steamed mini soup dumplings ($11 for 8 pieces)
    Maggie H.

I got an early dinner here and got: - Taiwanese style noodle soup w/ chicken, pork, and shrimp The broth tasted very clear and fresh. We got it with egg noodles. I do like soup noodles but it kinda just tasted regular and homey to me. I don't think there was much meat or veggies in it at all though. - steamed mini soup dumplings There were pretty good too (considering we are in Pittsburgh tbh). It's also at a decent price, sometimes I've seen soup dumplings for more than $15 which is ridiculous. It had some good flavor, and wasn't easy to rip the skin. I think the skin thickness was appropriate, not too thin or too thick. Glad to have some nostalgic and satisfying food around. It came hot but I wish we had the cover so we could delay the food from getting cold too quickly. - fish fillet w/ basil and garlic in stone hot pot I personally think this was the best dish. It was well seasoned and came sizzling hot with a side of rice. It has a tasty sauce that combined with the rice is amazing. Free street parking and plenty of tables inside. I'd get a reservation if you're bringing a lot of people like more than 6.

Everyone is very nice here! Had the braised minced pork over rice which was yummy but I wish there were more of the pork. I know it is a basic dish but so comforting and yummy. The marinated cabbage sort of had a kimchi flavoring. The scallion pancake is soft, crispy and flavorful which was a great texture.

Taiwanese Bistro Cafe 33 delivers comforting, home-style Taiwanese flavors that feel both nostalgic and satisfying. The menu leans into classic dishes done right with Taiwanese authenticity which simple, hearty, and packed with depth. Had to drive all the way to Pittsburgh to have it, just wished we have such amazing restaurant in Omaha The braised pork over rice (滷肉飯) is the definition of comfort food. The pork is slow braised until tender, rich with soy and aromatics, and generously spooned over fluffy white rice. It's savory, slightly sweet, and incredibly comforting exactly how a good lu rou fan should taste. The minced pork over rice is lighter but just as satisfying. Finely minced pork is seasoned well and evenly distributed, making each bite flavorful without being heavy. It's a great option if you want something comforting yet balanced. The short ribs with black pepper sauce stand out with bold, savory heat. The ribs are tender and well seared, coated in a punchy black pepper sauce that's aromatic and slightly spicy, pairing beautifully with rice. The home-style bean curd with black bean sauce rounds out the meal perfectly. The tofu is soft on the inside with a lightly crisp exterior, soaking up the salty savory black bean sauce. It's simple, soulful, and very reminiscent of home-cooked Taiwanese dishes. Overall, Cafe 33 is a great spot for anyone craving authentic Taiwanese comfort food. The dishes feel honest and familiar, making it an easy place to return to when you want something warm, filling, and deeply satisfying.

T6. Beef Stew Noodle Soup, A10. Scallion Pancake with Egg, Dry string beans

Ordered: Dry String Beans, Pancake with Eggs, Beef Noodle Soup Stumbled upon this place on Yelp and added to my list to try when I was in Pittsburgh. We ordered 3 dishes and my favorite one was the dry string beans. It was perfectly salty and savory and so addicting. Every time I would take a bite of something else I would immediately come back to the green beans. It has chili peppers on it, but I didn't think this was spicy. The pancake with eggs was also good but very simple. Nothing much to say about it, but it was a pretty safe choice that didn't disappoint. Last, I was most excited for the beef noodle soup but this soup was not really it. It tasted a lot like instant soup? But everything else was cooked well. The beef was tender and fall apart and the noodles were soft and chewy but I didn't think the broth of the soup was that authentic. Regardless, this was a still a good meal.

Taiwanese Bistro Café 33 was an interesting experience the first time I went. I ordered pick up because I work right around the corner. When I walked in, I got a couple of weird looks from the staff which threw me off a little. I said hello and let them know I was picking up my order, and they responded, but I am very big on warm greetings when you walk into a place, so that moment felt a little awkward. Nothing terrible, just not the best first impression. I had ordered the beef and broccoli with dumplings and the food itself was super good. I really enjoyed it which made me decide to try them again. The second time I went was honestly outstanding. I walked in and the woman at the front (I didn't get her name) was extremely sweet. She greeted me right away and asked if I wanted to sit down. I told her I had a pick up order and she let me know it was still being prepared. While I waited, she offered me a complimentary hot tea which was such a kind gesture. I sat down with my green tea and it was actually really amazing. This time I ordered the beef noodle soup and it was super good as well. It was the perfect comfort food. The inside of the café is small and quaint, really cute and cozy. Overall my first experience was a little off, but the second visit completely made up for it. The food has been consistently delicious and I would definitely go back again.

C10 is overrated imo, wish they had a true spicy crispy chicken tbh. But vibes are always nice and food is still p good.

