If you have Asian hair (ok, if you are Asian) you will find the services here reasonably priced with stylists who do seem to understand how to cut hair. I will agree with others that the language barrier may put off some people but the pictures will help tremendously. They cut my son's hair as well (he is 11) but he came out with something of a bowl cut after a lot of careful cutting. Oh well. Nonetheless, for adult women's haircut, $45 is fabulous price. I believed the lady who was cutting my hair her name is Karen, she's actually friendly and the haircut didn't come out too bad. But it was my first time here and it's gonna be my last time too. Here are the reasons why: 1. They don't really speak English and I do not speak Korean so communication is just painful and I should've known better and walk out at the very beginning. 2. The lady who was cutting my hair has this very dangerous way of handling her really sharp scissors like almost Edward Scissorhands and almost poke my in the eyes with it which I never experience before from getting a haircut. 3. She took the brushes from this drawer that labeled " SOILED" and the brushes are clearly dirty with lots of hairs on them, and I asked her doesn't that mean they are dirty and can she not use those on my hair. And she told me "oh it's ok" and kept using the brush on me and I am not sure if she just had no idea what I was telling her or she just has really low standard when it comes to being clean. 4. The floor has lots of hair all over before they start cutting my hair, and there are gunk in the corner of the cabinets that I am not sure what they are. 5. Again, due to the language issue, she kept cutting my hair shorter and shorter when I told her "too short", and she said "more shorter?" and cut it even more until I have to physically put my hand on my head so she can't keep cutting them. I am the type of girl that actually is not too anal about my hair otherwise I would probably get really upset. I went in there with my hair length half way in my back thinking trimming it like 2 or 3 inches, and I came out with a classic bob that's above my shoulder. I don't think it looks bad but it was not what I was looking for and I actually showed her multiple pictures before we started which is well below the shoulder. So, based on the points above, especially with the dirty brush that clearly labeled SOILED on my hair and the sake of my vision, I am definitely not gonna go back. p.s. I've been a regular customer here for 3 years now. I've tried so many hair dressers, but I'm glad to say I've found her. Hae Sue takes care of my hair and has never disappoints me. She knows what I want and if I ask her opinion, she gives the most honest answer. She's so knowledgable, bubbly and very hospitable. I definitely recommend her. As soon as you enter, you will notice how bright, clean and relaxing the salon is. You will also be greeted, not just by Hae Sue (if in case you chose her) but by everyone. You will be asked to changed into their robe to avoid messing with your shirt but you don't have to if you feel uncomfortable. Right after, someone will opt to shampoo your hair. And if only God would let me know what shampoo and conditioner they use....it makes my hair super soft, voluminous and not oily. All these are only for $35. The price is very cheap considering how nice the treatment this place gives to their clients. However, they could get really busy which could affect their service. I would encourage people to set up an appointment and get it done in the morning. Parking could be a little difficult, especially in the afternoon. I mean, there were other issues there (seriously, longest awkward stage ever), but just saying, Lee Ka Ja would take up a good portion of my personal makeover special. I make sure to go to Jae-In (pronounced close to "Jane"), the owner. She's awesome - I don't really ever know what all to do with my hairstyle, and I usually just tell her to do her thing and I've never been displeased. She also takes a lot of pride in what she does, and that's always great to see. I've gotten everything done here - cuts, perms, color, the whole thing - and always been happy. Jae-In's also really great about the emergency bang trim, which she refuses to charge me for. Highly, highly recommend this place. Esther didn't speak good English but enough to communicate how I wanted to cut my hair.She would also suggest certain styles that would match the shape of my face.I don't know where she went but I definitely recommend Esther. Yay, i found a new stylish Karen. I used to go to Tokyo Hair on Chatsworth St, but John my stylist moved to Ktown. Karen was very helpful in giving advice on the hairstyle that would look best on me and she took her time cutting my hair. I went in on Wednesday at 6pm with no appointment and I did not have to wait. Wednesdays are generally the slowest day for a hair salon in my opinion. I was contemplating on giving it 4 stars because although Karen did a fabulous job on my hair, she was rushed during the last 5-10 minutes because the owner told her to help another walk-in customer. Not as edgy as I wanted it to be, but all in all.. my hair looks way better than it did before. I came back to work (i'm telling you.. i got this done on my lunch break. only had an hour. takes 15 minutes to drive there, another 15 to drive back) and i was already getting a lot of compliments on how it looked. I didn't get a haircut here, but I scheduled an appointment. My hair was long so I thought I'd find something closer to me to get a haircut. So I made an appointment. Then I went to the bank to get cash so I could pay. I showed up 10 minutes early, but they seemed busy so I went next door to Jamba. Then I came back, still early for my appointment. So I sat and waited. One girl came in and they started working on her right away. There was another guy waiting as well, who just seemd patient. 