We stopped here the other night. This was our second visit, and after recovering from a turkey hangover we were excited to come back. When we arrived there was a larger table in the front of the place but they soon left and we were alone to enjoy our meals. For an appetizer we ordered their summer rolls, and asked for a carousel of Thai chili sauce. We were presented with the sauce and a ground up spice. I began mixing up my sauce then I dumped a lot too much dry spice on my prepared sauce. I thought it would be ok so I ate my rolls as normal. Tasty and fresh, though a tad on the smaller side VS other places. So after eating we waited to be served our meals. Here is where the Thai spice lurched with angry might from my mouth to my burning stomach. In essence I ate a tablespoon of ground spicy chili. Pain swelled as I watered my burning mouth. Water doesn't work well but I didn't see a glass of milk or freezing bowl of ice cream so I did my best. Our entrees were served and I requested Thai hot. I don't regret this, it was nice and flavorful even though Satan himself was flaming the bonfire in my mouth. I carried on and enjoyed my Kee Mao with tofu. The tofu was really good as was the noodles, not choppy and not stuck together, BONUS! But the portion size seemed more suitable to lunch than dinner with a price tag to match. If the prices or portions could be adjusted accordingly this may be in contention for one of the best Thai restaurants in the Burgh. Checked out this place for carry out and was pleasantly surprised! The staff was friendly and and the food we ordered was delicious! We ordered the green curry and kee Mao noodles. I was impressed with the quality and how it wasn't oily like some Thai places. Fair warning- the kee Mao is spicy and only order it spicier if you can handle it! Senyai is fantastic!! The summer rolls are my favorite appetizer. I get them every time I go. They're chewy, crunchy and taste so fresh. My go to order used to be the Pad Thai, but I recently started ordering the Kee Mao noodles which (I think) are my new fave! I love the spice in it as well the chewiness of the noodles. I'm not a big fan of shrimp and this dish makes me like it!! Their space is a little small but they are accomidating to any size party if you call ahead. The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful if you are unsure what to order. This restaurant is perfect whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a good place to get dinner or lunch. read more

A great place in Shadyside. Got a reservation here on a Saturday night. Parking on Ellsworth isn't ideal but I got lucky with a spot right out front. It is a BYOB so come prepared. Their dining room is pretty small and somewhat loud, they have outdoor seating as well. Service was a little chaotic but our waitress was doing her best and had a great sense of humor. We started with a medley of apps, my favorite were the crab rangoons and the chicken satays. I had the spicy fried rice as my entree which definitely had some heat. Prices are very reasonable. Walked past Senyai and the patio pulled me in. It's great with the lighting and plants. The hostess was very friendly. I got the last patio table but I would have been fine eating inside because even that is very nice. Had the Mango salad with tofu. Fresh mango and just enough zing with the dressing. But if all you can say to people walking in who don't have reservations is a flippant performance of feigned condolence with "There's nothing! No seats :D" after asking if we had reservations, maybe I wouldn't write a review of how the server with glasses embarrassed me and my partner by announcing to the entire restaurant that there was no space for us. Everyone went quiet, and we were made to walk out as all your customers watched. The sole interaction I had with this restaurant and this server in particular was incredibly rude and disrespectful and have single-handedly dissuaded us from ever coming back here again. Alright food to go ((of course)). This review is for July 27th 2020. Being Asian myself, this restaurant food was not worth the pricey numbers they establish for each dish. Ordered Chicken Satay appetizer. It was really bad. Like really, really bad!!!! First off: Chicken Satay is small chicken chunks which is nicely grilled and served on skewers with a peanut sauce. What they served us were 3 steamed chicken BREASTS!! Yuck!!AND THEY WERE WET & WATERY!!! WTFFFFF!!!((Attached pics)). Alot of water dripped out from the satay to go box. WATER!!!!! Water dripped out into the to-go brown bag ((pic attached)). Tried one bite of the satay & we landed up throwing away the entire appetizer. Felt bad considering the recession/inflation we're currently in that we landed up wasting food smh! We also ordered Chicken Padthai med spicy level and I had the Spicy Thai Basil Chicken fried rice-- thai spicy level with extra thai spicy sauce on the side just the way I like. The Fried rice was bomb!! Spice level was perfect, no water dripping. It tasted awesome ((pic attached)), zero complaints. The Padthai was pretty good too. Can I just say that the decor in this place is AMAZING?! It's absolutely so cute and very aesthetically pleasing!! We came at ~5ish on a Sunday, so it wasn't crowded and the servers were very attentive. We got the Kee mao and panang curry, both level 3 in spiciness. They gave us some hot sauce and crushed chili in bottles on the side because they didn't have any hot chili oil. The panang came with a side of rice and had lots of vegetables in it. The kee mao also had lots of veggies. We wished there were more noodles in the dish, but it was still pretty good. I feel like the place is kind of pricey for the amount of food you get, especially in comparison to places like noodlehead. It was still pretty good and I enjoyed my experience here. read more

