Terrible customer service--will not return to this Sephora location. I came in to exchange a birthday gift I received (an unopened eyebrow pencil in the wrong shade) but was met with unprofessional and dismissive behavior. After waiting in line for 10 minutes, an associate asked if I was paying by card and offered to assist me. I explained I needed to exchange an unopened birthday gift but didn't have a gift receipt. She asked for my email/Insider details, which I provided, and then requested the gift giver's email or phone number to link their account. I didn't know this information. She called for support, and another coworker arrived, asking the same questions before bluntly telling me, "Without their information or receipt, they can't exchange it." While I understand the policy, the manner in which it was handled felt dismissive and lacking in basic customer care. At other Sephora locations, I've had similar situations handled professionally and respectfully, with successful resolutions. This was the first time I felt so undervalued as a customer. First off I like their Christmas sampler, that allows you to try a variety of colognes, and is a voucher for usually a 1.6 oz or so product. That's a brilliant idea. Also I really like and value the staff here. This location has really has exceptional employees. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. If you're new or experienced with fragrances, this is a good place to roll to. What bothers me is an opinion. Cramped quarters and often they're out of stock. I'm sure that this being in a mall, must be challenging for ordering. More of my issue is the claustrophobia, and that's on my end mostly. I prefer more "open" stores designs if that makes sense. Visited there in the morning. Super nice staff. I don't really know much about makeup. I'm only a beginner at skincare. I wanted to find out warm/cool for my skin tone so I can go on for my further purchase of makeup products. One staff (forgot to ask her name) was very informative and explained things with ease so that a person like me can understand easily. They offer such a wide array of make-up. Skip out on the drugstore/cvs type of place, and head over to sephora. You can sample just about everything to make sure its a good match for your skin tone. The makeup artists are helpful, but sometimes I am not convinced they really know what they're talking about. Prices are reasonable. Tons of fragrances to chose from as well. She generally knew where the line was between convincing me when I was debating with my budget, versus when I was stubbornly but politely leaning away from her recommendations. Their headset communication system comes across as slightly pretentious, but I can see how it ensures that a staff member is always greeting, or in general zones of the store for questions. Points for hygiene precautions when testing out colors on me. A little cramped, and seemingly small selection of each brand. Small selection of Shiseido (skin care) products, but bless them for carrying Clinique chubby sticks. I work with kids with Autisim- I took a little girl to the mall Sunday (as a treat), went into Sephora and was very lucky to meet manager Kim. She was absolutely amazing in her patience explaining things to my young friend. She was friendly and I could not possibly be more impressed with her patience. I wish I could give Kim 10 stars! Came here with an appointment to have my makeup done for my baby shower this past weekend and I requested Moon and she did an AMAZING job. She found the perfect color foundation, she made my eye color pop (as requested) and she was able to take all of mine and my mom's requests into consideration which couldn't have been an easy task! I also LOVED that she used high quality pregnancy safe makeup for me without me even asking! I cannot wait to come back to her for my next event! Even with all registers open, the line moves insanely slow, and it is apparent that the ladies who work there think they are just a tad bit better than everyone else. I was shopping a few days before Christmas and went to enter the store and was greeted by a rude associate that told me i needed to wait in line. I complied. I waited for 10 minutes while several customers exited. It was not busy at the store. Once I was finally allowed in the store I had another sales associate that was rude to me for rubbing a drop of lotion on the back of my hand. If I could give negative stars, I would. First off, this place is FILTHY and NEVER has anything in stock. I knew what I wanted beforehand, came in, not in stock. The employee said come back next week. I did, still not in stock. Okay, whatever. So I settled for something other than the original item I wanted and there wasn't any on display. I asked the lady if she could find it in the cabinet underneath. Keep in mind, I had to approach them, not the other way around. And not to brag, I was wearing designer clothes with a designer bag and full face of make up so I honestly think that this store is racist. Just because I'm Asian does not mean I'm cheap. As the lady was pulling the cabinet out I see this gorgeous palette that wasn't on display. There was only one so I HAD to get my hands on it. I asked the lady if it was for sale and she said, "no, you can't buy it til the 16th." So I'm like okay... And left the store empty handed. As I'm walking towards the exit of the mall, I strolled into JC penny and saw that there was a Sephora there! I went to the palette's brand section and saw there were multiple in stock and on display. I asked the kind girl at the Sephora there and she said yes of course! I ended up buying it. It is still to my disbelief that the main Sephora staff were so incredibly incompetent and rude. I am a rouge member and makeup fanatic so I'm not afraid to spend the money, but I refuse to spend a dime in that rancid store. Go to the one in JC Penny's instead. Although they have a smaller collection, you get treated significantly better. Also it's very clean and welcoming. Most of the staff were rude, ignored me when I needed help, and forgot to come back when promised to help with an inquiry. They don't even know about their item locations and won't even ask coworkers for help. An item I was looking for was out of stock in one area and I was told it was just out of stock. I went to the cashier area and behold, I found an abundance of the perfume I was looking for. Worst of all, the store is disgusting! There were copious amounts of dust (Did I mention how gross it is to know that dust is made up of a majority of dead skin cells? 75% to 80% approximately!) all over the makeup boxes on the bottom shelves of the NARS section and one of the salesgirl blamed it on the store "being old" and having poor ventilation. Hello, there are dusters for a reason! Has no one touched these makeup products?? Are these just sitting around being sold as old makeup?! This Sephora is within Fair Oaks Malll, and it is cramped. It's annoying to go in when moms are there with strollers because there isn't room to walk anywhere. The new store is incredible. So much space to walk around compared to the old store. The old store was great, just hard to walk around without bumping into someone. I am a total make up junkie! Seriously. I can spend an entire day at Sephora and easily come out looking like Bozo the clown. However the Sephora at this location is a very small/narrow, hard to navigate, and doesn't have any where close to the selection they have at Tyson's! In addition, I think this place is overstaffed. They have too many staff offering to help you out. I just want to be left alone to have my fun! If I want help, Ill ask you, don't ask me! Know what I'm saying? The only good thing about this particular location is Moon!. Moon is one of the make up artist at this location and she is excellent. She has a great artistic flair for makeup and I highly recommend her for a crazy night on the town, or the soccer mom that needs a pick me up. Never go to this sephora. Go to Tyson's one, even go to the Jcpenny one if your have to but never go to this location. I would recommend the Cvs over this location. As many people have mentioned they profile people a lot. Associates following people around the store is pat for the course. Not just people of color, I've witnessed them profile young girls as well. They follow people around the stores as if they are criminals. They also act as if you are a criminal or a con artist if you try to return a product. I bought over $300 of Nars from Sephora. I told the girl who sold it to me that I was concerned about buying powder eye shadow instead of creams (even though I prefer the texture of cream) because Nars has a tendency to break. The girl who sold it told me not to worry, if it breaks I can return it even without a receipt. $40 of that $300 purchase broke the first time I used it. I attempted to return it and even though the girls at this Sephora agreed it wasn't my fault and it was not used and the policy would allow it they would not allow me to return it. This is the second time this happened at this store. They refuse to follow Sephoras policy and treat you like you are trying to one over them when you want to return or exchange a product. They act as if people only return things so they can use the credit to buy new products. By the way, each time I tried to return I had things in my cart that would exceed the price of the sale. I spoke to the district manager about this return issue and the profiling before before, she assured me she would resolve the issue. It seems like she retained the staff and the issues remain. I spend thousands in make up a year, most at sephora. Now I will avoid sephora at all cost. I refuse to contribute to a brand that allows stores like the one at fair oaks to continue on in the direction they seem to be committed to going in. read more

