Seoul Mates is a Korean establishment that sells varies Korean dishes and bar located in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle. This is a newer restaurant and it a convenient and central area of Capitol Hill. My friend and I walked over from their place a few blocks over and was seated as soon as we walked through the door. We already knew what to order since my friend had visited a few times before. We ordered the Bo-Ssam (braised pork belly and shoulder; tender, slow-cooked pork belly and pork shoulder served with fresh radish kimchi and salted shrimp sauce) and Seafood Pa-Jeon (seafood green-onion pancake; savor light batter pancake pan-filled with squid and scallion) to share between the two of us. We also received two bowls of rice to eat with the entrees. The service was great and the food arrived not too long after ordering. It may seem like not that much food, but it was definitely more than enough for two people. Might be best to feed three people without being too stuffed. The ambiance of the place is quite intimate and a little fancy with the modern-minimalist dark aesthetic. The windows open wide open and you can become immersed with the outside once again. Great setting for a nice summer day. We had a great time and would come back again to try more items off the menu! read more

It's been awhile since I last went out to Caphill for food and this place is definitely worth the visit if you're in the mood for Korean. Came here with a couple of friends and overall, we enjoyed our dinner here a lot and shout out to Allan for his phenomenal service! :) He took great care of us and was super friendly and attentive to our needs. Interior of this place was fancy and the low / dim lighting made it feel like a nice lounge vibe. Onto the good stuff ~ ordered quite a bit and portions were big enough to do family style. Dishes we enjoyed were: 1. Rose Jjim Dak (Rose Boneless Chicken) + Wide Noodles: Overall, very yummy dish! The rose was strong and flavorful and probably one of the best rose Korean dishes I had to date. Did have a hint of spice and despite the look, this dish was very filling. Tried it with the wide noodles but it was a tad bit toooo chewy. Next time, going to try the instant/ramen noodles instead for the quick satisfying slurp the noodle and sauce feel. 2. Crispy Avocado: My friends and I were surprised at how good this appetizer was! Perfectly crispy tempura texture on the outside and fresh avocado on the inside. Highly recommend if you want something light and healthy. 3. Kimchi Squid Pancakes: Instead of the traditional big Korean pancake style, this was mini sized pancakes. Overall, this was good with the squid taste. However, didn't taste too much of the kimchi. 4. Corn Cheese: I'm a sucker for corn cheese and this place did it well. Highly recommend as a side dish. 5. Steamed Egg: Solid side dish and it definitely had a more sesame taste than the average steam egg. Still, it was tasty and generous portion too! Other Notes: ~ As for drinks, we drank away 2 bottles of the calamansi soju like it was water. Very tasty, fresh, and yes, there is soju in there since we left dinner with a nice buzz :) Highly recommend trying this out! ~ No free traditional ban chan /side dishes here. Want to rate this place high because that rose tteokboki was the best that I ever had in Washington state. Truly. Soju mixed drinks were done well with the little taste of alcohol, but the strength very much present. Good did not take long to arrive, but the waiters never stopped in to refill waters or ask the table if anything was needed. We were here for like 3 hours and we had to call over each time to get a re-up on our water, get napkins, order more for the table, and get a box for leftovers. They even gave us incorrectly sized leftover boxes ._. Bruh. At least the bathroom clean and there is just enough parking outside. Thank gosh this place opens late because Chookerica and I able to satisfy our late night cravings after the Poppy concert. I really want to say great things about this place, but the staff... what the freak. Just out of touch... very dim lighting throughout the restaurant, but I love the big windows that invite the light in or make for nice ambiance with the whole restaurant. Went last Saturday (06/27) and had a great time. Came in at 9pm with a party of 3 and had no wait. Really loved the interior design and experience. Was served by 3 different waiters and they were all so kind and helpful. I wanna give a special shoutout to Alan, he recommended the Calamansi Soju and it was best thing we ordered that night. We definitely wanna be served by him again! He's so nice and energetic. The truffle fries were great. However, the rose tteokbokki's portions were not that great. There were barely any rice cakes. They were good nonetheless though! The texture was perfect. I just wish there was more to go around with the portion they gave us. Next time we plan to go though, we hope to be served by Alan again and hopefully have bigger portions to go around. read more