I've been wanting to check out Senyai for a while and I'm so glad I finally tried it! First, I have to note how cute the atmosphere is. Sure, it's instagram worthy but it also just makes you feel so cozy and at home! Or maybe that's the service? I say it's a combo of both. We started with the Thai chicken wings which were pretty good. I wish they had dumplings without shrimp since I'm not a seafood person but wings are always a good choice too. My main dish was Pad Medmamuang which translated (at least from Google) means Cashew Chicken. This was so delicious! They gave me a lot of food and I ate every last bite. I ordered a level medium spice and could've probably handled a little more but every place is different with their spice tolerance. I would've loved to try the dessert but I was simply too full! Beautiful meal at Senyai Thai Kitchen! We sat in their gorgeous patio on one of the nicest days this year. Ordered crispy tofu bites and fresh rolls for our appetizer and shared a Kee Mao Tofu for our main. The fresh rolls were delicious, lots of vermicelli, and I really liked the sauce. The Kee Mao and tofu bites were also delicious but pretty oily. Too much oil on both, it left a residue on my lips. It was a shame because this was one of the most unique and delicious Kee Mao's I've ever had. Many kinds of vegetables when the standard usually just has cabbage or bok choy. It also had an almost grilled, smoked flavor. I was very happy to see vegan curries and will absolutely come back and try one. Our waiter was more than lovely as well. Waiter never checked back on us. You get a tiny dish of rice for your entree, actually the more I think about this, should be a two star. The place is neat inside and clean but for what they charge, they should offer more food. Go to Nicky's Thai or better yet, Thai Gourmet in Bloomfield. Seafood Delight- light battered shrimp and calamari topped spicy mayo on the side $9. Appetizers 2. Senyai summer rolls- tofu, carrot, cucumber, mixed greens wrapped in vermicelli noodle with peanut sauce on the side $6. Shrimp Tom Yum Soup $6. For entrees 1. Ba Mee Ped (Grilled duck noodles) $17 so good, roasted duck, chinese broccoli, egg noodle with garlic sauce. 2. Hung Lay Curry $16, slow cook pork belly, ginger, onions, roasted peanuts simmering in Northern-Style sauce. Sitting outside terrace-like with trees, flowers around us with the rain in background. Came here for dinner and everything I had here was amazing. The prices were a bit more expensive than your average Thai restaurant but the quality explains it. My only complaint would be that the Seafood Delight appetizer only had two pieces of shrimp which made it difficult for everyone to have a taste. My family and I ordered the crab fried rice, duck curry and shrimp pad thai. The crab fried rice was my favorite with lots of large crab chunks throughout the dish. The shrimp pad thai was good but nothing surprising and the duck curry was really flavorful. The service was great but it does get busy so definitely make reservations ahead of time for dinner. I absolutely adore this restaurant. There are plenty of thai restaurants in Pittsburgh but the quality of the dishes are just outstanding. My favorite dishes are: mango salad with shrimp. The dressing is amazing. I feel like I can't get enough of this dish. The pad kee mao has a really nice Smokey flavor to it. So tasty and satisfying. And lastly, the senyai tom yom dish is super tasty. Nothing beats the tamarind soup. This dish packs so much flavor in every bite. We ate here last night. My husband had never dined here and I enthusiastically told him how wonderful it was. The service was very attentive, as usual. However, we were very disappointed with the food. The steamed dumplings were warm vs hot but the biggest letdown was the Ba-mee ped. It was delicious, even memorable, when I last ordered it. Last night it was not good. Just an odd, tasteless dish, not the succulent entree that I had previously enjoyed. We couldn't finish it. I'm wondering if there's a new chef in the kitchen? This is probably my favorite Thai Restaurant in Pittsburgh - if not my favorite restaurant ever. As soon as I walked in I had a feeling that this was going to be an amazing experience - and I was more than pleasantly surprised. Just the smell that permeated the restaurant and the ambiance of the decor make you realize that whoever runs this establishment has good taste, is clean and organized, and gives a lot of attention to detail and the subtle nuances of all the pleasures life has to offer. One of my closest friends (who is also a really good cook) invited me here out of the blue and introduced this place to me as one of her favorite places. We shared an entree and a couple beverages which I will expound on here : Green curry - best curry ever, creamy and rich in flavor with well balanced spices and a good variety of vegetables (which they let us pick) cooked to perfection. Green Thai Tea - this refreshing beverage uses high quality matcha and coconut milk and gives you a clean energy throughout the day. Blue Lemongrass - this is my friends favorite tea ever and I could see why - it has a very unique flavor and is very comforting. This restaurant uses high quality, fresh ingredients and offers their meals at VERY reasonable prices - I highly suggest going here and ordering some of the menu. You will NOT be disappointed. Ooooh my goodness. I would give this place a million stars if I could. It's the best Thai I've ever had. I wish I could take it back to my hometown with me. The hostess and servers were all very friendly, gave great service, and the food was INCREDIBLE. We got summer rolls, Thai chicken wings, and crab Rangoon as appetizers, which were all absolutely perfect. I'm somewhat of a crab Rangoon connoisseur and I gotta say, this is easily in the top 2 I've ever had. I got the grapow kai krop as my entree and it was unbelievable. Level 3 spice, they told me this was "American hot" and I'd agree, it was very bearable and not as spicy as I thought it *might* be but it ended up being perfect. This dish is like a lightly fried chicken with green beans, bell pepper, and the best sauce with it - the menu described it as a spicy garlic sauce. I would order this again and again. 4.5 stars I was here last Thursday and forgot to review it. The food was excellent! This is a cute well decorated restaurant and feels very new and fresh when you walk in. They also have a patio but it was closed when we went because bad weather was expected. We ordered the summer veggie rolls served with a delicious peanut sauce, my wife had the pumpkin curry dish which she absolutely loved, and I had the pad Thai special with shrimp and chicken. It is BYOB, but being out of towners, We didn't bring anything but the corkage fee is very reasonable: one dollar per beer and five dollars per bottle of wine. The prices for entrees were also fair. The only thing preventing this from review from being a full five stars was that the shrimp was rubbery and overcooked. Otherwise we really enjoyed this place and would definitely come back when passing through Pittsburgh again. read more

