I rarely write reviews, but I feel like I have to this time. The customer service here is terrible. The staff are very rude and unfriendly. I hate going to this store, but it's the closest option to my house. Every time I visit, I make a purchase, yet I always feel unwelcome. The employees often stand around talking to each other, and I feel awkward interrupting them to ask a question. When they do respond, they answer quickly and walk away. This is solely for the customer service experience. On 12/12/21 I walked into this store and was greeted at the door by two sales associates. I usually just walk around the store and half the time I know what I want to buy. However, this time around I wanted to try a new foundation. I approached one of the sales associates and asked to have my foundation match. Hailey (Haley) was more than happy to assist me. She match me without even using the color matching machine (since the foundation I wanted was more like a light coverage). She gave me a sample to try at home and answer all my questions. She gave me her full attention and is very knowledgeable about all the products. She never once try to push me to buy an item or discourage me to try a certain product. She was friendly from the beginning to the end of our conversation. Immediately after she was helping another client. A couple of months ago I walked into a Sephora in San Francisco and explained to one of their sales associates that I was looking for a bottle of perfume that would fit within the TSA's rather ridiculous carry-on restrictions for liquids (rarely can I bear to check luggage.) She cheerfully let me in on a wonderful Sephora perk: you can get a sample size of any perfume you want. All you have to do is ask! Because my current scent of the moment doesn't come in a suitably small size, I dashed into Sephora for a tiny sample of Tom Ford's Black Orchid. They were all too happy to give it to me and even suggested a few other spicy floral scents with effervescent citrus notes that might also appeal. Let me just say that I am a disaster when it comes to make up- except wait, WAIT-- not anymore! My friend and I stopped into this Sephora a couple of days ago. We both have that embarrassing drawer of 5+ year old make up and decided we had to deal with our "issues". That having been said, we found, to our horror, that all the rules have changed and we have no idea what we're doing. We are also those introverted people who find approaching staff in shops distressing. Some wonderful people took us under their wings. Sure, it's their job, but for the first time in my life, somebody took the time to 1) find the right color foundation for my skin tone 2) explain why they made the choice they did 3) explain how foundation color works 4) what colors I should be looking for in eye shadow and blush and why 5) why I should avoid silica based products and how to tell 6) put these things on my face and teach me how to reproduce the results Sami and Arturo were god sends. Not only did they help and teach us, they were incredibly kind. They didn't make us feel bad for just how bad we were at figuring anything out, and were personable, to boot. We had a fantastic conversation with Arturo while he "fixed" us. The folks at the check out counter were lovely as well and we had a delightful conversation-- even though we had kept the staff well past closing time with our dithering. I love Sephora. This particular one has great customer service. Sometimes they don't know what they're talking about though. I don't like when I know a product that I haven't even tried better than a salesperson. On the wall you can scan any item in the store, and it will bring up the product details on their website, including reviews and ratings which is helpful because I never purchase a new product without looking at reviews. Same prices as every other Sephora. Pricey for the stuff that's worth it, the cheaper stuff is usually not worth the money (unless its a high-end sample). Some of the best brands of makeup, skincare, and perfumes including Yves Saint Laurent, Make Up For Ever, Nars, Dior, Buxon, Anastasia, Smashbox, Urban Decay, Too Faced, Laura Mercier, Murad, Clinique, Marc Jacobs, St. Tropez, etc. etc. etc. I spend too much $$$ here. read more

