I've been a Sephora customer for 2 years and accumulated like 10000 points so far. At first, I love it. I can get reward for 100 dollars credit every 2500 points I get. Right now it changes to 50 dollars and I never successfully get the credit anymore. It will just say something like the transaction failed EVERYTIME. The worst of all is my recent experience. I got two samples for a recent purchase and one of them is vitamin C eye cream. I tried it and let's say I've never been allergic to any skincare product so far. Right now my skin around eyes is swollen and red and I have to shoot a portrait tomorrow. I'm very upset and sent a complaint email. The customer service replied and said there can be many causes for this problem and suggest me to go to see a dermatologist for the root cause. I don't change my skincare product frequently and especially these days. Sephora is not taking any responsibility and I have to reschedule my photoshoot. Every brand has its promotion and discount and samples and they're responsible for their own product not Sephora. Girls strongly recommend not to shop in Sephora especially if your skin is sensitive. read more

I was so disappointed in my experience at this location! I've worked in retail my whole life and tonight I wasn't up for an argument and fireworks. I called the day before explaining that I didn't have a receipt for the fenti foundation i had recently purchased (still full) but explained that my pump was defective and that it had exploded wondering if I could exchange it for a new one. A refund was unnecessary because I really love the product and wanted to continue to use it. The night I came into the store to complete the transaction I was met with the "there is nothing I can do" response even after explaining that I had called prior and had been given the ok to come in and get it replaced. I was extremely disappointed after coming all that way there tired after just leaving work. This was the situation I was hoping to avoid! And to top it off the cashier was looking at me like I had just stolen the item even tho I pulled the foundation out of my Sephora bag at the register! This is the BEST Sephora Store that I have ever been to! I went in yesterday morning when it wasn't too busy. The Customer service was amazing. As soon as I walked through the door they greeted me and made me feel welcomed. I came in looking for my favorite eyeshadow primer and not only did Ali show me the primer, but she showed me how to do a smokey eye. This is something that I have been wanting to learn for a very long time. She did an express service for me and now I know exactly how to do it. She was a great help. Her makeup was beautiful. If you ever need a great makeup artist, ask for Ali. I know I will be back to the Hollywood and Highland store because of her. as a girl that wears minimal makeup, i HATE having to go to sephora. every location is about 3 levels too bright and has about 2409845 too many choices. it's overwhelming unless you know exactly what you're looking for. thankfully, during my visit to this particular sephora, i knew exactly what i needed and was able to grab an associate to show me where it is immediately. wait time in line was minimal, which is surprising since this is a busy location. they didn't ask if i wanted to use my reward points, which i didn't even realize i had enough to use until i looked at my receipt at home. all in all, certainly not a store i'd just browse for fun, but they do have all the options when you need makeup! read more

