Food is Amazing, definitely worth the wait if it's busy! It can be a bit rushed once you're sitting and getting your order in. It's pretty cool if you sit at the barstool area, check out the sushi chefs working their sun dai magic. I think one of the best things I love about this small hole in the wall is that it's one of the best sushi restaurants and never disappoint with their fresh quality sushi.

My go-to sushi spot in the Bay area! Service is always really good, but I do want to say that the parking lot is pretty small so during peak hours, it is somewhat difficult to park. I think that I've come here about 10 times already and I've narrowed my favorites down to 3 items: Mark's Special ($16.50) for the scallops, Storm Bringer ($18) for the crab, and Pork Belly Bento ($21.50) a good bang for your buck, leaving us with leftovers to pack for lunch the next day! I've been to a good number of sushi spots but I always find myself coming back to Sen Dai because they just never miss. Must try!

Returned to Sen Dai Sushi after almost over 10 years and was very impressed with the fish to value ratio. The sister and I ordered takeout to eat at our parents house for an early Mother's day celebration. Our total came to about $220 before tax and tip. This order included: Combo roll U - this had 3 pre-set rolls at a slight discount Rockstar roll - yum, loved the lemon slice and mac nuts Toro sashimi combo - 9 slices of maguro, o-toro and chu-toro Individual fatty tuna sashimis Sake wasabi don - thicc slices of salmon. The wasabi sauce was aight 10 pc sashimi combo - nice variety Beef bulgogi rice plate - kind basic but we ordered this for the SO (non seafood liker) Our order fed 5 people total and everyone definitely came out so full. I can't say anything about the interior since my sister picked up the order. She did say that after placing the order online, she received a call to confirm the order. I thought that was nice. Overall, Sen Dai would be my go-to for quality fish at a decent price.

I usually go to Kakuna, but this place honestly blew it out of the water. Prices are super reasonable for the quality you're getting. The fish was fresh, thick, and really tasty. We got the Chirashi A bowl, Spider bowl, and Alaska bowl, loved all of them. The restaurant itself is also a lot cleaner and better maintained, which I appreciated. Service was great too, staff checked in on us multiple times and made sure everything was good. Also nice that the meal came with miso soup. Overall, such a solid spot and I'll definitely be coming back.

Came here for lunch and it was busy as usual. The plan was to go light and stop at a couple other restaurants for lunch so we only got three rolls. We got three of our regulars and they were delicious as expected. Staff is always quick and service is kind and attentive. Love Sendai Sushi!

Late post, but we ordered from door dash from here. It was recommended by our local friend bc they give you so much for such a good price. They have online combo specials, only for online ordering. I got their chirashi combo A and chicken teriyaki for the little one. My husband got their combo F, came with a rainbow and dragon roll for $28 ish. It was a lot of food, love it. The sushi was pretty good too. No fishiness or anything. Good deals for online orders.

Sendai has always been a fav of mine. It's been a while since I've been here but even on a Monday evening, it was still popping. I tried their chicken katsu bento and that was solid. It's so worth the price for everything you get. The chicken was so crispy and tender and not overly breaded. Their katsu sauce was tangy and so delicious. Salad was good. I wish they added more dressing. They do have a waitlist you can join. Service is really good considering how busy they are. Parking: still a pain.

My last several visits, both dine-in and takeout, have been great. The food, service, and speed were good, as always. I'm glad to see that their service has improved to the pre-COVID times.

Sushi rolls are fantastic here. My favorite sushi spot in Milpitas so far! Service is great! Everyone is always so friendly and attentive. This place is very popular in Milpitas so be ready to wait a min or two...it will be worth it. Our favorites are the following: Dragon roll Garlic edamame Hopyard roll Lemondrop roll Short rib bento (this visit the ribs were a bit fatty...if you don't like the fat on the meat, skip this one) Milpitas roll

Unagi Don (grilled eel), miso soup
Samantha L.

Popular local Japanese restaurant serving up fresh sushi and seafood! The Sake Wasabi Don had salmon sashimi, fresh and delicious. The Unagi Don had grilled eel with nice charred bits and a sweet glaze on top. The rice underneath was sushi rice, mixed with vinegar and sugar. Perfectly chewy texture. Amazing quality and thick slices of fish with lots of extra rice. We enjoyed having the side items that came with our order - radish sprouts, sliced yellow onions, pickled radishes, and tamagoyaki (rolled omelette). The juicy lemon slices provided nice pops of brightness over them. Both came with miso soups that very hot and soothing. Fast service even with their busy environment. For dine in, you can sit at the sushi bar or regular tables. Ordering online was easy and our food was ready for pickup upon arrival. Reasonable prices with generous portions, we were stuffed afterwards. Want to try their huge bentos in the future!

I Visited recently again. Still is one of the best places for sushi I've tasted! Service is fast and everyone is super nice.

Chirashi Combo A - tuna,scallop,sake,hamachi,kanpachi

Great value sushi joint in Milpitas nearby the library. Hearty portion sizes, pretty good quality fish, and affordable prices! I think it's decent for sit down too but there were LOTSSS of people ordering takeout and they have online only order variants of the menu for that It's more of a homey local / mom and pop style place rather than elegant fine dining, but still a nice dining experience. The sashimi cuts were quite thick, and while some bits of the kanpachi were slightly stringy I really appreciated how hearty the portion sizes were! I know fish quality varies but for the sashimi combo A I thought (in order) : tuna -- scallop -- salmon ---------- hamachi -- kanpachi! The star of dinner though was the fried soft shell crab!! It was done really well, the breading was really flavorful and added a nice grit / bite! Favorite dish !

