It's NYC, there's more than a few Sephoras here. Even though it's nowhere near my house, I always come to this location. I'm always helped when I ask and employees are really knowledgeable about their departments. I also love that the team is collaborative. On more than one occasion, I've asked for help and if the person working with me thought someone might have a better suggestion they've asked. That seems so simple but honestly it's the best and nobody else in retail does that in this city. And if they do, tell me, because I want to shop there too. Also, employees here are just plain nice. I literally went three months between visits and was immediately recognized by the woman who had helped me previously when I returned today. Honestly, go here. It's got to be one of the busiest Sephoras in the city and they still manage to personalize your experience. I just love these people. Be nice to them! They work really hard and know their stuff! *I refuse to reduce my rating for this but I do HATE walking through the perfume room to enter the store. I always end up smelling like 30 different, awful things. Also, for the love of Pete, keep coffee out so people can properly smell each perfume. I absolutely love this Sephora location. Don't get me wrong... I love all Sephoras due to my makeup obsession. However, this location is more spacious than any other I have been to. My favorite part is that they have nail painting stations. They have a few tables set up with nail polish remover, top coats, and a wide array of tester nail polishes from Sephora by OPI, OPI, and Butter London among others. I was slowly falling for Sephora, especially after a few visits to the one on the UES where I was attended to as soon as I walked in the door, given top notch advice and attention. The girls were friendly and their make up was done very well. The one in Union Sq however is almost the exact opposite. Union Sq is a high volume area, and this Sephora is clearly under staffed. The two girls "helping" on the floor had a ton of make up caked on, and barely had a moment to help me. One of them forgot about me, and when the other finally talked with me, she had no idea about the products, (she had so much make-up on I wasn't sure I wanted her help anyway) but did manage to rush me a free sample at my request. She then quickly ran off to go chat with her fellow co-workers, which were all clearly annoyed to be there on a Friday and God forbid help anyone! If you need to run in and grab make up you already know works for you, fine drop by the Union Sq location, but if you actually want to learn about what make works for you, how you actually look and receive some helpful advice, go to the one over on the UES, trust me its worth the trip. I like this Sephora, mostly because of the location, although it can get crowded at times. I don't think most of the employees know their stuff so well as in other locations, like other reviewers mentioned, they really do cake on the makeup. It does get annoying when you actually need help but they are all busy with other customers who are sooo lost with what makeup/shades to get and the younging's who try on as many products as they can. I even saw these 2 girls fighting over this Guerlian pearl blush and they dropped it and it broke, and they left so they wouldn't get in trouble... But to the point, they have a wide selection of brands and usually have items in stock. Whenever I have to return a item (I always keep my receipt), they never give me a problem or attitude, which is nice. This Sephora in particular is one of my favorites. Sephora in general is awesome because of the selection, free samples, helpful employees, RETURN POLICY = HEAVEN, colorfulness, etc. which translate to the store being more addictive than heroin. I like the location of this one because it's at the back of the park, which allows for a much-appreciated breath of fresh air after being cooped up in stores like Filene's Basement, DSW, Forever 21, etc. It's also open until 9:00 Mon-Sat, unlike the 5th Avenue one a few blocks over, which closes at 8:00. If you enter on 17th all you see is men's perfume/cologne. If you enter from Park all you see is makeup. Somewhere in the middle is women's perfume, so safe to say this store's layout can be confusing when you first come in but makes a lot of sense once you get used to it. The cast members are hit or miss for me. Some of them seem to really be open to helping you find a new color or fragrance. Others will actively ignore me and continue gossiping with coworkers. It's a good enough Sephora, but nothing to draw me back to this one instead of other makeup locations. read more

Jesus Christ. 1) They were out of every single item I needed. 2) The staff was too busy talking to each other to notice me flagging them down. 3) They hadn't heard of the DDF moisturizer I needed. I had to find the tester myself. And they were out of it. 4) The items they were out of could not be purchased with store credit. Store credit has to be used in-store. That would be great, if they had any of the items I had needed. I hate you Sephora. But I'll keep coming back. Because like McDonald's or Starbucks or other similar evil chains, we don't have any other choice. read more