This was my first visit at this location. After spending some time debating between which foundation to pick, I asked for a shade match. One of the associates called over another associate to help me. Boy am I glad she did! (Queen) Bee helped me so much. Not only did she help me choose the right color, she also did swatches of both foundations so I can better choose which one to purchase. She gave me the most honest advice and answered all of my questions & i'm so appreciative of it. She has the best sense of humor and was so personable. I love this store so much that I could very easily get lost in it. They have all the brands I like from Lancome to Clinique to Benefit Cosmetics and so forth. The help here was very helpful and gave me some great tips on applying one of the products that I was there to buy. I have a membership card for this chain and they were doing double points today so I scored a lot of points for my purchases this afternoon. They had a very nice display of travel size items and that was pretty cool. The cashier was real nice and made me aware that I had enough points in my member account to qualify me for one of several free gifts they were offering so I got to pick one out. Literally the worst Sephora ever. Don't bother going here. You need to go the the one in the Prudential Center instead. They send top workers in the district/ area to that store. The one at this Cambridge location has the worst workers. I asked for a sample once and the lady told me no. I was shocked because I am used to walking out with samples without even wanting or asking for them usually. And the one time I wanted to really try something out at home, they deny me. And somehow a manager got involved and she told me that the only way I can get a sample is for me to buy that product. And take both the sample and purchased product home. Then try the sample at home and retune the product if I didn't like the sample. Literally crazy. The one in the Pru is much bigger anyways and offers a larger selection. Go there. read more

I am very loyal customer to Sephora. I went there today and asked for some samples because I want to try out the product and buy what is best for me. I understand the policy three samples per person, so I asked my friend to get me three samples as well. Carla with a bad attitude didn't give me anything, it looks like she wiped her finger and that was it. As you can see in the picture there is nothing there for me to try out. It's a sample cup, for foundation it should be filled little bit more to cover my entire face not just one cheek. I am very upset, because I do spend a lot of money there (my status is Rouge). The last straw was when Carla stood out her hand as she was going to give me the samples and just right away she gave them to my friend knowing they are for me. She is very unprofessional person, you don't do that to customers. She didn't make me feel welcome in the store, I never going to shop there again, better take my business somewhere else. read more

