Shanghai style wontons in a delicate broth. Delicious filling in a fresh, chewy wrapper. Not to be missed.

Character, no, charm and character, made everything feel good. But when they closed, nobody had a clue what was ahead. The good news is, I'm about to tell you why this is a must go. We arrived a little early, planning on having a cocktail at the outside bar, surrounded by waterfalls and firepits. Had the weather been better, I would be sharing that part of the experience, but alas, fate dictated an indoor-only experience on this trip. Not that it made it bad, just left me wanting to come back for that part of the night another time. Now, on to the dinner. If service alone was the reason for 5 stars, Becky would have earned an easy 12. Not only was she timely, but so filled with knowledge of what was being served, both food and wine, that she became an integral part of the evening. The room was minimalist in its design so as to not distract from the main attraction. And the food, well, that's what you've wanted to hear about, so here we go. We began by choosing the tasting menu. While many wonderful options are available ala carte, the tasting menu provided the chance to test the capabilities of the chef and prep staff. They passed with flying colors. The marriage of colors, textures, and outstanding flavors, combined with artistic talent, make even a simple food exotic. They nailed it at every bend. I won't talk about everything, but my favorites were the panne cotta, the ravioli (like chiffon), and the dessert. Oh, and the salad. Oh yeah! Read the menu for details. My dining partners opted for the wine pairing and felt it, like the meal itself, was a tremendous value. I can't argue that for even a moment. Bottom line. Make a reservation, sit in the fancier Finch, and thank me later. PS - the bar also serves food, but that review is for another day.

My fiancee and I booked a table at the two week old restaurant located in the historic, 300+ year old Stockton Inn to celebrate our engagement. The refined but not sedate or stuffy atmosphere hosts just 13 tables, and the service provided, like the food and drink, was phenomenal. The menu looks towards Northern Italy with a handful of raw/salad starters, pasta dishes, entrees, and desserts available, alongside the four course Finch Experience prix fixed. I opted for the Finch Experience; while the kitchen was happy to accomodate requests for vegetarian options, my fiancee kept it to two courses. First up: an amuse bouche ("table grapes") - cauliflower panna cotta with grapes + oil + pepitas. A sweet and savory taste and good indication of the fare to come. Next: bread - brioche with seaweed butter. The puffy bread roll is probably the best taste of brioche either of us have had: buttery, salty, and tender, and boosted by the incredible and subtle umami taste of the butter. Starter: winter chicory salad - chicory + poached pear + fennel salami + shaved pecorino + anchovy. I'm a sucker for anchovy filets in salad, and the bracing brine pairs well with the sweet pear and bitter chicory. Pasta: beef cheek agnolotti - pasta with braised beef cheek + cabbage in a black truffle sauce with dried cherries + hazelnuts. The beef was meltingly tender while the tart cherries and savory hit of the sauce cut through the richness with hazelnuts providing a nice contrast in texture. carnaroli risotto - risotto with wild mushrooms, made vegetarian (without parmigiano on request). Rich, creamy rice mellowed out the delicious funk of the mushrooms Entree: seared duck breast - pan seared duck + chestnut puree + spiced red cabbage + persimmon in a huckleberry jus. Outstanding duck and meltingly tender, with the tart jus harmonizing with the fat honeynut squash - squash + lentils + sunflower gremolata. Perfectly al dente lentils topped the just sweet enough squash Dessert: pavlova - meringue topped with pistachio + blood orange sorbet over a lemon sauce. The play of sweet and tart was the perfect ending to the meal funnel cake - fried dough + powdered sugar. An unexpected treat with the Finch Experience; this was a fine, boardwalk style funnel cake though nowhere near as greasy Drinks: Miss Behavin' - apple brandy + pear brandy + lemon juice + sparkling wine. Bright and fruity without cloying sweetness. The sparkling wine adds a lightness Jack Rose - Calvados + apple brandy + lemon juice + lime juice + house grenadine + raspberry liqueur + orange bitters. Tart and bold, but very drinkable and pairing well with the flavors of the meal. An elite dining experience all around and the staff couldn't be nicer or more professional, even bringing us each a complimentary glass of champagne for our engagement Very highly recommended

We appreciate the invitation from Karin, the Marketing Director, to explore and admire the space, indulge in wine and food, and enjoy live entertainment at this peaceful place. Views of the vineyard and Sourland Mountains are stunning and I couldn't stop gazing at all the beauty. Leashed and friendly dogs are allowed in the outdoor spaces which includes a seasonal tented area, the cabanas along the building, and they can walk around the property. The vineyard tent provides great shade from the sun and weather conditions and is an expansive space with lots of tables and waiter service. Come hungry and thirsty because the menu has so much to offer including Spanish-inspired tapas and entrees. We cleaned off our plates like Brie cleans off her bowl showing how much we enjoyed the pan con tomate, potato leek soup, and patatas bravas. Options include ordering items individually or opt for a wine & food pairing. On Saturdays and Sundays between 11:30am-2:30pm, brunch is also served with some nice specials and offerings. The wine selection is extensive too and we highly recommend a wine tasting flight to sample six varieties and I really enjoyed the reds, with Darryl Mack Cellars Red being my favorite. In addition to tastings, you can order a glass, or a bottle to enjoy with your meal. Live music and other events round out a wonderful experience and makes for a nice day out! We chatted with the manager, Omar, who is very friendly and attentive and was intrigued by Brie's doggy dance to get attention. This place is popular and reservations are recommended as seating cannot be guaranteed for walk-ins. Easily book your visit on their website and check out all that Old York Cellars has to offer. Nearby is the dog friendly attraction, Black River & Western Railroad, with train rides through Ringoes and Flemington.
