I like Sephora as a company, but not the employees. When I walk in, they are either talking to each other or just standing there. Professionalism is not there. It's literally common courtesy to at least greet customers/guests. Furthermore, When I am shopping around, I get extremely uncomfortable. I feel as if everyone that's on the floor is looking at me, assuming I am going to take something; so I just walk out of the store with my receipt in hand. Also, most of the help really sucks at color matching/recommendations.I would really like to talk to someone about these conditions or call the BBB because I'd like more positive people in there. I could live without the terrible customer service. Every. Single. Time. I visit, I am ignored. I can be there an hour and not even a "hello". I legit need help. I even make eye contact to say "hi" and everyone ignores me. I understand that I don't "fit" the chic money look, but dang. I finally told the prison ringing me up and she just giggled at the cackle of employees, all behind the counter, who were too busy talking with each other to help. Not even an apology. I LOVE sephora- so much! I have always got the same committed service, whichever location I go to, and the make up artists actually know what they are talking about. I have had some serious make up dilemmas and not once have I felt conscious of that when I am here. Thanks to Sephora, my make up bag looks so good! I usually get Bobby Brown but sometimes venture into the other brands here like "Make Up Forever" and "Sephora" for lipsticks. I also really like the collection of miniature sample sized make up goodies lying along the check out aisle- i have ended up with some really cute make up accessories from here. I go to this Sephora only when I know exactly what product I need to buy, but never again to go and try to find something new. I've given this place 3 tries as far as going in, asking for suggestions and grabbing samples. My last experience was the worst of all. I wanted a moisturizer with an SPF. An associate with very fair skin and pixie hair cut was assigned to assist me and she for 1) told me moisturizers with spf could be used for day AND night and 2) tried way too hard to walk away from me after I asked for my first sample of a product she had shown me. In a nutshell, she was extremely rude and extremely wrong as spf's should NOT be used at night time, ladies and gentlemen. My derm and an associate at the Water Tower location let me know that spf at night is a no no. She wasn't the only one who brushed me the wrong way at this Sephora location. Even though it is more out of my way to travel to the Water Tower location, I will always go back to them to save myself a trip to this crappy Block 37 location. read more

I am a huge fan of Sephora, and I frequently go to Water Tower location to purchase my favorite products. The staff at the Water Tower location is usually friendly and upbeat and I have witnessed the same type of treatment to other customers. However, since I was on State street shopping, I figured I would stop in at this location and shop around and would witness the same friendly, upbeat service. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I saw a manager by the name of Mariam; demean, scold, and patronize an employee right in front of me. She had no regard for me (a customer) being witness to such ugly behavior. I felt so bad for the employee, I can tell she was embarrassed and appalled at the same time. Yet, she maintained her dignity. I applaud her for professionalism. Pretty much the worst Sephora in Chicago. The only reason why I gave it two stars is because I like how spacious this location is. But really, you don't have Chloe perfume? The fragrance section here at this store is pretty awful. Also, the sales associates here are rude. I don't get what their problem is. I asked a girl for help with lipstick and she never smiled, and gave me some 'tude. It's also impossible to find someone to help me out here at times. Also, there was one time when I asked an associate to help me with something and she just left and never came back! When I found her, she was helping someone else. I really like this Sephora. I have been in this store many times and although they are not my #1 store (Y'all know my first pick Sephora front runner!) they are definitely still an outstanding shop with some very talented people. Also, I like the fact that I am greeted once, checked on a couple times and left to browse- Thank you! Nothing worse then being bombarded with 27 people coming from you in all directions asking " Can I help you find something?" Thankfully, I can also find someone when I actually do need help. Enter Alexis= very sweet, natural beauty consultant. I was straight up with her. (Mind you, this was a Saturday afternoon too.) We exchanged pleasantries and I stated, "Look, I just want to sample a couple of products. I'm not going to buy anything today. But I bought a foundation from ____ line & had to return it as it was too dark so I would like to try a lighter one before buying." So, to make a long story shorter, she made me a sample, highlighted my cheeks and recommended this colour of Opaque rouge liquid lipstick that I never would have picked out- Ever! And it looked amazing. I am definitely buying it soon! So we parted and she helped me for a good 10+ minutes. Fast forward and I'm browsing fragrance. I turn and see this huge giganto picture of the woman that just helped me (Alexis) and it's big, like, poster board size. It explains (in detail) that she is a personal consultant (of sorts) and if one would like to book an appointment the price would be a minimum three product purchase totaling $125.00. I thought: OH Yipes! Had I known she was up there on the MUA (Makeup artist) hierarchy - I would not have asked! My whole point is: She was wonderful and super cool and very nice to me - still took her time even though she knew I was not purchasing a thing! So, guess whom I will be booking an appointment with soon? You got it, kitten - Alexis! Now I need the product that she sampled and other suggestions as well. It's time to treat myself. read more

