A 5 star review doesn't happen very often. My experience at Senti last night hit all the high notes from introduction to finale. The Lawrenceville restaurant is contemporary in decor and the art colorful and abstract. There are twelve tables in the main dining room and through a few more could have been squeezed in Senti, keeps the margin between tables comfortable for diners and wait staff. The group dining area opposite the bar entertained 2 large parties. A double sided banquette the length of the room is flanked by comfortable chairs and white linen tables. The ambiance of the room is calm with a minimal noise which is unusual in many restaurants. The cocktail/wine list offers selections from their Enomatic list. A welcome option to sample multiple wines before settling on the pour of choice. From 1 ounce to 5 ounces are your volume options. The beer selection is small, Moretti, Peroni, and an IPA. Welcome, and unusual are 2 non-alcohol cocktails. The My Kingdom for a Horse was refreshing and tart, made upon my request for a smaller amount of honey to be used. Senti's menu is not expansive but offers a nice range of options. Our party enjoyed the Fava bean soup which was vegan. Mussels, tender and excellent, served with grilled bread. Shorts Ribs, Pesto Gnocchi, Branzino served over tender baby carrots and perfect sautéd spinach, and Short ribs over polenta. Senti is a winner in the Pittsburgh dining scene with parking directly across the street from the restaurant is an added benefit. 2nd time I've been to this Italian restaurant and it again, passed all expectations. A gorgeous wine list with a smart waitress who was knowledgeable and understood what we wanted. Great recommendations. The pasta e Fagioli appetizer was EXCEPTIONAL. Dang it was so good I could have had another bowl for my entree. Asparagus pasta was light and fluffy - with delicate hint of lemon butter. Sage butter ravioli was the same way - so deftly prepared in a much lighter way - not heavy or dense and absolutely delicious! I only wish I could have had a bite of everything in the menu. what a difference a day makes! after the last dinner, we weren't sure about going back, but the menu & wines coaxed us back! barsotti was doing the wines, & 2 of them were going to be primitivos. apparently we weren't the only 1's that complained. this time, the whole restaurant was open, & everyone got their own tables. & their own food! all i can say is-WHAT A MEAL! it was spectacular, the best 1 yet! bravo franco, chef & staff! everyone was on their a game. 1st course-insalata con granchio-jumbo lump crab, avocado, tomato, basil, red onion, chili oil. served with a 2021 alberto longo la fossette falanghina. this salad was the bomb! i could've eaten that for my dinner! huge pieces of crab! the wine was a white. if you know us, we're reddies! but this stuff, i could drink that during a long, hot summer day! smooth, crisp. 2nd course-cavatelli con ragu di agnello-cavatelli, lamb ragu, fesh mint. served with a 2019 fabiana kalema primitivo salento. the ragu was delicious. the cavatelli was made so nicely, i thought they were made by hand! the wine had a deep cherry, sort of musty taste. mmmm. 3rd course-filetto di manzo-filet mignon, red wine demi glace, multicolor carrots, duck fat confit potatoes. served with a 2019 rosa del golfo primtivo. the filets were perfectly rare. the demiglace was spot on. & confit potatoes! loved! the wine was even better than the 1 before! finally, 4th course, dessert! a flourless chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, berries. served with a 2019 rosa del golfo negroamaro. both were the perfect finish to the meal! we really do love this place! follow them & come to a wine dinner sometime! i think you'll be satisfied! read more

I went to Senti a couple months ago to celebrate a friend's special occasion. I was in charge of selecting the restaurant and we knew we wanted Italian food and I was immediately drawn to Senti by the promise of handmade pasta. I personally didn't care for the atmosphere, it almost felt like a cafe in an art gallery, but my friend really liked that vibe and it was her special day so it worked out perfectly. I had done some research and saw previous photos of the lasagna and knew immediately that I would be ordering that dish without needing to look at the menu. It did not disappoint! They promised handmade lasagna and it definitely looked and tasted that way to me. The meat sauce was rich and flavorful, it had the perfect amount of bechamel and the pasta layers were delicate but able to hold the weight of the sauce. This restaurant is a great choice for special occasion dining. Beautiful ambience and they accept reservations and seem to do a very good job of appropriate scheduling. I ordered salmon which was perfectly cooked, and my daughter ordered the spaghetti pomodoro which was simple and classic. The chocolate bread budding dessert was also amazing- great experience, did not disappoint! Given that fast food value meals today are coming in around $12-13, the pricing for this quality of the food was excellent. I dined here on a Tuesday and there were only a couple of tables booked, which was fine by me. Krista, my waitress was very nice and attentive. The owner was also there and he was very nice and approachable. I love when the owner or GM personally stops at each table to make sure you are enjoying your time. I dined on the branzino that was served with greens and beans. It was a very light dish and was served without the head, which is my preference. For dessert, I had the chocolate bread pudding and it was very good, but really rich. Senti is known for their homemade pasta and I will definitely be back to try a signature dish. read more

