I've been shopping at Sephora for so many years, probably since 2004. This one is just okay, like other people say it's deceptively small but they do seem to have the core female products/brands. So this location just gets the job done! It's now next to a target, and I'm not entirely sure what the point is of being a VIB with the special Sephora credit card if no one working there is really going to remember to give me any gifts for my points. I spend thousands of dollars here and these fake VIB situations aren't sustaining my business. Especially since Duane reade has higher end products now. I might just stop coming here all together, the perks don't add up and all these people care about is saying goodbye to you when you leave the store. read more

Great location to have a Sephora, very convenient by 456 train. UES location doesn't carry all brands unfortunately, no display of popular brands like Huda Beauty. Staff is hit or miss, some aren't willing to help, others spend enough time with you to explain what you're looking for. They're not always good at color matching. Don't buy Sephora gift cards online. Sephora has two different lines--plastic and ecard. The two departments are separate and make numerous errors. For example the card for my granddaughter which was to be sent to Mass. was sent to me instead. The amounts for the cards vary by the type. For example, you can purchase a $40 card but not a $40 e-card. In short, this is not an easy way to purchase a gift card. Walk to your local drugstore and purchase a Visa card instead. * read more

Today I stopped in Sephora on 86th St and Lexington. I was looking for a product someone recommend ito me by Fenty beauty. Given that I was going to buy a new item I had questions However my experience was horrible No one greeted me and asked if I need help at all I was I the store for a good 15mins and had no help but what did happen was that the staff had all eyes on as if I was not welcome or was going to steat something. One staff male did come a say hello to put an item back on the shelf where I was testing products never asked to see if I needed assistance. Needed to say I did not buy the item I can for due to the unwelcome experiene I had. This reminded me why I shop online and Amazon. I will never shop at this store or any sephora again. I have been profiled a few times in my life and unfortunately, today was just another one of those days. I came into the store wanting to smell a few fragrances as I am a major fragrance enthusiast and I just love them. Not even 30 seconds later after I go to the fragrance section someone comes out and asks me do I need help, which was completely normal and fine. But then, it was another person and an additional person all within 5 minutes of me being there. I'm clearly going around sampling the fragrances so I'm not just aimlessly walking around confused. But still person after person kept coming up to ask me if I needed assistance. The reason why I felt profiled is because there were multiple women around me actively looking for assistance and they could not seem to find anyone and no one came to check on them. One lady was literally even yelling out for help because she wanted to buy one of the fragrances but nobody was around, yet somehow every minute that passed by it seemed like they had time to come over and ask me if I needed assistance. The reason I am giving this place a 3 star instead of a 1 star, is because the person who completed my transaction after I found the fragrance I wanted was super nice, patient, and was easily the best customer service rep that they had in the entire store. So, everyone can thank that person for saving my experience at this store because I probably would have never even considered returning after today. read more

The last experience was a much inviting experience. The staff was more available and the cashier ringing me up was very nice. The makeup area was being cleaned when I arrived and the beauty advisor/artist in that workspace was attentive and asked if I needed any help. I think it's fair to give an update when it's due. Sephora is a "go to" when it comes to my fragrances and also one of my favorite cosmetics retailers. I got everything I needed for the holidays and I used my 20% off (Beauty Insiders.) The displays were my favorite part of the visit. My daughter and I have never had other than a pleasant experience in this location. Free WiFi and gifts if you are a reward member like my daughter. I recently was informed they have a section for men's cologne. My daughter was exploring with her date! Sales representatives are polite and helpful. I would beware of testers for lipstick or other face products. There was a segment recently on the news. You don't know who has what disease when you use the tester. My mother taught me to take the lipstick and dab a little on the back of my hand. So my advice is purchase wisely, join rewards clubs, and be mindful of possible areas where you may become infected!! read more

I have not come back here since the last disastrous experience with management following my friend and I around like a group of hawks as if we are two criminals about to tear the entire store down. I have spent so much money here, but I stopped entirely after that experience. I used to shop here so many times after work, but if I can't even bring my friend into the store with me, what's the point? Isn't the whole point of shopping to find something that makes you happy and bring others with you? But no, it's all about profiling shoppers. Bold and wrong. I just remembered a fellow shopper during my last visit who was also being followed around for breathing and being a person of color. My friend who was with me peered over at her and because she had noticed that she too had been followed around, she thought my friend was following her around when we were both shoppers. She exclaimed, "I know y'all are following me around. Why?!" She then left. This is one reason why people don't feel comfortable shopping at traditional brick and mortar retail stores. Many of us aren't welcome, management goes *so* hard in surveilling & thinking we are brainless and can't tell, then we leave, with or without a purchase, remembering an awful experience. That is what I associate Sephora with. They want a certain complexion for clientele. Otherwise; we will watch you with bulging eyes and preconceived notions. Definitely not a pro when it comes to makeup but this location is the one I tend to visit the most since its so close to my job. I wish the staff was a bit friendlier and a bit more helpful. Some of the girls are great but a lot of them are just rude and not very helpful. This location can get extremely packed as there are a few other stores near by ( ULTA is opening soon, so they'll definitely be in competition) so try to go early and not during rush hour or you'll be on the line for quite a long time read more