For some reason, this sephora always has what I want in stock as opposed to the ones down Mich Ave. but for some reason, the employees in this one tend to oversee me and ignore me and never help out. If I'm going to be paying so much for products, I expect that they come to me at least once to offer for help. And every time I get checked out, they never think to mention my card or if I need a card (sephora Card). Yes I am a guy but I do buy from them frequently and they should not be biased. There is like 1-2 employees that are nice but I do not stumble with them when I go. I guess I'll just have to suck it up. Management needs to do something about this before they become into a MAC store where all they do is ignore you. I went into this Sephora today with a list of items I wanted to buy and a couple I wanted to try. The SA's were very helpful but not too pushy. I wanted to try the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer because I'd heard such great things about it. One of the SA's helped me for about 15-20 minutes, trying out different shades of it on me and none of them worked. She suggested a Smashbox tinted moisturizer that worked! but they didn't have it in stock. I was very grateful to have an SA spend so much time helping me get color matched, even though the product was sold out. The store is very convenient and a bit roomier than the 2 on Michigan. They seemed to have a ton of travel sized impulse buys in the checkout area. I would definitely go back to this location. read more

I don't like this store at all. I much prefer the Oakbrook or Woodfield location. I only go here bc I work close by. The staff are always rude, they get mad if you ask for a sample and give you enough for one application. How am I supposed to see if a product works for me if I get one days worth? I had some of the best customer service there that I've haven't had in a very long time. I went in looking specifically for an eyeshadow collection that I had seen on their website. I obviously had the look of someone who was searching for something specific so a sales associate asked if I needed help. I gave him a vague description of the product and within two minutes I was holding it in my hands! I then started looking for a new foundation and was browsing the Sephora products when Janet came over to help. She asked me specific questions on what I was looking for in a foundation, what I currently use, and what I don't like about it. She tried a few colors on me and we found a great match. She then gave me three samples of different primers, including the Smashbox one that I really wanted to try! After experiencing horrific customer service from the people at MAC at the State St. Macy's, it was completely refreshing to have someone who was helpful and knowledgeable. But my great experience doesn't stop there. I didn't have my Sephora card on me, so the sales associate looked it up for me. Since there were several people with the same name as me, she asked me my birthday. I told her it was tomorrow and she gave me a nice sized bottle of Philosophy's Happy Birthday, Beautiful shower gel plus two other samples! The only con I have about this place is all the cute trial sized products they have while you're waiting in line. I could easily spend $50 on those alone! read more

Crazy busy- You have to be prepared for tight spaces- and crowds-Block 37- pricey- smells wonderful and mobile pay not working for sales people. So crowded and sort of disorienting. The sales person did walk me to front of line(A++ for her) when mobile sale phone not working but walked away before that to answer questions for another customer until she walked me up. You feel nervous in there and completely trapped in small areas with so many people and narrow aisles. Cologne in the hundreds $$$ a bottle of what I liked at $120 so I bought a roll on to see if I liked it enough to go back for a bottle. Actually so busy I was anxious to leave. read more

