This review has been a long time coming, only for the fact that I've been coming to Sensa for 8 and a half years. I first came to Sensa after a disastrous appointment at another salon down the street. I noticed their "Walk Ins Welcome" sign and well...walked in! They didn't have anyone available at the time, but made an appointment for me with Alicia, the owner. The first time I met her, I was hooked. She listens, she's patient, she's creative, she's sympathetic. Alicia's talent has turned me into a brunette, a redhead and a blonde. She's also a wizard with a pair of scissors. After 8 and half years of being in her chair, she's become like family. And the salon has felt like home. I cannot recommend Sensa enough if you're looking for a salon that has a welcoming and fresh vibe, ridiculously talented stylists, and it's a near guarantee that you're going to walk out of the salon feeling like the best version of yourself. read more

Love the location of this salon. Parking on the street can be limited, so allow yourself some time to ensure you make your appointment. There is a garage that's more expensive, but still close to the salon. I just got a standard trim with wash and dry. I also got the b3 treatment. I left the salon with my hair feeling silky smooth. Typically the smoothness is gone, but my stylist was correct- he said the treatment would last about 20 washes and it did. My hair feels extremely healthy and I can't wait to go back for a trim and possible some balayage or highlights! The stylists seem knowledgeable about product suggestions. I told my stylist about certain products I've used before and didn't like - he was able to make excellent recommendations for me. I'm extremely satisfied with the shampoo and conditioner I bought! I will say, I was a little bummed about the pricing of the hand- tied extensions, they seemed overly priced compared to other places. However, this wouldn't deter me from coming here for my cuts and color. read more

I've had lash extensions for all of... Three and a half hours, and I will scream from the rooftops HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM! I was recommended Sensa Salon by Cara, the Yelp Seattle CM. If you've met Cara, you know her lashes are amazing and you know she's probably on point with what she's talking about. So, I went for it. At first glance, walking into this salon makes me feel like one of the cool kids. Such an industrial feel in this salon. And all of the employees are effortlessly pretty and perfect, so there's that, too. I showed up way early but it was okay. I got to experience the atmosphere - everybody was super nice to me and I was offered coffee/water/etc. I also heard that they have WINE AND BEER WHEN YOU'RE WAITING. When I'm not pregnant anymore, you know I'm gonna be alllll over dat. I was taken back to the treatment room by Anthea promptly at noon. She explained how the process would go and we were started pretty soon after that. The process is super relaxing and I'll even admit, I almost dozed off a few times. If it wasn't for my son throwing a party in my stomach, I would have fallen asleep for sure. For a full set it took us about 1.5 hours, but I knew it'd be a while. Anthea gave me tons of tips on how to take care of my new lashes as well as a lash brush to take care of them throughout the day. I'd without a doubt recommend Anthea, too. She's very genuine and makes you feel comfortable in her presence. When all was said and done, the service itself was $185. I know, it sounds like a LOT and I'm not usually one of the girls who would spend a lot of money on something like this... But I 100% recommend it and without a doubt believe it's worth the money! Kelly is an absolute hair master. I have had amazing stylists in the past but she is on an entirely different level. I wanted to have "celebrity" hair and she gave me that. We went with hair extensions and a gorgeous balayage. I was worried about color matching and making sure the extensions blended with my natural hair. I can say with 100% confidence that my extensions are undetectable. People are truly shocked when I tell them I have extensions. My grow out looks intentional and allows me to visit her every 10 weeks. She is a master stylist that takes her craft seriously. She listens and to her clients and truly works her magic. I had an appointment with Lea today and it was excellent. I came for a blowout and conditioning treatment, I have naturally curly hair and wear 3 rows of hand tied extensions so it's a lot. I was super impressed to get an appointment on such short notice and Lea was wonderful to work with. She also provides extension services so she didn't seem phased by all the hair I had which was a relief. Aside from the service being great the salon itself was beautiful and clean. 10/10 will be back! read more

I've been seeing Jayde for less than a year now, but my experience has been 10/10 so far :) I was looking for a hairstylist in the area and was finding it hard to just pick someone. I somehow stumbled upon Jayde's Instagram and quickly knew that she was who I wanted to book with! The first time I went in, Jayde sat down with me to get to know me and my hair history a little bit more. She was extremely welcoming and so easy to talk to -- she made me feel comfortable right away. I screenshotted some pics from Pinterest for inspiration, and we decided on which color and style would fit me best. I got a partial balayage and a cut, and it turned out amazing. I had literally never loved my hair so much. I went back in a couple of months later for a gloss and a trim. I'd never gotten a gloss before, but it freshened up my color a bit until my next actual coloring appointment. I went back this week for my second partial balayage. Before I get into it, I want to say that my color was growing out so beautifully -- even after 6 months! Anyway, last time I saw Jayde, we talked about using Hailey Bieber's hair as inspo, and that's what we ended up doing! I brought in a few pictures, and Jayde helped me choose which one would suit me best. I loveeee the result. It's different than anything I've ever had, but looks totally natural and really great. Jayde is super knowledgeable and always happy to answer any of my hair questions. She's also super responsive on her Instagram, which is amazing and a great way to connect with her and ask any questions. She has recommended styling tools and products to me, and I've loved them all. She has also given me great restaurant recommendations (namely The Market in Edmonds... yum) and Netflix recommendations. I always enjoy chatting with her during my appointment. There will always be glitches with pretty much any service, how you make it right defines your quality. Thank you. PREVIOUS REVIEW - Ok so I've been to Sensa for 4-5 times over the course of four years and each time I had a different stylist. Overall I was happy with the price / performance ratio so I kept coming back. Yesterday I went in for a balayage and cut and just didn't feel like I received a good service. Still, I had decided to not be a high maintenance drama queen and "nip it in the bud" until I saw what you are seeing on the photo this morning. Yep, those are uncut strands hanging out of my new hair, which cost me $250+. I've been going to hair dressers for pretty much 18 years at this point and this is the first time I'm seeing something like this. Outside of this epic fail, my service overall felt like I was being "manhandled" with my hair and head constantly getting pulled during the balayage and the wash. I also had to sit through 3.5 hours of service without a glass or bottle of water. Yeah I understand that you are no longer serving tap water to customers but it's really not that difficult to buy a case of bottled water from costco and hand them out. If my nail salon can do it for a 40 minute manicure session, so can you. I don't think I will be going back. read more