She took my inspiration photo, my request to only use clean makeup, and was highly knowledgeable about the products. Winter Bear and I came to get a few essentials. We had to wait before we went in. They took our temperature and made us use a hand sanitizer upon entry. We were able to walk around and no one really stopped us or asked if we needed anything. I noticed there was a section where they were allowing people to test a few things but a staff member puts the product on a tester appliance for the consumer to try. They didn't have the kit I wanted in stock so, I can't speak for the checkout process. I came here last Friday to return some things and had no issues at all. As I approached the store, I noticed an employee outside with someone else with hand sanitizer, providing details about the new COVID-placed rules. Hand sanitizer, if you want. No more samples, no more trying on the products (if I remember correctly) and we will not put the products on your face. Went straight to the cashier line and not everyone was really following the 6ft rule, which made me a bit anxious. Regardless, the cashiers had plexiglass. Also, what impressed me was after each customer, the employee will wipe down the plexiglass and the CC machine. Even the security guard greeted me hello & goodbye. Not a great experience here! Shelves are dirty, have hair on them, and makeup everywhere of course. They should do a better job cleaning this place-- I can understand some of the trials being messy, but to have shelves coated in dust??? I walked into Sephora going to purchase 8 items and had to swore I walked out with only 7. I got home and realized only 7 items where in my bag and called the store and was told they would review the footage. About 40 minutes later I was told there was footage of all 8 items being placed in the bag and that if I wanted to see the footage, I would have to go through the police. Well. I can never get enough of this place considering my habit is buying Tons of makeup. Came in today for only kat von D eyeliner left with 2 more items (oh boy!). I enjoy the feeling I get coming into any Sephora me being a VIB member I get lots of perks (of course u have to buy to get points in order to get the perks) anywho, i love the fragrance section which is another one of my habits is buying perfumes. It scares me because before entering I always say to myself (ok Ana your only going to buy this and THATS IT!!) That never works. I always spend way more then I intended to but it's worth it. This place is hit or miss. First of all, I like my makeup and I spend a lot of money in here, but with the teenagers working here on the floor... they avoid my friends and myself while in here like the plague and it's actually comical watching them flip cartwheels over other kids in here. When we are the ones that they should actually help, as we are buying items and typically easier to upsell. I've been in here 3 times in the past week and not one time was anyone helpful or did anyone ask me for help, instead I walked around with my hands full... and moved from station to station trying on new products. I understand why Ulta opened just a few doors down now. They knew they could steal their business because of the lack of attention and help, yet there are tons of people that seem to be working here... so, it's stifling to get to pay and there are only 2 people at the cashier area. Lol. I still come here, but prefer Ulta now because the people are actually helpful and I got more great samples and some items are cheaper, which I've actually done a comparison on prices and walked to Ulta and saved over $15. Odd, right on the same products. I'm happy they're carrying Charlotte Tillbury now, which will keep me coming back. I usually shop (or at least stop in) at Sephora once a week , I somehow still have over 4K points and I've managed to curate most of my Sephora experiences at the UES location on 86th street more so than any other location. With that being said, this store has offered me horrible service plenty of times, to the point that I thought I was being a typical, entitled customer and the problem was me. Turns out, I was half right. I've had to return to the "stage" to return a product multiple times simply because a product given to me by a "cast member" was in the wrong shade, finish, etc. ***remember people, Sephora is not a store, it's a stage (staff is cast, uniform is costume, etc.)*** I've been denied all of the free services consistently and to this day, still have not been able to get a mini brow makeover, mini facial, etc...however, I never have a problem getting a perk facial or makeover when I make the appointment to drop a minimum of $50-$75. Ironically, my avg trip is $100+, so I love that no matter how full my basket is in person, there is always someone too busy to help me when it comes to the complimentary mini "walk-in" services. My questions are typically answered to my satisfaction about 75% of the time and I must say, I usually never have a problem at least getting someone's attention to actually ask the question first. Due to the difficulty of receiving these "complimentary mini's" or concise, straightforward advice from some cast members, I decided to 1. Be more nice (if you want more nice, be the nice you want to see) & 2. Evolve my consumer agency Meaning - utilize the app, do your product research, know your ingredients, research the brand, identify key words, and develop clear questions. People are people, if you expect a person making $X an hour to answer your every question; flawlessly, EVERYTIME; you've set yourself up for disappointment and you deserve it as well. After a change in perspective and action, I've still had some poor experiences at 86th St. Sephora but my great experiences are now at about 85% and I'm cool with that. Sometimes I, myself, am 100%, sometimes 90% and other times 50%, that's life (especially in New York). With that being said, I still love the 3 worlds of Sephora the same as my first day walking in the store; 86th street has its gems: Mureema in skincare & Connie in color cosmetics are simply AMAZING at what they do and how they do it. Last but not least, if you don't like 86th street Sephora, remember this: "Want a new result? Try a new approach" 60th and Lex + Williamsburg location are well stocked with an expanded repertoire of brands (compared to other locations). I'll admit to getting my scent on when hitting the local Sephora in my hood. So easily located right near the 86th and Lex subway stop. Sure, this is basically a woman's hang, but they also offer a killer selection of men's colognes too. Occasionally I'll drop in on the way home from work or before heading out for the night, sniff a few samples, and spritz on a bit to smell all sexy and fresh. Also, be nice to the staff working this section and score some freebie travel size samples to take home. Score! They give you the good stuff too if you ask nicely. Just never be "THAT' guy who smells all nasty and reeks of B.O. Never be that guy. read more
