I LOVE SEPHORA SO MUCH!!!! Every single experience is always so fantastic! The star of the show this time is JON B!!! I've been out of foundation for a while now, but I've been getting by with some drug store brand ones my sister had that weren't her shade. After several months I decided it was time.. and I finally went to Sephora for a much needed re-up! I received some great service as usual and got what I needed (and then some) but I also received help with my non-existent face cleansing regimen from Jon B. As I was making my way through the facial cleansers and moisturizers, Jon B and all his greatness walked up to me (probably cuz I looked so confused) and asked if I needed help. I let him know how lost I was because I don't really have a regimen, but that I broke out and want to get more serious about my cleansing situation and he was happy to help. We picked out some products THAT I AM IN LOVE WITH... and he blessed me with the most amazing facial I've ever received! You guys I couldn't stop talking about this facial to my friends and I knew it was magical because the very next day at work, the first thing my boss said to me was "OMG D.. your skin looks amazing" I couldn't help but smile I knew it was the amazing facial that got all the nastiness off my face... during the facial, Jon had a jar collecting all the crap the machine was capturing and it was so gross to look at after, but man did my skin feel FANTASTIC!! I recommend JON B and this Sephora location for anyone! Whether you're a first timer with makeup trying to learn the ropes, or a seasoned MUA, these people at Sephora are amazing! Patient, friendly, knowledgeable, and just amazing. A SEPHORA THAT IS OPEN UNTIL MIDNIGHT? MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED! I was surprised at how friendly everyone at this store was and that their wide selection of everything from makeup (YES!!!) to perfume was all fully stocked. True, this might have been because it's in the middle of Times Square, and it's a prime target for tourists, however they surpassed my expectations. Anyway, if you know what Sephora is about, then I needn't really explain any further. This store gets the coveted 5 stars from me for being bright and beautiful, well stocked and well manned by friendly staff. I hope the Sephora in Heaven looks just like this. read more

This is another Sephora that just seems to be laid out poorly. Although it seemed large, it's like they don't leave enough space between the shelves. This makes getting around difficult when there are others around (I know what you are thinking, she must be large. But no, my butt isn't that big that I can't get around normal stores. Even the thinest of people seemed to have difficulty navigating the store). Anyway, the plus side is that they do carry Bobbi Brown. Although, don't expect a large selection of Bobbi Brown, because Sephora chooses to make many Bobbi Brown products online exclusives. The strange thing is that the Sephora didn't seem to carry any new Bobbi Brown or the more popular products. The lipstick section is abysmal (and Bobbi Brown is known for lipsticks, because originally that was all they sold). This Sephora seemed to have a nice selection of Nars products, which was nice. They also had a lot of nail polishes, which was also quite nice. They had nail painting stations, but I question how sanitary that is. Can't you get a nail fungus that way? When I went to the Bobbi Brown section, there was a rep from Bobbi Brown. She was friendly and helpful, but technically she doesn't work for Sephora. Other than the Bobbi Brown rep, no one in the store said anything to me. I've been told by sales associates at other cosmetics counters that Sephora has a rep for bad customer service because the workers don't work on commission. Also, the artists who apply makeup can't take tips. Therefore they have no incentive to really help. I can kind of see this theory as holding true. I went to Sephora because I had a coupon. I now realize I much prefer the selection and customer service of a department store. Sephora to me has become a place to buy specific items that you already know you want, not a place to browse peacefully. read more

I've had some better experiences with Sephora personally I love the one on 34th street plus the one in soho. I find Union Square to be okay but doesn't have as much products as i would like. This location Times square didn't have some products I wanted either..ahh the pain I go here though because i get out of work late and this sephora is open until 12 am which works for me however i cant stand the kids hanging out for no reason they just sometimes ruin my moment because they are in my way. Convenient location and hours. Closes at 1am. Can't ask for more. Most staff are really helpful. However I had bad experience with one of them. She was incredibly rude and told me in a very obnoxious tone that they are "out of sample containers so no samples okay honey?" when I asked for a sample of the Cover FX foundation. That was clearly a lie because I immediately asked someone else and she gave me the sample without giving me a hard time. I'm not someone constantly asking for samples trying to steal foundations from Sephora. I only have one face, which was covered with foundation at that moment. So getting samples was the only way for me to decide if I'm going to buy it or not. I'd rather not make the purchase if I can't test it out. Anyway, if anything, I wish I had more than one face so that I can try on every single foundation I'm interested :) This is the reason why I'm giving only 3 stars. read more

