Most importantly, I had almost 1TB of honeymoon photos and videos that hadn't been backed up. I googled "hard drive recovery Austin," which led me to Tom at IT Data Recovery! After reading his (well-deserved) glowing reviews on Yelp & Google, I reached out to Tom around 11:45PM via Yelp to provide full details of the situation. To my amazement, Tom responded back at 12:15AM and let me know to call in the morning. I was grateful for Tom's speedy and accommodating response since Google showed that his business is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. On Sunday 01/08, Tom & I spoke on the phone. He was honest and upfront with the pricing, provided realistic expectations of what ITDR can do, gave us the go-ahead to drop off the HDD at his office, and provided detailed guidance on how to find the office. I also had a lot of questions that Tom was more than patient enough to answer! The drop-off took no more than 10 minutes. Tom asked us which folders in the HDD were a priority (in case it crashed mid-cloning). For me - it was the Honeymoon and Hawaii folders; everything else was second priority. Throughout the following week, Tom provided progress updates via phone & e-mail. As an anxious person, it was reassuring that he was super communicative! Tom also shared with us a recovery agreement to sign via e-mail. On Monday 01/16, Tom let us know that he was able to recover perfect copies of the Hawaii & Honeymoon videos and 99.9%+ of the sectors after the repairs and multi-pass cloning. On Wednesday 01/18 (10 days after drop-off), we picked up our recovered data. Tom placed them in a 5TB portable USB drive that was compatible for both Mac and PC. Tom reminded us to make copies of the backup and let us know that ITDR has the data backed up for 30 days in case something went wrong after pick up (e.g., if it was dropped or mishap with the transfer process). If you are uncomfortable with that, you can also let him know via e-mail to wipe the data earlier. Payment was quick and easy, and Tom sent us a receipt via e-mail afterwards. Overall, everything from beginning to end was super professional and efficient. I highly recommend Tom & ITDR!

In my case it was my son's flash drive, containing key work files, that he had inadvertently reconfigured for a gaming device, thus making it unreadable on a PC. Unlike the other services I had called Brent said that he would call back within 30 minutes with instructions, and that the final cost would be around $100 (final cost was $99). Over the next 2 hours Brent patiently walked me through his remote procedure, unfazed by the fact that he had to work around my PC configuration, and unperturbed when my labtop died because it ran out of charge. At the end all the files were recovered. And though some were unusable because they were overwritten the very fact that some they were recoverable greatly lifted my mood. No miracles were promised, instead I received an efficient, cost effective solution delivered in a jovial and totally professional manner. Thank you Brent for what I hope will be our only encounter. They charged us $500 to tell us that our hard drive was bad. which we already knew since that was the reason we took it to them in the first place. Then they wanted another $2500 to recover the data. After many failed attempts to contact our "Account Manager" we finally were able to cry foul and the "generously" agreed to lower the amount to $1500 but also increased the recovery time to 5-7 days. Which was no bargain either. We had to put down $299 just to get them started on the recovery. After 5 days I called to find out the status of the recovery and again after multiple attempts at contacting both the Account manager and the local office was told that the recovery was proceeding and should be completed by the end of that day. A day later we received a Form letter that said that they had exhausted all their recovery techniques and that NO data could be recovered! So now we are out $800 dollars for absolutely NOTHING!!! They have terrible customer service and are apparently inept at doing exactly what they claim to be experts at doing. We have no way of knowing exactly what they did. They could have just put the disk on a table and stared at it for all we know. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!