I love Senyai! I live very close, so I come here often either for take-out or sit-down, lunch or dinner. It's probably my favorite Thai food in Pittsburgh, even though this is a crowded category with a lot of solid options. Pretty much all of the dishes I have tried---and that's quite a few of them---I have enjoyed. Some favorites are the soups, crispy tofu (which they really make crispy), pad cha, ba-mee ped, and the red curry. I have never had dessert at Senyai, so I cannot comment on that. The food can get very spicy, so be careful with the spicy level you pick. The place is crowded, so make sure to make a reservation. When the weather's warm, the outside patio is wonderful, so try to get a seat there. Overall, highly recommended, if you enjoy or want to try Thai food. read more

I used to LOVE this place. But they've decreased portion sizes, raised prices, and the service has become abysmal. The last two times I've gone, both at not really busy times on weekdays: 1. Went alone before the dinner rush. I was served half a bowl of food--literally half of the reduced-size portions. The server didn't say anything about it and I was charged the same price. Server disappeared for almost an hour minutes after bringing the food, returned only to clear, and didn't ask I wanted anything else. There were maybe three other parties there. 2. Server forgot our order. After 45 minutes, when people who arrived after we ordered had been served and the patrons at the next table were commenting on how our food wasn't coming, server brought our food. No apology, nothing. Just banged down the dishes and left. Both times, there was a non-stop line of takeout and delivery drivers. It looks like they're just trying to do too much with too little staff and depending on loyal customers to overlook the issues. Maybe they need to limit deliveries when they're understaffed. The food is good, and I'd pay more for smaller-sized dishes once in a while. But the unpleasant experience makes it not worth it. read more

Senyai is an awesome date spot and hits all the boxes. Senyai offers a very large Thai menu that features great appetizers for sharing or keeping to yourself. The entrees are all generous portions and it's byob! The inside seating is intimate and the outdoor deck seating is great as Senyai is conveniently located on Ellsworth Ave. Crab ragoons and the dumplings are great starters and both come with great sauces for dipping. I've often enjoyed the crab fried rice which provides plenty of lump crab meat. I wanted to try a new noodle dish my last visit and the waitress recommended the si-ew which was a nice change from an always solid pad thai. The noodles and brown sauce were amazing and there was a ton of chicken and vegetables. I ordered a one spice level and additional of the house spice on the side. I've also ordered from Senyai a number of times for take out as it is a quick walk and the food again is always delicious and holds up through delivery.