I stopped by today to buy an eyeliner and use my PLAY pass. The cashier had never heard of PLAY and didn't know what a PLAY pass was and I had to explain it to her. She said she wasn't new. Then I was looking for my play pass and she saw my beauty insider card and said "oh, that card will work just fine!" And I said "NO, I'm looking for my PLAY pass. It gives me 50 extra points, so I am NOT going to check out without it." She said, "oh, I didn't know that." I'm super confused as how she had never heard of a popular program with the company that I have been a member of for almost 2 years. She wasn't particularly friendly either. Like, what? I love Sephora! I love love love it..... I can stay there for hours and just PLAY. This is my kind of store. But not in Cambridge. I went in with my daughter who is one. She liked the light and colors and I thought, COOL!!! I have at least 15 minutes in here before she wants to go. I walked all over and since it's new, it's neat and clean and oh so pretty! I went to NARS, Benefit, sprayed some perfume, dabbed some moisturizer and was having a nice time. I knew I had to pick up some things and did, went over to pay and this is when I experienced New England weather indoors....it was sunny, turned cloudy and then began to storm...... I waited patiently to pay for my stuff. The guy behind me cut me and went over to the other register. The cashier didn't give a shit that I was first. Fine, the girl in front of me paying took freaking forever to tell the cashier she wasn't interested in their promotions program. I waited for 10 minutes and my time was coming to an end....Rayaana, my daughter couldn't take the loud music. FINALLY the girl was done and what happens...some bitch cuts me and goes right to the cashier and the cashier takes her shit and starts ringing it up. I was like, excuse me??? But the customer service in here is terrible so I just go in & get what I need & then leave . They do need some customer service lessons . The CambridgeSide Sephora is always crowded, the lines are long, and the employees are, for the most part, either too unwilling or too busy to help. Those that do help you often have no idea what they're talking about; I had one literally give me a "deer in headlights" blank stare and then shrug. If you know what you're looking for, great; if you have a question, you're probably out of luck when it comes to a helpful or informed answer. Some of the most popular products by Laura Mercier, Benefit, Dior, etc., are often out of stock (though if you ask, they will sometimes find them in the back room, instead of on the shelves, where they should be). Sephora has a great selection of almost any type of makeup product that you need. I trust their products...but do not value their customer service at all. The employees at this store are very inattentive. I came in here one day and the person gave me a foundation that was probably 5 shades darker than my actual skin color. Not only that, she simply told me which foundation to choose and let me look for it on my own. Now, I am not a baby but....what is she getting paid for? I tried coming in a second time and the same thing happened. They were all talking among themselves and forgetting that there were clueless people like me needing some guidance in the store. I absolutely love Sephora...just not this store. I'm a VIB Rouge so I make my way around the stores pretty well. I walked in just to get a sharpener. A blonde tall lady asked me if I needed help. (I never do, I know these stores inside out, but I just told her that I was looking for a sharpener). She then proceeded to ask if I had a BI card, I told her I was Rouge. She then told me about a promotion of the points, and before I let her finish I told her again, I'm Rouge, I know everything! (A lot of times before people in the store know due to my BT presence). I then stepped away and heard every single conversation that she had with girls around her asking them to sign up for a BI card. Or even "Can I help you with something? No, I'm just browsing. Ok, did you want to try this? No, just browsing." Like very pushy. Some people may like, I personally hate pushy people. I wanted to buy some hair things but after being around her I remembered my last experience and didn't want to spend money at this store. I picked up my pencil sharpener (which I knew was on sale and the lady didn't, as there were no signs), and went to the line. There were about 4 or 5 associates talking amongst themselves, and only one girl at the register. Makes sense. I wait and get a turn and talk to this "I-hate-my-job-and-you-can-see-it-on-my-face" kind of look. I had already put my card close to her for payment and she still asked me to pay. No samples, no offer of redeeming, not even a stupid smile. Last time I was in this store I wanted to return something WITH A RECEIPT. I had used a credit to purchase it but because the receipt said credit, the baldish guy said he could not give it back to me unless I showed the other receipt from the original payment. He could not give me a gift card back due to theft prevention. Excuse me? Did you say that to my face that I was trying to steal when I had a real RECEIPT! Doesn't matter if you're Rouge or not, logic does not work for these idiots. They make you feel like scum for returning anything. I almost want to return everything I ever want to return to this store so they suffer from the sales. It's a part of doing business and it is SEPHORA POLICY!!!! Store manager needs to be replaced stat (some of them just don't realize that maintaining good experiences means more future sales. I absolutely love Sephora. I come here for pretty much all of my cosmetic needs now. The staff at this location has always been helpful and curteous to me, unlike the Pru location. I can always find something I want to buy when I go in. The selection is great! They have every popular brand you could want with one exception. I recently found out they no longer carry a brand I adore- best cover up ever- Bourjois. I was so disappointed! It's not even available online any more. I did however find this awesome special edition set that is my new savior. Another reason I love Sephora- I frequently need to see, touch, experience things. Buying online I can't do that. But with Sephora- if its something I buy regularly, I already know what its like and if I do buy online, I can just take it to the store to return or exchange without any hassle! Miriam is also absolutely right- they will give you a sample of ANY perfume you want and its perfect if you are going to travel but don't want to take the whole bottle. So I went back at lunch and checked out the women's wall. I was eating lunch at the mall anyway. Here's what smells interesting, with my biases being something different and high quality ingredients. It turns out I only liked 4 Japanese scents, sorry for the bias, but that's what my nose said. Masaki Matsushima Mintea - Decidedly avant-garde as usual, it would be perfect except for this sharp citrus note. It's green tea, light wood, musk and trails with a floral. Really interesting, but you have to be a bit daring to wear it. Masaki Matsushima M - A fairly well balanced scent that has a light base of musk, no wood, but like all of Japanese scents, something different. Good for casual everyday wear. Kenzo Peace - A complex, almost confusing scent from the generally reliable Kenzo. While it surely has tonka bean, which throws it off track really, there is a surprising absence of patchouli, (for a hippie scent) which might of settled it and gave it cohesiveness. Perhaps layer it with your favorite patchouli from some place like Kiehl's? Kenzo Parfum D'Ete - This opened up very promising, with it's rich floral and unidentifiable green stuff, I thought perhaps vetiver. But after it's dried down, the smell is much less complex and it's definitely not vetiver. But the floral are ok. The search for a definitively feminine vetiver continues. But this is maybe another layering possibility? The newer Guerlain's were dissapointing as was the Gucci Eau de Parfum, a pity, since the men's was so good. read more

