This is my go to Sephora location so which makes my recent experience so frustrating. I went in looking for Youth for the People's red mask, I don't know why but I couldn't remember the brand's name. An associate came up to me and asked if I needed help. I told her I didn't remember the brand but it was the very popular red mask, she led me to an item that was completely not what I asked for, but it was definitely more expensive. I explained with more detail the brand that there is no way she did not know what I meant, she then showed me an even more expensive product. It was never about the money, I can easily purchase any of the brands she wanted me to buy, but YFTP's red mask is the only thing that works for my skin. By then I could see what was going on, but fortunately I spotted the YFTP section, and no longer needed her "help." I understand wanting to earn a higher commission, but earning it like this is borderline unethical and a waste of customer's time. To make it all worse, I then waited easily over half hour on line because of the after 5 rush. This experience just really put a bad taste in my mouth and not sure I would return. read more

I have nothing but love for the Sephora. It has all the brands I need (yes, need) especially YSL and Guerlain, which some Sephoras do not carry. Depending on where you enter, you're greeted by cosmetics or fragrance. They have an impressive skin care selection, with all those brands I need (yes, need) such as Caudalie Amore Pacific and Origins. I like the set up of this store. Employees, or "cast members" in Sephora lingo, are eager to ring you up via mobile device, if you're using a credit card. I like that I don't have to wait in line, because this store gets crowded AF! Pro Tip: as with all Sephoras, if you spend $50 and make an appointment, you can have your make up done for no additional cost. But good luck getting an appointment because they are always booked. VIB Rogue, the highest points-level of Sephora customer, gets his or her make up done with no purchase. Just show your card. But an appointment is still necessary. read more

First the experience in sephora is no longer the same. It was one of my happy places. I was reminded to put mask back on but how was I suppose to test the foundation colors. I'm a brown skin woman and I can't test every color on my forehead. Besides no one was standing near me anyway. Then I decided to purchase a spray but the item I wanted wasn't in stock. At least I was able to place an order for delivery but it was a disaster. I always have an issue receiving my package when it's shipped to me. This time my package was actually delivered 5-7 blocks away at another address. At least the neighbor was willing to bring my package. I followed up with lasership but received NOTHING but attitude. The entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Needless to say I am returning the item, box and all for a full refund. read more

I think the staff at this location, EMYLEE & Tish to be specific, deserve to be recognized for there genuine commitment to customer service. As a person on the spectrum, I'm used to people treating me like I'm an inconvenience, which I've experienced in different locations. So it was really nice to have been treated so well, and you could really tell that they enjoyed helping me find what I needed. If I could give them a million stars, I would. Usually I get chill vibes when I shop at sephora. Instead tonight at the union Square location I encountered a bratty dude who gave off vibes of being quick to argue. Not my thing, not interested in going back and forth. Being overwhelmed with work doesn't excuse shitty behavior terrible customer service. Shouldn't work with the public if you're getting upset that quick. I'm aware if I overreact to things barely gave dude a hard time. He shouldn't be working in customer service. read more

Not sure how to react so I thought the best thing to do was to walk out. An employee asked if I needed help I was confused about different strengths of retinol since it's been a while for me. I chose the Ordinary skin care brand because they're basic and easy for a guy with mature skin. She tried to sell me a retinol that a price tag for $88. Sephora, call me stupid but is $88 the average price for retinol ? She was dismissive after I declined buying the product. Never again. I guess I'll stick to the Sephora in my neighborhood . I love all Sephora stores in general which offers really decent brand named cosmetic products. They also stock unique brands which are not stocked in regular drugstores or department stores. This store in general does offer fantastic customer service plus its located in Union Square stocked with the latest perfumes, hair care, cosmetics, plus more. This place can be dangerous for cosmetic junkies like me. I am really like a kid in a toy store. I get to touch, smell, and just play with everything before I decide what to purchase. Sometimes I go just to pick up one item but leave with more products that I didn't know I needed. I have to say that it is not cheap to shop here which allows me to really think it through before I buy anything on the other hand it really is well worth buying quality cosmetics. read more