I've been to Senti a few times. It errs on the expensive side but time and time again the food proves to be worth the price. They serve complimentary bread with butter. I personally like the saltiness of the bread. I've had a few salads, though the menu has changed/morphed a few times since their opening. I particularly enjoyed the watermelon salad on their Nuovo menu; it has ricotta salata, pistachio, and a soy dressing and is soooooo tasty. I've ordered the cheese plate on a few visits as well. I've never received the same cheeses on consecutive visits and they are usually paired with accoutrements like jam, honey, and garlic. I like that you can have a new experience every visit. Some standout main dishes are the gnocchi and the lasagna. I am a huge proponent of bechamel on lasagna and they've nailed it. Their bartender is always mixing up new drinks along with some classics. I love this restaurant and I'm so happy I got to come in while in town for the holidays. I made a reservation on OpenTable for 6:30p on a Thursday, but I was surprised to see how empty it was. It was also raining, so I'm sure people weren't wanting to go out. I came with a group of six and got seated right away. They are very helpful when it comes to selecting wine, and I ended up getting two glasses of their red blend because it was so good. Lucky for me I always go to restaurants with friends and family that want to share everything so I was able to try a lot of the menu!! The soup of the day was a great choice but not as tasty as I wanted it to be; it was a tomato truffle soup. We also ordered the short rib, which was amazing, and the beet salad. All of the options are fairly small so I highly recommend ordering a bunch of plates and sharing them all. I split the salmon dish and the fettuccine carbonara with my sister. Both were soooo tasty and amazing. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the noodles in the fettuccine were clearly made in-house and so delicious. Our servers were also super friendly and attentive. We parked on the street, which I'm assuming is usually packed since Lawrenceville is becoming a hot spot in Pittsburgh, so plan accordingly when making dinner plans at Senti! read more

Wonderful neighborhood Italian. Service is excellent and food is quite good. At my last visit I had the fried artichokes to start and my wife had the burrata. These were superb especially with a nice rosé. For the entree my wife had fettuccini with shrimp and porchetta and I had the pork chop. These were both well prepared and delicious. We finished with an almond cake with blueberry compote. This was a great way to finish a wonderful meal. All in all at least 4 stars and will definitely remain a top choice for us. read more

