I came into this location looking for specific items (Sol de Janeiro, etc.) and retrieved them. The cashier allowed me to use my Sephora credit card virtually. In other words, despite me not having the physical card on me since it was still being mailed, I managed to apply it to my overall purchase. The customer service in this location is an absolute nightmare.. the store changes its lay out quite often which is fine.. free will I guess do what ever pleases you but.. at least help people when they ask you for help.. went there looking for a kosas product.. wasn't able to find it so I tried getting the employees attention.. said excuse me if I remember well to at least 5 employees which all resulted of them just walking past me like I do not exist... especially the skinny guy with the pink hair.. looked me in eyes and just walked past me.. idk why but whatever.. ended up finding the product by myself.. after about 20 mins of just wondering like a lunatic in the aisle.. This Sephora store is so crowded and overwhelming but super easy if you know what you want. I needed new mascara and had the salesgirl point me in the direction but she wasn't that interested in helping me. I bought some overpriced YSL mascara that is super clumpy so that was disappointing. The shop was originally located across Union Square under Barnes and Nobles. This location is much smaller, cramped and yet under stocked. Customer service is spotty,the displays are grubby. Save for terminating a problematic sale associate (or two) there is nothing management can do about surly customer service reps with a chip on their shoulder. But y'all aint got a broom? Wipes? to clean smudged mirrors and grime from the well worn displays? It's a tight squeeze inside, walking through the store to search for what you need forces you to bump into displays, other customers and the client service reps. The scent of cheap,synthetic cologne is overpowering to a sickening degree. The smaller space makes the fragrance more overbearing? Music? BLASTING! Yesterday I went to Sephora to pick up gift gifts for a loved one and I was not in the store at all. There were at least four maybe five sales people in the vicinity of fragrances where I was looking. I spent some time looking at different things and needed some help however, not one person who saw me looking and was available helped me. As a black woman, I saw there were some black sales people, and they didn't even acknowledge me. So I picked out a few sets from other things and when I got to the counter, I got a gift card. When the cashier asked if anyone helped me, I explicitly told her no and that it was very disappointing to not get any help . This tends to happen in many Sephora stores. I worked as a sales person many years ago and I always made it a rule to acknowledge each and every person even if I said hello and let them know if they needed help I would be willing to help it didn't matter if they even bought anything or if they bought one small in expensive I still went out of my way to acknowledge them and make them feel good about coming into the store. I am definitely going Post another review on Google and Contact the corporate store and tell them that they have to change the culture for Customer especially around the holidays and those who are looking but maybe need assistance. read more

A while back I went to the location near the Barnes and Nobles, you can read about my previous experience. I'm now at this relocated location and somehow it's still bad but not as bad. If you need help you should ask as surprisingly other locations people are around to assist. The foundation I was purchasing was not available on the display. When I did flag someone for help I was assisted. It was the checkout that did it for me. There was only one associate at the register. After waiting for a while another associate came to open a second register. This was with the line wrapping beyond the "statchion" . They then had card only checkout which was good. My final grievance though was that the associate was not aware of the points multiplier which often times at other locations the associates tell me about it. read more

You're better off shopping at the flatiron location! Staff is much nicer and they actually know how to operate buy online, pick up in store. I placed a pick up in store order but it wasn't ready after a few hours. I found the items in the store myself to ask an associate if they could fill my order. I believe I spoke with one of the store managers as she was looking down at a schedule and she was very rude. Told me to wait in the long line and just cancel my pick order as "they have hundreds of orders to fill outside of mine so she can't help". I understand she is overwhelmed with the holiday season but no need to take it out on a customer! read more