Try to be more subtle about it because it's extremely uncomfortable when it's so beyond obvious that I'm being watched and so closely followed around. It feels like I'm being stalked. It's one of the bigger store locations. I usually prefer go to the stores for 2 things - 1. To try out testers and pick the right shades and check quality of makeup for myself. 2. To get advise from knowledgeable professionals to help me make informed choices best suited for me. Sephora generally is a let down on both fronts. This is store is not a very well maintained one. The make up samples/testers are mostly missing, empty containers, extremely dirty, messy and terribly unhygienic that you would not want to try on. Sometimes I have seen pieces of hair stuck on a lipstick/cream blusher! aarrgh! The staff is very unhelpful either because they are poorly trained and/or are not very knowledgeable or they are plain rude and choose no to help you. Compared to another leading cosmetic brand that has such a great staff that explains new products, teaches me how to use the same products in different ways etc. I end up buying more great products than I had intended. And still feel satisfied. I leave the store always feeling terrible, like I have wasted my time, it's not worth the trip. I always order online. read more

I had a great experience at this Sephora. I do like this location better than the 17th street one as it is easier to navigate. I went into Sephora with the daunting task of picking out a new face cleaning routine. I have incredibly sensitive skin and was very nervous about trying new products, especially ones I personally pick out as I know nothing about ingredients/chemistry, etc. Luckily I was helped by Tyler. OMG Tyler was the best. He listened closely to what my needs were and my concerns, and showed me products he believed would work on me. The best part is he was reading through ingredients and telling me what they are, what they do, and if it would be good for my skin. I'm very grateful for his knowledge, and he didn't recommend incredibly costly products, they were all priced very reasonably. I will definitely be coming back to this location! read more

It takes a real man to buy makeup for his girlfriend. At least that's what I tell myself when she sends me in here, hopelessly lost and pitifully whipped. Lucky for me, this store is absolutely packed with friendly, knowledgable Sephora employees just waiting to help you find anything and everything you need (and if they are judging you, they are doing it silently). As soon as I walked through the door, a very nice young woman showed me exactly what I was looking for, and pointed me toward the cashier. While she was ringing me up, the cashier asked me whether or not I found everything I was looking for. Upon hearing that I was hoping that they had the larger size of [whatever beauty product I've already forgotten], she was immediately apologetic; she checked me out, then left her post and walked me clear across the store to get me a free shipping code so I could order the correct item off the website at no extra charge. And then when I walked out, satisfied that I've kept my girlfriend from breaking up with me for at least another week, each and every one of the Sephora employees gave me a genuine goodbye smile. I'll admit to getting my scent on when hitting the Sephora a few minutes down the street from my office over in Union Square. I would normally go to the location by me on the UES, but I had to venture over here to pick up a few Christmas presents as the one on 86th street was out of them. That's what happens when I wait until the last minute - as usual! Easy to get to by subway with the 4,5,6 lines there. This location is huge and winding with many rooms to walk through. Seems they also had some sort of makeup classes going on here too. Super stacked with so many beauty products. Well organized and clean display areas. It's a good thing my gal made out a list and said "here is what I want". Pure awesome when she does that! I just handed it to one of the many helpful floor staff walking around here who gathered up my stuff in minutes and fulfilled my list. Boom! Done. In and out quickly. Now that's how to shop for Christmas. Oh yeah, as with all of these shops they also offer a killer selection of men's colognes too. Grabbed a few samples on the way out to leave around our place as a hint of what I would like as a present. Men, just remember, never be "THAT" guy who smells all nasty and reeks of B.O. The staff here are RUDE. When I approached an employee (named Melissa) by saying "Excuse me," her response was, "YEAH?" She basically looked at me as if I was some rodent. I asked her if someone could help me find a lipstick color in the YSL line that I like. She told me to wait a few minutes and someone came over. The lady that helped me was also very unhelpful. I asked her for her opinion, to which she responded, so you want this one? I said, well, I'm not sure, I wanted to get your opinion. "Oh, so you want this one. That one is good." The conversation went around in circles, until I said, what do you think of that other one? "Yes, the other one." Basically, she just wanted me to take something and shoo me away. She basically just got one of the two for me, put it in front of me, and left. Customer service is very lacking here, and people are downright rude. People don't offer to help and I've seen multiple sales associates standing around and talking to each other, and when you do ask them for help, they act like you're bothering them (aka asking them to do their job. My VIB Rouge status is expiring so I wanted to get a makeover! With reason-I'm renewing my passport as well. I made the appointment online a few days ago. Checking in was no problem, and I was so lucky to have Joanni as my makeup artist! She has such a down to earth personality and is very skilled in her work. I love the natural look she created for me, yet there's still plenty of color. This Sephora location is probably my favorite in the city-it's huge and nicely spaced out. You can sample products at any Sephora, and take home 3 samples from each of the "worlds" - skincare, makeup, fragrance. Sephora is no longer my go-to place for makeup (I prefer Ulta, shhh), but I still like coming in and trying things out. read more