My husband and I came here for dinner. Thought this would be a perfect place for his sisters surprise 60th birthday party. We had shown her the menu and she said "I want to go to this place". Franco worked with us to ensure that every detail was perfect. The private dining room was accommodating for the 25 people. Could hold up to 30 to 35 people. We had our own bartender and she was awesome. We were able to have a limited menu. Which was very nice because everyone was able to pick their own dish. We also had appetizers. We did bring in our own cake. But I can tell you, that the tiramisu is to die for. Great place for date night or a casual night. And it was a wonderful place for a surprise birthday party. Since we came here in January for my boyfriend's birthday and loved it so much, I chose it as my own birthday dinner! Over 6 months after my boyfriend's birthday, we came back for my August birthday. We had Marissa as a server again and she remembered us without even prompting! I was extremely impressed by that--as I stated in my previous review, she was amazing (again). We both got the Rucola salad (Arugula, Sliced Pear, Shaved Parmiggiano, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Balsamic Vinegar), which was a great size and delicious. The only suggestion I would give is for a little bit more pear given the large amount of Arugula. For our next courses, my boyfriend ordered the spaghetti which he enjoyed. However, it was nothing compared to my gnocchi! Their gnocchi of the day was squash and cherry tomatoes in a white wine butter sauce. PHENOMENAL! I then ordered the filet mignon for my main course. It was delicious and I loved the salt on top. However, given that I ordered an arugula salad before, I wish I had asked for a different side than the arugula salad that came with it. I ordered the chocolate bread pudding for dessert and of course it came out with a candle! When Marissa brought our check, she gave us two complimentary mini shots of a new chamomile liqueur to try. Nice atmosphere with two small dining rooms with white table clothes and a small bar. Some interesting wines on the wine list with a few, mostly Italian wines available by 1 oz, 3. oz, 5 oz or a large * oz (I think); with wines by the glass and bottle. Our waitress was a cold wet dish rag. We started with Piatto di Formaggi - Cheese plate that had 3 tasty cheeses with a pesto sauce and another and some cured meat (of course I cannot remember) that were all very good and a nice combination of different tastes. My Osso Buco was small but very good. One person at our table had the Gnocchi in sauce that he said was very good. Another person had the Fitetto di Funghi - mushroom steak and was disappointed in the taste and dryness but lovere the broccolini and sweet potato mix that was under the mushroom steak. Senti: A good, but forgettable meal. A friend had been wanting to try this place and I am always down for something new so was excited to check it out. Most reviews are correct in that the place does feel a bit like a hotel lobby, but to its defense it does feel like a swanky NYC sushi restaurant, which I was totally comfortable with. The menu looked interesting, but it was the specials that sung to us during our visit. Ordering the Bronzino and the salmon, we also wanted to try a mix side dishes: the bread pudding and fried polenta. We were both pleasantly surprised by both but were quickly distracted with dessert. The best part of our meal was absolutely the tiramisu. It's honestly the only part I remember because I remember thinking it was the perfect balance of having a coffee flavor with chocolate. I am not sure if I would classify Senti as an authentic Italian food and wine restaurant based off my experience. The restaurant is very modern and offers a certain element of fine dining to Lawrenceville (and has offstreet parking across the street which is a blessing), but doesn't appear as standalone Italian. The restaurant is on the smaller side with about 15 tables and a bar so I would recommend a reservation regardless of the day of the week. The drink menu is extensive with about 10 house craft cocktails that rotate, 10 traditional cocktails and a full wine, beer, and liquor menu. I had the heatmiser which was a specialty winter cocktail. The heatmiser was rum based and the heat came with the spice in it. It was delicious and warmed your chest which gave it an appropriate name and was great for the cold winter months. I split the cheese plate which was a nice sample of three cheeses and selected fruits and jams for each cheese. The cheese plate also came with a serving of prosciutto. I understand that the plate varies on a daily basis, but was a nice item to split amongst a party of 4 or 5. While the cheese plate came with a dried bread-like cracker, it was also served with the house bread which was crusted in salt and rosemary. Generally I wouldn't try to fill up too much on bread, but it was delicious and hard to stop eating! I did not order any of the sides but did enjoy the gnocchi of the day and tried the salmon. I noticed that serving sizes seemed to vary based on the entree ordered with the gnocchi being a nice standard portion, the short rib being a pretty good sized piece of nice meat with sides, while the salmon was a smaller serving about 0.3 lbs. The gnocchi of the day was served with brisket, tomato, and sliced kalamata olives and had a great combination of each. The olives provided some savory flavor to the sweeter tomato and the sauce was a subtle glaze. The gnocchi was very good and I would recommend ordering off the pasta section of the menu if that is the specialty of the restaurant. My wife had the salmon and while it was good, she ordered it at the chefs recommended temperature and had some trouble later that evening. read more

Although the restaurant might be better described as 'italian-american', we appreciated the food and it was definitely worth what we paid for. However, I can not say anything about the original prices. I would have loved to try the wine as their selection is wide. The salad was rich in flavor, the pappardelle were not memorable but good, and the tiramisu was definitely a happy ending to our dinner, second only to Enrico Biscotti's one. read more