Great menu variety, the food was excellent. My favorite was the Juicy fluffy chicken katsu. We visited on a late Wednesday busy night. We got seated quickly but overall the service was slow, we got our drinks pretty late. The ambiance was nice. My friend left a shirt on the seat so we called after leaving and they kept it for us until the next day for pick-up. The staff also acknowledged that the service was slow. Seoul Mates finally opened taking the place of Gokan sushi. The place has a trendy vibe with kpop and virtual video walks through Seoul playing on loop on their large screen monitors. Despite the trendy modern feel, the food doesn't stray too far from korean classics. Stuff tried: Kalbijjim (braised beef short ribs): 68$ seems steep but to be honest serving is more than enough for two people. Very tasty tender meat, assorted root veg and the tteok bokki is crispy which is an interesting twist. Sadly they forgot to add cheese as requested :( Cha Shu (soy braised pork belly) huge serving that can feed 3 people for $18 which price point wise is very reasonable. Served with radish, spicy dipping sauce and a side salad. Soft tofu soup (sundubu jjigae) option to add an egg which is always a welcome perk. Comes with seafood (shrimp, squid, clam,) but also can do beef or combo. The only banchan sides are standard cabbage kim chi and a mac salad but they are refillable. The space is pretty big and they have a wide variety of seating options. Much kudos to their generous late night hours! Open til 2am! read more

I liked Seoul Mates so much that I went twice in the same week. The fried chicken platter was easily one of my favorites. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and came with a variety of sauces to switch things up. The rose tteokbokki was another standout. It was rich, creamy, and had just the right amount of spice, although I wish it came with a few more fish cakes. The bossam was also amazing. The pork was tender and juicy, although I wish it came with more cabbage to wrap everything up. I also tried the creamy kimchi udon, which was good overall, but I personally wasn't a fan of the sausage and ham mixed into the dish. The restaurant has plenty of seating, stays open late (which is rare in Seattle), and has a great atmosphere for dinner with friends. The staff is always friendly, even when they're busy running around the restaurant. This is definitely one of my favorite Korean spots in Seattle! read more

Overall I liked this space and I would come back. It's open till 2 am which is super fun and we got there at 12/1 am and were seated pretty quick. We ordered right away and it was got the food really quick, we did order drinks too and somehow the drinks took longer than the food. I ordered a ginger ale so idk why that took so long and I had to ask for it twice after the food came and the waiter was like "sorry we are short staffed" but I think drinks especially prepared things should be pretty easy and be before or atleast very close to the food. Overall the food was good, I thought the wings were just alright very crispy but I hated the honey butter sauce and the group agreed but that's also on us for picking that. Extremely underwhelming experience with some strange operational issues. I have nothing negative to say about the wait staff, but the management and kitchen execution leave a lot to be desired. The food was just okay and, at times, borderline disappointing. Nothing really stood out or justified a return visit. The tofu soup arrived with a noticeable layer of oil floating on top, the portions for the meat dishes were surprisingly small, and the banchan selection was sparse and limited compared to most Korean restaurants. Between 3 people we got: The rose tteobokki - pretty good Seafood pancake - it came as 5 small pancakes. Really thin and each about maybe 2 inches in diameter. So not what I was expecting and not your usual seafood pancake but it rasted pretty good. Fried chicken - this confused us. We thought we were getting korean fried chicken but then the server asked if we wanted sauce on the side. We said sure, and got a serving of very standard kfc (as in the fast food place with the colonel) style fried chicken with a little ketchup container of sauce. And we didn't know until the bill came that the sauce was an extra $3. Again, it was ketchup container sized. Seoul Mates is one of those unassuming spots you walk past a dozen times thinking, "I should try that someday." Well, someday finally arrived and I'm very glad it did. We kicked things off with appetizers, starting with the Kimchi Squid Jeon. Now, full transparency, I didn't spot much squid, but there was shrimp making a surprise appearance. Identity crisis aside, it was delicious. Think small savory pancakes packed with bold Korean flavors and paired with a dipping sauce that kept us reaching back for "just one more bite." Next came the veggie chicken tenders made from cauliflower and I'm still processing this emotional breakthrough. I went from casual cauliflower tolerance to full-on believer. Flavorful and coated in an absolutely addictive sauce, these might convert even the most dedicated vegetable skeptics. For mains, the Chicken Katsu was a standout. I've had my fair share of katsu over the years, and this easily lands in my personal top five. Perfectly crispy breading without crossing into jaw-workout territory, well-seasoned chicken, and a sauce so good I would enthusiastically purchase it by the bottle if given the opportunity. We also ordered the Stone Bi-Bim-Bap. The flavors were solid and the crispy rice at the bottom added nice texture, though I did wish there was a bit more meat, as it felt slightly sparse. Still enjoyable, just not the star of the evening. Service was friendly, the atmosphere light and casual, and overall it delivered exactly what you hope for. The tangy pickled radish and the spicy dipping sauce balanced everything really well. On top of the food being great, the service made the experience even better. I like the lighting. I didn't like that I could smell a fishy smell like I would if I were at pike place market. Usually I never smell that at a restaurant and I've been to many sushi restaurants. The service was great and the food was amaazzzing. Had the crispy potato jeon which was my first time having it. Loved it. The katsu was cooked perrrfectly. It was so juicy. I did get it with the curry for $2 more but the curry actually was bland. It needed more salt. I wouldn't get the curry next time but loved the katsu sauce. Perfect amount of tanginess. Nice new Korean place in Cap Hill, but didn't meet our expectations. The service was slow and inattentive (never checked in on our orders, never refilled water, etc). One of our dishes was completely forgotten, so we asked for it to be removed from bill. The kimchi had a weird off taste, nothing like I've ever experienced before. The yukgaejang was inauthentic and tasted very off, like a seafood broth unlike the usual beef broth. The bathrooms were partially flooded, water everywhere on the floors almost an inch deep at some parts. read more

