But we never did. She surprised me by buying this treat basket for me. It is now 3am in the morning and I have eaten almost one third of the basket. Lol. I would say best chocolate ever. On this recent visit I couldn't find a couple of items but did find two things I can't live without: chocolate-covered macadamia nuts and Kewpie mayonnaise. No, I don't eat them together. After putting a few other things in my basket I got in the long line (15 people) to check out at one of the two checkstands open. It took about ten minutes. The cashier was quick and very pleasant once I got there. Aside from their Japanese items they also have products from Hawaii, as well as produce and meat sections. There are also grab-n-go bento boxes that many people come here for. It's not my favorite Japanese store but it's okay.

So when it came time for husband's birthday recently, I wanted to surprise him and his small office with some cupcakes. I just didn't have the time to bake 3 dozen cupcakes and hand deliver them. That's where Fairy Cakes Bakery came to the rescue. Fairy Cakes Bakery specializes in gourmet cupcake deliveries. Brilliant! I e-mailed Kerena at FTB on a Sunday and she responded immediately. I needed the cupcakes on Tuesday, which was no problem. Kerena was very helpful via e-mail and they delivered the cupcakes when promised with very cute packaging and a hand-written note. I ordered red velvet, black and white, and raspberry vanilla, which were all a huge hit with my husband and his co-workers. My husband brought one of each home and I thought they were pretty good. The cake part was a tad dry, which I find to be such a common problem with most cupcakes, but the icing was delicious. And at $2.50 a cupcake, I thought they were a deal. Two downsides: There is a $15 delivery charge BUT they do hand deliver them anywhere in Orange County and the Inland Empire. It's the cost of convenience, I say. Also, when you order a dozen cupcakes, they must be of the same flavor. That wasn't a big deal for me, but it might be for others who might want more variety. I think Fairy Cakes Bakery is a great way to go if you want to surprise someone with a treat and/or not deal with going to Sprinkles or Susie Cakes (and spending at least 50-75 cents more per cupcake).
