I've been here several times and never completely like it. The last time I was mostly ignored. Prices seemed high as well. The initial time I went there, they were trying to give me unsolicited advice when I explained I knew the product. I wrestled back and forth between giving this shop three or four stars, simply because I've had some odd experiences with getting advice on colors and products. But I've just learned to come back later and try again, and since this store is centrally located in busy Reston Town Center, it's a convenient stop. Four stars for the immense selection in the store. From brand names to the Sephora brand, there are products available at all price-points. For example, I don't like to spend a lot on make-up brushes and would rather replace them more often, so the Sephora brand brushes are perfect. Instead of $30 a brush, they sell for around $10. Good customer service experience: a facial cream separated weeks after I'd bought and had been using it, and a replacement was handled with no question. read more

I needed to pick up a gift card for my sister before I met up with her to do some shopping in Reston and I remembered this location. I love this location so much more than the Fair Oaks location. Not only is it larger, but I felt helped and not suffocated by the women here. They got my exactly what I needed without being unnecessarily pushy. Honestly the makeup that Sephora sells is just brand name makeup and you can surely find something that is as great as those products at a cheaper price at the drugstore. The staff is generally helpful, but I like to pick my own makeup. My sister went their alone once and the so called MUA recommended her a shade that was too dark. When my sister got home and I told her to try it on, it didnt look that great on her. The main problem is that they never find my information for the beauty insider card through my phone number, address, email, or even zip code. The associate had registered me for the card herself. The whole point is that the place is alright, but I like to shop on a budget and only buy products that I really want to try at Sephora, but really it is not my go to store for makeup products. read more

I shop at this location frequently as I am in Reston about two times a month. Knowing it was time to update my makeup, I decided to make a reservation for a makeup application. I promptly started with Jill V. She was pleasant, upbeat, and kind. Jill's professionalism was excellent and she listened to my needs. She was thorough, explained all the products, addressed my concerns, and I loved the work she did on my makeup. She didn't rush. She was knowledgeable with her craft. Admittedly, this is the first and only Sephora I've been to (and I've only been there once... what can I say? I RARELY wear makeup, much less shop for it)... but I have to respectfully disagree with the reviews saying their customer service is poor. I made my first visit in May 2018 when my mom made a free makeup appointment for prom. (NOTE: This session is "free" with the purchase of $50 or more afterwards, which shouldn't be that hard to hit? I would complain about prices but I guess makeup is just crazy expensive universally, oh well.) I'm not the most confident person when it comes to my looks, so I was already getting overwhelmed and insecure as hell just by walking into the store, but the staff was so friendly, kind, and attentive -- especially Danielle! She was so sweet and is a FANTASTIC makeup artist. I told her I wanted a natural, simple look for prom (I don't really like anything too bold; it's just not me), and she did an amazing job of keeping it simple yet still elegant. Me being completely new to anything makeup related, Danielle made sure to explain everything she was doing to my face and consistently checked in to make sure I was comfortable throughout the entire. I loved the end result, and the makeup stayed on throughout the whole night -- lots of girls were retouching their makeup throughout the evening, but I don't think I ever needed to. (Wink) I will definitely be coming back here (and ask for Danielle!) if I need my makeup done for another big event; great job, Reston Sephora! Also, the store is pretty organized/easy to navigate so you can find products you need fairly quickly. 10/10, will be coming back in the future! ALSO: your makeup artists can't take tips (I tried), but if you think they did a fantastic job, support them by filling out the online survey. Very disappointed in customer service for older adult. Sunday is my dress down day. No makeup and looking like an over 55 adult. Four employees in the store, not one offered help to older women in the store. Here's a hint salespeople. One day, you too will look in a mirror and wonder where your young, fresh and bouncy disappeared to. Be kind, we have the disposable income and pay your salary. I LOVE this Sephora, there is always someone around to help me. When I get my makeup done go to Jess, she does the best work. Staff is very knowledgeable about products, I love that they don't just try and sell you the most expensive products but what's best for your skin. I will continue to shop and this location. I normally don't write reviews but this one I just have to share. I went in to make a purchase and when I went to the register the person asked for my email. Before I could even speak she motioned at her face shaking her head and hand disgusted that I was masked and said "I can't hear with that thing... these masks .... Here.... And she ripped a piece of paper and said just write it here. She continued to ring up my purchase while turning to her coworker and continued to complain about how "these masks" and how annoyed she was. When I left the store I filled out a survey and explained what happened. Surprisingly Sephora responded back saying sorry you didn't have a good experience and that we will look into this followed by " it is very difficult to hear in there, mask or no mask" . I am appalled by the lack of sensitivity of Sephora towards customers who have to mask for health reasons and at the rude and demeaning way that they treated me because I was wearing a mask. read more