I love shopping at Sephoa. I especially frequent the location at Union Square because it is convenient to other retail stores that I like to visit. It's also next door to Barnes and Noble which is a great meet up spot. Sephora has great selection of products and they offer may free samples either by request or as rewards for being frequent shoppers. They have a great return policy. Sephora -you will be the death of me!! I apparently am obsessed with 'products'. From lotions that smell like lilies, to moisturizer, to the latest and greatest perfumes -Sephora has it all. I love that you can go in and 'try' almost every product. To ensure that crazy blue looks OK on your skin, or that perfume actually smells good. Good for: Lotion, hair products, makeup, perfumes, face products, joy! This store is super crammed, so I would not recommend going in here on the busy weekend. During the week it's a breeze. Always helpful people working there, most of them super knowledgeable on the massive variety of products. I can spend hours in this store, and have to stay away, or I will and my wallet will pay for it!!! Downside: The line can often be very long. They need to work on speeding this up. I came here when they first opened this location a few years ago and a few times now and in between. I never knew you could return stuff here. Anywho, I bought a product at the seaport location and exchanged it here for "Tarte (eye) Lid and Crease duo brush" ( tartecosmetics.com, or http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P148205&categoryId=RVP ) which took me forever to find considering at the seaport locale it was right in front of you in the store, and here it was off the to the side, midstore. After finally finding it, brought it to the counter and no questions asked, I got my exchange no prob, no questions, nothin! A sales girl tried to help me look for the product but i told her the wrong color box so she couldn't help me from the wrong 411; it was actually in a light/dark duo purple/violet box. They dont carry the range of brands of other Sephoras in the city but whatevers. I get in. I get out. It's smaller Sephora...very cramped. I always gag in any Sephora or make up/beauty bar in stores at the people "trying" on makeup. Dipping that q-tip in the same jar that everyone else has dipped in. GROSS! For a first timer to this store, it was a good experience but with a help of a friend who is an avid shopper of this store who recommended cosmetics that would fit me. Gave a high rating because I could peruse and sample all sorts of things in this store although the hygiene factor would make me shriek EWWW! I found the layout a bit tight though and there weren't any floor reps asking if I would need help. In the end, the cashier was friendly (but of course, they want your $$$!) and I signed up to be A "Beauty Insider" that earns 1 pt for every dollar you spend. On the sign-up, they gave me a mascara annd my bought goods in a little black bag with tissue paper. I was sold on the presentation and will be coming back to get more goods to fill that black glossy bag. read more

Big store with lots of products. This review is mainly for Li who helped me on the floor. She was incredibly friendly and helpful when I spoke to her about skin care. Very generous with the samples and not judgmental at all. I waited for about 15 min to talk to her as she helped another customer and it was worth it. On the other hand, the girl working with the Fresh apron on, needs to be fired. Didn't know products at all, blatantly blew me off when another customer came around, just rude. I wish I had her name, Li didn't know her because she apparently doesn't work there regularly... I guess I'm just using this review to vent -_- Go see Li! read more

Popped into this Sephora location as I wanted to buy some Urban Decay glitter eyeliner (with the hopes that it was still 'in style'). Want to give special props to Emily, Brianna and Melissa - really appreciated their help as well as their upbeat personalities. Sephora never disappoints. Very hit or miss in terms of staff. It's near impossible to get a sample unless you've been working with someone. I literally watched two employees walk by me, acknowledge I had said something, then walk right past me like I didn't matter. Cashiers are either too tired to care or happy to help and throw in a couple extra samples. I come here because it's near where I work. Sephora's prices always get me down; but Carrie, my helpful sales assistant, found me a $10 mascara that was exactly what I was looking for. She even helped me pick out those few essential pieces that I needed for my summer look and showed me how to use them. Sephora can get confusing at times. I recommend asking for help. Used to be my go to Sephora - had a horrific experience on my last visit for the VIB Rouge event. The store was disgusting, there was no manager running the floor as customer service was completely absent and I work in the industry. I Know the store and am able to shop on my own so I did. Then @ check out Sam the cashier made me feel super uncomfortable asking odd questions and didn't offer anything I knew he should as a regular client and gift wrapping of Jo Malone products and such. Then heard a lot of shop talk amongst team which is so unprofessional and the girl wrapping my gift was basically telling me she would Make shift gift wrap my moms Mother's Day gift because they and I quote "ain't got nothing else", which felt like I was in Walmart. Then passed Joe the Ops manager on my way out that could sense my disgust and frustration of my visit that promised I'd be followed up with their CRM manager Kathy... and it's been over a week with no follow up. As someone that spends usually $200+ frequently I need to find another Sephora in the city as this just left such a bad taste for me and I love shopping Sephora and hate Ulta & department stores. Sephora...My one and only love of paradise for beauty shopping. Sephora has EVERYTHING and more for me to enjoy and indulge my pampering in. I must go in here about 6 times a week, it seems. Either to touch up, and or to talk to some of my friends who work there(Denise is such a great friend and is doing my makeup for my wedding!). And or, just to buy some Toner & or moisturizer...go to an event, or just a pi kc me up of some sort. I feel like a beautiful girl in here, enjoying the aisles and colors and artistic values I have with myself and makeup. I also frequent the one on 19th street. And on-line... This is a great storefront with plenty of products, however, the employees are terrible. They don't know what they are doing, and don't have a basic handle on hygiene and product safety. I went in to get matched for a foundation. This particular employee didn't know what she was doing, the colors weren't matching to my skin, but the worst part was that she didn't even clean the powder foundation prior to applying it to my skin. How gross. Then I switched to another employee who used the color matching device that Sephora has. It also wasn't cleaned prior to being placed on my skin. He also didn't wash his hands prior to using various swatches on my face. I didn't like the colors that were being swatched- I looked very orange, and the employee INSISTED that I was wrong. I wasn't, the swatches looked somewhat ok in under the bright lights, however, in direct sunlight, I looked awful. He proceeded to have an attitude and walked away. Long story short, these employees have no clue as to what they are doing, and they don't have a basic handle on cleanliness and hygiene. read more