The June 5 Sephora Shutdown is a long time coming: This location used to be a favorite of mine, but clearly within the past 2 years staffing quality has gone downhill. I came here not too long ago to purchase mascara and there was an Hispanic girl in a black suit, long black hair, and black horn-rimmed glasses who helped me. I went to the cash wrap and as I walked out with my bag, she was talking to a couple of people sitting at the Studio Bar and and when she saw me going to the exit, she said, "Who does that black girl think she is?" So because I'm a WOMAN of colour, I shouldn't carry myself with class, let alone buy high-end makeup? It's sickening how this location just speaks negativity behind customers' backs, especially stereotyping them. They even stopped offering me the Beauty Insider gifts at checkout. I love this location! This location has the largest selection I have seen in the Los Angeles area. You can walk in and buy from Pat McGrath Labs collection. I was so happy to test the whole line. Every true makeup lover should have her products in their makeup kit. In addition, this location has amazing classes and instructors. I recently took a class with Jesse, she is awesome. She takes her time to make sure you understand and is happy to answer all your questions. I look forward to taking other classes with Jesse. I'm a sephora VIB member and had a complimentary makeup session for a event I had to go to. I had booked it over a month in advance. I came into this location and found an associate/manager to check in for my appointment. She looked at the list on the iPad and sure enough I wasn't on there. Fortunately I had proof of the appointment on my phone in my email (keep in kind sephora sent me this email a day in advance). She was nice and took me aside to get started on the appointment. I got sent to a guy named Vittorio I think was his name. He looks at me and my face and says you know your face is way too dry, in a rather rude tone. No kidding, I think I know how my face feels. I didn't do anything to my face (except moisturizer) that day knowing I was coming to sephora for a makeup session. So he sends me to the "skin department". The guy does what he needs to then sends me back to Vittorio. Vittorio then sends me to someone else to prep my face. Why do I need another person working on me? She was sweet but went a little overboard on the face makeup. Looked cakey. So I FINALLY I get seated with Vittorio and let him know I have a complimentary session and show him the card. As soon as he knows this is a complimentary session he gets ruder and condescending. "So what do you want to do? (Feeling rushed) I said I want a old Hollywood glamorous look. He rushed the whole time (10 minutes). He spent 10 minutes rushing through on my face. The makeup was just a mess. Nothing glamorous about it. I had brought my own lashes and asked him before he started on me if that was ok. He said well we aren't suppose but I'll do it anyway (in a smartass way). Then he says "you don't want to buy sephora lashes? We are taking the time to do your makeup we do need to make a sale". First, why would I buy it if I already have bought lashes previously. And second, my session is complimentary!! So I get more mad and get ready to leave. I didn't bother have him put lashes on me. I didn't want to stay there any longer than I should I didn't want to deal with him anymore. I went home and redid my makeup. I got more compliments doing my own makeup than what he did. Only reason I give this a 2 star rating is because of the nice associate in the beginning. I love shopping at sephora. I stopped in to this Sephora to purchase a product. When I went to the counter to inquire about the product and was told it was only sold online so I said thank you and asked to have my parking validated. I was told by the cashier that they would only validate my parking if I were to purchase something even though they didn't have what I came in for. I let her know that I have VIB rouge status with Sephora (meaning I spend over $1000/year) and I have for several years and that I had just made an online purchase a few days earlier that would be delivered to my house that day. She said it did not matter and that I needed to buy something in store on that day. I would have made a purchase if they had what I came in for but they did not. These two stars hurt me to give to Sephora. I absolutely love Sephora, and have a VIB card from this location, now that's love:) This review is for the incompetence and terrible service I received from manager Raina or Rayna (she wasn't wearing a name tag) so I very politely asked her for her name, I have a receipt. It all started with a very nice woman on the phone who set up a make-up appointment for me, she gave me great Sephora service. She didn't have a regular Sephora person to do my make-up, but Bobbi Brown make up artists were there, they'll do my make up. I asked if all of my purchases have to be from Bobbi Brown, since I'm more of a Nars/ Make-up Forever girl, but am totally open if I like what the Bobbi Brown people put on my face, but don't want to commit to just one brand, I've done these make up things several times and have purchased far beyond the typical 50 dollar requirement. She said my purchase could be anything from the store. That's exactly what I've done on numerous occasions, so "deal," I said. "I'll be in between 1:15 and 1:30pm depending on how long it takes me okay?" I said. " I will put you down for 1:15pm," she said. "Perfect!" I said. I arrived, again typical great service, welcoming smiles at the door etc. I'm led to a young woman, don't remember her name, she informs me, the woman on the phone gave me incorrect information, that I would have to purchase Bobbi Brown make-up, and that the woman on the phone was new. Okay, no problem, I totally understand, we've all been new at a job, and she was so nice, we all make mistakes, but I drove here based on the information given to me on the phone, any other time, I wouldn't have any issue with it, but I'm the lead in a play tonight, very important night for me. The young woman tries her best to help me out, she gets the manager, I give the store a star for that young woman, she went above and beyond to fix the issue. Well manager Rayna or Raina, descended from her Sephoric throne and was completely unapologetic about the incidence on the phone, which I thoroughly described, and further explained that my intention wasn't to get anyone in trouble, I just wanted someone to do my make up and not commit to just one brand like I was told over the phone. She took no responsibility at all for what I was told, she was not only rude but also dismissive about it and