My friends including myself (a total of 5 of us) bought this groupon because we wanted to go to selfology for part of a bridal party. All 5 of us had no luck getting hold of them. Emailed them as well and still no luck. I guess we will need to drive down someday and book our appointments. In addition, I find it quite rude for the selfology customer rep to say that the previous comment's words are bias and untrue. Full disclosure I had their groupon for a cut, deep condition and scalp massage. Bad bad bad. The massage was more like an annoying and painful head scratch that went on for way too long. When we got back to my seat I asked about the deep condition and he said that he used conditioner... so I guess basic cuts come with a shampoo and no conditioner. I asked for about 3 inches to be taken off, the stylist trimmed about a centimetre off of randomly grabbed chunks of hair. I have super thick hair and at the end of my cut there was no more than a handful of hair on the floor. The stylist had to borrow a blow dryer from one of the girls, didnt use a brush and blowdried my hair by flipping it from side to side and twirling it around his fingers followed by awkwardly grabbing the front tresses of my hair fluffing them up and putting his chin on the top of my head and posing for himself in the mirror. I finally had enough asked him to stop touching my hair, paid the tax for my groupon and got the he'll out of there. Prior to my visit last time, I purchased a social shopper voucher at $69 for a 60-min massage service of my choice and a 30-min essential facial treatment. In order to use the voucher, it was required that I make an appointment ahead of time. Upon my arrival at the spa, I instantly fell for their clean and inviting interior decor and their friendly, helpful staff. The masseuse who was assigned to me was a nice and soft-spoken Japanese lady and she handed me a short questionnaire to fill out in order to understand what are my do's and don'ts and tailored the massage to my personal preference and needs. During the treatment, she made sure all my sore spots were tended to and from time to time she would check to see if I was comfortable. The experience was excellent. The masseuse was professional and highly skilled. I'd visit again and specifically book her for massages (sorry, I can't recall what her name was! She has dark, straight hair in a bob cut). At the end of it all, the managers, Peter and Jessica, brought me tea, chatted with me and asked for my feedback and opinion. Honestly, every second of my experience here was more than satisfactory. In addition, my friend went through their IPL Facial treatments and her skin condition significantly improved - many scars and pigmentations disappeared, skin tone has become more even and acne problem has lessened! I wish I could give it a 0 but this is the lowest rating they have. I don't know what kind of experience you will have for the spa, but this is what I experienced for the salon services. Maybe I just got unlucky cause I've seen alot of positive ratings before I chose this place for my haircut. When I entered the location, I wasn't sure if it was the right place or not. There were magazines and hair all over the floor and there was no waiting area. This place is what they say, you get what you pay. We went to the shampoo/conditioner area, the old guy didn't even put a second towel around my neck so when he was washing my hair, I felt the water dripping down from my forehead. Then we went to the hair cutting area and I showed a picture of the style I wanted. He refused and he cut it waaay shorter than I wanted it to be. I didn't realize how short it was till I compared to the picture. Then he was blowdrying my hair, and it felt like he was burning my hair and my scalp, cause my head started to get red. After my haircut was done, he didn't put any products to make it seem like he did a good job and afterwards I've found lots of hair stuck to my face and neck. It was realy annoying to pick them off while I was waiting for the bus home. I will definitely won't go back and don't recommend it to anyone. This was by far the worst experience of my life and I'm not even picky when it comes to hairstyles. I did have another groupon for haircut and they did an amazing job last time. I got gifted a Groupon to Selfology. Booking was a bit confusing, but it was sorted out in the end. Spa is small, especially since I'm used to Spa Utopia and Willow Stream day spas. There was no reception area - walked right into the hairdressing area, which was a bit weird. I wasn't attended to until 10 minutes in so wasn't a great first impression. My expectation was quite low for the 90 minute treatment session I was getting - what can I get from a spa that's 1/8th of the size of the spas I usually visit? Apparently, a lot. My masseuse was a petite Japanese lady who was constantly smiling and very sweet. She introduced me to the products she will be using on me and asked me to choose the product fragrant I liked most - Loved it! Seeing how tiny she was, I asked for a deep tissue massage expecting to get a 'harder' version of swedish massage, but boy was I surprised!!! Massage was amazing...I was taken care of from head to toe literally (even my pinkie toes were massaged). I was so relaxed, I fell asleep once during the massage and a few times during the facial treatment- which has never happened to me before. Everything smelt great, techniques were well executed. I really had a real deep tissue massage, even better than the ones I get from the RMTs I frequent. Best massage I've ever experienced. This is the first spa treatment I've had in which I didn't feel like the masseuse cut my