About a month ago, I had a technician do my Brazilian wax, she was extremely unprofessional and didn't know what she was doing. I'm a nursing student and have friends who are licensed estheticians so I know the basics of proper hygiene when it comes to these services. This lady was double dipping the wax and switching between hard wax and soft wax. This is extremely unhygienic and poses a threat for an infection. Not only that, but she kept waxing over the same spots because she didn't properly prep the area and she burned and irritated my skin. She also didn't get all the hair in my bikini area. She body shamed me and told me it was my fault for having "a lot of hair" but isn't it your job as a wax specialist considering you offer WAX services? I'm confused? During the wax appointment she had another girl stand in the room with me and made me extremely uncomfortable, didn't even ask for permission or my consent. I reached out to the owner and she basically mentioned I can come back for a free wax. I came in today to request that free wax that the owner and she called me a liar. She never told me I needed to come back in 3-7 days considering I explained the situation, but how can I come back so soon when your technician left me with irritated skin from waxing over the same area more than twice? She yelled at me to get out of her salon today because I came in for a service that she mentioned I would be able to received due to the unprofessionalism from her technician. I thought she was just putting there as a courtesy and did not bother to ask thinking she would still honor it if just a few months late. Oh boy No. She declined the gift card when I went in Mar, only two months after the expiration date. My friend just basically gave her $30 and she took it without blinking. According to Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009, Gift cards cannot expire for at least 5 years from purchase or last reload. Illinois even has stricter rule about it stating that retail gift cards generally cannot have an expiration date. If a card says it expires, that term is typically unenforceable in Illinois. I don't care how often you need to go threading your eyebrows, but 3-month expiration period for gift cards is illegal. I will be filing a complaint with Illinois Attorney General's Office Update: your terms and conditions on the gift card are ILLEGAL. I was not rude to your staff. You did not want to provide me the service so you asked your assistant to do my eyebrows to get me out of the door. I did not want to waste my friend's money so I accepted and tipped her well. The gift card is good for two services and you took it and said that's it. If I'd known this is illegal, I would have kept the gift card as evidence and refused your service.

Please note, because of this timing, and that no one in my life gets this done, I have no basis of comparison other than a few previous manicures. After needing some TLC, I booked an appointment with Gingerslam Nail Bar for a standard Mani-Pedi. Nothing fancy, no colors or shapes, just enough to bring them up to factory spec. The experience was alright. While I wouldn't go as far as to say it was painful, the discomfort in my cuticles being pushed back and trimmed was greater than I'd encountered in the past. Also, while it felt nice at the time, the oil used on my feet was less thrilling when it met sock and shoe. Finally, one other thing I wasn't thrilled about: In going from the pedi-chair to the mani-chair, I was given a pair of disposable flip-flops. These things were so hilariously flimsy and ill-fitting, my freshly cleaned feet kissed the floor more times than once. Thus, while not a negative experience, I can't say it was an extremely positive one. Though my nails, hands, and feet felt good after, this is counterbalanced by the discomfort of the procedure itself, and feet-on-bare-floor. While a rare luxury, it shouldn't include this level of discomfort, in my opinion. As such, I believe my next nail-care appointment will be somewhere else.