Oh newly opened Sephora, you are so convenient to my office! I'd been anticipating the opening of this new location since they signed on with Block 37. Because I had grown tired of looking like the understudy for the lead character in the movie "Powder", I went in search of a sunless tanner per the recommendation of one of my friends. I went in at 130pm on a Monday afternoon and the place was packed. The line for the register was about 20 people deep, which is an immediate deterrent to actually purchasing anything. Since I was on my lunch break, I decided to ask someone for help rather than try and navigate the store myself. The first woman I asked had no clue whether we carried the product or not, so she asked someone else. That second person still didn't know, so they flagged down yet ANOTHER person who was finally able to tell me that they didn't carry this brand, but the Water Tower & Northbridge locations do. She explained that since they just opened, they don't carry all of the brands that the other two stores do but they will be re-evaluating in the weeks to come. Huh? What's the point of having a third location if you're still going to be directing people back to the original stores? Also, I know you just opened and there are a TON of products in that store, but really? It took three people to answer my question? The woman who finally was able to was very knowledgable and was able to give a recommendation for a similar product - so kudos to her. The verdict? The store just opened, so there are going to be some growing pains with staff & store and apparently, a lack of certain products/brands. I'll definitely be checking back in the months to come - the location is too convenient for me not to - so while this Sephora is down, it's def. not out. read more

I liked the idea of going here because it's more convenient to the brown line and so forth. It also feels much nicer than the one at Water Tower Place, with all the dramatic lighting and exciting product displays. I was also introduced by the sales associate to two products I'd never have considered but which have really worked out well for for me: Tarte Smooth Operator concealer and a Sephora Colleciton airbrush concealer brush.. The sales associate was helpful but there was something a little off in the checkout process. It's weird, usually the sales associates are always trying to get you to try stuff and I usually get three samples at checkout. This time, he didn't offer any samples and all I got a checkout was a sample of some janky cologne I'm certain you could buy at Kmart. She also didn't tell me how many points I had or offer me one of the the little things you can get even though I certainly had enough points for it. I was hoping to test out a couple of tinted moisturizers, but it always seems so desperate to ask. I'll have to see what I can muster when I go back to one of the other stores to pick up another shade of that YSL glossy lip stain that has lately changed my life completely. My biggest complaint is that despite being ostensibly larger than the Water Tower Place location, the Loop location doesn't seem to have the selection of products or brands the Water Tower Place location has. I really wish there were a Sephora location here that had a better Illamasqua rack than the one at Water Tower Place, but I guess they're the only ones with Illamasqua in Chicago, other than the Kryolan City store in Lincoln Park. I love Sephora and this location luckily seems to have even newly released products in stock more often than others. What really bothers me though is how little many of the sales associates seem to know about brands and products. It's rare I ever actually ask for assistance, but the few times I have, the associates seem at a loss as to how to answer my questions or give me useless advice. Stopped by Sephora to get some mascara. I usually go to this location because it's close to my part-time job. Usually someone asks if they can help me, but they were very busy yesterday. And that was fine, since I knew what I wanted. The store is well laid out, I pretty much know where all the different brands are. The cashier was very helpful and gave me a flyer showing that sephora "insiders" can get free makeovers and stuff like that. He was polite and patient as I couldn't make up my mind which gift to get with my sephora points. Any time I have any questions, I'm always able to find help. Last time, I wanted to know which lipstick was most long-lasting between the two I picked. I thought the sales lady would want me to buy the most expensive one, but she was pretty honest with me and said the most expensive one was kind of drying. She was really helpful and I was grateful because I hate wasting money on make up. That's why I keep going to sephora. That, and I also love make-up! read more

This was my daughter's third time having her make up done for a dance at Sephora. Every time she does, her make up is flawless. All of the make up artists must be equally talented because she has had terrific experiences every time. There is a minimum $50 purchase charge afterwards (make over itself is free) but buying the lip stick you're wearing & a couple other things gets you to $50 quickly. read more