time short. The 90 minute treatment really felt long and that every minute was spent on taking care of me. The massage bed seemed clean and when I was leaving, I saw bed sheets for the other treatment room being changed. Washroom/change room is small but clean and well equipped. Were there things Selfology Spa could improve on? Yes, scheduling bugs should be eliminated, faster acknowledgment upon arriving would be better, but hey, that 90 minute spa treatment I got really was the best I've had so 5 stars it is! Don't buy a Groupon for this place you will be bumped to the bottom of the list. It's impossible to speak to someone in person over the phone. I gave up trying to book an appointment. Not happy that I wasted my money, not recommending. Also the responses from the Selfology staff to the many other unhappy yelp Groupon customers are condescending, rude and full of typos. They convey very little responsibility for the poor service these customers received and have a hostile unprofessional tone. I really hope they improve their business practices. read more

Update 2015: Noriko is no longer working in Vancouver :( ---- I've been a loyal customer of Noriko (hair stylist at selfology) for probably over 6 years now! I love her personality and how she cuts my hair. She doesn't use those thinning scissors and cuts with real scissors so it's less damaging to your hair! I've visited the new location once (she relocated here recently) and the space is very clean and modern! Brightly lit with a very comfortable massage chair while she washed your hair! Location wise it's quite convenient on Granville and 16th. I work in downtown so it's only one bus away. Parking can get busy around the area since it's south Granville but it's not too bad :)! I've be visiting the spa portion this week and looking forward to the results! Overall, I really like this place because they're friendly and very accommodating! read more

I Love "Selfology Spa", I have been seeing Sube there for 3 years now. My Favorite treatments are " Diamond Polar Skin tightening ", I.P.L., "Needless Mesotherapy" and Subes Hot Stone massage. The place is very clean,discreet and relaxing, with gentle music and a quiet retreat from the bustle outside. I even brought my Mom and my husband here, my Mom said that it was her favorite after all the different Spas I've taken her to in the past 25 years( even better than the Spa at the Kingfisher Resort/Spa) The services and packages are reasonably priced and a Great deal in my opinion. I recommend to buy your packages and book all your appointments in advance . They don't see guests " Back to Back" , and need time to sterilize the treatment area between clients, therefore there are only so many times slots available They also use " High quality " spa products, made in Canada and Europe, not bought from Shoppers or London Drugs. Selfology is a clean and modern looking salon. Parking is expensive, but that's not their fault. The only thing I wish they'd consider is to have their service charge/fees listed on their website! Bought a Groupon for the "Wash, Scalp Massage, Haircut, Deep Conditioning Treatment, Blow-Dry, and Style" for $26. Booking via phone was easy, and I also got a reminder call the day before my appointment. I booked my appointment during my lunch hour. Arrived 15min early, I was greeted by my stylist, Hikari. Being aware I was on my break, she did not waste any time and worked on me right away. Hikari is simply the best hair stylist I've ever had. Polite and professional, she took great care in doing my hair. She listened carefully to how I wanted my hair done and executed what I wanted flawlessly. The products used smell fruity and wonderful, and the scalp massage was just perfect. I would love to be her life-long client! Highly recommended! read more

My girlfriend bought a massage on Groupon for us, as she thought it would be a nice treat. After trying to book for a month, ringing and leaving voice messages with no response from anyone, we were forced to go in and book. We arrived and it seemed very hectic. There is no reception area so we were standing in the doorway when we first arrived. Once one of the guys on the bench went to book his appointment, we took a seat. The place felt under staffed and unorganized while I sat there. I presume from reading the negative reviews, we also had the unfortunate luck of being seen to by Peter. We waited a short while, then he took us into the back (apparently 'reception area', but it is just a treatment room) so we could try and make an appointment. We were a bit irritated as we had been trying to get in touch for so long, with no response back and our voucher expired soon. He accused my gf of being angry, when all we were doing was trying to sort out a time before she went on holiday. He said they didn't have anything til June. Just as I thought we might be getting somewhere and finding a date for us to go in, he started asking for her details. When we asked him what it was for, he said it was for a refund for the Groupon so that we got our money back before it expired. But to be honest I felt like he wanted to be rid of us and for us to leave, and this was the way he thought fit. He said they filter out people and made us feel like he didn't even want our custom. He said he would put us on a waiting list, I presume he would contact us via email, as he said that they took their phone off the hook 2 years ago, so anyone trying to phone up, you're not going to ever get through. Maybe if Selfology actually answered their appointment requests they would be able to afford a receptionist. There is a reason ALMOST ALL of the reviews are ONE star. First of all, it is clear from reviews dating back to 2016 with concerns about the same issues as reviews in 2019 that this company doesn't want to adapt, improve or grow to the needs of potential customers, but instead would rather remain ignorant. As many of the other reviews state it is impossible to get an appointment. No one returns emails or calls or confirms appointments through the website. As a web designer and graphic designer the website is impossible to navigate and most of the text is hard to read. I urge Selfology to hire a real web designer to fix this issue. I booked from groupon and just got a refund. 