We had a mixup with other dinner reservations and we were looking for a restaurant to accommodate the 6 person party. We walked into Senti and the hostess had a nervous but welcoming look on her face, the restaurant was booked. After she stepped away she returned and allowed us to sit in the bar area lounge and order dinner. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were perfect. I ordered the mushroom steak, it came with broccoli and sweet potatoes. Food was Super flavorful and the wait staff was very kind and accommodating. It was my favorite meal of the trip. An impromptu girls night out was the goal of the evening...and Senti delivered. Due to schedules we needed to dine a little earlier than normal, and when we arrived at 6:00 we were somewhat suprised that we were the ONLY patrons there at that time. Nonetheless, the hostess greeted us happily and seated us in the beautiful dining room. Within 30 minutes or so there were several other tables in use, and the energy was picking up. The decor and seating is beautiful, and comfortable, and the staff could not have been more friendly! We both ordered a great glass of wine, which was accompanied by some amazing housemade foccacia. Yep...we asked for more of that. We decided to stick with the classics and ordered the gnocchi with beef ragu, and spaghetti pomodoro, with a side of broccolini to share. Both dishes were delicious, the pasta was prepared al dente to perfection and that pomodoro sauce....welll....thankfully we had enough foccacia that none of it went to waste! We pushed the envelope a little and decided to try our hand at the desserts. We had the chocolate bread pudding and while it was good, but not anything to write home (or yelp) about. This will be a short update to our first review of Senti. To get straight to the point, the service issue has been resolved if last night's dinner was representative of the place. Service was excellent, and it was the same waitress who severely disappointed us the last time. Now if they would put some California Chardonnay on the wine list they might warrant five stars. I get the point of offering only Italian wines in an Italian restaurant, but the food world should stop being politically correct and come out and admit that Italian whites range from poor to absolutely undrinkable. So, we thought we would be here for a drink or two and dinner, and it ended up being an EVENT. I don't even know where to begin. The sommelier was so extremely helpful in navigating us to the correct wines for our taste and mood, and when we hadn't yet hit "the mark" on the wine of the evening, she continued to put forth excellent choices. As for food, we were welcomed with marinated olives and decided upon two dishes for appetizers: the scallops and the mushrooms, both of which were exquisite, particularly the scallops which were perfectly seared. Our entrees were the steak and pork tenderloin. Here's where we had a bit of a complaint. The steak was AMAZING. Medium rare to a T! Beautifully seasoned and a texture that melted in my mouth, then pair the wine with it and BAM! WOW! The pork was another story. In fact, we questioned if it was the same chef who cooked the steak. Pork tenderloin medallions over a bed of white beans and chorizo and pearl onions. The tenderloin was overdone and dry, and there were supposed to be figs in the bed. There were three slices of figs. This dish wasn't even in the same ballpark as the steak. I would comment on the dessert, but we opted for bubbles. Quite a lovely selection of prosecco and brut, we landed on a brut rose that closed out our evening. My goodness, what an evening. It was an absolute pleasure to chat with the sommelier and the owner, and I sincerely look forward to dining here again. read more

I visited Senti a little while back for my first ever restaurant week experience (I know, crazy) and I have to say it was a great first experience. Looking at the photos on yelp it seemed like a upscale restaurant so we dressed nice for the occasion. I was a little nervous that we may be overdressed because that seems to happen a lot in the Pittsburgh area but thankfully we were dressed appropriately. It's a cute little place that doesn't have a whole lot of tables. It had a very intimate, date night feel to it. I would say its a place better suited for parties of 2. Smaller parties would probably be ok but definitely not large parties. For our courses we got a caprese salad and spaghetti with meatballs and marinara. It sounds boring but it's all authentic italian so it wasn't just your average pasta. I'm not even a huge meatball fan but I really liked these meatballs. I liked that they were smaller meatballs rather than huge meatballs. Something about the smaller ones just tastes better for some reason. As far as the service goes, I was very pleased. They waitress was very attentive and checked on us periodically. She was able to suggest a wine for our meal that we both enjoyed. The owner was also walking around checking on tables to ask how everything was which is always a nice gesture. Arrived on Friday at 7:45 for our reservations. Took about 10 extra minutes to be seated so we appreciated the beautiful art and decor. It was not super busy which was nice- less noise. We ordered the lasagna and salads and were very pleased. Brian, our waiter, was very courteous. The music was at a soft volume and it was mellow jazz very conducive to conversations and dinner. My first time at Senti. I had heard great things so I needed to try for myself. I was not disappointed. First its important to note the description on their website, "authentic Italian food, traditional European service, and modern wining and dining." What stood out to me was the "traditional European service." Translated, that means sloooow. Please dont go to Senti if you are in a hurry or have to be somewhere by a specific time. My wife and I were seated for 2 1/2 hours! We knew that going in and were perfectly fine taking our time to enjoy the experience. The spacing of the food delivery allows you to eat slowly and savor the flavors while enjoying your wine. That's exactly what we did. We started off with the cheese plate. There were 3 cheeses with some crostini, apple & pear slices, a very yummy mostarda and a pool of honey on the bottom of the plate. I couldnt tell you what the cheeses were but there was something like provolone, a soft white cheese and a blue cheese. It was perfect all around from flavors to sizes to pairings. We skipped salads and pastas and went straight to entrees. I got the salmon off the menu and my wife got the special wahoo fish. We also got a side of brocollini. Ive never had salmon cooked so perfectly or with such flavor (from the honey mustard and dill sauce). My wife thoroughly enjoyed her wahoo which came on a bed of farro and spinach. Even the brocollini, which were sauteed with garlic, were cooked to perfection with tons of flavor. For dessert, my wife's tiramisu was probably the best tiramisu Ive ever had. I got the Torta della Stagione which was an apple pie that day, with a side of cinnamon ice cream. The crust on the pie was unbelievable and the ice cream, the perfect complement. I will definitely return and would recommemd trying here at least once. The only negative was the near $200 bill for two of us but it was well worth it. read more
