I am so disappointed by their customer service, or lack there of. I had a Groupon for a couple's massage and tried to book an appointment by giving them a call as well as online. They were non-responsive by phone, even when I left multiple messages for them to call me back. They are open to texting of all things, yet when I asked if they could call me instead to go over the booking details, they asked me why I wanted them to call. Rather than put their nimble fingers aside and have a quick conversation, they offered me a refund. I was hoping to find a date and book in order to give this company a chance to show their true colours, but their "conflict resolution" of being quick to return our money did that instead. I wish I could give this experience 5 stars, however we never got anything positive to experience from this purchase. Selfology Spa is still my go-to facial & spa treatment place since their opening. The new location- super easy parking, very clean & quiet. I'm a regular client. They use good products, and my face feels & looks great after treatment (very important). All spa therapists are nice and owners are honest and good people. Looking at some recent negative reviews, people should realize that respect goes both ways, ie, if you treat others nice, and you'll receive same. No one likes rude customers. They make it look like they have availabilities right away, but then reschedule you for months down the road and make it impossible to reschedule for a sooner date. Groupon says you cannot get a refund from this company, so I have filed a complaint! I left bad reviews to try and get my money back, and they threatened me. STAY AWAY!!!! Please trust what I am writing here and never go to this salon. I experienced the worst customer service in my whole life, that I still can not believe what happened. I am not sure if the guy who we dealt with is the owner of this salon or not, but based on what he said, he is the owner. He is a super aggressive, tall Asian man who can scream and shout at customers easily. I purchase a coupon from Groupon at the end of January,2020 for couples massage. I even booked the appointment for a Saturday two weeks ahead. I received a text message that contained a date and time that was not working for me and was very odd as well. They asked me to confirm the appointment even though the date was for 2020-09-26. You don't even have the option to decline the time they gave you. I then started calling them 2-3 times per day with different phone numbers. I even sent an email and asked them to get back to me. No one called, no one replied to my email. After two weeks I went to the salon and talked to one of the staff. She then mentioned that the reason they don't answer any calls is because they receive 7200 calls per day which I believe is ridiculous. And then she said she will refund me and submit the refund through Groupon. I asked how long will it take and she said she doesn't know. Based on the comments and reviews from other customers, this is not the first time they are refunding the unhappy customers. Out of a sudden the owner came out of a room with a very aggressive and angry attitude and said I need to leave the salon, otherwise he will call the security. He was very unstable and aggressive that I did not feel safe at all. I ended up calling the police and filed a report due to his aggressive behavior. Police asked me to step outside of the salon to be more safe. And then after a while talking to them, I tried to leave and the owner came out of the salon and started screaming in the street. Please please don't ever put yourself through this situation. Trust me, it doesn't even worth it. If I read these reviews, I would never purchase any coupon for this place. I have not received my money back after 5 days, and I am working on my complain through Consumer Protection BC and the Vancouver Non-emergency police.The money is no longer important for me, my main concern is how this business even still running with all these negative comments. This place is ridiculous.... I tried maybe 50 times over the course of weeks to call them to book an appointment and was not able to. Eventually I went to the actual salon to ask for an appointment and she booked us for 2 months later. We patiently waited 2 months for our appointment, only to get a text a few days in advance saying that they had made a mistake in the booking (they had double-booked) and we would have to reschedule. The soonest appointment they offered us was another 1-2 months from that point. They seem to also be extremely rude and hostile and aggressive with anyone that writes them a bad review and exposes their awful customer service so I am looking forward to see what they'll have to say to me! I would urge people to avoid Selfology Spa. I intended to go because I had heard of positive experiences at the spa. I booked a Groupon last week but was unable to secure an actual appointment. I attempted to book an appointment online but it was showing no appointments for the next several months. I left 7 voice mails and emailed them 5 times. They responded to a couple of my emails but redirected me to generic instructions - the instructions that weren't working on the online booking system. While I was direct I was no rude, but the manager has been harassing me since then sending me long and incredibly awful messages on Facebook posts, emails, and Facebook messenger. I am in complete shock, it was awful. I have reported them to be Better Business Bureau. read more