200$ they could have made if they just got back to me. I HAVE NEVER experienced service this terrible and I have worked in customer service, with clients, in sales and in business and marketing and have never come across such a unorganized mess of a company. And if Selfology thinks I am completely wrong they should take a second to look at all the one star reviews and do something about it to help themselves grow. Discovered this awesome new spa a few months ago on Groupon. I'm pregnant and not many spas take pregnant ladies so yay for me! Katie was amazing and she is trained for prenatal, I have gone back 2-3 times now and have had an amazing time everytime. Peter the owner is accommodating and flexible, arranging for time that works for me and super communicative on emails! I've brought my team at the office and they even let us stayed at their spa for a little "private party", really courteous and graceful staff with awesome massages to boot. Treated like complete garbage. My boyfriend and I bought a Groupon with this "spa" and attempted multiple times calling and emailing to book an appointment. Finally, after a month of attempts, we decided to go in person to book. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a young woman who brought us to a back room. She asked what services we'd like and we stated that we'd love to book a couples massage and facial. She stood there silent for a minute and said she had to get her manager. We waited for about 5 minutes when a tall and extremely aggressive Asian man (not sure if he's the owner or manager as he did not introduce himself) came in and stated "I'm giving you a refund" when I asked why, he put his hand in my face, and repeated he would refund us. At this point my boyfriend and I were at a loss of words...all we wanted was to book? Then when asked why he was so aggressive, he continued to say "WE ARE VERY PICKY WITH WHO OUR CLIENTELE ARE. Selfology is a small spa with a big heart full of compassion and consideration for their clients, like me! The staff went above and beyond expectations when I gave them a second chance! A groupon first brought me to Selfology, having experienced groupons at other spas I expected an "upsell." The staff members are very nice and didn't push anything on me at all. Although the spa lacks spacious multi-change-room facilities, the treatment room was clean and had calming aromatherapy. I eventually discovered they do have a lovely private bathroom shower and vanity area stocked with delightful products to fix myself up. During my massage & facial treatment almost everything was fine. Still, I felt the need to write to the owner to tell him how my first experience could have been improved after a fluke accident toward the end was improperly handled by one staff member. Update: she is now no longer with them. I'm an experienced spa-goer, and felt that my first experience at Selfology spa should not be a reflection of the entire spa team. In fact, after speaking with the owner, Peter and his business partner Jessica, I was informed the team member who treated me was new and out of a timing error hadn't been properly trained. They were embarrassed and wanted my impression of their spa to reflect the superior service they can deliver. Deliver they did! The owner Peter was very apologetic, and offered me a complimentary service with the best member on his team, Haruna. I agreed to come back and am so glad I did! Her hands worked wonders and she communicated a positive dialogue encouraging me to tell her where I would like more/or less pressure. After reading the reviews here, I'll admit, I was hesitant. I first came across this spa on Groupon. We were visiting Vancouver from Washington and we were on a tight schedule. I read that it was nearly impossible to make an appointment so before I purchased I wanted to make sure that wouldn't be a problem. It was not at all. I called and the phone was immediately answered. The woman answered all my questions, booked me on the day and time I chose and directed me to the website where i could purchase my spa package. I got a text afterwards as well as an email confirming my payment and appointment. 48 hours before i was contacted again by text to confirm my appointment. Personally, i prefer this form of communication. I'm not a fan of phone calls and rarely answer unknown numbers which leads to phone tag. We arrived 10 minutes early and was greeted right away and offered water or tea while we waited. There's no real waiting room but there was a small bench next to the hair stations. We filled out paperwork for our health conditions, massage preferences and the woman asked questions and got our expectations written down. We were taken back shortly after. The massage room was warm and cozy. The massage itself was wonderful. Perfect pressure, quiet music and the smell of aroma therapy oils being used. All things she got our preference on before starting. Our package also included a facial which was also relaxing and my skin feels wonderful. After we were done, she showed us products for sale and more packages for sale but wasn't pushy or intrusive. All in all, this was a great experience from start to finish and I'm very happy with my service and cost. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely return. read more