Per recommendation from some friends, I came here on a weekend right before it opened, there was already a line. We got seated pretty quickly. There's a lot of staff making the sushi, and orders came out within 5 minutes. We ordered the: Nigiri Combo Appetizer B: it comes with hamachi (yellowtail), sake (salmon), chutoro (tuna) - 2 pieces each. The fish was good quality, really like the chutoro the best. The Booty Call Roll (4 large pieces) : there was a lot going on in this roll, really big as well for a single piece. It came with spicy tuna, unagi, fried shrimp, avocado, fish eggs, a variety of sauces and macadamia nut. Overall it was fine, I prefer smaller rolls. The Storm Bringer Roll (8 pieces) : recommended by the wait staff, it came with soft shell crab, crab roll, topped with yellowtail, salmon, unagi, avocado, unagi sauce and fish eggs. Very good sushi roll. Overall, pretty good for price in terms of quality and portions. Will definitely be back again.

Sen Dai Sushi Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Sen Dai Sushi

Will you be open for takeout during dinner time on 11/26/2022?

Do they have kids menu?

I don't think so. I have seen parents share dishes with their kids.

Have they opened indoor dining?

Yes, although it's a small number of tables.

Dine in available?

We dined in a month ago.

Dine-in available? The website says no.

I believe it is - but I would call the restaurant to double check because that can change!

Is dine-in available as of today 7/19/2021?

Yes!

Any no rice sushi on the menu that can be ordered?

They have sashimi platters if that's something you're interested in

Is dine in option available?

No, not available yet. But they have a great fast pick up service with two window's for faster services!

How do I purchase gift cards?

You can purchase gift certificates in the restaurant.

Is there outdoor seating? or only delivery/takeout? thanks.

Only takeout! And it gets very busy on Friday and Saturday night.

Has anyone tried to order on their website, door dash or grub hub? I'm getting an error message. It's not working for a week now.

It works as of today.

Are they closed? This is my Friday night fix but cannot seem to reach them via phone or doordash?

They accept take-out orders.

Do they have vegan sushi options?

is this really a question???

Happy hour specials?

Not at this place :(

What dressing do they use on their salads? It tastes great!

It is the usual Japanese style dressing based on ginger. You can actually get bottles of them at Japanese mart like Mitsuwa.

Do they serve oystershooter drinks here?

No oyster shooters here.

Do they have all you can eat?

Sadly, no.

Sen Dai or Satomi?

Sen Dai!

Has anybody dined here with a shellfish allergy? Are they good about not cross-contaminating?

I feel like I'm being gaslit reading everyone else's reviews.. I was so excited to try Ichika but…read moreit's ended up being the worst omakase experience I've had by far. And I've tried a fair share of omakase places. The prix fixe 9 course meal was $150 per person, and I personally feel the quality of the ingredients and overall seasoning of the dishes did not meet that price point. It was already a rough start with the appetizers. I'm also a texture person so maybe someone else would like these but I was not a fan of the vegetable jelly nor the goopy seaweed salad. Had I known this prior to dining I don't think I would have wanted to go with the omakase menu. The chawanmushi was very underseasoned and missing salt completely. On the menu it says it has crab in it but the only crab meat you get with it comes in a tiny claw that you have no way of digging out The nigiri, which I was most excited for, fell VERY flat. The fish wasn't particularly fresh and I found a bone in my nigiri. (??) The rice was also really dry and mushy. I was genuinely so disappointed at this. Miso sea bass was overly sweet which didn't really work with how fatty the fish was. It was too much. Also found more bones in the miso sea bass but that's less gobsmacking than finding it in your nigiri. The dessert, matcha tiramisu, just tasted like straight up cream and not sweet at all. I don't have a sweet tooth by any means but this could've used sugar. I didn't feel very good eating this, the fattiness of the cream plus not having any flavor ruined it for me :( Overall, the main theme is just the lack of seasoning in any of the dishes plus ingredients not being fresh. I know it's Kaiseki style, but the dishes also seemed very uninspired and plating was kinda messy. When I looked closely, the plates weren't clean and there were marks.. Maybe I'm being nitpicky but at a price point like this, the details matter. Word of advice, if you live in South Bay and want omakase, just take your $ and drive an hour up to SF. My bf took me here to celebrate our anniversary and I feel awful about how bad it was.. +1 star for the friendly service.

I dare to say that Amami has the best, freshest, most tasteful fish in the east bay area. I have come out of my way to take my friends and family here. The sushi shokunin truly are masterful and their care and diligence in creating a delicious dish is obvious. The fish is chilled, well handled, and cut intentionally. Here, I finally understand sushi. It's not just rice and fish slapped into a wrap. The umami oceanic seaweed blends with the perfectly sweet and slightly tangy rice, and compliments the creamy, clean and vibrant fish. Add a drop of wasabi and soy sauce and a touch of ginger, and together it creates a beautiful art form, perfectly balanced. Truly blown away every time I am here. And can you imagine - it doesn't break the bank. Take someone you care for here, you won't be disappointed. Oishii.

It wasn't terrible, but it was far from great. I'd say the quality was about what I'd expect from a mediocre all you can eat sushi restaurant rather than a place serving individual rolls.