to my shock said to me The real issue is you're late, to add insult to injury, she spoke to me in a very condescending and rude tone. She told me she has two options, she didn't seem to care either way. She would have someone do my eyes and lips or foundation, take it or leave it, was her attitude. Dear, Sephora, The options didn't seem so bad as her delivery, her unapologetic accusatory tone, her rudeness and her lack of care and apathy towards me as a human being, let alone a customer, absolutely terrible personality. Part of a manager's job is to handle disgruntled customers, not speak to them in a rude and condescending tone, especially when your employee gave them erroneous information over the phone, manager Raina possesses no such skill. I decided to just do my own make up. After all she doesn't own Sephora, she's just misrepresenting the Sephora I've come to know over the years, which is why I'm writing this letter. As I was doing my make up, the young woman approached me, she seemed genuine and not dismissive, nor was she trying to cover up fact that the store did in fact make a mistake by giving me the wrong information. unlike Manager Raina, she didn't use sly deceiving tactics by pretending there was an issue with my tardiness, but with the fact that I didn't want to commit to purchasing from just one brand. I responded to her genuineness and her willingness to really come up with a solution for me, even though I had decided to already do my own make up, it is very difficult to deny a person who is coming from a place of love, truth and a place of responsibility. I listened to her and let Kevin do my eyes. Something Rayna was incapable of, handling customers, basic manager duty. Kevin who did my eyes and lips was just wonderful, I give a star for him too. That particular location is a high tourist area, you guys are not suffering for any business there, but your loyal customer base VIB customers like myself, shouldn't be treated any less when we go to these high volume stores, thank you. I guess I'm a tad late with this review as I attempted to do the Sephora survey (listed on the receipt) and it said it was too late. So here goes ... Early December I decided to take advantage of the 20% Coupon. I vowed I'd never shop at the Hollywood & Highland store based on experiences a couple years back. But here I was and so pleasantly surprised as I walked in to be greeted and treated like a familiar face by those on staff this evening. I came in to buy one thing and enjoyed the friendly service so much I decided to linger. Collin ended up picking out an eye concealer and foundation for my hard-to-match skin and I'm thrilled with it. He was so calm and personable and completely changed my attitude towards this location. Not often I am willing to take the time it took to attempt to do the Sephora Survey (please consider this as such) and then go to YELP. Please reward Collin if possible and good job to the management for hiring NEW (or since I've been there previously) 5-Star employees such as Collin. I appreciate his honest opinions in directing me towards products that were most suitable to me rather than just what I thought I wanted. I don't refer to his service as sales but top-notch customer service. And most importantly ... KNOWLEDGE of the products. Thanks again, Collin ... EW! I just came back here to pick up blush and I saw some woman CLIPPING HER FINGERNAILS WITH SEPHORA CLIPPERS!!!! She was letting her nasty finger clippings land on the ground. I almost approached her myself to tell her how unsanitary and absolutely revolting that is to see but instead I went to the cashier to let her handle it. She literally looked over and said "I know, that's gross when I see it on the subway too" she literally didn't care that the lady was 2 feet away from her register clipping her nails with SEPHORA clippers. GOD, I wish I could give less than one star to this particular Sephora. I'm not a picky type of customer. I've been to plenty of places known for not-great service and not even noticed, as I'm more product-centric than experience-centric. But this place is bad: B-A-D!! Took a couple of items to return yesterday. As I walked toward the counter the checker-gal walked back to her place behind the counter (knowing I was there to bring something to her little cash register), but didn't bother to say hello or even smile. She returned to her station and stared at the computer screen as she waited for me. "I've got a couple things to return," I announced. Still not verbally acknowledging me, she began to unscrew the moisturizer, turned her back, signaled to another employee, who came over. They both MADE FACES, curled their nostrils up, snared their lips. The second (and I guess more gutsy) employee said, "I CANNOT RETURN THIS... It's all (lisp) .... clumpy." She then made more disgusted faces, stared into my eyes intently, and basically reprimanded me, insisting the product was "so old." I bought it in February, and I never bothered to return it earlier until - here's the ironic part! - I read on Yelp Century City Sephora reviews that they will take nearly ANYTHING back. Since it was over $50 and I never used it, I thought it'd be worth a try to return the damn thing. Anyway, they both stood there like they were better than me, trying to teach me a lesson about returning products. No one in this store smiled at me once. Between hair, skin, and makeup, I spend over $4,000 a year on beauty products. Since Sephora doesn't think I'm good enough to shop there, I'll just have to pay a few extra bucks at independent beauty supplies, which I prefer anyway as at least a small business owner is making ends meet that way. so here is the frustrating thing about living in a super touristy area: a lot of the shops seem to forget that some percentage of their customers might in fact not be tourists, and might in fact be regulars. that said, you shouldn't necessarily treat tourists poorly either. since this sephora is part of the hollywood/highland mall it's obvious that the staff is more in the mindset of dealing primarily with tourists who won't be returning customers, and therefore they kinda seem like they don't care if you're in the store or not. on one hand this is kind of nice since there are times where i really don't feel like being harassed by the sales staff, but when you sort of feel like you could set yourself on fire in a corner and no one would notice, that's getting into problematic territory. the store is really large and the selection is great, the people working the register are awesome, but the general lack of salestaff is super annoying (especially if you are like me and know next to nothing about makeup). read more