Honestly, I dont prefer #hotstonemassages because I like firm pressure and usually hot stone is very light... She made sure she hit those knots good! Her facial technique is very professional and well practiced. I know since I am a licensed esthetician for 15 years. I love trying and discovering new spas! If you plan to go there, texting them for appointments is the best way. There isn't a reception desk there, so just walk in:).... Tell them I sent you and look for SUBE!!!!!! I have NEVER experienced such poor customer service. I am still in shock with the way my call was handled. The company will not invest in a receptionist so getting an appointment and/or someone to call you back is very difficult. I only ever went because Kawal is an amazing stylist. Moi was also lovely to deal with. The salon only has one stylist left and they have overwhelmed her with appointments causing customers to have to wait and be double booked. Both myself and the other lady that was having her hair done at the same time ended up leaving with wet hair. There was a third woman getting her hair done at the same time. None of us could wait. It's important to note that these appointments were made by someone else and Kawal was unwillingly put into this situation. When I called to speak to the owner or manager to express my concern I was told by the girl who answered the phone that it was not possible to speak with them (ever apparently). The girl was not interested in speaking to me or hearing what I had to say. She even put me on hold for a time as "there are other people waiting on the phone". I was told that my money would be refunded (that is not what I wanted) and that it would be best to take my business elsewhere). Kawal, if you read this (they didn't let me speak to you) please know that you are amazing and incredibly professional and call me if you leave this place. My review is my review and I am entitled to my thoughts an opinions and do not need them questioned nor argued although I suppose with as many negative reviews as this spa has they would feel the need to argue everything. PLEASE STAY AWAY Several moths ago our friend got us groupon gift. This was the beginning of a nightmare. We constantly tried to reach out to make an appointment but no phone service, only text messages in return. We had to drive over to make an appointment. On the day of appointment which was a Saturday, no one was in the store so we called but no response . We left but then got a call after 30 mins apologizing. ( wonder how they all of a sudden got a phone to call us but don't have a receptionist) The massage was ok however, we were told not to buy from groupon next time, but come directly to them and they would offer same rates as on groupon. They also talked about other services. Now, several months after messaging them and receiving text messages on odd hours, I visited them today and asked for the other services and mentioned that it's a challenge to get to them as they don't have a phone and I asked if they were outsourcing their reception duties ? At this point, a guy called peter came out and said " we don't want a lesson from you on our business model. we don't want feedback. we have been here 4 years and we are happy with the customers we have. " he also said " I don't like the ringing of a phone so we don't have a receptionist and that we are using technology of text messages. - Yeah right technology from 1995 paging services.. Here is a thought - If you are happy with the number of customers, don't have groupon ( which you told us to bypass next time ) don't have yelp where I can leave feedback cause you don't want any, and if I do leave feedback, you really don't care so why are you replying to everyone's reviews? If you want to run a public business, get ready for some feedback buddy! Make up your mind. Do you want customers? Do you want returning customers ? Do you want to use groupon and stay true to it? Do you want to have staff that show up on time so you don't waste our time ? Just received a lengthy self serving response from Selfology. Contrary to the response, messages were simple and requested call back. No serial, aggressive messages were ever made. There is no untruths about the failure of selfology to respond to messages and fact that no one picks up the phone at selfology. In fact, this problem is admitted by selfology in the response. In any event, Selfology could have better used their time to return calls or pick up the phone to answer calls vs responding at length online in yelp to make self serving comments. read more

