THE OWNERS: That said, the two owners are no-bullsh*t people -- they have to be, to hold such high standards in an industry that doesn't. So don't go to their tasting room expectng sweet Mom and Dad. They are very friendly, and will happily take time to talk about oil, health, extraction process, and any question you have. BUT, the customer is *not* always right, and they have no time for know-it-alls, spies (yes they get MANY), and rude people, who they will dispatch with vehemence and without hesitation. I suspect that is why there are a few one-star ratings on here. ABOUT TASTING AND SELECTING: Since Sepay oils are stronger than grocery store, they TASTE stronger, in particular more "grassy" with a mild after-burn in the throat. Some people may not like the potent stuff. If so, go for the flavored oils (like Garlic and Herbs), as they are milder but still top quality. HISTORY (as I understand it): SePaY is literally a mom-and-pop outfit, but Mom and Pop know their sh*t. They used to work in the olive oil production field, and they saw the terrible things that were standard practice, from chemicals used to extract the oil, to mixing old stale oil with new. Rebels that they are, they started SePaY, and they ONLY sell the top stuff, not measured by someone's claim but by using reliable producers and testing every batch to assure high "biphenols", the things that make Olive oil so good fo you. Sepay is not high-tech, and their competitors (who are), steal their research, plagerize their web-text, and spy on their tasting room. They are upholding a tiny bastion of quality for us consumers, in an industry that doesn't like them, so please be understanding... We love this local olive oil! They produce a wide variety of oils so if you are looking for something "common" or "unique" they are sure to have what you need. Their tasting room is easy to find (on the road to the Jelly Belly Factory). It is a combination tasting room and gift store with lots of options for any budget. We stop in to make a purchase every month or so. While they don't display jugs in the tasting room, they are available for purchase which comes in handy if you use olive oil on a regular basis. Try not to be put off by reviews indicating "the guy behind the counter" gave too much information about the health benefits of their olive oil. We take lots of visitors here. We let him know that we are regular customers and want our visitors to taste their wonderful local oils. This results in less of health lecture and more of a talk about the uniqueness of each oil that you are tasting. Another great thing about Sepay Groves is that they ship their products. This comes in handy if you want to send their products out for Birthdays, Christmas, or other occasions. This place is worth checking out! read more

I had time to kill and decided to stop in. I've been driving past this place for a couple of years and I was curious. It was a tiny little shop with a very friendly couple working. The lady was super pleasant and a great conversationalist. Charming. They informed me of health benefits and offered me samples which I declined. I felt comfortable browsing and asked questions which they enthusiastically answered. I wish I had more time to kill. I bought the siracha mango vinegar and olive oil. I tried the combination in my salad and it was delicious. My daughter tried it and she enjoyed it also. I will definitely return to purchase more. read more

I, like most people who are introduced to Sepay, went to the Jelly Belly Factory. After gorging on the beans, we saw a sign for olive oil. I live in wine country and know that olives are that great bumper crop that is ready in the down season when grapes aren't producing, so I didn't expect much. Wow was I wrong. The stuff there is amazing. I agree with the other reviewers that the owners definitely ram the benefits down your throat, but they love what they do and there is so much misinformation out there. I think they want to really inform their customers. Some of their ultra high end oils are a little grassy for me. I did buy the second higher one which I must say has transformed how I think of Hummus. Just try getting a high end oil and using it in Hummus. The first hour it tastes a little grassy, but after you let the flavors come together after an hour or two, there is this subtle sweetness from the oil that comes through. WOW. just wow. I also get their cooking oil and use it for saute. When I am using large amount or need something completely flavorless, I admit I still have canola on hand, but now I know I can taste the difference. Even though it's a half hour drive away, I never buy oil anywhere else. Oh and the prices are very reasonable for the product. I only wish we could reuse the bottles and bring it back for a discount. read more

The guy that ran it was super helpful..although he said I was young and didnt probably enjoy the oils as much...ageism, bleh. Anyways the oils were fantastic. Wide range of choices from the delicious to the exotic to the healthiest of locally produced Olive oil. Note: The healthiest, initially, does not taste as good as the oils made for taste. They had a large amount of oils and vinegars to choose from, and the people working (owners I assume) were very knowledgeable about the health benefits of olive oils. We learned a lot, but one of the coolest parts was that they had a table set up for the kids to color and draw at while the adults were enjoying themselves! Like most others, we dropped in after a Jelly Belly factory tour and ended up buying olive oil and vinegar at this place. They seem to be knowledgeable but as someone else pointed out a bit fanatical. Chris H. says they were rude and I too felt that they were a bit abrasive. I'm not sure it was worth the side trip. Nothing seemed to be wrong with the oil and vinegar but I can get it locally here, too. I stopped outside their store to sit on a bench waiting for my wife to use the ladies room after we finished paying for our bottles. I overhead them talking about me and I didn't like it, frankly. They can keep their oil and vinegar; I don't like dealing with two-faced people so I won't be back. My bottle of oil and small vinegar cost me $30 -- a bit too much with free insults. read more

Me and my boyfriend went in after the Jelly Belly Factory tour. We were greeted warmly and given a free tasting. While tasting, the friendly woman working there gave us lots of great information and seemed to be very passionate. I really appreciated her method and wish there were more businesses like this: instead of being tricked some way or another, she gave us the facts. You are lured in with a free tasting - a great idea! Even if you don't end buying anything, you leave having learned a thing or two. As far as good olive oil goes, I have to say that they were reasonably priced. She answered all our questions, including mine on using olive oil on your skin. From Virginia and stopped in at Sepay on the way back from Jelly Belly. We had a wonderful time sampling everything and being educated on the different oils. We received only info when we asked questions. No pressure on buying anything. We purchased oils and salad dressings (my daughter and myself) and had it shipped to VA (packed to perfection). We have since ordered to replace the dressings (trying some of the different dressings) and oils. Our families each have their favorites. and we order together with the one flat shipping price so it is reasonable to have the items shipped. About 4 years ago I was having fun touring in Fairfield while my husband was at a seminar. I checked out the Jelly Belly factory, then I found Sepay Oil, which literally changed our lives. I found out what REAL healthy olive oil should taste like and what the benefits are. When we returned home, I changed from using 1 1/2 # of butter per week to Sepay oil. Within 6 weeks my husbands total cholesterol dropped dramatically from 259 to under 200. I joined their club and use their oil every day. My husbands cholesterol is currently at 162 and has been under 165 since we started using Sepay oil. Also, his triglycerides were 251 and they are now 116.
