    Chicken Pot Pie empanada

Always a go-to when I'm in the area. I especially love the chicken pot pie empanadas. Definitely not a place to sit and vibe but they're always so kind to us! Accessible

Stopped by to try their empanadas. I ordered the beef empanada. It's a good size and full of filling inside. The beef was flavorful. Be sure to get the chimichurri sauce on the side. It compliments the empanada perfectly!

I've been wanting to try this place forever and after having a bad breakfast experience, we decided to cheer up with some empanadas. We ordered a spicy pork, beef, beef potato, guava cream cheese, and banana dulce de leche. They came with chimichurri and we also asked for lemon on the side. Pro tip: ask for the lemon!!! It really elevates the flavor. My fave was the spicy pork. I will say that I was expecting there to be a little more flavor and the beef was a little dry. As I mentioned, the lemon helps a lot!!! With the lemon, the flavor of the meat was brought out. We didn't get a chance to try the gelato or the Alfajores, but we'll come back for that. Service was great and restaurant was clean!

So GOOD!! You can smell the empanadas from outside the sidewalk. It is a small place. There's some indoor seating inside along the wall or outdoor seating available. There's a lot of different fillings. I got the spicy beef and potatoes empanada. It was not spicy at all. Nice flavors. Kinda dry inside, but They have a house freshly-made chimichurri sauce that is DELICIOUS!!! They even sell the chimichurri sauce in jars to go! Adding the chimichurri sauce on the empanadas is PERFECTION! There is also a nice selection of gelato. It is pricey ($6 for a small cup), but ... Wow! The gelato is so good too! An added bonus is they also have vegan empanada options. There's something for everyone TIP: check in with YELP for $1 off any empanada.

Chicken Pot Pie, Beef & Cheese and Spicy Pork Empanadas.

If you like empanadas, this is a good place to visit. I ordered Beef & Cheese, Spicy Pork, and Chicken Pot Pie. The chicken was my favorite; I wish I had ordered more than 1. The beef & cheese was also really good; I'll definitely order it again. I wasn't impressed with the spicy pork, which I didn't find spicy or very flavorful; that's why I gave 4 Stars. Ordering is fast and easy. The staff very friendly. The food quickly ready and piping hot.

Great serving size and tastes authentic and amazing! This also gives many types of flavors for gelato and the empanadas are crispy and tasty. Behind the building there is parking and the indoors is clean and smells nice with kind staff that can give you samples!

Sweet potato and samosa veggie are the vegan options. The sweet potato was the better of the two with more flavor. The samosa veggie was more of a potato and pea mixture and I was missing a samosa flavor. The vegan dough was crispy and had a nice flake to it. The empanadas are hot out of the oven and we didn't wait long for them. They also serve gelato, at least ten different flavors.

I love this little empanada shop I used to come here years ago get their steak potato and they used to have a chicken curry empanada which they no longer have. We decided to have the sweet potato with bean empanada the dough was quite different , much thicker than the chicken and mushroom empanada both different both delicious... and piping hot these are some serious empanadas people.... They also have many different flavors of mouthwatering gelato, we didn't get it this time but we would come back just for the gelato... they actually had a dark chocolateI am just dying to try!

I've searched far and wide for a legit empanada place. The empanadas here are amazing! The bread is soft as a croissant, which makes them different from everyone else. The banana Dulce de leche gelato is great too! Overall it's one of those local places you think you didn't need, but turns out to be the best decision of your lunch life

we tried several empanadas and a greek salad. beef and potato was the kids favorite. My favorite was the spicy pork empanada and the chicken pot pie empanada. the salsa was a decent size they thought the mac n cheese one was ok. the only issue with our visit was it was really hot in the shop so we definitely ate outside.

MAD GOOD! for 4.98 mmmm mmm mmmm. the chicken pot pie empanada is fiiire mad fire. the sauce that comes with is really good too, like a nice garlicky flavor. def reccomend for a quick, cheap, filling munch.

Empanadas & Gelato, what a fun combo! Their empanadas were still warm & the pastry was pleasantly flaky, almost like a croissant. Che to come back to try their Gelato!

    Huge empanada!
    Jennifer H.

I was so impressed by the empanadas here! I got the Mac and cheese empanada and the chicken mushroom empanada. Each empanada was around $5, but they were very large and filling! The Mac and cheese was cheesy, which I appreciated because I've definitely had other Mac and cheese empanadas that have minimum cheese. The chicken mushroom was also tasty. Something unique that I loved here was the green dipping sauce! It added so much flavor to the empanada. You also get $1 off for checking in on Yelp. Definitively recommend this place for a quick bite to eat if you're in the Laguna Beach area!