This Sephora is reasonably good. It has a sprawling lay out. When you walk in the main entrance it is all perfumes, then you go through skincare, then haircare and finally make-up. They have a huge Make Up Forever display. This store also carries the higher end brands like Guerlain and Giorgio Armani. They don't carry the entire lines, you would need to go to Saks or Bloomies for that. The staff is very friendly and they do everything they can to get you checked out quickly. They utilized the credit card cubes to make the lines shorter. read more

The best Sephora by far...well, at least South of 34th Street. When you enter on either side you aren't aware of the fabulous maze of greatness that awaits you. You can either enter on the Union Square (17th street) side or on the Park Ave side. The 17th street entrance greets you with fragrance. It is everywhere. Keep walking and you'll be wooed by skin care kits, teeth whitening, anything to give you the "smoke and mirror" effect you've always wanted. Turn the corner and boom, you're in makeup land. I'm not a huge makeup person, I just started wearing lipstick (for the first time in my adult life!), but it's always fun to try a different product. They've changed their stores so you don't have to ask someone who works there to help you out all the time, it's easier to get to makeup remover, pads, alcohol, etc because they have these kiosks everywhere. The only thing that's annoying is that the mirrors in the Sephora branded section are at about crotch level...um...because the people who shop the Sephora brand of makeup don't grow that much? I have to give a shout out to Alexandra, who helped me out of the Sephora brand neighborhood and walked me over to the classy higher end section (where I did not need to be!). Btw, the mirrors are at eye level over here....I'm talking Rodeo Drive over here! She was really patient with me about the many red lipsticks I wanted and I walked away a satisfied customer. I went for a makeover for my birthday. I must admit that at First I was afraid that I would have someone do my makeup that would leave me looking over done. So before booking the appointment I requested a makeup artist that understood my type of skin. I wish I could remember her name I know it began with an M. Anyway she really listened and did an amazing job wish I had a before picture I don't. I do however have an amazing after picture. I came in here because my friend had to return an item. And I gotta tell ya, I love, love, love the newly revamped location! The store's layout was a bit cramped before. But when I walked in here recently, I was pleasantly surprised to see just how expansive this place actually is now. The new design allow you to sample a lot of products from the nail polishes, lotions, fragrances, and more without feeling crowded. I love the Fragrance Flight Bar that allows customers to test out scents without knowing the brand. Cool, right? I'll definitely come to this location to sample new products and test out fragrances. I spend waaaaay too much money at Sephora and this is the closest one to me. I love to frequent the physical store to explore the many perfumes they carry and large selection of makeup brands. They also carry hair care and skin care products as well though I don't usually paruse through those items. Like many stores, they are dog friendly, including the staff members who are sweet to my dog when I bring her. The store itself is well organized which I appreciate and doesnt ever feel overcrowded when I go due to the sprawling space and well spread out isles of items. For things like makeup and perfumes it is ab absolute must to go try on in store and no one bothers you about doing just that nor rushes you. If I had to give any feedback it would primarily be that in the perfume area sometimes perfume testers are not displayed for some scents or are scents from the same company but not the one the sign would indicate it should be. The sales people should be more knowledgable about this and organize appropriately and know which bottles are which. Otherwise customers risk buying the wrong product instead of the one they smelled, or when seeking out a specific scent, mistaking it for another, or frankly lose a sale when a scent is not there at all. read more

I know nothing about makeup and beauty but when I'm in this Sephora, I want to be one of those girls. It's just so visually pleasing and everything is so tempting on their pretty shelves. I love Sephora's loyalty system that gives you freebies with points you earn (I don't buy that much stuff and even I've gotten tons of freebies on points), and you get a pretty sweet birthday gift every year, too! They also have a weekly deal that is actually a super good value. I got a $22 lip color for $12 last week, and they usually choose very popular items that you'd actually want to buy! From skincare to hair to fragrance, they have it all in addition to makeup. And they have those irresistible little travel sized goodies lining the way while you're waiting to pay - so dangerous! read more

He hit it on the nose lol He understood us individually and what we were looking for. My cousin and i are total opposites. He narrowed it down so well that we purchased our perfume with confidence! We get a ton of compliments on our fragrances and we wouldn't have been able to find this or have the confidence to wear it without him! He knows his fragrances well.