I usually go to the Tysons' Sephora because it's huge and spacious. However, I stopped by simply because it was close to a nearby campus and I needed to get some make-up. So, my friend and I walked in, were greeted within 2 minutes, and were given friendly service...awesome. The service was great but not excellent! They were certainly short on staff that night because the sales associates were running from one customer to another...I'll let that go because it isn't their fault! Anyway, those who are Sephora-regulars know that the prices here are freaking up there...($25 bucks for a foundation brush?! Heck, I bought a 16-brush set from Amazon for just $12 bucks!). And those who are on a budget-diet o_O just be careful what you buy....seriously, you can easily rack up over $100 just from 3-4 items. Oh joy. read more

The one star given is only so I can write this review. The customer service at this store sucks. There is a black (kind of on the heavy side) woman working there that is so rude! In fact a lot of them are rude! And, the store looks a mess; just nasty. The little shopping bags are dirty. Why do some of these folks even have a job? The makeup on some of their faces is never on point; not sure how they became "beauty consultants". Don't go to this location; go to the one inside of JCP or Tysons. I know this review is a little on the harsh side, but in order for these folks to improve on their customer service, they need to realize we are the customers. I really love Sephora. They have a great variety of products, the store makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop, and the staff here are just excellent. There's always someone to greet you at the front and if it's not terribly busy, you can usually snag someone to help you out. Anytime I've been curious about a product they've been completely helpful and I've even gotten several tutorials done here. I definitely like Sephora over Ulta becuase of the primo customer service. The only drawback is you have to go through the mall to get here, which is sometimes a deterrent for me. As long as it's not peak mall time, I'm usually willing. I also love that I can hoard my Beauty Insider points to get the super 500-point perk! The points do not expire. read more

So went in there last night and not one person greeted me or asked if i was ok! I was trying on different foundations and couldn't find a tissue to wipe the foundation off my skin. I found an employee who was gossiping with a coworker asked for tissue and was going to ask for help to find a color to match my skin. The employee rolled her eyes at me grab a tissue and started back gossiping with her coworker. Every time i come into this store i feel like most of the employees are always gossiping with each other there's only like one or two who actually will be helping customers. I had not been to a Sephora in years, so when I went in the other day to buy my sister a gift card, I didn't really know what to expect. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly man who attempted to help me find something to possibly add on and he offered quite a few wonderful suggestions and then left me to peruse on my own. I don't know if it's because the location is so small or what, but I felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of employees there, not because they were there, but because I was approached by every single one of them, some on multiple occasions and they all basically seemed to just want the sale, not to actually help me. I work in retail and I understand where these employees are coming from (making sure customers know you're there to help, greeting, checking in, etc.), but I was very put-off by my experience here. I kept telling them I came specifically for a gift card and that I just wanted to browse and it was like that wasn't good enough and they kept pushing and pushing.
