I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the service at this Sephora location. I recently purchased a dry shampoo, and since I don't wash my hair every day, I didn't try it until two weeks after my purchase. When I finally went to use it for the first time, absolutely nothing came out. I shook the bottle and realized it was completely empty--I had unknowingly bought a defective or previously used product. When I took it back for a return today, I was treated like a criminal. The staff refused to take it back, claiming that because it had been two weeks, I must have used it all myself. The manager was incredibly rude, accusing me of "using up" the product in that time and telling me it was my fault for not checking the bottle immediately in the store or calling the second I got home. They insisted they "always check" products before selling, which clearly isn't true if I walked out with an empty can. Instead of helping a loyal customer with a defective item, they chose to insult my integrity. I've never been treated so poorly by a company. I will be taking my business elsewhere and I recommend others double-check their products before leaving this store, or you might get blamed for their mistakes. read more

I cannot hype up Monique H enough! I walked into Sephora completely overwhelmed. I'm not great with makeup and had just moved, so all my old products were suddenly not working with the change in environment and I had no idea what to do. Monique immediately put me at ease the moment I walked in and she saw the panic in my face. She genuinely listened to every single concern I had and walked me through different foundations, primers, setting sprays, skincare, you name it, until we nailed down the perfect routine for me. She even applied products on me step by step, then I would point out a concern and she would run to grab something else until it was exactly right. It felt like every single product was personalized to me. I was with her for over an hour and not once did she make me feel rushed. It honestly felt like a private beauty consultation with someone who is equal parts kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. She also helped me sign up for the Sephora credit card so I could get 25% off, which saved me over $200. Because of Monique, I left with an entire routine that actually works for me, from makeup to skincare, and the confidence that I can use it all. Personally, I love this particular store bc the staff members are all so very welcoming and super friendly!! There are a few that stand out but don't know their names but overall, they are all so helpful and take their time to help with whatever it is one might be looking for and their beauty advice is always so appreciated! It gets crowded especially when this mall is busy so it's good to also be aware of that but it's an overall FUN and BEAUTY-Ful shopping experience. I accumulate those points so they come in use lol! Lots of variety to choose from. The store itself, might not be as big as other Sephora stores I've been too but to me it's my favorite bc it's more welcoming and easier to find products! :) my daughter also loves coming to this Sephora as she tells me" They are all so cool and friendly, mom!" Also, there is a huge parking lot, which, can make it easier to find parking to shop here. There is a parking fee, according to the timing of how long one parks. I have visited this location several times, and the staff here are always very helpful. It is easy to find staff around to help with any questions you might have. Their selections are great, and they carry a lot of products. The only things they don't seem to carry are the ones on the more expensive side. To my surprise I thought the girl on the phone was going to be rude and tell me that If I wasn't there in 15mins they would have to take someone else, but she did not. She was extremely understanding, & friendly. Most places (MAC & Bobbi Brown) I've booked to get my makeup done if you are over 15minutes they will give your appointment to someone else. While walking in I was greeted, asked if I needed helped right away. The girl walked me to the beauty artist who then introduced me to my makeup artist Alisa. First they asked me a few questions regarding my skin type & the look I was trying to go for my makeup. They cleaned & moisturized my face while going through each step explaining why & when things should be done in order to maintain a healthy skin. Alisa, truly did a wonderful job with my Smokey eye look, she showed me step by step so I would be able to do it myself. It was a great experience. After this visit I feel more confident on what I should be looking for my everyday skincare as well as the makeup I want to apply. I will definitely come back here to book another makeover && when I have any questions regarding any products etc.. Which I always will! The line moved very quickly..Cashier, was very friendly. So I just get done in the city, working out with my hot (wish it was in the pants) trainer and stop at the mall on the way back home. My self diagnosed dependence on 'emotional shopping' was kicking straight into full gear, due to a rather miserable morning (pre personal trainer). All I wanted to do was shop my anger and pissy attitude away. I do a nice warmup in one store, buy some shit, and then press on to the next. Credit card burning in my pocket, I think, 'well, f me, might as well get some new perfume too', so I go to sephora. Sephora happens to be one of the few places that still has perfume bottles out to sample and choose from; for that, I give one star. So I'm standing there in my gym clothes at the perfume section, deciding what sized bottle of j'adore I wanted. My bottle at home was running low, blah blah blah. So get THIS shit. I'm standing there, minding my own motherf*cking business, face mask exposing my nose so I can smell the damn scent. Over walks this looney tune assed looking old motherf*cker who works at the store and he goes "pull your face mask up". Like, how the hell am I supposed to purchase perfume if I can't even smell it?!?! I know that Covi is causing everyone to freak out. And it's pretty sad that these face masks are stopping oxygen from getting into people's f*cking brains, but seriously. Are people that consumed with fear that they can't use rational thought? I went on a Friday afternoon to get color matched and was a little nervous due to my