Went there yesterday with my two year old son. At the time he was pooped from walking around a lot so we arrived with him in stroller. They have a handicap entrance on 19th street. The gentleman kindly let us in and offered to help me carry the stroller up the 2 steps. Anyhow... I was glad I was able to shop in the store with my stroller and have NO ONE give me evil glares. Especially, since Sephora is known for rather small aisles. Thank goodness he was in his smaller Maclarn and not his other over-sized stroller. So back to the point- I was really truly surprised that people kindly shifted to let us through with a smile. That doesn't happen a lot (at least not to me). And even with my endless circling trying to decided between a Laura Mercier or smashbox lip gloss, I felt totally at east to shop in peace... comfortably! Oh, and this is also one of the first times the cashier ASKED ME FIRST if I was a Beauty Insider and offered up the goods without me feeling as if I were begging!! Crowded and more crowded but the reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because of the service. I stopped by to claim my free birthday gift but the line was insanely long so I asked a male employee if I could just go to the register. At first he told me I had to get on line but then he told me to hang on while he talked to someone at the front. He came a minute later and told me to go on ahead to the front! What a sweetheart! It's people like that guy that's going to make me want to go back to the Sephora on Union Square in the future. BTW, I claimed the Marc Jacobs lipstick and eyeliner and I am loving them! The lipstick is like a matte but it covers my entire lip without drying or showing any lines. It's like a MAC lipstick and the black eyeliner goes on really smoothly! read more

This place is always a mess and the Sephora reps are rude, unprofessional, and inexperienced. I ask for help and they just turn away. This one guy I asked for help was just talking to a coworker, and when I asked for help, he just ignored me. At first, I thought he didn't hear me, so I lightly tapped on his shoulder to get his attention, and he screamed at me to not touch him???? Are you serious? They're always out of stock, and the staff always looks confused. Their testers are never cleaned properly. I kid you not that I saw a piece of someone's booger in a tester palette. Gross. My sister went into this store today with her best friend. A Sephora rep. "helped" them (was supposed to help them at least). Instead of answering questions about the Glam Glow mask which is what my sisters friend asked about, she got told "Oh you don't need this mask, you don't have acne. SHE does (pointing towards my sister) but you don't." I'd like to clarify that my sister is 18 years old and gets breakouts here and there as many teenagers do. The fact that this person feels she has the right to demean an 18 year old CUSTOMER is disgusting, repulsive behavior which shouldn't be tolerated. What makes it even worse is that my sister LOVES makeup and is obsessed with Sephora...thanks to the little comment, she's been crying for hours. I called the store to complain about this poor excuse of a Sephora Rep., and Kathy, the manager seemed sympathetic and agreed that my sister had a horrible experience. Hopefully they have her attend bullying training or something along those lines because clearly she needs it, along with general people skills. read more

I received very rude customer service from a brow expert named Jenny when I came in. The minute I asked her a question about a product she was very abrasive and rude. She undermined every question I had, which in turn made me very upset so I asked for the manager. The manager came over and Jenny proceeded to stand there and argue with me about how I was being the rude one. I've never experienced such poor treatment from Sephora staff. Usually the people who work in Sephora are very friendly and helpful. This woman certainly was not. Very disappointing. read more

I recently purchased some perricone md products from sephora. They were working great at first . But after using the cold plasma face and eye sets for a month I noticed my skin kept breaking out here and there. So I had to stop using it and so did my $200 down the drain. I didn't think i can return it since they are half empty.I went to sephora today to get other samples to try and I told the sales lady about the cold plasma set . To my surprise, she asked me to bring them back and get my full refund. She also gave me many other samples to try. I highly recommend getting skin care products from sephora. read more