I like Sephora, but the store at Broadway and 74th St has to be the worst. Every time I walk in there are at least 6 or 7 sales associates within view and none of them walk up to me to ask if I need help. This has happened several times. I usually have to interrupt whatever they think is more important than a customer to ask them to help me. I never get their full attention, nor are they particularly friendly or enthusiastic about helping me. What is wrong with this store?! I have been to many other Sephoras where my experience is quite the opposite. I'm greeted with a smile as soon as I'm inside the door and I'm helped in the fastest friendliest manner. Sephora, you will never fail me. I love this place, especially its times square location. They always have my favorite perfumes in stock, and I love trying all their products. It's kind of sad that i have about like 700 points in my card even after receiving some of their sample rewards. The consultants there are SUPER sweet and the guys are hot... This Sephora was stocked with all their new OPI for Sephora colors that some of the other stores did not have (Mermaid on the Go or something like that - the turquoise one). This store is pretty busy and the workers do not try to give you their obnoxious shopping buckets and help when you ask. They have a brow bar in the back. The cashiers are in the back as well which makes it kind of incovenient. They have lots of sampling supplies and mirrors, which I liked. Would definitely come back. read more

When I walked through Times Square during my visit earlier this year close to midnight I stopped in this store. It was very crowded and the only employee that spoke was the security guard. This is my favorite Sephora of all time. Yes, it's time square and there's a shit ton of people but that's anywhere in Times Square. the people who work here are some of the highest quality employees of Sephora that I've ever seen. The staff here is really diverse and they're also highly knowledgeable about what kind of skin you have or what kind of makeup you need. Today I went in and had a really good experience with an employee named Rosanna I told her exactly what was what my skin issue was and she was able to point me in the direction of products that were not only good for my skin type and tone but also that were within my price range and also natural products. I usually go to the Sephora on 5th Avenue, but man, who would have thought that the Sephora in Time Square is the ish? Living in NYC, I would go above and beyond to avoid the tourists packed Time Square. I came here with a friend who's trying to get some consumer insights by observing people's purchasing habits at a Sephora. Man, oh man, I discovered my beauty products candy jar. This location basically carries almost all of the brands you could find online on the Sephora website. They even have a section where they show you what's hot and trending now. There's a machine at the center of the store where you could type in your concerns and the machine would recommend products for you. You could also come here for a free mini make over, even a mini facial. You could get your skin tone IDed so you would find the perfect shade for the foundation. People working here are very friendly, I even heard about the story of the founder for Tatcha, and how the brand Fresh was made famous, etc. One downside is that it's Time Square, people from places where's there's no Sephora would come to this location to shop, so the line for check out is very long. However, the arrangement of the products is very well thought out. The limited edition products are at the front right when you walk in, and then the brands are arranged in alphabetical order for the most part. Perfumes are at the back, so is the men's grooming section. There's even a beauty advisor on duty where you could get personal recommendation. I bought some stuff at Sephora on 86th, everything was fine but I didn't like the color so on my way downtown I stopped at the Sephora Times Square (the smaller one on 42nd) to exchange 2 items and after asking me which two I was taking, the women behind the counter gave me the old stuff in a new bag and sent me on my way. Stupid me looked down to get change while she bagged them bc somehow the 2 items I was exchanging cost more, even thought it was the exact same thing in a different color!! I didnt realize I needed to watch or bag my own things so I didn't find out til I was on the train out of town. Mistakes happen, but this is really annoying because I don't have time to run back there for another week and now I have to go on vacation and use the wrong color til then And if they give me trouble that a lot is used, I'm going to loose it Moral is, check they don't mess up your purchases too. read more