The service is just awful here and I've been helped at sephora locations in Tyson's corner mall, fair oaks, Georgetown, and many more in NYC. I went in with my own product (powder foundation) and wanted to see if there was another color of the same brand that would be a better fit. Two sales associates were chatting away as I just stood there. Seeing that they had no intention of asking what I needed, I interrupted them for help. Obviously that was a huge mistake it seemed, because the girl who stepped forward was so annoyed; kept cutting me off as I was trying to explain why i was there, was rolling her eyes and basically kept on saying the same thing over and over again...' Too dark for you, too light for you, you're the same color'. I was so turned off by her that I ended up going to another sales person for help with applying another product to find the right match; this time a highlighter that comes in different sheens. This particular lady, older Asian lady was almost bipolar. She started off very nicely and then suddenly kept talking me out of buying this product. Her flow of questions were so weird.. I wasn't sure if she wanted me to try smrh different or not buy a highlighter at all. Just plain ridiculous! If I ever go back to this location, I know not to ask for help. 1 star for the sephora brand name, 2nd star for finding a desirwd cover fx primer on the shelf. Boom! read more

I have been this thi location several times and have never had a bad experience. One the employees went out of her way for me, giving me several "samples" to try since I have super sensitive skin and if I have too much coconut applied to my skin I break out in hives. The key thing about going to this location is you have to look at what is going on in Reston Town Center. I've noticed that when there is a BIG event (like an art festival) it seems to get crowded too fast and you can't get the help you may need. I always seem to plan my trips there after the mob of people are gone. read more

I generally love this store but when I visited this location the other day I was in relaxed comfy clothes, maybe looking a little tired and no one bothered to talk to me. I went in for a mascara and discovered a line of makeup that I have really come to enjoy. As I was looking and picking out products they were all falling out of my hands. I paused for a moment to look for a basket as other locations have often offered and could not find one. I went to ask a few reps for one and each time they turned to start talking another customer. I was really disappointed in the service but still managed to walk out with about $300 in products. I think in future I will visit other locations and avoid the Reston location unless I am just browsing. read more

I was shopping yesterday (10/23/2015) with my daughter when we were approached by a very well made up skin care rep who asked us to try her new product. I looked and my daughter and said "not for me, but you can" after which my daughter said no thank you. The saleswoman then turned to me and asked me very bluntly "when did you decide to go natural?" I was a bit caught of guard and then figured she was talking about my blonde hair, which is mixed with my more mature white hair. I spend a lot of money on my hair and my response was "it's not natural. I do a lot to get it this way." She then talked a bit about her color (she was brunette with and olive complexion), smiled coyly and then walked off. I tried to reconcile that she was complimenting me on my color but after going through it with my daughter and my stylist, I think she was intentionally being hurtful because of my response to her sales pitch. I love Sephora in general and this one is like all of them in that it has a wide selection of great products and can offer a lot of fun just perusing and testing the cosmetics, fragrances, and skin care. Where the Reston Sephora goes wrong is with the shoddy customer service. Sometimes, I have gone in and have been pleased overall as the staff was friendly, but not pushy. More often than not, though, if you turn down their assistance at the beginning when you first walk in the door, it becomes near impossible to get their help later on when you do need it. On the other hand, though, there have been more than a few occasions at this Sephora that have made me walk out annoyed due to rude employees who ignored customers, stood around talking to one another, and acted like customers were a burden when they wanted to check out (since they had to stop talking for a few minutes). So, while it is not the best customer-friendly Sephora, it is in a great location and Sephora is fabulous in general. Go, play, enjoy, just be forewarned that sometimes it will be a wonderful, customer-oriented experience and other times it will be annoying and frustrating. read more

