confirmed it was for the following day, with Ro, at 10:00am. My fiance arrived at 10:00 am and no one knew where Ro was. No one offered to call Ro, and it seemed, no one cared. If anyone has ever planned for a wedding, they would know how stressful it can be. When my fiance got home she was very upset, so I called the salon on her behalf (She shouldn't have to deal with such nonsense) and I asked if Ro had arrived (this was 40 minutes later) and sure enough, she finally had. When Ro got on the phone I asked her what happened. She explained that my fiance's appointment was written down on the wrong date. (?) Now, how could that be when Kimmy called and confirmed the appointment? What I would really like to know is why Ro didn't immediately call to apologize for the mix-up? I know the salon has our number SINCE THEY CALLED TO CONFIRM THE APPOINTMENT. So either someone is lying or someone screwed up but won't admit it. And WE had to call THEM for an explanation and an "apology." And you would think, in the interest of customer service, Ro might have offered some solution... either to try and have her come in later the same day or whatever - but no. Nothing but excuses.. And you know if my fiance had made the mistake the salon would've charged her! Unbelievable. Two assistants. TWO assistants and they still couldn't get things right. Wow. It's one thing to make a mistake, but to then not even call to apologize is unacceptable - at least, in the professional world. read more

What impressed me most is the size of the place, but it's ability to still appear intimate and personal. Are their cheaper salons in the valley, sure.