For some reason within the last six months the staff here has either quit or been fired. My make-up guru Jessica is no longer there and I am heartbroken! I decided to give another staff member a chance and got my make-up done for a wedding...holy disaster! Trust me when I say I'm not a picky person but this session was just ridic. My friend and I were already in a time crunch to make it in time for the event and I just don't know how it all went so wrong. Apparently, they were really understaffed that day and my apppointment ended up starting late. I showed the artist 2 very similar pictures of what I wanted. I was looking for a smokey golden/brown look on my eyes to compliment the gold dress I was wearing. She didn't want me peeking at the make-up until she was done (which sometimes I can understand because people can get way too picky before the makeup is all blended together). But how did I end up with blue eyeshadow all the way up to my eyebrows? The session took about an hour and a half (crazy) and I ended up looking like the complete opposite of what I wished for. Disaster. Because of the time crunch I ended up frantically driving home and wiping down the blue eyeshadow off as much as I could. Let's just say my night did not go as smoothly as I wanted. According to my friend, this artist and the one who did her make-up no longer work there. I'm not sure what's going on at this store but they're definitely having issues with staffing. It just hasn't been the same. I continue to shop at Sephora because they have all of my favorite products. read more

this store is great and has a really nice selection. the layout is good, as some of the other ones fell a bit cramped. They staff is always nice to me when I ask for a zillion foundation samples, or have questions about a product. my only real gripe is that the lines are so so so long all the time. but the staffs friendly! the tourists spraying perfume and forgetting their manners as they reach in front of your face constantly, and aimlessly walking around snapping pics gets a tad annoying, but it is Hollywood. U always stop by when im in town for business to get the mini Ole Herkenshire moisturizer. read more

The minute I walked in, I'm greeted by two people who work there. We immediately struck up a conversation and they were so super friendly! Found out one of them was named Shane. My two other friends came in with us. They both wanted new looks. Shane took my friend and fixed the eyebrows that a waxist horribly butchered and also did her eye makeup. Made her look more fabulous than she was before! He was super nice, friendly, and helpful. He's also fluent in Japanese! Went to a fashion show a few years ago here. They served us free wine which put me in a sector a smidge higher than heaven. So they already get stars for just that. I shop at all of the venues and am never disappointed, ever. I joined the Beauty Insider list so I am kept up to date on everything that comes in new. Sephora is responsible for my lust for Napoleon Perdis. His eyeliner is the best. I can never pass up Benefit's Dandelion luminizer. It's trick is that instead of doing the oldschool pinch of the cheeks(it totally works though) brush some of this on your cheeks and right below your eyebrows and you will look fabulous no matter how you feel. Sephora has their own brand of cosmetics that isn't too bad either. The electric blue polish is the best colour and I would recommend the professional brushes. I've had mine for quite a while and as long as you keep them clean they will last. Peruse the website too. They have some great "How To" videos that teach you everything you need to know and they also give you a brief history of most of the brands they carry. From my experience make-up is always a hit or miss situation. What works for you doesn't always work for others. A place like Sephora is needed so that we can test everything out for ourselves. read more

Worst customer service I've ever had at a sephora. Do NOT ask for recommendations, you will spend your entire day waiting for help and then they will belittle you. Had the manager follow me everywhere, that made it really uncomfortable shopping and browsing. I been coming here with classmates since we all are in-the work make up artists. Had never felt this way. She had the nerve to have the whole store follow.me around while I was there, when I was done paying she was standing in a corner waiting for me to leave. Had to go back and let her know how bad she made me feel, I saw them be more friendly to that Michael Jackson impersonater even gave free samples and hugged him. While I was getting followed around. Had to leave, she was just not friendly after I confronted her, which I got to add I did it privately. Not making a scene. Just a bad experience overall, it's the closet home too, 3 blocks away. I love makeup and I love the experience of going to a good store, looking at all the cosmetics lined up and glistening like candies, and then picking out something to buy. That's a pretty hard experience to ruin, but Sephora has managed it--twice! I received a $50 Sephora gift card from a friend and was super excited to use it. I needed a new mascara, so I went into Sephora and asked the saleswoman which mascara she recommended for everyday use. She just said they had a lot of different mascaras. I probed her a few more times for a recommendation and she had no clue about any of the mascaras. Despite the fact that I had a gift card, I walked out, went to MAC and spend 20-something dollars on a mascara that the saleswoman there knew enough about to highly recommend. So, a few months later, I still had the gift card, and I went back in when I was running low on white eyeshadow. It literally took three salespeople 40 minutes to find me a plain white eyeshadow! I love the design of Sephora and the wide selection of brands, but the salespeople there do not know the merchandise and lack the necessary customer service skills to sell high-end cosmetics. read more

This is definetely a shop for all the ladies to kill time. You can try on everything and they won't be eyeballing at you, but they don't seem to know much about the products if you ask them. I am a true beauty junkie and tried pretty much all kinds of products. If you ask which one they recommend, they should ask you about your concerns and your skintype, especially on moisterizers with spf. Instead, they point out to the most pricey ones and say it's the best...blah blah blah. It's not neccessarily the best. Also, customers should not ask for samples. I am a sephora whore and a product junkie. Sephora holds a special place in my heart but not the Hollywood location. I've been to all sephora stores in the surrounding area and every time I visit this specific location I always leave asking myself "why do I bother?" The customer service here is horrible. It seems like all the employees are just standing around gossiping and not working. Whenever I ask for help they seem bothered. The more they seem bothered the more questions I ask. I no longer visit this location unless its an emergency. Usually you can find me at the Santa Anita location where the employees are much more friendlier and helpful. read more