If you value your time, avoid this place like the plague. I can't be any more emphatic about it: this place doesn't value its customers or its reputation, apparently, as they clearly don't care if new clients sit endlessly, waiting for their appointments to be honored. Usually reputable places want new clients to go away with a positive impression of their business, so those clients will return. Not this place. I got a Groupon for my teenage daughter who is badly in need of a haircut and who FINALLY agreed to get one. I called this salon the other day to book the appointment and the lady said they had a 12 noon slot available today. She sent me an email confirmation of this appointment. Today my kid and I readied ourselves for this appointment (you know how much prep time a teenage girl needs!) and, as we were driving to this salon, I get a call in my car from the place, asking if we can reschedule for today at 2pm instead of noon. I said no, I'm already in the car driving there! They said ok. So we get there, 5 minutes early. The receptionist apologizes for the confusion, says our stylist can see us on time, she miscalculated the time of her present customer's coloring job, but she can cut my daughter's hair while her present client waits while the color sets. She said it will all work out fine and asked if we wanted tea or coffee. So my kid and I sat on the bench, waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Meanwhile, a few stylists are working on customers' hair in the few styling stations near us; one was working just a few feet from where we were sitting (it's a super-small waiting area, and a very small salon). This stylist near us of course saw us (how could you not?) and heard me telling my kid, wow, they're 15 minutes late, 20 minutes late, 25 minutes late. Nothing was said to us. The receptionist was no longer around, and this stylist an arms-length away didn't acknowledge us. After half an hour of being ignored, we got up to leave. The stylist beside us then, finally, turned to us and said she was sorry, she's running late. I asked if she was the stylist who was supposed to tend to my daughter, and she said yes. Wow, this woman saw us sitting there for 30 minutes, right beside her, and never said a word to us. I told her that our time is worth something, that we honor our appointments and we made sure we were there on time, and I have no idea how they stay in business by not honoring their appointments. She apologized and we walked out. My kid still is in a dire need of a haircut and we wasted hours, mid-day, when we could've done a gazillion other things. I am completely pleased with how my hair turned out and the scalp massage was pure bliss. As my previous hairdresser has moved, unless something drastic changes, this will become my new go to place. After waiting for more than 6 weeks emailing and calling them trying to get an appointment, I sent them a polite inquiry. I've been here a couple of times for massages + foot massages/facials. Overall, a great experience! Staff are so friendly, and they make sure that you're comfortable and that they're aware of any health conditions that you have. Peter, who I believe is a co-owner, is very approachable and always so friendly and courteous. One negative though (and the reason why I'm giving 4 stars, not 5) is that the last time I was there, the quality of the massage was quite low. I think this is bc they had a new girl on their staff who was my therapist, but I really didn't enjoy the massage. There was very little technique and not enough pressure even though I asked a few times for more. She also couldn't really find my muscles very well, so a few times she was pressing down on ligaments which was not pleasant. So in the end, I didn't come out of it feeling very rejuvenated. The first session I went to was amazing though; I think I had Katie and she has magic hands! I think it just really depends who you get as your therapist. Also, if there is the option, I would pick the facial over the foot massage, but that's just my preference. One tip is that the couples room books very far in advance, so definitely be sure to plan ahead! Also, if you're flexible on any given day, Peter will let you know if there are cancellations and fit you in. I'll be coming back for a haircut soon, so hope the experience matches up! read more

I came to Selfology with a Groupon for a wash, haircut, and partial highlights. My colorist was Kei and my expectations was so-so from the get go. Maybe it's the layout of the room sans no reception (i call it overhead) to great you. I was greeted by my hairstylist and was offered tea, water or coffee. They also have netflix while they style your hair. It was refreshing. I actually feel good then. Lo and behold, I was transformed from the moment Kei explained to me what his plans are for my long hair. He indicated I don't need a haircut since my hair is healthy and the length is perfect, he end up giving me balayage and WOW! Transformation central happened. Bonus: They have a massage chair and blanket to keep you warm while you get your hair washed and treated. Good aromatic shampoo and I was given one sample of hair cream for my balayage treatment. They don't up-sell you which is good. Tip good. read more

