During the break, he caught a horseshoe crab and told us a lot about them, then did a show and tell about Cape shellfish. And of course, kayaking on the Cape on a perfect July day - doesn't get much better! The water was cool and clear, all the equipment was in great shape, and all we had to do was show up and follow Matt out into the windy, grassy waterways. I'd go again tomorrow if I could!

Never having done a kayaking tour before, we were unsure what to expect. To quickly sum up our tour, it was fantastic! When we arrived we were met by our guide Matt. He was personable, knowledgeable and made us feel safe and secure. After a brief safety discussion, we were off. The canal bike path is beautiful - peaceful, pristine, and not crowded. It was challenging for us to go the full 13 miles up and back (we aren't experienced cyclists so it took about 2 hours), but we only had to stop a couple times. The staff at Rideaway were very helpful at getting us onto the right size bikes and explaining the route - highly recommend!

The brakes failed to operate correctly because I'm big and didn't know that both calipers needed to be used when braking. Similar to the stress of mountain biking. I was never educated about this and had a costly repair. Jeff called me today to tell me that he was sorry about missing this detail during my purchase. He offered to reimburse me for the repair. Jeff was great on the phone and I'm so grateful for that. Five stars now!! I didn't accept the reimbursement offer, this is a skilled bike shop that will continue to have my business. Brought my bike in for service and they returned it in worse condition than when I brough it in…read more $650 later, the brakes were still rubbing, the new bar tape was left hanging, and the gears were crashing so badly that only 4 out of 10 were usable. When I returned it to complain, they were agressive and tried to blame me and said it was fine when they tested it. Turns out they had installed an 11-cog rear cassette on my 10 speed bike and they (despite their insistence) had never bothered to test it. Unfortunately, this was not the first time they had messed things up, but it will be the last.

I did check w/ him to make sure that he/his business was compensated b/c trulia took client money and then literally closed up shop and ran. To be honest, if he told me trulia had not compensated him, i would have happily paid twice. It was a really great way to spend the day at the cape. Two disclaimers. The kayak tour is not at the Jarves address. That is just where a sign w/ directions to the beach/parking ($5 or $10) is available. Also none of the businesses near the sign at Jarves St have any public restrooms, so that could be an issue. I nicked a star b/c I had difficulty getting in touch w/ Justin to arrange the tour closer to the date. So we just took a Thursday off and winged it. We were lucky there were two slots open. Other people on the tour did say he called them back promptly and this wasn't an issue. He does spend a good portion of the day outside working, so its possible he just missed my messages. Anycase, still worth it. We had a wonderful time.

The tour itself was neat, never kayaked through an estuary before... it seems like it'd be a good way to introduce someone who's never been kayaking before, to start here, before doing anything more open water. The tour itself was decent, however, because we were in a group of 8, it was hard to hear majority of what the tourguide was saying, unless you happened to be the kayak that was right next to him. Another downside of kayaking an estuary vs something more open water is that several times, it begins to be more like bumper boats in some parts! Overall, a nice experience and a neat alternative for something to do on the Cape. However, communication could have been better. The tourguide told my friend organizing, that he'd call her the day before with more details, but never did. Also, the address that is given, actually leads you to the front of an art gallery and only a placard out front advertising "ecotourz" without an address telling you how to get to the actual meeting area (which is ~1 mile away).

People bring their 4x4s here and park and play (but not many of them). Get to South Street off 6A, and then drive, drive, drive to the end of South Street (it's bumpy and gravely and a fun ride) where we can park in a nestle of trees. From there it's a quick hop over the dunes via the path, and endless splashing and playing await. Check the tide times for Barnstable harbour, and head on down for low tide! There's even some rocks to play around on if you do hit high tide....