I wish I had known years ago that curly hair needs different kind of care: unique way to cut so it grows out better and so that the curls don't get weighed down, that they are inherently drier than straight hair so need to be moisturized more (now I'm on the co-wash wagon!). I've been seeing Alicia at Sensa Salon now for a couple of years and I love that even though I'm terrible at being consistent in going in for cuts - my hair grows out so well and my curls keep the bounce and don't get stringy And, by some sort of magic that I do not understand, it actually still looks really good when straightened! (Which I never have the patience to do so I always have Alicia do it ) So if you're in need of some hair rejuvenation, definitely check them out!! read more

I have tried multiple salons in Seattle over the years and always felt so out of place, and like I wasn't being listened too, and honestly not ever loving my hair... in comes SENSA! From day one they greeted me right away with open arms, offered me wine, and made me feel at home. I've gotten balayages with Kelly and Whitney multiple times and they both listened to my concerns, and helped me think of new ideas to freshen up my look. Don't ever come here for a men's haircut. It was hands-down one of the worst haircuts I've ever had in my entire life and I'm not even joking. My girlfriend who's never cut her hair in her entire life did a better job of cutting my hair during quarantine than the person cutting my hair here. He even looked at me halfway to the haircut and said I'm really sorry about this I know it's not at all what you asked for. The cut was terribly uneven and choppy and not at all like the picture I showed him. he said typically the owner cut men's hair and that he was just filling in. That's not really a great thing to tell someone AFTER they're already getting a haircut by you. The guy was absolutely nice enough and the staff were all nice but I'm just judging this purely on the end product - a mens haircut - which was not good at all. read more

They have done a great job reacting to the pandemic and have set up their space in a way that makes you feel safe, yet still provides exceptional, "worth it" service. The space is trendy and clean. The people are kind and helpful. Minnie is easily the best hairstylist I've had in my life -- I'm almost hesitant to write this review and add to the appointment competition! I've wanted bangs for years, but never felt confident enough with a stylist to pull the trigger. I brought some inspo pics and she completely nailed it. I'm hooked on the bang train now. I've been getting cut and balayage done by Tupper for while now, and I am always obsessed with my hair when I leave his chair! During my last visit, we had a great morning chatting about all the Netflix and Disney+ we're bingeing these days, bumped along to some good music, laughed a bunch - and I walked out of Sensa feeling like a bronzed goddess. He always makes my hair look gorgeous and naturally dimensional (on video calls this week, a coworker said "you hair has gotten lighter!" as if I've been outside in the sun and not cooped up in my apartment for months ha!). Tupper asks about my routine and future hair plans to make sure that his styling will work with my lifestyle and desired look. I've had stylists elsewhere in the past that insisted on rigid schedules for when to come back - I appreciate that Tupper works with my timeline, which helps me budget and honestly makes me more comfortable coming back. I've never left a review but I feel like I should warn people who want to book but live far away. I booked a full balayage online for an appointment two weeks out. A week before, they texted me asking for current/inspo pics of my hair and color history. I sent that in. They proceeded to tell me I needed to come in for a test strand because I had previously box-dyed my hair. Never been asked to do this but I do understand the concept so I explained I lived over an hour away and asked if I needed to come in on a separate day for this, they said yes. I reluctantly booked my appointment for a couple days out for this quick test strand. Well that did not happen- my appointment got cancelled a day before. Ok great whatever, I thought I was clear of having to come in but NOPE. Throughout the week of my booked appt. I kept getting harassed with texts and calls saying I need to reschedule the test strand or my original appt will be cancelled. I finally broke and sent them a message out of frustration asking how they expect me to make time to come in for a 30 min appt. And drive two hours total while I'm working?? She explained this was a new policy but the receptionist understood my position and said I could come in for the booked appt. Without it but basically I could experience some wonky results because they didn't do a test strand. At that point I didn't feel comfortable so I ended up cancelling altogether. My point is THEY DO NOT LIST THIS "new policy" ANYWHERE ON THEIR WEBSITE!!!! I wouldn't have booked somewhere so far away in a major city if I knew I would have to come twice in one week. Please please please make a disclaimer before someone books a balayage with your salon. It does not say a consult is required for a balayage or anything about needing a test strand if you have color history!!! Just be up front with your customers. read more

I really don't want to do this. I went in for my first ever Deva Cut. I've been growing out a pixie cut and my 2c/3a curls/waves started blossoming. I loved my pixie cut but I've been really digging this new style and length. It had been 3 months since my last hair cut (a long time if you're used to pixie length hair) so I decided to try a Deva Cut to help encourage the curls and control the shape a bit. Unfortunately my hair is actually less even and less curly now despite the fact that it was cut dry. It's such a weird awkward length - kind of that awkward pixie grow out length but with a blunt and fluffy bob edge. I was actually a few months past the awkward grow out phase but I feel like I'm back now but with less shape. I feel like I look like my mom meets Madeline.