After about a month of trying I was finally booked and I did get an appointment but the treatment itself was ok the lady was very nice but did not speak a word of English. Anyway fast forward to 2019 i purchased a groupon for hair. It states that only 1 per customer and 2 as gifts no where did it say I had to be a new customer. So after another few weeks of trying to book via phone no answer, no answer to email but I did receive a abrupt text from Rowena, which I have attached with pictures. I was taken back at how unprofessional and poor this interaction was. I was told Because I had been before I could not use. I said ok then I will use the value but that is was disappointing. They then told me I was suited for an appointment and to get a refund at groupon. I asked why they were turning away business and to my shock they copy and pasted a section regarding the Vancouver police! This company is run by unprofessional staff I wouldn't even waste money on them. I will log an official complaint with groupon to look at having them removed. I don't think the business will last much longer I would happily pay double than the groupon to go to a professional company who values my business. Visited Selfology on a weekend night for their oceanic full body massage and seaflora facial with seaweed mask for eye and lip. I had tension on my back and shoulder from work so I opted for a deep tissue massage (there's Swedish massage if you want something lighter). My masseuse was communicative throughout the whole process - letting me choose the oil, explaining to me the products she will use according to my skin, and checking in on me to ensure the pressure is good during the massage. She tried to upsell me another treatment after the entire procedure which I took and prepaid for since I already had an interest in it and found the price reasonable. Overall, I found the spa to be of good value with reasonable prices. I give Selfology a 4/5 as the booking was slightly confusing since there were two website links, an app, and text option for requesting an appointment. Used a Groupon and so was expecting an inexperienced junior stylist and was really glad to see that the salon wants to offer full service at a discount for first time clients. Kawal was excellent, personable and kind. So pleased with her expert colour and style advice, she gently helped me understand that what I wanted wouldn't look the best and gave me a better option that i wasn't sure about but was very happy with the next day, seeing she was right! Definitely will return to Kawal even though not in my neighborhood. The regular price is reasonable and she offered a repeat visit discount coupon. A wonderful experience at Selfology. Peter and his team helped us squeeze in a last minute appointment for two on short notice. They were extremely responsive and accommodating. They also offered a great initial rate and when the bill came at the end it was exactly as we had discussed. It was a couples massage (60 min) with facial (30 min) and the massage was one of the best of my life. The folks at Selfology give an amazing massage, extremely relaxing and responsive to feedback from me (more or less pressure) All in all it was a great experience and I cannot recommend it more! read more

I tried repeatedly for three weeks to try and contact them - no replies to my emails, no-one answers the phone, there is just a voicemail saying leave your number, which I did, and they will call back, which they did not. Eventually I gave up and got a refund for my groupon. I find it hard to believe that this is a legitimate business. read more

They said that if some cancellations come up ill be first in line.. than magically an hour later a guy called Peter called me, and told me he has an opening in 2 days and gave me a few hours to choose from. He booked an appointment for me for 2 hours and i told him over the phone that from my experience and from the last time i was there, ive got thick hair and lots of curls so it takes around 3 hours and 2 wouldnt do it.. he said its all good no problems, he just asked me to cancel the groupon and pay them directly.. i explained that i couldnt cancel the groupon because i had used a credit that they gave me for 24h, and then he started yelling at me on the phone and became the rudest person ive ever talked to in my life.. he screamed at me that he wont accept my groupon because its the 2nd time i buy one and its 1 per customer (last time i used the Groupon was over a year ago) and told me that if i want to get service at his establishment i would only get it if i pay full price and not through a vendor.. I finally escalated to Groupon and they got the owner to message me back. I was given dates into July and August!! When I asked what their policy is for honoring vouchers that cannot be redeemed before their expiry, I received a very defensive email back from the Owner. Peter basically said it was my fault that I requested a Friday appointment. I gave 2 dates that worked for me. Yup I did. I tried to book 4 - 6 weeks in advance. If someone had bothered to call me or email me back to tell me this, I would've been happy to hear what my options were. This place needs serious help with customer service skills and the basics. The owners self centered response to all the negative feedback shows what kind of people they are. I thought it would be a nice treat for myself, but instead I returned to my car in tears! and contacted Groupon right away from