I booked a "beauty lesson" at this location not expecting a miracle, but hoping to learn a few tricks. The artist who worked with me was super kind and seemed to be trying her best. Her demeanor was very professional, she put real effort into my makeup, and I appreciated her willingness to revise her work, but the result (as pictured) was disastrous. This is not the work of a professional, and shame on Sephora for advertising it as such. The "beauty lesson" that I learned was to never book a service at Sephora ever again. I have been here a couple of times to look around and it's a pleasant location even though it's a busy one. I did feel like one of the perfume attendants thought I was trying to steal a bottle which was off putting but the perfume area gets packed and crazy sometimes so I kind of get it. Walking into this Sephora felt less like a beauty boutique and more like crashing a high-school clique. The employees--lounging about as if customer service were beneath them--managed to make me feel like an intruder in a store I chose to spend money in. Lazy, sassy, and utterly unbothered. Line for check out isn't too bad if you don't going during rush hour - i.e. lunch or after work or during holiday rush. You can order ahead for pick up as well. If you're not a, Beauty Insider, what are you waiting for? There are different tiers depending on how much you spend annually. If you shop here often, sign up and get points for purchase (gift cards don't count as the recipient would get the points). Save up your points to collect one of the higher tiered gifts or events. I came here recently to pick up some travel size items for my trip. The store had a few people walking around. I did see a few reps around but most of them were talking to themselves. I was able to find what I needed and join the checkout line. There were a few cashiers on staff but the line moved very slowly. It took the cashier 10 minutes to find my account even though I shop at Sephora often. It took her another 15 to figure out how to process credit card payments. I am not sure if she was new but I feel she should have more support if she needed it as she clearly needed more help. read more

This is my second time at this location. This store has a decent variety of beauty, body, and hair items. I stopped by today to get a lipstick I was looking for and have not been able to find, and sure enough, they had it. This location is a nice size and it's clean, Many Sephora locations fail at being clean.. I even saw an employee fixing up shelves and putting items back in place. read more

I would love coming to this Sephora. Even though it's always crowded I would always be met with nice helpful employees. Recently, as I was looking back on receipts I saw I was taken advantage of on my birthday. I don't know if this was on purpose but it's very likely. I purchased one item and was charged twice for the same item. I went in wanting to try something new regardless of the price and now I find out it was way less expensive than I was charged. I went to this sephora about 3 months ago. I walked in looking for a gel to slick back my hair. First of all, so crowded and overstimulating. I felt like i coudlnt breath. I could not find any gel, so I asked a worker there. he recommends me "sumotech flexible lo-shine creme solid" I bought for $40 USD. i took the product back to my hotel, used it and boy was i dissapointed. For the amount of money i spent of this, i was expecting something spectacular. It made me feel like my hair was going to rip out from how clumpy it was. And worst part, It barely helped my hair stay back. It took 2 washes to get this product fully out of my hair. You could say it was pure wax. DO NOT BUY THIS. read more

They're often out of things. I found a great color in their house brand and they were out of it. One of the sales clerks found a similar color in a much more expensive brand and put a lot of pressure on me to buy that one. They even found me a coupon but I ended up spending over double the original price and I don't even love the color. read more

It's VERY frustrating that the lines are always ridiculously long , wait time is horrible. The staff, they are great but the manager needs to be on the floor more and realize how to manage their staff. 2 people for a line that has wrapped around the station. Aesthetician Tyler was great and assisted me in finding products that best fit my skincare and makeup needs afterward too. Had a really great experience using an electronic gift card on a Sunday early afternoon. It wasn't that busy so it was an easy breezy experience. Everyone was so helpful. An employee took a close picture of my skin to identify the best shades of concealer for me which was super helpful. Was easily able to test out shades on my forehead and arms. SHAME on Sephora for not having an extended Christmas return policy. A store credit after 30 days does not qualify as an extended return policy. We can all shop for the same items at many many stores with a real extended policy. Bloomies, Nordstrom, Ulta, etc. And they all have on-line sites. I've been traveling all week for work and forget to pack some essential skincare items and went to Sephora on Saturday in Union square. I was helped by a beauty rep (Fenty) and she was so helpful and transparent with all the beauty and skincare advice, she even gave me tips on how to maintain my curly hair when traveling in different climates. I might be spelling her name wrong but she was a tall, beautiful black woman name Janice or Jamese . A few items they didn't have in stock so she showed how I can do pick up order from the nearest location (flatiron) within the hour. NYC can be spicy when it comes to personalities but, she was so refreshing and put me in such a good head space with my hectic day. I enjoyed our conversation. She was great! read more

