Great take on San Angelo favorites. To start I had the Jalapeño popper egg roll and that was very tasty. Next time I will get the pork. For the main course, I had the steak and shrimp. This place needs some more love from locals--it's run by a passionate business owner and the food is really delicious! It's a simple menu: mostly just your choice of meats and sauce. We tried steak and fried rice with the regular sauce and chicken and fried rice with spicy sauce. Both were seriously good! For a treat we also tried the cheesecake egg rolls and those were like a cross between sopapillas and a crepe. Our last night in San Angelo, (just left the movie theater) we wanted a light dinner, Señor Changs was in close proximity so we thought we would check it out. Upon entrance noticed it was casual dining and very clean. As I looked at the menu board I got concerned we would need to go elsewhere. (I'm a Vegetarian, the rest of my family is not-I can almost always find something). There was nothing. We were the only customers in the entrance, the bubbly young lady at the register asked if she could help, I replied "just curious if you have any vegetarian options?" She replied that I could get a plate of fried rice with vegetables. Perfect! Let me tell you, probably the best fried rice and sautéed vegetables I have ever had!!! My sons food, equally delicious!! Great music, Diet Dr Pepper, George Strait music, delicious food and excellent service (we were approached a couple times to see if the food was good if they could get us anything else, mind you this is a very casual joint)!!! Señor Changs brings something else to the table. The combination of hibachi and Mexican is unlike anywhere else. They have some of the best friend rice I've ever had, and we've lived all over. Their spicy steak is to die for, and something that will leave you wanting more no matter how full you are. The fajita egg rolls are perfect in every way. We picked up food from there for the first time since they've moved out of the food truck, and the food was okay. I remember REALLY loving their fajita eggrolls, so I was excited to get some of those. Unfortunately, they were really lacking flavor that day. The meat was so bland that I ended up having to add salt to them. Not even the dipping sauce they provide with it was able to make them taste better. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed. My husband got the steak and chicken. He said the chicken was really good, but the steak was a bit dry and tough. He didn't even want to give it to our 2 year old, for fear she might not be able to chew it up. There is a chance that could be fixed if we asked for it to be cooked a bit less when ordering though. The rice was great. And I liked the salad, although not the house dressing they put on it. I ended up putting the ginger sauce they gave us on the salad and ate it like that. That was delicious! Lastly, I was FINALLY able to try their cheesecake eggrolls. I tried to get some when they were at a food truck festival a year or so ago, but after waiting in line for over 30 min, were told they had sold out. I've heard people say how good they are, so I had really been wanting to give them a try. The eggrolls themselves are not too bad. They are covered in sugar and cinnamon. They taste ok plain, but I was really looking forward to the strawberry dipping sauce. Now, I don't know if this is something they make themselves, or get premade, but it was WAY too sweet for me. And honestly, it didn't taste like strawberry at all. Atleast not like real strawberries. I barely dipped an itty bitty corner into it, and even that tasted too sweet. And trust me when I say, things are not usually too sweet for me. I ended up having to eat them plain. If that dipping sauce would've been actual strawberries blended up into a sauce, it would make it 100 times better. But that's just my personal preference. I know a lot of people like these things, but they just weren't for me, and that is why. All in all, it's not a bad place to get food. Half of what we got was good, the other half was ehhh. I'd recommend it if you are in a hurry, or don't want to cook, and want something other than a burger or fried chicken. And since we picked it up, I can't comment to the service, but so many reviewers saying how awesome they are, can't be wrong! read more