my car sitting in front of the spa! I requested a refund! My story begins when I called the spa on Nov. 5, and left a message to book an appointment. Voicemail says to email them. Realized immediately after, I needed to book online. So I booked an appointment for Nov. 30, 2020. I waited a week, no reply to confirm my appointment, so I called again and left a message to call/email/text me to confirm. No reply. So I emailed them. No reply. Now its the weekend before my requested appointment (almost a month now). No confirmation yet. I checked my account and at the top it says requested and confirmed. But I was unsure, because I was suppose to wait for email/text confirmation which never came. I assumed its confirmed so drove 40 minutes down to Vancouver looking forward to my spa treatment. On arrival a person came out asked who I was and then told me my appointment had not been confirmed! After complaining to her, she said they don't usually do in person bookings but because I came all the way she would do it for me. But she was not apologetic, she didn't care to listen to what I had to say. All I needed was someone to call/email/text me back and I would've been happy to reschedule. I decided not to give them a try at all. It has left a very bad taste in my mouth! WOW!!! My first service at Selfology was a good one. I ended up purchasing a 4X package for future visits after my service. There isn't a reception area, you're likely going to be greeted by who ever to closest to the door upon arrival. Someone greeted me promptly and seated me in the waiting area in the spa section of the facility. It turns out I had a scheduling issue with my appointment and I was evidently upset about it. A staff member noticed me waiting 10 mins past my start time and the scheduling miscommunication came to light but she tried her best to suggest options and was courteous the entire time. Sube was my treatment specialist. She will be my 'go to' moving forward. Calm, collected, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about treatments. I highly recommend Sube to prospective Selfology goers. I was particularly impressed when she explained the products used in their facials. Not many people can get Sooke right. If you read this, rock on girl! I did not experience any sassy feedback from the owner but I must admit, reading some of the responses on here is pure comedy. The hair salon was pretty busy when I was leaving -- this place is worth a shot in my opinion, people obviously come here for a reason :) When I was upset with my appointment miscommunication they could have taken shots at me but they were incredibly accommodating to the point where I almost felt like the jerk in the situation. Terrible customer service at this salon, and a very strange "culty" feeling. After calling, leaving messages, texting and emailing for weeks, yesterday I decided to walk in to book an appointment. The hours sign on the door confirmed they were opened, though when I walked in it was empty with music on. I couldn't find a reception desk so walked to the back of the salon. A man came out and said "What do you want?" I asked him where reception was and he said "what for? Today we aren't even open, its our rest day." (untrue to the sign on the door). I said sorry and he cut me off saying "we dont deal with people like you that ask where reception is upon first meeting. we get 140 phone calls a day, i dont need to respond to You." super rude and a seriously weird feeling to their "culture" read more

I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews on here regarding Selfology! I've had nothing but amazing experiences there so far. I originally bought a Groupon for a massage which turned out to be a wonderful experience. Since I had such an enjoyable time there, I decided to try getting a facial. I have VERY sensitive skin, prone to eczema, so I am always nervous to try new places. The girl doing my facial (Sube) listened to all of my concerns and completely made me feel comfortable. She was able to answer all of my questions before we started the facial. My face absolutely glowed after my facial with Sube. I felt amazing! I've had really bad reactions from other facials in the past so I was so happy to have such a positive one here. I immediately booked my next facial with Sube and have been having incredible experiences ever since! I've received so many compliments from friends and family saying my skin is absolutely glowing even when I'm not wearing makeup which is new for me since I always have eczema breakouts somewhere on my face or body. The owner Peter is very friendly and the stylists are great. I saw Kaesha and he was great; he has a real passion for hair and it shows. This will now be my regular salon; I've been here 2-3 times now. The one day I had to wait an extra 20 mins and they gave me these wonderful tea and beauty samples. I have tried to get a hold of Selfology for over a month now. All I get from them are automatic messages with different email addresses and phone numbers I should reach out to them. Besides sending emails to all the email addresses they've sent on their messages, leaving messages on their voice mail, sending text messages and trying to use their website to book the service I paid for, no one has ever reached out to me, and no reservations are never confirmed. I bought a haircut groupon for this salon and have no complaints whatsoever. My phone message to make an appointment was answered within an hour and I received follow up texts and emails to confirm. My appointment began on time and the entire experience was lovely. Hair wash and scalp massage while sitting in a massage chair was a much appreciated treat.