Other associates in the store looked like they wanted to avoid me as much as possible, which deterred me from asking product questions. This Sephora location is sooo packed! Which is surprising because it's in Union Square which is relatively quiet compared to the Times Square location. Anyways, my friend (VIB Rouge) came here because she had a 45 minute makeover reservation at 5:30. I (Beauty Insider) came along with her in hopes of getting a 15 minute makeover on my eyes but also suggestions on a foundation. I know every makeup-lover agrees with me when I say this, it is absolutely impossible of walking out of Sephora without a bag in your hand no matter how small or large of a purchase. So, anyways, one of the makeup artists roped me in on buying a foundation and then told me if I bought something for $10 I can also get a full makeover...which is exactly what I did. I told her I wanted her to beat my face because I was going out at night, and she did AMAZING. This Sephora was my playground for many years when I worked in the area, but today I came for one thing and one thing only--FENTY. The products were waiting for me at the doe. An ad at one entrance and the actual products at the other entrance (as all Rih Rih products should be). I managed to squeeze through the ecstatic crowd of teens AND get not one but two sales associates who were happy to help, answer questions, and apply 'Trophy Wife' highlighter on for me AND left me with some application tips. I ended up getting the universal Lip Gloss Bomb and Trophy Wife highlighter. The associate at the Fenty beauty pop-up check out line (she had purple hair) was so gracious and pleasant despite the crowd. Okay so this location is always super busy!!! It's not the fault of the workers that they can be spread thin. That's why I still would rate the experience 4 stars. I went in for a few items. I had a free perfume certificate that was valid for a few options so a man helpfully gathered all the perfumes on my list and brought me spraying papers so I could sniff and compare. I did spray them myself whereas at a department store they might do it for you but no worries. After I decided, another employee retrieved my select and brought it to the register for me. She even gave me a few suggestions for foundations. After I went to those sections, I had some trouble finding someone who was available to help. When I did flag down what appeared to be the shift manager, she called for someone to help me out for a foundation color match. It took maybe 8 minutes because they were so busy. Again, not her fault but I did have to wait. The same perfume section employee ended up being the only one available but she gave me excellent recommendations based on my need and tested them out on my hand and face. Even suggestions on the type of tool to use for application (I chose a Sephora version of the beauty blender). After I went home, I tried the foundation on my entire face while using the sponge and it was a PERFECT match. I also picked up an innisfree product for 100 points and got $10 off using 500 points. The register line was fast and efficient although I had to bring up that I was a member, otherwise I would've accidentally gone through the transaction without getting my points. That in combination with the busyness makes for a less than perfect score but the individual employees are excellent. read more

This is my go to Sephora location so which makes my recent experience so frustrating. I went in looking for Youth for the People's red mask, I don't know why but I couldn't remember the brand's name. An associate came up to me and asked if I needed help. I told her I didn't remember the brand but it was the very popular red mask, she led me to an item that was completely not what I asked for, but it was definitely more expensive. I explained with more detail the brand that there is no way she did not know what I meant, she then showed me an even more expensive product. It was never about the money, I can easily purchase any of the brands she wanted me to buy, but YFTP's red mask is the only thing that works for my skin. By then I could see what was going on, but fortunately I spotted the YFTP section, and no longer needed her "help." I understand wanting to earn a higher commission, but earning it like this is borderline unethical and a waste of customer's time. To make it all worse, I then waited easily over half hour on line because of the after 5 rush. This experience just really put a bad taste in my mouth and not sure I would return. read more

I have nothing but love for the Sephora. It has all the brands I need (yes, need) especially YSL and Guerlain, which some Sephoras do not carry. Depending on where you enter, you're greeted by cosmetics or fragrance. They have an impressive skin care selection, with all those brands I need (yes, need) such as Caudalie Amore Pacific and Origins. I like the set up of this store. Employees, or "cast members" in Sephora lingo, are eager to ring you up via mobile device, if you're using a credit card. I like that I don't have to wait in line, because this store gets crowded AF! Pro Tip: as with all Sephoras, if you spend $50 and make an appointment, you can have your make up done for no additional cost. But good luck getting an appointment because they are always booked. VIB Rogue, the highest points-level of Sephora customer, gets his or her make up done with no purchase. Just show your card. But an appointment is still necessary. read more