10 minutes after my appointment I just left... I hate it when people disrespect my time. I did all of these things to ensure I had an appointment setup and not have to wait 30 minutes so that I could get a quick haircut. Got my hair cut with Yuni - super sweet..English sub par, but who cares because this is a Korean salon! I'm not here to learn literature, all I want is a sick ass hair cut. After the wash, she dried my hair practically completely before proceeding to cut. Then, she used those shears with the comb thingie blade and proceeded to snip away, layering my hair with precision and laser focus. Love how the ends and layers are pointed and textured..not all blah-boring-yawn straight across blunt. She did a good job freshening up my side sweepy bangs. After she straight ironed and styled, she did a few finishing snips when she noticed something she didn't like. Guess she's OCD about her cuts. I like it! That's what I'm talking about. I came here today for the 2nd time to get a hair cut and yes!! I am a FAN! Haesue is the nicest lady ever! She takes customer service to another level! The last time I came here was back in June of 2013 when I first tried this place out through yelp. And the results weren't that great. I didn't like my hair cut. And yes, I reviewed that. But Haesue messaged me saying what was wrong and please come back I will try to fix it. I didn't get the message until after I went back home for the summer. Still Haesue informed me to come in when I was back in school in the Fall. I think they may do a better job than supercuts, but don't expect the special treatment you'd get at more expensive salons. I wasn't too thrilled with my experience here. They started to get busy after I came in and I could tell they were in a rush so they didn't spend as much attention to detail once more people started coming in. I had my hair cut by Paul. He was nice, but didn't speak much English so we didn't talk much, which is ok by me. I asked for a trim with some layering but I'm pretty sure my hair is about 3 inches shorter. They also didn't use any kind of heat protectant product when blow drying and straightening which can really damage your hair. When styling my bangs it was done in a strange way so that they pretty much were in my face and impossible to get out of my eyes the rest of the day. The only real positive thing about my experience is that my split ends are gone! Though, sadly, along with 3 inches of hair... Overall this place is just ok for the price. I have experienced much better at the same price point. I was kind of disappointed since I thought they'd be able to better manage my thick Asian hair, being an Asian salon. I only come here for a 2 inch trim, and $40 for that (including tips) is way too much for only a trim. I really liked my first experience here. I like blunt trim cuts, and Karen the one who did it for me had it just the way I wanted. However.. the second time, her service went downhill for me. When I waited for her to be just about done with the guy she was working on, she was doing his hair in a calm state. When she came to me, she rushed the whole way through and burnt my forehead with the straightener. She also combed my hair really roughly (hurt like crap) and her scissors were so close to my eyes and face. I got a haircut from this place on FRI (5/42012). Susan, was supposed to cut my hair @ 130pm. I asked for her because in the reviews it said she was skilled @cutting men's hair as well. When I came in they said this is the woman who will be cutting your hair "susan." Then after they shampooed my hair, she was doing a color-treatment and a cut on someone else's hair! To be fair I arrived @134pm & it she is making more money doing the color-treatment BUT I wasn't told about this before I came in. So after I get shampooed/dried, I'm waiting over 15mins for someone to cut my hair. Then somebody comes over to tell me how I would I like my hair cut, then in Korean tells the person who is cutting my hair how to do it (3 inches off). I lived in South Korea for 16 months when i was in the Army & I even had a Korean roommate ...so this is fine. But there are some things I need to say about how to cut my hair because the back of my head slopes funny and I guess I didn't get that across. Now the stylist put in a good-effort BUT something just didn't seem/look right. So the other woman came over again translate I was frustrated but wanted to be polite so I didn't now how to state my request. So then, the stylist, who was kinda of embarrassed ended up hastily cutting (lol, correcting) my hair, and then in two-minutes it was like okay, done!!! Because I'm a gentleman I still gave a tip! I think this place is a perfect place for folks for people who have straight hair or Asian type-hair & for white-guys who don't have curly-hair and want to get a simple cut BUT if you have curly hair & are a guy and you have some extra-directions to explain, you may have trouble & this may not be the place for you. --- ---- ---- I wanted to wait these few days before I posted, to see how the haircut turned out. And my biggest complaint is the way they didn't tapper the back of my hair and how it doesn't look congruent w/hen it meets the sides or as I was joking with some Korean folks at my gym a couple blocks north, they said the back of my head looks like a Korean head, lol, how it goes at a 90 degree angle and doesn't follow the contours. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until after. While, I don't have anything personal against this place, although not having the person I thought was cutting my hair was weird, overall it was just an unfortunate cut & I've been lucky to have had great stylists/barbers for the longest so oh well, I'll give the salon a chance to rectify things and then we will see if this stands. read more