I bought a groupon for a hair cut. I was excited and thought the deal was a steal. But then came the appointment. Impossible to arrange. I have called numerous times. I have left voicemails. I booked online and awaited a confirmation that never happened (but the website calendar looked free?). They texted me to my surprise and I replied but they did not respond afterwards. In order to secure an appointment, I had to physically go to the salon which is quite a trip (45 min drive) and hassle during the busy holiday season. When I was there, someone took my information down and booked me for the next day, which took about 2 minutes. This could have very easily been done on the phone or email. The wash was okay. The cut was nice. Would I come back? No. When I want to book an appointment, I want it to be simple and easy. I had gone to Selfology for Alvergue 2 years now, it does takes awhile to get an appointment but whenever I go I'm happy with how my hair turns out. Initially my hair was treated by Alison, she did an amazing job getting my hair from red to blonde gradually in a couple sessions because I didn't want to fried my hair, she explained to me the benefits and gave me a transition to the new color, note: red is a hard pigment to get rid of. Alison left and today Kawal rock her magic on my hair, she is super kind and knows what she is doing. I highly recommend you to see her! Selfology is a highlight on my ay for sure! I went to this place for my boyfriend's birthday. I am a beautician and I've worked in many spa in the past in my home country, so I have knowledges about how to do a good massage and it was the first experience for my boyfriend. I've booked an hour full body massage + 30 facial. The place is tiny but it is not really bothering, the employers are really nice and explain really well about their products, they ask important questions (allergies , how much do you want the pressure etc) my boyfriend said firm and I said moderate. When the woman started massage me, it was at the beginning too firm so I asked lighter, which she did , the massage was in general great , and my boyfriend has been really happy. I especially loved the facial and when we went out of the spa, our skin was so smooth , and my boyfriend noticed me that my face looked healthier and better (haha). I would recommend this place, the price are so affordable and the employers are really nice. All the people who complained about the appointment services, just go head to the spa and make the appointment instead of complaining, this spa offer you a wonderful deal , so I would rather go take the appointment myself and get a good price than spent $400 for an hour duo massage in any other spa just bc they answer to the phone, be understable that they have a lot of customers. Appalling service to book. Originally bought 3 for me and my friends as a 40th birthday present. Covid hit spa closed by the time they opened the groupon was on the brink of expiry- no one answered my calls or emails at the spa so cashed in for groupon bucks. They finally got back to me with dates and said if I want those same treatments originally purchased I would have to pay an extra $25 per person - terrible business practice and awful customer service. Came here again with their current promo after my first visit a couple years ago for a cut and color. My hairstylist ran 30 min late. When I was finally seated, I was put in a chair near a vent blowing cold air. I mentioned how cold I was with the vent and requested the AC to be turned down, and was left where I was despite there being an empty chair elsewhere. My package included a foot bath. At the end of my service, I asked about the foot bath since it was already late. I didn't get any apology whatsoever and was just told I wasn't missing much. When I called in to share my concerns with the manager, I left my contact information but never heard back. I emailed Selfology saying I ageed to the refund based on it being a simple process to which I got the the response ''You have to be nice to us. you seem to have temper in your reply, as in that case, we can simply refuse to relate to you. A lot of people have had issues booking here. I booked a couple's massage knowing this would be the case, and was therefore open to the fact our appointment might be months away (which it was, 4 months to be exact). To provide further context, my husband and I received a gift certificate through Groupon to go here... so we didn't have much of a choice as to where we were going, but we were open for any date that suited both our needs at the same time, and that led us to December! Upon entering, you'll think: Woah this place is tiny, where are they going to massage us?! But then you get lured into the back through some hallways and get taken into a pretty zen-like room, and receive a really good massage. I was asked how I liked my pressure, and I got just what I asked for - I hate when people complain about getting too light or too hard of a massage, tell the masseuse or RMT exactly what you want! They can't read your mind. If you still don't get that, then complain :) ALL IN ALL - Great massage. Clean facility. Very relaxing. I hate to write bad reviews...but man, terrible massage. Too hard and poor technique on all the wrong places. Super soft and almost lazy? everywhere else. I get massages often and thought I'd try a new place and was super disappointed...and really sore after! She made my neck and shoulders worse then what I came in with :/ I also had a facial and while the products used where nice the technique again was terrible. She rubbed the product over my closed eyes repeatedly and I had to wash my eyes out multiple times with saline when I got home because they stung so bad from getting product in them. read more