As far as the overall store, it's like all Sephoras stock full of brands as far as the eye can see. So I recommend if you know exactly what you want. But as far as the staff, every experience I've had at this Sephora has been awful. The staff is rude and unwilling to assist, even though there is quite a large staff . ABOUT THE EMPLOYEES I came here to this specific location because I was walking around and I realized I am out of moisturizer! So I walked in, passed all the make up and went straight to the clinique section. While deciding which one would be a better buy, a sales woman approached me and started to ask if I needed help. Sure, why not? Throughout the whole time when I was asking questions she seemed pretty annoyed. She kept saying "well.. so and so...." and "well... then just so and so...." In a rush I just said ok I'll just get this and then I lined up to pay for it. I can't say all the employees are bratty, but the cashier was really nice. ABOUT THE STORE ITSELF AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG! I *love* Sephora usually, but the Times Square Sephora is just too busy and too crowded. I went to this place twice in the last two days, in both the evening and afternoon on a weekday, and this place was still packed. I remember going into my first Sephora back when it opened in 1998. One of the things I liked about it was that in most stores (or at least the Rockefeller Center one), it often seemed like the sales people out numbered the clients. At the very least, it seemed like most stores always have someone who can help you. Not true with this location. And in a place where there's thousands of little vials that all claim to the same miraculous things, you need someone to reassure you that you're not wasting your money! read more

Why is this on my list of stops? It's located in a tourist trap location and it's crowded. It's not one of those let's-stroll-through-aisles-for-a-lookie/try-at-the-products place. But I usually know what I want and the skin/hair care section is usually has virtually no one. Then again, I usually find myself patronizing there around 7/8pm. Assistance is usually hard to come by, register people are usually engrossed in convo between each other than to speed up your check out process, but so far they are friendly to deal with when you come across them. read more

Just left the store and I was pretty impressed. I've never gone into sephora and got what I needed and walked out in less than 10 minutes! Amazing!! The staff were helpful and a beautiful girl with tan skin and dark hair advised me on an Kat Von D eyeliner to get and she wasn't snobby or stuck up. At checkout the girl was hyper but very quick and efficient. Overall I had a great experience when I actually thought going into times square was going to be a hassle. After working on a holiday there is nothing better than getting great customer service. Needless to say I walked out with a smile that I'm still wearing right now. Thank you Sephora! After visiting the Sephora Fifth Avenue store early in the day, where I was completely ignored, I dropped into this Times Square location at around 2pm on a Tuesday. This location has a much wider selection of products than the Fifth Ave. store. And the personnel are much more friendly and helpful. I had a makeover from "Jadira," free with a $50 purchase. Jadira was friendly and very professional, a good example of someone who loves their work. She did an outstanding job on my makeup, using products that met my "picky" specifications (not expensive and smaller format/packaging good for frequent travel). Big plus for getting a makeover is the artist will help you shop and you can check out with her, avoiding the line at the registers. As others mention, this location is very busy, so try to come early on a weekday. I've shopped at a number of Sephora stores, this one is the best. read more

I walked in with low hopes because of the busy location. I went to look for a new foundation for an event this weekend. I was so grateful to meet Coleen, a staff member, who helped me find the PERFECT match and went above and beyond to make my experience that much better. Rho is a makeup artist at his location. He is incredibly knowledgable and friendly. He was very patient with my indecisiveness and wanted to make sure I got the exact right colors for me. He didn't try to upsell more expensive products and, as a result, I decided to get several other products! This is my first experience with an artist and I will come back to Sephora next time I need to stock up! Go late night on weekdays. I went in there Thursday to buy one thing from Bare Minerals. Found it easily enough and a sales assistant did come over so assist me pretty quickly. The line for the register was terrible. I counted 24 people in the line and only 2 people on the register. There was more employees up near the register but only 2 people on it. As expected, this is probably their busiest location in New York. They have a huge selection of brands to browse through. Don't expect to get sufficient help from anyone though. The employees here will just push you around and forget about you. I was passed around 4 times before finally getting assisted with a color match.