Pretty solid Taiwanese restaurant! Service was good and very quick, plus they packed up my leftovers really nicely, good takeout spot too. Lunch was pretty quiet, a nice spot to chat for awhile with some warm, homey food! I found the quality, portion, and price to be pretty good, though the broth flavors could be a bit stronger, a little more bland than you'd expect for beef noodle soup. Overall it's a nice spot with good value and will definitely be back!

I got the Taiwanese style stir fried squid (4/5), which was good! I really liked the vegetables, especially the mushrooms. I look forward to trying other options! The service was good and quick (4/5), and the restaurant is clean and nice (4/5). It is not that big inside, so wait times could creep up during peak hours.

My friend and I had an amazing meal! It was very busy on a Saturday evening and they let us have the table usually used for takeout orders. The restaurant was full of families and groups and was energetic and inviting. The service was quick and friendly. We enjoyed all the food we ordered and will definitely come again.

Some of the best Taiwanese food I've had. The space is a bit tight but very efficient. At first it seemed like it took a long time for our server to take our order. People after us were getting their orders taken but when we managed to their attention, our food came out extremely fast. Every dish was unique and very flavorful

The food was quite good, I liked the fried chili chicken (辣子鸡)! The noodles were a little under-seasoned but in general this restaurant is a great place to stop by in Pittsburgh!

I can't believe it's taken me this many years to try this incredible restaurant. The place is suuuuuper small and cramped and it was crowded at 6 pm on a Friday. It took a while for our server to take our order and we had to flag someone down somewhat insistently to get their attention. But thankfully, our food was on our table in less than 10 minutes after we ordered and it was excellent. The garlic basil ginger chicken cooked in the hot stone pot was unreal. I also surprisingly loved the fish cakes. The egg scallion pancake was pretty good too. The wonton Taiwanese soup was not for me but my partner loved it. Overall an amazing meal and relatively cheap considering how much we ordered!

I stopped by here this past Saturday for dinner. My wife, twins, and I were looking for a place to eat while we were at the Waterfront, and we happened to find Taiwanese Bistro 33 somewhat nearby. While I didn't realize it until we pulled up, this was actually the second time I had ordered from here. The online ordering is through VIPCardsPro, which I haven't seen before, but I didn't have any problems and our food was ready when promised. It's located on Shady Avenue near the intersection with Forbes, so parking is at a premium. Because of that, I dropped off my wife and circled the block while she picked up the food. As such, I still haven't seen the inside. For dinner on this evening, I went with the mala chicken while my wife went with the stir-fried squid. There wasn't much of a description on either the online menu or their website, but I assumed the mala chicken would be both spicy and numbing. Due to a couple of necessary stops for my twins on the way home, it took about an hour from pickup until we actually ate. Still, I ended up loving my mala chicken. The chicken itself was juicy and crispy, and I thought the medium spice level I had picked was perfect. It was plenty spicy and numbing without blowing out my palate. I also really enjoyed the garlic in the dish and honestly think this is my favorite spicy and numbing dish in Pittsburgh right now. My wife and daughter both really enjoyed the stir-fried squid as well, and there was nothing left by the end. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I thought the spice and use of Sichuan peppercorns was spot on, and the squid was a clear hit with the women in my family.

We ordered takeout this time, and the overall experience was great. We placed an order online, and everything was very neatly packaged and ready to go when expected. The food even travelled fairly well, such that it was still in good shape after traveling home. The restaurant itself is in a bit of a drab strip mall, but it's generally nicely decorated with colorful signage and a nicely kept interior. In terms of the food, the shrimp spinach dumplings were really nicely done, with lots of flavor and texture. My partner especially enjoyed the barbecue pork bao, which were nicely steamed with a very flavorful filling. The egg tart was good, but not really my thing. It had a bit of a caramelized sugar flavor reminiscent of waffles with syrup. The spicy oil splashed noodles, one of the noodle dishes on the menu, was generally lacking: some nice toppings, but not much flavor. Overall, this is a nice little place that seems to be fairly well run. I suggest going for the dim sum and giving up on expectations for anything on the menu that isn't dim sum. They have a series of vegetarian appetizers, but that's not their focus. In terms of the overall experience, the staff is very friendly and on top of things. We ordered takeout, but the online ordering site didn't give us a confirmation of our order. A quick call to the restaurant confirmed that everything was received and already in process. In terms of the food, the wood ear mushrooms and tofu skins was a clear winner. The broccoli was fine, but I would have preferred Chinese broccoli or watercress if they were available. The five spiced eggplant was fine: steamed to a custard-like level of softness, then paired with a salty sauce and served cold. The dan dan noodles were probably best suited for a dine-in experience and didn't really travel well. My partner tells me that the stuffed pork buns were good, but the solid piece of pork in the center was less optimal than something shredded or thinned out with some vegetable matter. All told, this was a good experience. The vegetarian appetizers were good but not exceptional. The various noodle and bun dishes were very nicely crafted. The hand made noodles were a particularly nice touch, with a lot more flavor and texture than I would have ever expected. If I have any requests, it would be for more vegetable centric noodle options.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.