There is NOTHING like color matching in the gorgeous natural light of this store. The managers are total sweethearts, busy as all getout, but sweethearts none the less. (This store is always bustling with customers, and I find that to be a good sign) I was shocked to read there were anything but positive reviews for this place. My returns are always taken with a smile (which I can't say for many other large retailers out there), they are always happy to offer me new and very educated recommendations, and how they do it all with those headsets on is beyond me! I can't imagine it being easy of offer customer service to one person, while another employee could be asking you a question in the other ear. Talk about talent! Not to mention they have hundreds of product lines to keep track of. If you've ever worked retail, you surly would agree it couldn't be easy. I'm a VIB Rouge member so let's just say that I shop at Sephora. A lot. I thought my experience at the Reston location was unique and for some reason the people there didn't like me but after reading the other reviews on this site and witnessing how the sales people treated my boyfriend the other day, I have learned it's not me, it's them. I sincerely hope the store manager takes the time to read these reviews and talk to their employees about what constitutes customer service. I've lived in Reston/Herndon for over 10 years and shop at RTC consistently. I go into Sephora almost every time I'm at RTC because, well, it's Sephora. In all that time I've had exactly one positive experience where the sales person was actually helpful, listened to what I was looking for, and recommended a product that fit the bill. ALL of the other times I'm lucky if the sales people can stop talking amongst themselves long enough to even acknowledge there are customers in the store. If I am lucky enough to get their attention and ask them where a product is or to recommend something, their usual response is to wave towards a general direction in the store instead of talking to me and showing me where it is. It's not like they're busy. Usually they're just standing around talking. This past Sunday we made a special trip because my boyfriend wanted a new moisturizer. When he asked for advice, the sales person acted huffy that he was interrupting her talking to another employee and immediately took him to the Jack Black display. I guess because he's a guy, he should only use products marketed to males? When he asked about Murad or Clinique, her response was "don't use those." No explanation, no reasons given. He hated the interaction with her so he left without buying anything. I was annoyed at how he was treated so I put back the $30 lip gloss I was going to get and left too. Might I add no one offered to help me in the 20 minutes we were there but as we were leaving and passing by a group of 5-6 employees applying their own makeup in the big mirrored area at the front of the store, one of them told us to have a nice day. Seriously? That just infuriated me more. From now on I'll only shop here if it's an emergency and I need something immediately that Ulta doesn't carry OR I'll buy it online. That way I don't have to look at the sour faces of the employees who work in this particular store. read more

I came here cause the Dulles Sephora is absolute trash. I wanted to buy stuff and use my 20% but I also wanted to get samples. I asked one lady if she could make me a sample and she seemed beyond annoyed as she was doing it. I was literally afraid to ask her for another sample so I went and asked someone else but the other person I asked was helping another customer so she redirected me back to the same first employee that was being a pissy annoying hoe, and continues to huff and puff. Like alright it's not that hard sweetie all you have to do is take a sample cup, pump a few pumps and stick it in a bag and write the description. Sephora pls stop hiring these weak idiots read more

My favorite location for Sephora, hands down. I have an intense amount of points because I spend entirely too much money here. Oh well. The price I pay for looking great every day! The customer service here is phenomenal. I've never had an issue with getting not only help, but quality, friendly advice. The clerks know their stuff and have helped to steer me in the right direction on several occasions. There have been several times when I've been looking at a pricey product and the sales associate has let me do a demo of some sort or try it on first, then directed me to another option that she thought might work better for me. I've saved a lot of money (true, I swear) by the grace of their guidance. Example: Dior airbrush makeup. Was on the verge of purchase when Galina (awesome clerk, PS) came over and did a demo for me, then explained why the product wasn't really right for my skin. She took me over to the Makeup Forever HD brands and found the absolute perfect solution for me- for a lower cost than the Dior. Proof to me that they care and are looking to build a return customer relationship, not just take my money. Definitely not taking my business anywhere else. read more

I am a regular Sephora shopper, and I always have been quite pleased with the customer service I receive. I had a very negative experience shopping at the Reston store today. Not one sales associate approached me during my 15 minutes in the store. When I found a few lipsticks I wished to sample, I could not find alcohol to clean the products. I interrupted a salesperson assisting another customer and she kind of pointed in a general area. I finally found the alcohol....only one location in the store that I could find. There was no trash can to dispose of the tissue I used. Disgusted by the poor behavior of the staff and the limited availability of cleaning stations, I left the store. I've been to this Sephora a handful of times, with the most recent visit occurring today. Jill V assisted me with my bridal-style make-up and she did an absolutely beautiful job. She was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I left today's encounter feeling transformed-- my fiance commented that I looked like a Hollywood star. With Jill's help, I picked several new products including an urban decay palette, two different primers, a new brush, and a setting powder. :] Would definitely come shop at this Sephora again. read more

