Immediately upon being sat down near the window we noticed gnats surrounding our tortilla chips and salsa bowls. There were quite a few. We asked to move and were seated near the bar. No one ever really acknowledged our reason for moving but brought our drinks to the new table. A few minutes later gnats were in our salsa and in my boyfriend's drink. (The drinks were also unusually sour!) we had already ordered food so I got up and asked the waitress if she could remove his drink and bring our food to go due to the unbearable gnats. I have been coming to Senor Bean for years and every time I am downtown I always want to take people out to lunch there. Food is great, I love the chicken fajitas but the flautas and the carnitas are good too. Chips and salsa are good and the queso is top notch as well. If I am feeling fancy I'll get a Mexican coke. I usually go for lunch when I work downtown and lately it has been packed by noon. I am glad business has picked back up. Tonight we chose this establishment meant for a group function based on the amazing reviews. Boy, were we disappointed. The service was poor. We ordered off the menu and they said that they didn't have part of one item on the menu available. We asked if they were willing to reduce the price in order to deliver part of the meal. The wait staff did not understand. My wife spoke with the manager to try and get a better understanding and he was absolutely a jerk. We didn't order anything because of their rude approach to customer service. We would have left if we weren't there in a large group. I am a chick who loves a good deal and hence how my relationship with Senor bean came to be. Groupon lead me to this spot which I had driven by numerous times, it's the place down the street from Sheraton with the bean on the side of the building, however I had never stopped at due mostly to parking (I'm not a fan of paying to park). Anyways, we decided to go here for date night however what we didn't know was that the cheerleading competition was in town and most of the families were staying down the street at the Sheraton, so this place was crowded when we walked in at 7pm. However after standing in the door for a few minutes we were greeted and seated and told that she would be right back with waters and chips. Our server, Hope, was a gem. Even with all the chaos, she stayed on top of things. When she came back with the chips and warm salsa (which was delicious) we went ahead and place our drink orders (blackberry margaritas, the drink of the month) as well as our appetizer and food order. The queso came to the table with some garnishments on the side in which you can dress up your queso any way you like. The cheese was thick and creamy however it made me thinking it has velvetta in it but the way it thickened up midway. The drinks were strong but not too strong and tasted great. While waiting for our food, we asked Hope for more chips & salsa in which she came to the table with a small pot of hot salsa to refill our bowls. The meals we ordered came out and although we had to wait (pesky cheerleaders!) however the food was well worth the wait. The fajitas were tender, the rice was well seasoned, my mate got the street tacos and the brisket was delicious. Overall we both agreed that we had just had a great meal and will be back to this little spot however hopefully next time there won't be an event happening to delay our meal. read more

Still, they had their lunch specials on the menu and I went with a simple chicken fajita plate. Chips were good and the salsa was tasty and medium thick. A little more drippy than my usual preference. All the usual goodies arrived with the fajitas. Rice, beans, chicken mixed with onions and pepper on a sizzling metal plate, plus a side dish with pico and guacamole. Three flour tortillas were good, but I kinda wanted a fifth. We came for a quick lunch. They were completely slammed. They didn't have an official host or host stand, so when we walked in we just stood in the doorway looking like idiots, as did every group that came after us. The food took a while to come out, so while we waited we chowed down on the chips and salsa. The salsa is served warm, which is an interesting twist, but unfortunately not one I liked. The servers kept our water glasses full and didn't let the chip bowl get half-empty before refilling. Had a really good experience here the other night! I had the beef fajitas and my fiancé had their nachos and both were really tasty . We did not leave hungry. We also had the Caliente Queso with chicken as a starter which was our favorite part of the meal. We got really good service. I thought the price was very reasonable and inexpensive. It felt like a family was running the restaurant instead of like a big corporate feeling. I say that being a positive and just felt cozy and welcomed there. The only reason I came here is because I didn't want to pay for parking at the Plaza of the Americas. I needed something to occupy my time till 6pm and there was Señor Bean. Right before I became confused about whether I should seat myself or wait to be seated, a friendly woman came out and greeted me. This was a great choice for a quick pick me up. For food we ordered two beef quesadillas which are typically skimpy at other places. Not here, they load it up and give you a really good portion for your buck. The salsa was a fresh salsa with a slight hint of spice. So salsa is safe for those with a low tolerance for heat haha. Was kinda disappointed because it was not what I expected "brisket" to be.. the brisket here is more like a slow roast carnita meat falling off the bone style. This place is a great option for anyone working near Bryan Tower / Plaza of the Americas in Downtown Dallas craving some Tex Mex. Or anyone staying in the Sheraton / Marriott that wants to get away from hotel food. The kind of small indie restaurant foodies will likely rave about to friends. I've only been one time, but was really impressed. The salsa is fantastic - a rich red arbol chile sauce served warm. It was so good I had to give their queso a try as well and wasn't disappointed. Unlike the bland stuff you'll often find elsewhere (cough J. Pepe's), it has a unique flavor that I'm guessing came from the generous use of cilantro. It's great by itself, but I found mixing in a bit of the salsa balanced out the cilantro and made it even better. As did mixing in the side of pico de gallo that comes with it. The street vendor-style tacos I ordered were perfect - tender, flavorful marinaded steak surrounded by two small corn tortillas with a side of diced onions and cilantro. They include some molcajete sause that spiced things up nicely. And the beans and rice were spot on. The inside is nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Service was excellent. I don't think my iced tea ever made it past half full. And there's free wifi, perfect for leisurely surfing or doing a business lunch. I'm really looking forward to going back. It's obvious these folks know what they're doing, and I can't wait to try more of what's on the menu. Update 1/4/2013: I've been back a couple more times, and haven't been disappointed. I continue to eat here on nearly a weekly basis, most recently on 9/8 and 9/19. As I try to eat a little healthier I have changed from the regular rice and beans to all vegetables. They give me a significant helping of peppers, onions, and tomatoes. I am completely thrilled with the results. They taste fantastic, and they are very filling! I continue to bring people each time for meetings and brain storming sessions. The price and value are hard to beat. The service continues to be second to none.