I'm still not a fan of Sephora - I find the layout tremendously frustrating and the selection of fragrances very limited. However, for the first time ever at a Sephora, I was treated with a lot of respect. I needed help figuring out which Tarte palette I should buy - and a saleswoman kindly showed me how to use various shades of shadow on her own hand. I was hunting for a specific fragrance, and another salesman offered to look it up for me. While I won't enter the store unless totally necessary - I am now convinced that going to Sephora is not the end of the world. read more

Okay, I was forced to physically go into the Sephora at Northshore Mall in Peabody. I needed something and couldn't wait for it to be shipped. I gritted my teeth, took a deep breath, and entered. Anyway, this is the ONLY Sephora I have ever been in that didn't make me want to kill. Or cry. Everyone was friendly (on a busy Saturday during Xmas shopping season), the woman helping me was knowledgeable and not pushy, but also not apathetic, and made sure I knew I could return the product if I was unhappy. Their return policy really is fantastic. The cashier was even pleasant-and it was BUSY. If I ever need to go into a Sephora again, I will be sure it is this one. read more

Sephora is great because of their rewards program and return policy. For my 500 point reward, I got a great Tarte collection -- mini versions of their best-selling products. Sephora's a fun place to try new things, but I don't use a lot of the testers, because honestly, most make-up is tainted with bacteria. It's gross, but Google it. I just got a great Korres 3-pack of lip balms for a friend's birthday for $20. This brand is awesome. So is Tarte. I'm thrilled that there are more eco-friendly brands to choose from, and Sephora is a great place to try new brands. I love the free birthday freebie they give you every year, too! Two years ago it was a yummy french vanilla sparkly shower gel. Last year it was a little trio of lip glosses. This is mostly a review for the make-up artists as I've gotten many custom makeovers there now as a VIB ROUGE and most of them have been absolutely wonderful. The ladies(have not gotten a gentleman so far) do such good work, especially Jerrylin and Hayley(my favorites). The employees are very friendly and helpful. I have been to this Sephora a couple of times and have always received cheerful helpful service. I wanted to splurge in the store my first time after being out of the country for several years. I went up to an employee and told him I had a list of things to get. Rather than frustrate me with his inexperience in makeup, he did the best thing he could and got a more knowledgeable employee to help me out. This guy was awesome! I wish I remembered his name. He walked around the entire store with me going through my list of brushes, lotions, lipglosses, eyeshadows, primers, etc.. explaining the benefits of each and always giving me about 3 options to choose from based on cost, effectiveness and look. The thing about this was that it didnt take that much time at all! He was so helpful that I was probably in and out of the store in 30 minutes and spent about 250 which could have been much more if he had only showed me the expensive things. I really love this store. I have left the prudential store SO frustrated with their service but I always love Sephora again after going to the cambridge store. If I wanted stuck up help I would go to M.A.C. Thankyou Cambridge Staff for being awesome! I wasn't that excited when this place opened up. I walked by this place and all you smell is the perfume rainbow that awaits you. I work at this mall and decided to stop by during my break. The make-up selection is huge and you can try this stuff on too. They even have applicators to keep the cooties at bay. I have not bought anything yet, but have def tried the products. The only thing is that I think the people that work their are so used to people mooching off the make-up that no one really helps you out. If you know what you are buying this is the place for you and even if you are not why not spend a few hours and try some new stuff. read more