I used to all of my makeup religiously from Mac. I stopped into this Sephora because it is close to my house and I needed some mascara. Ended up getting my makeup done by one of the girls there, which usually I dislike the idea of. The girl who did it was so nice and patient with my questions, comments and concerns. I like makeup that is quick and easy but looks good! She was able to match my color and requests perfectly and quickly. I can see it in my pictures. My complexion looks flawless and it only takes me about 10 minutes to get ready! - Love this location! read more

I've been to this location 3xs over the past two weeks, and have had to return/exchange products, simply because there is never anyone around to help, or who is willing to help. On 10/29 - I was there at 12:10 p.m., and a tall, full figured latina associate, walked past me no less than 5xs as I was trying to figure out my shade in two different product areas. I absolutely love Sephora. I love going there, I love trying the products, I love the products they carry, and I love talking to the consultants there to get advice and help with what products fit my needs. I am currently VIB Rouge status, which basically means that I shop at Sephora A LOT. This Sephora location is great in that it is always well stocked and have exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, where this location is truly lacking is in the customer service. There are a few select consultants who are amazing and friendly and always helpful, however they are the minority. My last experience there was with a very unpleasant sales associate, who told me about 4-5 times that my return of used products (I believe there were 3-5 products) that I did not like was a waste of revenue for them since they could not resell it after I used it. The first time she mentioned the wastefulness I apologized, as I understand that they have to discard a product after it's been used and returned. However, by the grace of God and because of Sephora's amazing return policy, I don't have to feel guilty about it -- until a disgruntled employee tries to lecture me. So, after her first comment and my apology, I did not engage following her repeated comments. However, after she walked away from me and to a couple of her coworkers nearby, I actually ended up in the same area of the store to try to find some products I needed, and I heard her complaining about me and my returns to her coworkers, which I found very unprofessional and rude. Of course they stopped talking as soon as they saw me, but the fact of the matter is that this behavior should not be happening at all. I spoke to the manager regarding this issue, but at that point the damage was already done. Yesterday, I sent my husband to this location with some returns of (unused!) products that I bought from a JC Penney Sephora. I'm not sure what the Sephora policy is on returns from JC Penney locations, but I will say that the Tysons Sephora location has processed my JC Penney returns multiple times without an issue. However, my husband was told that they could not process the return and would only get store credit. He called me and I told him that the Tysons location had done it before, but when he told this to the cashier, they still did not allow it. I have observed that it's a little more work and little more complicated to process a JC Penney return in a freestanding Sephora store, but to tell your customers that it's not possible is a blatant lie. Maybe they don't know or they just didn't feel like doing the work, but regardless, after these two incidents, I definitely will not be returning to this location unless it is absolutely necessary. read more

I work in Reston Town Center at another retail location and when the girls from Sephora come in they are always the most pleasant and happy customers to talk with and help shop. They also always give me the best suggestions on the coolest new makeup and what is worth the money and what is not. I picked out some awesome Hello Kitty eye shadow sticks at their suggestion and have gotten tons of compliments and the colors are so vivid and fun! read more

Came here a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I like that it is close to home, and the variety of products they have. Unfortunately, the customer service was not up to par. I asked to be matched to a particular foundation line. Generally when I go to get matched at any other place, they do the full face, to ensure the quality of the match. Here, the associate dabbed some on my cheek at the display, said it looked fine, and sent me on my way. The friend I was with, who comes to this location a lot, noted that she had never seen anything like that at a makeup counter/cosmetics store before. I asked for another associate to help me, and they sent me to the same woman, who asked, "didn't I just match you?" I explained to her that I wanted to see it on my whole face to really determine if I wanted it or not. She ended up doing it and it looked great. I even bought the particular brush she used. I wish she had done that in the first place. After that, we went to the skincare section, where the associate there followed us around uncomfortably. We don't need to steal from you, Sephora, nor did we want to. I'll probably be back, just because of proximity. read more