I would give the stylist 5 stars for her work and care with my hair however I would I give 1 star for the timeliness. I'm a semi-regular here for the full-body and foot massage, and so far I've had 2/3 incredible experiences, and 1/3 incredibly painful experience. I love the clean and quiet atmosphere, and the soothing scents and sounds during my massages. The masseuses vary quite widely in terms of their technique and routine. My first couple of massages were perfect, and my body was in heaven both during and after my massage. My most recent massage, however, was so painful. I persistently asked my masseuse to reduce the pressure especially in my sensitive lower back, but she continued to apply too much pressure. My entire back was sore and stiff for a full 24 hours. My tip would be to note the name of the masseuse who gives you an awesome massage. For $69 for 1.5 hours, I can't complain too much. read more

I bought a Groupon for a massage and facial and it was so worth it. My therapist used the whole time and didn't rush the treatments which I have experienced at other spas. I felt so relaxed at the end and my facial was so great for my sensitive skin. I highly recommend. read more

Critical: Communication, Professionalism. I use Groupin a lot to find new and exciting things. If I love them I go back, tip well and don't mind paying full price for a service. That said, I bought a Groupon in January and was pretty excited to try this place. Complete waste of time. First of all, they don't EVER answer the phone, only an answering service and they don't return any of the messages you leave. They literally texted me saying they don't book apts by phone but can help via text. Great, right?! Nope. They only text you back incomplete, gibberish info, like it seriously was as if a 5 year old texted. They asked for all my info; name, contact, voucher code, times I'm available etc which I provided to hear, nothing. After another week I called and texted. Nada. My groupon was now going to expire, even though I spent all the time and effort to provide them with what they requested for booking in a timely fashion. I Finally said enough and just traded in my groupon today. Waste of my time. Super unprofessional. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

Saw my roommates hair after getting it "fixed" from a botched first try. Still really bad. And it's just a plain straight cut. Perhaps the hair dresser is new and inexperienced but if that's the case they should have been supervised and assisted. Especially since this was a followup from the failed first attempt. read more

I could have not met a more disrespectful owner who yells at customers. I booked a couples massages and facial for my mom and I three weeks ago. My appointment was at 11:30, we didn't get into the room until 12:15. When we came in today I am sick so I said I did not want a body massage if I could get just a foot massage. The lady said no. I felt she had a hard time understanding me so I was like ok we'll keep it as it is. They gave us massages and the lady never gave me a facial and then said she was done. I asked the lady that I was taking to prior to my service where my facial was and she said they couldn't do that. I have attached a picture of the confirmation email sent two days prior. It clearly state I was booked in for two massages and two facials. The lady that performed my service comes to talk to me she was very polite but I am obviously very upset as I've been waiting for three weeks for this facial. (I think that my disappointment is acceptable and should have been acknowledged.) That is literally the only thing I wanted, not the massage. She said the was told by the other lady that I wanted a body massage and a foot massage so that's what she gave me. She asked why I never mentioned it to her while she was performing the service and that was because they said we would be getting a massage first, so I assumed my facial would come after. Then the owner comes in. In the midst of explaining to him what had happened he cuts me off. Doesn't even let me finish. They offered me $20 off my next visit. Why would have pay $100 for something I didn't want. I understood it as if you go together as a couple you have to get the same procedure, so I would have been willing to do it and pay for the massage and facial together, so our services could be performed together. Anyway I have not met anymore more unprofessional. He started raising his voice and just muttering nonsense. ( which is now not surprise as I have read all his responses and he's just a straight up weirdo, talking about spirituality) I told him I would not pay for the massage as I never even wanted it. Their response was that there was a miscommunication and we would still have to pay. So I ask you this, if you went in to dye your hair blonde and it black instead, would you make me pay? The owner then says he's gonna report me and kicks me out. The thing is he wouldn't even listen to what I had to say so how can he be sure what he is doing is correct. He also said that I'm never welcome back, no worries as I never want to return. Don't waste your time going there. Ps. To the owner, don't bother replying as you have with everyone else. You clearly haven't learned the term customer service. Had you not been such a child, you would have actually gotten paid and you would have a had a reoccurring customer. There are many facial parlours in the lower mainland, other then you being cheap, no other benefits come along. Please remember just because you own a salon, you don't have the power. Without your customers you're just an empty space. Rely: we prepaid so hunny don't you worry you got your money. I've stopped reading after cus I don't care about your soul searching crap.