If I could give this location 0 stars, I would. Today my cousin & I went in to purchase a Fenty beauty foundation for her & from the moment we stepped in to the store, we were being followed. It is extremely uncomfortable to shop while you are being stared at by multiple employees & even hearing one of the employees say on her head piece to CHECK THE CAMERAS ON FENTY. We both felt harassed by the employees because they would come up to us every 5 minutes to ask us if we needed help. We knew exactly what we were going in for (we even knew her shade #), we don't need your help especially if we declined the first time. One of the employees (which seemed to be a manager) was hawking us, watching every move we were making as if we were going to steal. When we later when to the Laura Mercier station (which is close to the exit) a security guard was posted right behind us. My cousin did a swatch on one of the Fenty glosses & when we were paying at the register the same manager came up to us & asked us why we didn't take the gloss & where we had put it back? Seriously? It's where we found it, lady. I was highly disappointed tonight because I understand it is 2 days away from Christmas & it's total chaos at any store but there is absolutely no reason to be blatantly humiliated. I have never had a problem previous times I have visited this location & have indeed spent hundreds of dollars at the location too. I was even more disappointed after reading other visitors reviews who experienced very similar behavior from employees. Terrible. read more

There is no praise worthy of the AMAZING customer service that I received tonight at this store! After having someone steal the package I purchased online off my front steps, and having UPS and sephora online say there was nothing they could do for 12 days, I called up the store 45 minutes before closing asking if they could set aside somethings for me and told them my story. By the time I got to the store, not only was everything put at the counter, but the woman that was so helpful when I called had called her customer service number and gotten me a full refund TONIGHT! I almost cried I was so happy. Then Rose, Joan, and Crystal, all helped me pick out a foundation and were so wonderful it has made my week! They also gave me a bunch of samples and showed me the best way to put on my makeup :) I was so overwhelmed by the above and beyond customer service at this store- I can not recommend them highly enough! read more

I walked in here the other day to look for some options for tinted moisturizers and possibly a new foundation. They have a tinted moisturizer that I wanted to try that the Sephora at Pru didn't seem to have. As you know, makeup is SO expensive sometimes, but I don't mind spending the money for products that work. And it takes a lot of knowledge and effort to know which products work for your routine and your skin type. So I think the sales associates' jobs are super important in connecting the right product for that individual customer. But as I walked in the store, no one greet me, and it wasn't even that terribly busy. People even walked by me and didn't bother to ask if I needed help as I was looking. I was in the store for a while casually looking around at other things for like 20 minutes and still nothing. I walked up near the cash register and one of the sales associates even deliberately looked away from me as I was obviously trying to get someone's attention. And then I noticed a woman all the way in the back just arranging products while there are customers who needed help. So I walked up to her to ask her for help with getting a sample. She seemed friendly but then she told me to walk all the way back to the front of the store to wait while she sends someone to help me. I waited for like 5 minutes and I still saw associates just floating around but none of them came towards me. Absolutely no one came to help me and it made me feel really not valued as a customer. Then I was like screw this, and I had to grab an associate who was walking along. She was nice, much more willing to help than the other associates.She actually took the time to help me get samples for like 15 minutes! I appreciated that, but why the heck is it so hard to get help, seriously? But I also have to say she actually wasn't that extremely knowledgeable about the products I was interested in nor did she care to further inquire about my make up needs to customize my experience. I have to say I have had better experiences at Sephora in Prudential. I think this Cambridge Sephora would just be better as a self service store. I think I can get my own samples and do my own research about products better than anyone at that store demonstrated to me so far in a much shorter time without being ignored 10 million times. read more