Bring pictures of what you want your hair to look like! The staff is super nice, and they were able to see me quickly even though I was a late afternoon walk in. The $35 haircut price includes a shampoo and blow dry, which is a pretty good deal. The lady who cut my hair was chatty and friendly and gave me tips on how to style my hair during the whole process. BUT. I asked for just a few layers to get some swing back in my hair because it had been a year since my last cut and was blunt and super thick. I specifically told her I didnt want a lot of layers, and to leave the length since im still in the process of growing it out. I ended up with a wispy super layered cut thats poofy on top and stringy on the bottom. I know its a popular style in Japan, but its not what I asked for. I also asked her for straight across bangs, and I had to stop her because she started cutting wispy layers into the bangs too. Its not a terrible cut, but its definitely not what I communicated. I just really needed to find a hairdresser who knew how to cut my hair, you know? So I took (almost) everyone's advice here and called Kevin. Thankfully, he had an early morning appointment open. Lee Ka Ja is easy to miss, since it's around the corner of a commercial complex, overshadowed by Galleria Market and Starbucks. Inside, it's clean and neutral-colored. I was instructed to pick a robe before getting my hair washed. I had no idea that's what they wanted me to do, so I spent five minutes in the backroom staring at a closet full of spa robes. -_- The woman who washed me was all right. I kinda wanted to get a head massage, but she couldn't hear my telepathic messages. Plus, she put a towel on my face. WHAT! Yeah. That freaked me out. I get why she did it, but it's unnecessary. No matter. I didn't come here for the perfect hair wash anyway! When Kevin finally got to my chair, I showed him a picture, he nodded and proceeded to get to work. I think he only looked at the picture for ten seconds. I said a little prayer hoping that those ten seconds were enough. And guess what? They were. I felt totally at ease trusting my hair in his hands; he cut quietly and efficiently. I let him work his magic while I dozed on and off to sleep. By the time he finished, I felt SO HAPPY with my new haircut. He did a fantastic job, and I couldn't find complaints if I wanted to. I looked pretty again! I wanted to try a little something new, so I decided to get my haircut besides my usual barber. I called in asking if I needed a reservation and I was told I could just walk in. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted with the question of whether I had an appointment. I said no and I was told that I may have to wait a bit. Okay, I was fine with that, but what irked was after the 45 or so minute wait I was told chastised for not making an appointment. The lady told me that it's a Friday afternoon and that they are very busy and will do it out of courtesy of having me wait. I got an email from the stylist after posting my review. I'm giving 1 more star since she tried to offer me band-aid services. She apologized and offered free hair services. I was going to give 2 stars but changed my mind because I have trouble staying calm when I look in the mirror. I have a wedding to go to next month and need to find a different haircut since my bang were botched and my layer, badly trimmed. I will not be returning because there's nothing we can do about my bangs until my hair grows and I feel more comfortable going to someone with more skill who can blend it into a nicer haircut. In this case there's nothing that can be done for me from Lee Ka Ja and it would have been better had the stylist followed my instructions from the beginning instead of going rogue on my hair. Came in because reviews from yelp and needed a place open on Sunday. I can tell you I am a happy customer. I had Gia cut my hair. I showed her a picture on my phone and she was able to replicate it perfectly. I've had other stylist elsewhere who said they hated it when customers did that because it wouldn't be doable to cut it the same for everyone. Well I came in and showed it to Gia and she was able to replicate the bangs perfectly. That's the difference with going with someone who knows what they're doing. Gia took her time at making everything perfect. I definitely will be coming back to her again! And it was only $35 including shampoo and blow out. read more

I've been going to Paul for my magic straight since I was 19 years old; I am now 23 and the compliments on my straight and shiny hair are endless, all thanks to Paul. He recently did a coating on my hair for a brown/auburn color in order to prevent damage to my hair. In my opinion, girls go to Paul for Magic Straight and hair cuts. I came here because I had my hair cut in Korea from this same chain (I guess you could equate it to a more expensive supercuts?) and for some strange reason thought they could cut it the same exact way. Fortunately for me they did. To be honest, I had my hair cut here a couple years back, but I really wanted to write this review because of my experience. I think it might have been a holiday (perhaps Memorial Day?), one of those holidays that not everyone gets to take off work. I passed by just to see if they were open. I saw they were cutting someone's hair so I thought they were open. Turns out they were just hanging out and trimming that person's hair. They looked up to begin to say they were closed but Jennifer walked in from the back and said she would be willing to cut my hair. I wasn't coming in for a trim but for a hair cut, from long to short hair. I showed her a picture and she cut my hair in the way it was in the picture but styled for my face and hair. I loved it. I did appreciate that she wasn't in a rush to get me out of there even though I understood her kid as he was complaining to her in Korean to hurry up because he wanted to go home. BTW not sure if Jennifer is still there But anyways, I wanted to share my good experience with their customer service. Albeit it was several years ago :) Price is about the same compared to all the salons in SFV so in that sense it wasn't too bad either read more

Hana colored the tips of my hair an ashy purple and it turned out really nice. I also got a trim and got my hair layered a little bit. However, I had to come back two times and it took a long time to complete. Update- I washed my hair twice and the color is already gone and turned gray! read more