previous visit at another location. However the associate I spoke with was so kind and patient with me. I asked her so many questions and requested for samples as well. She didn't seem annoyed or was rushing off to another customer. If you're ever at this location, ask for Bianca! I've been here a few times and the consultants working the floor have always been so kind and helpful. If I could individually give them all 5 stars, I would. But today I came in to make an exchange and I've never felt more uncomfortable and disrespected by a manager or supervisor in my life. I kept my product I was exchanging in the original bag with my receipts, to hopefully avoid any issues with being made out to seem like I'm stealing. I was very wrong and got the opposite reaction. As I was picking out my new product to exchange, I did make the mistake of slipping a brand new product in my Sephora bag while I was swatching concealer. I already had a shoulder bag of my own and this tiny Sephora shopping bag, so I was just freeing my hands to make it easier on myself. I was immediately ran up on by a supervisor or manager-- didn't even get to check/ask what position she was. She was incredibly aggressive and rude and had me carry a store bag/crate, which is fine and I understand that it may be the store policy. However, it was unnecessary to call for an ADDITIONAL supervisor/manager to also come down to my section and openly berate me in front of other customers. I was not rude or aggressive to this woman what so ever, I was happy to do as she asked and a did. I work in the service industry and would never disrespect someone just for doing their job. I get it. But I was chastised and openly ostracized in front of other customers just to get two products. That I paid for. I was watched by her THE ENTIRE TIME, pulling other employees on the floor to talk about me and "keep an eye on me." I did not steal and know better than to do so. I made my exchange AND PAID. But was made to feel like a common criminal. I wanted to stop supporting Sephora and corporate brands all together and this was meant to be my last final purchase with this company. Literally YESTERDAY at a different Sephora when I made a $200 purchase I was told I could exchange/return a $100 item for store credit even if it was purchased during COVID over 60 days ago (I didn't have the item with me). This particular location is very close to my home and hence convenient. However, as this location does not carry some of the brands i use, I mostly visit the wtc location or order online. I never had any issue with customer service (purchase/returns) and always found the associates very helpful. I am a foodie but really suck at make-up. So I registered for a make-up class at Sephora and decided to take my chances on how this 90 minute contour & highlight class will turn out for me. This was a really nice experience for me and even though I turned up 15 minutes late, I was not shown the door or spoken to rudely. The best part was these classes take place before the store opens so you literally have the entire store to yourself! That felt super luxurious to begin with! There were 5 other girls apart from me who were present to take the class. Alejandro along with Natasha and Tiana were the instructors-artists and they were super patient and very hands-on while teaching each technique. They were super helpful in answering any and all questions anyone had about a particular product or technique. After the 90 minute sessions, which went so quickly, each of the students were given some cool samples and had the store to ourselves to shop around before the doors were opened to the public. I am pretty sure, this is not true for all Sephoras but it totally made me feel so important :) read more

This Sephora is very small, however the workers in here are very helpful. You don't have to beg someone to help you as most sephoras in NYC because associates greet you upon arrival. Manager is apathetic and useless. Worst Sephora store ever! Last night I went to the Newport Mall store and spent an hour selecting $500 worth of products. I go to the register to pay, and what is the lone cashier doing? Giving skin hydration tips and pouring samples. For 15 minutes. While the line gets longer and longer. No one is being rung up. A second cashier finally shows up. And the person ahead of me goes to them and .... asks for help with something on the floor. So he leaves. Seriously. A retail store with no one ringing up sales. So I leave the line to go and ask another employee to please do something. He asks me to wait. Uh, I've been waiting. And waiting. And waiting. No thanks, here's my basket with $500 worth of make-up. I decide to go to Macy's. On my way to Macy's, I start to get ticked that I spent an hour trying out new products and selecting the items I wanted to purchase and decide to call the manager of the store. I get put on hold for 9 minutes. The manager finally gets on the phone, and I am fully expecting to hear her say "It's unacceptable that no one was ringing up any customers for over 15 minutes. Please return to the store (I was 100 feet away) and I'll make sure someone rings up your purchase." Boy, was I wrong. The manager said I was "unreasonable". Because I expected that a retail store would have an employee working the register. There aren't enough eye rolling smilies in the universe for this. Then she tells me that I don't understand their "policy". What policy would that be? The one where your store is too special to have anyone at a register ringing up sales? Great business plan you got there! Have people select products they want to buy, have them wait at the register and then don't have anyone actually ring them up. Leave them standing there until they get sick of it and leave! Then when they call the manager, have the manager insult them! Why, it will make a fortune! The first store ever that lets you select goods but has no system in place to let people pay for them! Awesome! So I call corporate. They promise to have someone call me back. No one does. I go to their Facebook page and post a discussion detailing what happened. They remove it. I post on their main page. They tell me they are sorry and have sent me an email. Well, it's not in my inbox. Awesome manager you got there Sephora! You should be really proud that she managed to take a loyal customer who spends a minimum of $3,500 a year in your stores