Would 100% come back. That said, I'd admit, a certain DTLA Michelin restaurant has set my expectations of south of border seafood cuisine a bit too high (starts with H) so I'll try to be reasonable. Also the items picked were surprisingly huge and i was too full to finish my meal. 9/10 The chips tasted delicious, bean dip was something new and delicious, salsa was fresh and bold, and the roasted pepper salsa was surprisingly not too spicy, really good. 8/10 trio de cheviche. Good assortment and size of the dish. Shrimp was ok, I felt it was missing something, octopus was good, my personal favorite was the marinaded tuna. 8/10 seafood chile relleno, not a bad assortment, sides were good, large portions of food. 10/10 Coco rita, this margarita is definitely something different! And pairs with everything amazingly, I love it, and this is coming from someone who normally hates coconut. 9/10 they brought out this chocolate cake I dont see on the menu but they will if it's your birthday, but in my case to celebrate my new engagement. Super moist. The place is really loud ambient wise when busy which was around 8pm which is normal of any popular place but after near closing around 9:30 is pretty quiet and casual on a Sunday. Total bill after a 21% tip ran me total $165 and I had leftovers. Free chips, 1 large giant appetizer, and 1 large entree could potentially feed 3 people if you don't eat a lot. If you don't wanna have leftovers, go easy on the chips but that's gonna be hard.

Great post-beach vibes, amazing service, and delicious tropical eats!…read more After a long day at the beach with the family, we were starving. While walking back to our car, we stumbled upon Royal Hawaiian and spontaneously decided to stop in for a bite. Right from the start, the host and hostess were incredibly friendly and got us seated immediately. That warm hospitality continued throughout the entire meal--every single employee who serviced our table was remarkably attentive and welcoming. We ordered a massive spread of drinks and dishes, and for the most part, the food was completely on point: The Drinks: We tried the Triple Happiness (which brought plenty of happiness indeed!), the POG, the Lapu Layover, and the mocktail Piña No-Lada. They were refreshing, fun, and the perfect way to cool down after being out in the sun. Shrimp Garlic Noodles: This was a major highlight of the night. The garlic shrimp was absolutely great--savory, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. Broke da Mouth Onion & ROHO Fries: Both of these sides were delicious. The onion was perfectly crispy with a great dipping sauce, and the fries were excellent. Musubi & Fried Katsu Chicken Sandwich: Really solid, comforting flavors that everyone enjoyed. Loco Moco: This was the only dish that fell a bit flat for us. I've had my fair share of loco mocos over the years, and this one was just a bit too much on the bland side and lacked that deep, savory punch you look for in the gravy. Even with the one minor miss on the loco moco, the overall experience, excellent flavors on the rest of the menu, and top-tier staff made this a fantastic meal. We would absolutely come back!

They were knowledgeable, friendly, personable, and never missed a beat. For drinks, my boyfriend ordered the Zombie and the Guanko Grog, while I enjoyed the Chi Chi Royale and the Nui Nui. Every cocktail was perfectly balanced, beautifully crafted, and deceptively strong. Royal absolutely nailed it. We started with the Spam Musubi, which was delicious. It was so flavorful that it didn't need any extra soy sauce, and we appreciated that it was cut in half for sharing. Later, we ordered the Poke Bowl. It's a bit more salad-forward than a traditional poke bowl, with plenty of fresh greens, but the flavors were spot on and the tuna was incredibly fresh. We also tried the Loco Moco, and I can honestly say it may have had the best gravy we've ever had. It was rich, flavorful, and completely unforgettable. Between the outstanding cocktails, delicious food, and excellent service, this was easily one of the highlights of our trip. We can't wait to come back and work our way through more of the menu!

We came in at about 1230 on Saturday May 23, and were able to sit right away which was nice. The problem is when a restaurant is slow the service can be too. It took a while to order, our coffee was only filled one time, and sat empty for about half of the meal. My sourdough toast was not provided at the meal and I had to ask for it. I was also surprised that it was a single piece of toast. I've never heard of a single piece of toast being delivered with a meal. My wife also ordered the combo breakfast with the smallest sausage I've ever seen. It was actually funny when we saw it. They even messed up my daughter's order (delivered potatoes instead of fruit), but they did provide her with her fruit subsequently and it was a nice fruit plate. We even had to remind them of the whipped cream we ordered on the pancakes. My corned beef hash and eggs were OK but nothing I would write home about. Breakfast was average / below average. Im pretty disappointed. I grew up in Laguna and I have been to Penguin Café at least 100 times and I've never had an experience like that.

The owner served us initially, and he was really friendly and funny. We ordered a bottle of wine, and some cocktails. We put in some salads and an appetizer, they were really really good. But after that, our server (the owner we were told) left, and another server introduced himself. The new server was inattentive. He sat chatting with the other servers at the bar, leaving empty glasses and empty plates on the table. We had to flag him to come back to fill water. Having been myself in the service industry for years, my biggest pet peeve is when servers sit and chat where you can see them, and when they do come, they don't do a sweep and take care of things on the table. We had to put our empty glasses and trash on a side table. It was weird. The bolognese had hardly any meat in it. It was mostly tomato and onion. I've been to Argentina. Meat is a staple. Also weird. We ordered dessert and after waiting for 5-10 minutes, the server came back and told us they were missing crucial ingredients to make it. The owner came back at the end and was really gracious, but all in all, I think the execution was lacking. The service was not great. The food was 3.5/5 I love to support small business, perhaps we will try again another night.
