It's larger than it looks from the outside (there's even an upstairs with used/old books that would be easy to miss, since the staircase is sort of hidden behind a wall of the shop), and they have a pretty great selection for a small independent bookshop. I just needed one book (I thought I might finish the memoir I'd brought with me on my weekend trip to the area), but I left with...3? I can't even remember. I kept finding more intriguing books! It's charming, has a great inventory, and seems a great shop! With so many independent and even chain bookstores closing, it feels like a lot of towns/neighborhoods don't have a bookshop anymore. Shepherdstown residents are lucky to have a shop as wonderful as Four Seasons - a place big enough that you can browse and find a book you didn't even know about before you wandered in. Really a charming shop. I'd happily return if I make to Shepherdstown again!

They have not let me down. Their staff highlights the best books. The pricing isn't lowest you'll find, but I'm ok with that because I'm supporting people and a message, and not a big chain. Few dozen boxes of beat-up, low-grade comics priced as though they were mint by someone who obviously knows little about comics. Seriously: there are modern-age, common, coverless comics with 3.99 marked on them. Even their "premium" back issue in the glass cabinets are largely low and mid-grade books priced as though they were mint. Laughable. Go for the used books - avoid the picked over comic section - it is a waste of time and makes me wince just looking at it. Friendly enough staff.

Yes, easily removable on a gloss surface, generally. HOWEVER, direct-to-paper pricing stickers are a complete dealbreaker for 1960s-1980s matte paperbacks. Vintage paperbacks from publishers like Ace, DAW, and Ballantine used uncoated covers. Trying to peel them off with alcohol or ever a dryer ruin the book's value and is heartbreaking for lovers of old paperbacks. It's unfortunate.

They got rid of their little wine bar several years ago but have expanded their children's section into a comfortable little nook that is perfect for finding your next best read. They also have the best gift selection for adults and children and tons of unique activity books (perfect for snowstorms like this weekend!). Love, love, love this shop.

What's really cool about the place is that they not only have the regular used books selection, they also have a good handful of vintage, pulp fiction type paperbacks from the '50s and earlier. They also have a good selection of First Editions that they keep under lock and key and go for some serious bucks. Of course, being in a WV tourist destination, they also have a little area for locally made soaps and lotions and the like. Not a lot. Just enough to make a couple more bucks. He laughed at me, said good luck, and then followed me around the store. He kept making comments just loud enough for me to hear, such as "magic is as real as religion", "Hagerstown is just full of crazy people these days". I finally turned around and asked him what his problem was, to which he replied "oh I don't have a problem but clearly you do." I immediately left and I will never come back. In fact, I'm going to tell people not to come to this store because the managers are very rude. Eta: I never specified a date, and if your management team was focused on helping customers find such a small section of books, instead of entertaining themselves, I would have given a better rating.