It's 1pm and I go into Sephora where I previously had a great experience at. I quickly find out that they're out of my product and an associate suggests that I go to the counter to see if it's available at another location. I walk up to an associate standing by the register tell my story and she offers to look for it. I advise that it's not on the floor another associate just looked. She proceeds to hand me back the display and tell me to get in line so that the cashier can help me......ok...... So I ask myself, your clearly aren't doing anything and so aren't the other 8 ppl standing around you so why do I have to wait in a 4 person line???? I absolutely love Sephora I've invested so much time and money into the products I select, (I'm a VIB Rogue Member) I love playing with make up. I usually go to the Sephora in Cambridge Galleria because atm it was the closet location to me. However I will no longer be shopping here, they have a set of new staff members who I do not take too kindly. About a few weeks ago I entered Sephora with a friend of mine it was pretty busy and all I needed was make up remover I walked directly to where it would be located. I grabbed the make up remover and made my way to the perfumes because I've had an itch to buy more of Gucci's Guilty perfume however at this point in time I see a associate making eyes to me and not pleasantly either. I put the perfume down feeling uncomfortable and make ways to my friend who has been having a hard time getting assistance from anyone in the store. She was wishing to get color matched it took her quite a bit time to do and she's darker than I and they recommended her a tan color closer to my skin pigment than her own so we already had issues there. We finally made our way to Laura Mercier products because my friend wished to check it out and possibly buy something for today. I patiently waited with her until I notice that the same associate as of earlier was making stinky faces to my friend and I. I look back to him, he never offered us his assistance I must mention instead he just gawked at us and repeated into his headset/walkie muttering words for someone to come to the entrance where Laura Mercier products are near. Then a woman comes she's blonde and he leaves where she takes his place and I look to her confused then she finally asked if we need help. Great! Just what we needed assistance I let her know that yes we did we've actually been waiting for help for a while because the previous person recommended the wrong foundation shade for my friend...the lady just looked at us and said no that's it... the shade that was three times lighter than my friends actual skin color. My friend no longer wanted her help and just nodded with agreement because this lady clearly has no idea what she's talking about... The lady goes back standing near the entrance AND THEN ANOTHER PERSON APPROACHES US. This time a older man his name is David he was actually polite, he asked my friend if she needed any help she said no we are just browsing because yes we are browsing and we have every intention to buy something. He leaves and walks to the women and I overhear there conversation he askes "who them? they're just shopping?" at this point I know what exactly is going on. That's not even the end of it once I hear that I put my product away (the make up remover) because I am appalled. The man who started all this goes by Arturo. Later on while my friend and I are browsing I later see one of the mall security guys come in swooping around and I shrug it off because it'll be over I ask my friend for us to leave we then enter CVS the security guy follows us in there I've had enough and we leave the mall. Never will I ever shop at the Galleria again. This Sephora location is awful I experienced harassment and discrimination and I do not appreciate it the next day I went back and found Arturo at h&m I tried to approach him and he knew what he did was wrong because he immediately stated "I do not work here" and ran out the store I wanted a civil conversation but instead he was a coward, I filled out a feedback card for the mall and explained the situation to one of the security guards I believe he was the head man and he also agreed to call Sephora myself because this was absolutely unacceptable. I understand the high risk of shoplifting in this particular store however I have never stolen a single thing in my life. Arturo never asked if I needed help he never even tried to acknowledge me and it disappoints me that he escalated the entire situation from me just wanting to shop to assuming I was stealing. I really hope the store see's this review and properly disciplines this man because it took me a month to gather the courage to even write this review. I will most certainly take my business elsewhere. read more

Amazingly friendly staff. I was greeted, asked if I needed help and given tons of compliments! Such a contrast to the Prudential store and I wasn't even making a major purchase; I was actually just returning something. I wish this store was a bit closer to me and I'd go to this Sephora all the time instead. read more

This Sephora has an ok selection but was definitely lacking in the customer service department. I was ready to purchase a new foundation but no one offered to help or even acknowledged me. I asked for a tissue or make up sponge to try some foundation myself and a sales associate looked at me like I had 2 heads before pointing me in the direction of the sponges. I was there in the middle of the day on a week day and there weren't many customers there. The sales associates seemed happy to talk among themselves rather than helping customers. Go to any other Sephora, don't waste your time here. read more