We had a reservation for 9pm and had arrived 10 minutes early to check in. We were seated promptly and ordered both our drinks and food shortly after. We ordered the soteok, pork belly, and truffle fries. Drinks came pretty quick, but 20-30 minutes pass by and we still haven't received our food or an update. Our server was hard to flag down so we spoke with another server to get a follow up. 20 more minutes pass by and she never comes back. At this point, we were thinking of cancelling our food entirely since it's been an hour since we ordered and we still haven't received anything. After an hour, our server finally brings us the pork belly and soteok and passively apologizes for the wait, telling us they're serving an engagement party and that the wait can't be helped. It's understandable if you're accommodating big parties because it can get busy and is out of our control , but not receiving an explanation, update, or food after an hour is unacceptable. We tell a different worker to cancel the fries because more time passes and at this point we've lost our appetite. The fries arrived after some time but was taken off our bill for the inconvenience. The fries and soteok were good, but the pork belly had too much fat. I'd probably give this place some more time to up their timeliness and service. read more

Came here twice now. Food is always good and I love the atmosphere and location of the restaurant. Staff are always friendly and kind. The only problem I had was that I ordered Rose tteokbokki and the girl taking my order repeated it back to me so I thought everything was okay. But when my dish came out it was larger than I expected and also had more chicken than rice cakes?? I then found out from the check that they gave me the Rose Jjim-dak instead which was $36 compared to the $17 rose tteokbokki I thought I ordered Food and staff were still amazing so I would still come back. The food, service, and ambience is great! It's not completely authentic Korean food but flavors are delicious and the food is made well. I really enjoyed the fried rice and how it is surrounded by egg that you can scoop up with the rice. The bossam was tender and the radish kimchi hit the spot. It doesn't come with lettuce to wrap it but they were so kind to make us boiled cabbage so we can have the wrap experience. I will definitely come again to enjoy anju with friends or on a date. read more

i had a really terrible experience at this restaurant this evening which ruined my appetite and overall mood. Me and some friends came into seattle for a small getaway and found this place for dinner but from the moment we got there the greeting staff were rude and dismissive. We left it to them having a bad day so we stayed which was a big mistake. When my food arrived i was shocked to find a fly in it.... which was both disgusting and unpleasant. To make matters worse the cupe and utensils were visibly dirty with old food or random stains? Once upon telling staff they seemed annoyed it was brought up and didn't help to fix the situation. Overall the bad attitude from the management and unsanitary environment made it the worst dining experience ive ever had. The health department should definitely shut them down. read more

Service was extremely slow and we were never checked on once. I have never had so many issues come up within a meal. We ordered rose tteokbokki but were given regular (was extremely spicy, even for spice-lovers) and were told that the kitchen had accidentally added on noodles. They said the rose would be coming out still, but a different server tried to give us another item which we had to tell them we did not order. Our wings came out and we had to pour the sauce on top, which, is not a problem but it turns out the server took our order wrong and thought we ordered 2 sauces when we had already clarified with them that we wanted two different flavors. The second sauce didn't come out until later, which we had been expecting to come with another order of wings. If we knew that we had two sauces coming, we wouldn't have poured the whole first one (honey butter, would not recommend). By then, we weren't having the best dining experience so we told them that we'd like to remove the second order of wings, but we had to flag down 3 different employees who would not give us definitive answers as to whether or not they canceled the order. Finally, we were told that since we had already received the sauce and used it (we had no idea it was for the wings we never received), they would still charge us. We were surprised at this, so when we asked for the bill, we asked them to remove it and luckily, they did. Our server did brief us that they are extremely short staffed, so I do not think that they are really the problem, but I would say that they are apart of it. Also, the food here is quite pricy. We ordered 1 truffle fries, 1 rose tteokbokki, 1 fried rice, 1 bone-in wing, and 1 soju and it came out to $90 before tip. Overall, Seoul Mates had a great ambiance and is very much a fun pocha to take your friends who have not been to one before. However, it does not compare to other restaurants and I would not come here again/recommend it. read more
