Food was tasty and good. The service just took forever. It seemed like our poor waitress was the only waitress for the whole restaurant. It took a while for her to get everyone's drink orders. She made multiple trips when getting orders for our whole table granted we did have a party of 10, which they accommodated nicely and held our reservation even though we went to the wrong Sekisui at the time of our reservation so we were late getting our table there. Oops! She thoroughly checked everyone's IDs and was even kind enough to tell someone that theirs was about to expire and that they needed to go to the DMV...... Took forever to get our drinks and eventually get our food ordered. Poor waitress even forgot to get an order from someone at our table. The udon soups came out faster than the sushi which is always impressive to me since sushi usually comes out WAY faster than the hot dishes at most Japanese restaurants. This place was awesome! Not overcrowded on a Friday night like I thought they might be. The caterpillar roll was so amazing and fresh tasting. Our server was a tall gentleman who gave us excellent service. We also tried the Daimyo platter and it was a meat sampler that did not disappoint. I live within walking distance to this place and have yet to go until Saturday night. We walked in, there was no wait, and we went straight for the sushi bar. Sat down and were immediately greeted by the sushi chef, as well as the waitress and the nice couple that was next to us. We ordered the sushi dinner, which came with a TON of sushi as well as some nigiri and sashimi. We also ordered the Mimi Roll, which was delicious. The chef gave us some free samples to try as well as a squid salad. We ordered a bottle of sake and enjoyed every bit, then the couple that was sitting next to us shared some of their sake! It was overall such a wonderful meal and enjoyable evening. We can't wait to go back! read more

This is my favorite sushi place. Hiro-San is the best sushi chef in memphis. I sit at the sushi bar and he serves me a special hand roll of Sea Urchin and Salmon Roe. A trip to New York created an interesting pallet for me and I enjoy the Japanese roots when it comes to sushi, instead of the Americanized version. Hiro-San also gave me dried fish fins, which were not on the menu but a very good experience. I'm thrilled with the service and selection at this Sekisui! read more

This is the case where bad service can really change a really good restaurant into one I might tend to avoid unless maybe I'm doing takeout. My fiancé and I came into the restaurant for dinner and right after being seated, I specifically told the server that my fiancé is gluten intolerant and we need to make sure to avoid gluten including regular soy sauce. Well, first thing is they were out of gluten free soy... really? Well after she told us what to avoid, we placed our order and I ran over to Kroger for soy sauce that wouldn't make her sick. A pain, but no big deal. When I got back, the server told us our appetizer had roe in soy sauce. We told her to leave it on the side or off completely, her response was we could just scoop it aside. Ok, weird, but ok. Well we got it and the roe is everywhere and there was nothing she could eat. I finally got our servers attention, showed it to her and said we needed a new one because there's no way my fiancé could eat what she brought. We got the replacement and for some reason, she didn't take the first one she brought and it wasn't until she brought the check that we found out why. We told her dietary restrictions, she ignored them and ended up charging us twice for both orders. Pretty classless and thankfully, there are other places to go. read more

Today I ordered lunch to go. I was sadly disappointed. The old location was amazing. The sushi I received today was subpar at best. The rice was on the dry side and the the rolls did not hold up, not sticky at all. I also got my all time favorite the deluxe house salad. The crab meat tasted bland and waterlogged. The ginger dressing seemed watered down as well. I was also shocked to see that instead of little to go containers of soy sauce, I was provided with 5 dinky little packets. Considering I am paying for what should be fantastic restaurant sushi, I expect a little more for my $40.00 lunch. Maybe the dinner service is better? I don't know but what I do know is that I'll stick with sekisui pacific rim next time. read more

Love this place! The arctic and the pikachu rolls are my favorite. I eat the pikachu with a sweet sauce and it's the best. Never had bad service people are nice there. Not very talkative but they get the job done. Doesn't take long for food, and never have to ask for a refill! Salmon on the artic roll seems to be very fresh. They have an awesome combination menu with soup and a salad that usually under $15 which is great for lunch. I come here about once a week and I'll continue to! read more

Love this place! Hubs and I go here for dinner or lunch at least once or twice a month. The sushi and the service are always great. I love the ginger dressing on their house salad, and our favorite rolls include the prada roll, the sekisui roll, the Memphis rainbow roll, and the rock-n-roll. The atmosphere is relaxed and all the staff are friendly and welcoming without stopping by your table too often. read more

I always go here when I'm feeling raw fish and it always seem to be clean and very inviting by the staff and Chef Hiro. Sit by the sushi bar and Chef Hiro will show you a great time. I feel as though we were tricked tonight as I had dinner with my family. The waitress brought us an extra roll that we had not marked on the sheet. I notified her immediately and asked if we accidentally marked it and she went and checked and said that we didn't. I told her we hadn't even touched it yet and asked if the staff wanted to eat it because I didn't want her to throw it away. She said they wouldn't eat it but that we could keep it and try it and it would be taken off our bill. Well, it wasn't and I pointed it out. When she came back she told us the manager wouldn't remove it because we ate some of it. I actually stuffed myself so I wouldn't leave half the roll and let it go to waste. We used to eat there often but I felt that was in poor taste. We were going to tip our waitress at least an extra 20% for letting us try the roll and be thankful we found something new that we might get next time. I just don't think this is a good way to treat a customer. read more

I had lunch there with a couple of friends, and I can say for certain that the blue crab roll and roll n' roll roll were quite good. I only noticed a discrepancy between the sushi rice that Sekisui uses versus the typical sushi rice I usually have. Sekisui's sushi rice isn't as vinegary as most sushi joints and is a bit on the dry side. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the overall experience and do agree with some of the other reviewers in that the service was a little on the slow side. read more

I love this place! The staff is always super friendly when I come in and the service is always great! Also their sushi has never disappointed and their miso crawfish bisque is amazing. THE original for sushi in Memphis, although this is a relatively new location for them. I highly recommend the 40 Kel roll and the Jacksonville roll. read more

Our server was really awful tonight. She timed out our order poorly. We got our sushi rolls a long time after the steak came out. I had to send the steak back. I couldn't eat it. It no flavor and was tough. They did take it off the check as they should have. The sushi was good! We have eaten here several times. We won't go anywhere else for sushi! The staff and sushi chefs are by far the best in Memphis. We go eat here at least 1-2 times/week. They know us and what we like...we don't even have to order. Having someone "know your name" is wonderful customer service. I don't agree with the other posts with 3 stars...some of you went right when they opened...and everyone knows...it takes time to get the kinks worked out! Hiro's creativity and passion for sushi/sashimi far surpasses other chefs in Memphis! They even were part of our engagement at the restaurant. Love this place, the people and the food!! read more

This was my first and last time visiting this restaurant. The food left much to be desired and one of the waitresses is questionable. We received our bill and it was lower than what we had been charged (we were fortunate to be able to view our charges immediately). She claimed it was because the "bank" adds an additional fee which they remove later but I've yet to see a bank add an additional 18% fee (mind you, the card is an American Express).