and then "manages" to completely alienate them! ************************ Update 10/06/2014 Just goes to show how one really bad experience can turn a customer off completely and affect spending in a business. My Sephora purchases this year totaled less than $400.00 (Bobbi Brown shadow $65, dryer $250, and a few lipsticks), while my overall beauty and cosmetics spending remained the same. I'm a little surprised this location has such bad reviews. I'll own up, I'm a VIB Rogue, which basically means I spend WAY too much money at Sephora. But because of this, unless I'm trying a product out, I rarely actually go into a physical store anymore. But, this review is about the make over/beauty services only. I wanted my make up done for a wedding I was attending, and because Sephora did such a good job on my make up when I was in California, I decided to take a chance on the Jersey City Sephora. As a control freak, I did consider cancelling my appointment like ten times... but I figured I had given myself enough time to wash off the make up if I did end up looking like a drag queen. I arrived at my appointment on time, and got set up with Damien. He listened to what a I wanted (neutral smokey) and did an amazing job! The only constructive criticism I would add is I warned my skin was SUPER oily... and while my make up for the most part stayed, the eye shadow primer did not hold up. Damien was super friendly, good conversation. He gave really good, honest advice, which, as a very blunt person, I'm always appreciative of. I'm now trying out a new mascara because of him (Yay Josie Maran!). Also, he gave me a super honest answer regarding if I should try out (for the first time) false lashes. We decided to forgo them this time around. BUT, I always scheduled another appointment for a Halloween party, and plan to wear them then. It seems like whenever I go there to actually ask questions about products that I want to purchase the sales people seem to have no interest in finishing the sale. I recently went in to look for a lipstick of a certain shade, which I can understand might be tough but come on.. finish what you started. As they showed me the closest color they have to what I wanted, I asked to try it on, she cleaned the lipstick, I try it on, and she's gone and onto a different customer. I completely understand how some people may come by ask questions and leave without purchasing but you cannot assume everyone will be that way. It was such a turn off that I left without purchasing the color along with other products I wanted to get. I would really only use this location to buy products that I already know and love but not to go in there and get something new. I rather take a drive and go to other locations. read more

Let me start by saying how much I love Sephora, their customer service standards, the services they provide and the product they carry. However, it seems that the Sephora inside the Newport Center Mall in Jersey City, NJ is in a class all its own (this does not apply to the Sephora inside JCP in the same Mall..they are fabulous!!). I had boycotted this location for over 3 years because of repeated negative and even rude experiences. After 3 years I tried again. Once again I was not disappointed by their consistency. The service was nonexistent and insulting. In the course of 2 visits (each at least an hour long) I received not one hello, received NO help or offer to help, one sales associate snapped at me for entering an area she was working in during a peak time on a Friday, a cashier told me I couldn't return an item with an e-receipt then grabbed my phone from me and pulled my headphone out of my ear and was brushed by a couple employees and one slightly knocked into me as she rushed around me with obviously no acknowledgement or apology. So, needless to say, I'm permanently DONE with this location. I will continue to travel out of my way to go to any other location but this one. It is a shame because this location is within walking distance from my residence. I have continually filled out the company's surveys about my experiences here and always get a message that the will contact me within 48 hours. This has never happened. I've spoken to the store manager and it was clear where these problems stem from and why they are not fixed. I've also called Sephora's customer service department to explain my experiences. But somehow this problem in this particular store persists year after year after year. This store reflects so poorly on such an amazing company, why can't it be fixed? read more

If I could give this Sephora negative stars I would! My friend and I went there because it is convenient to our work with the sole purpose of her finding a few different shades of lipstick. The store associates did not look our way even once and did not ask us if we needed their help. We literally spent about 30 minutes trying on and choosing lipsticks and during our entire visit not once did a store associate come over to check on us. They were too busy adjusting their makeup and admiring themselves to be bothered with us. As a matter of fact the only person who attempted to assist us during our visit was the security guard who adjusted one of the mirrors for my friend. He was the only pleasant one. I am a VIP member so I printed out and brought with me a few in-store coupons and the helpless manager, who was also of no assistance told me that my coupon can't be used in store. So where exactly should my Sephora in-store coupons be used? What a joke! These store associates and the manager need to go back for basic customer service training as they definitely lack this skill. Stay away from this place! I'm sorry that I don't know her name..but the blonde lady who is always in skin care is AMAZING!!!!! She is an absolute doll and every time I am there she comes right over and asks if I need help or a basket. She is also very educated on the products and has turned me on to some great ones! In a general way I love Sephora. This location is a bit oddly laid out, however. That makes both getting around the store and finding certain things a bit tricky. Displays are faced in many directions and sometimes you go around the end of one display and run into someone looking at a different display that is perpendicularly placed. Rather odd. Service is ok, but they usually could use more staff than they do have. Not the best Sephora location, but a good one.
