Brought my folks to the @royalhawaiianoc since my dad cannot travel due to his injured leg. They loved it so much! They dressed up, took pictures, loved the live music, enjoyed the incredible dishes, and admired the gorgeous tiki decor!! Loved my cocktail !! This is the place to get strong yet delicious Tiki drinks! Ănd you can't go wrong with their food. Some standouts were the poke nachos, the Mahi Mahi, the slab of ribs and ribeye was cooked perfectly Coconut cake was not too sweet and delicious, too!! Lava cake was very sweet if you like sweet. My dad also loved the mochiko chicken and my mom couldn't stop eating that onion blossom as a guilty pleasure. - they have a parking lot valet $12 which made it easy - it's also a short walk down to the water! For beautiful views and photo ops! Loved the live music from guest performer @pilottouhill and make sure to check back if they have events.

We ended up here because Truly pizza was all booked. The atmosphere is definitely unique. Very dungeon like and dark. Our server was very nice. The food was good. We got coconut shrimp with a sweet chili sauce to start. The portion for the price was not what I expected. We got 4 small pieces and I believe it was $19. Would not order that again. My shrimp entree again was pretty good. Definitely not anything special that I would return for again. The drinks are very cool but the prices are not. Mostly over $20.

This place is always a fun experience for the kids. I'm not really a frequent customer here. I've been maybe three times in a year. I don't expect much fanfare. It's basic Hawaiian food and drinks. Got the Loco Moco with the Mac Salad. The hamburger patty was a bit too salty. The patty itself was tender though. Mac Salad was good. Had a lot of egg yolk mixed in. Pineapple fried rice was good. Kids killed their portions pretty quick. Biggest hit was the fish and chips. The fish was super fresh and tender. The batter was really crispy. Definitely will get this again. I would say the cocktails were a bit too light. Need a little more booze to really enjoy it. We sat in the booth. It was long but narrow. The table filled pretty quick with all the dishes so it was a bit of a struggle to make space and be comfortable. Don't forget to check out the fish tank and take a cute picture at the shell bench.

Such a beautiful classic Hawaiian restaurant. Walk inside an be transported to a Hawaiian get away. Beautiful drinks and food. The favorite for myself is always the poke nachos. Super fresh, lots of fish, perfect on top of wonton chips. Lots of fun tiki drinks all are made great! Staff is always super friendly and make the experience great.

Fun tiki bar vibes with live music and awesome cocktails! Today was my fiancé's last day in Laguna so we decided to go to Royal Hawaiian! When she first moved to Laguna this was one of the first places she went so it was fitting. First off the decor is spot on, they didn't miss a single inch of the place. There was a live band playing some great music. We each got a specialty cocktail in a souvenir glass. I got the Royal Hawaiian which had 2 types of rum, a light and a dark, with some citrusy notes. It was pretty good, decently strong. She got the Dragon's Milk which was soooo good. If you like piña coladas you'll like this drink, it's not the same it's much more coconut flavor and complex but very sweet. For dinner I got the top sirloin culotte with garlic butter veggies and pineapple slaw. It was cooked a perfect medium rare but could've used more seasoning. The sides were perfect. She got the Huli Huli chicken and the same sides. The chicken was cooked nicely and still pretty juicy. It had a good flavor from the citrus lemongrass marinade. I'll have to go back and try some other dishes sometime. The service was great, always someone coming by to fill our waters and take away finished plates. Our server was so nice and helpful choosing some cocktails from their extensive menu. Thanks for a great night Royal Hawaiian!

The Service here is amazing! Omar was great the entire night. I appreciate the entire staff for taking care of our large party for my friends birthday. I would come back for service and drinks alone. The food was okay. I ordered the garlic shrimp noodles, good portion decent flavor. You have the option to add chicken for an extra 6$. Some of the girls opted for that and really enjoyed it. All of the drinks we ordered that I was able to try were really good. The restaurant itself was very cute and perfectly themed.

The drinks were great! The menu covered all classic Hawaiian dishes from short ribs to Hawaiian macaroni as a side. Very pleased with the service. The vibe of the place is awesome and tiki worthy. The music is perfect. A great place for a good drink and meal or dessert- coconut cake was a nice ending to the evening.

So the first time I came to the Royal Hawaiian I had an amazing time, as noted is my last review, this time, I have to say we really didn't have that same great time. This time we were with our kids so we had to sit at a table, and this was a VASTLY different experience from the bar. There was only one server handling the entire restoring as far as people actually seated at tables. First off there wasn't enough menus and they kept having to be passed table to table which was quite annoying for the way we like to sip and eat. Next we got mostly ignored the entire time, there wasn't even many people in the restaurant and it took about 50 minutes to get our first drink. The food was good, same as last time really, but the drinks were also not the same at all, I'm not sure what was going on but everything was much more mild on the rum, and the flavors were not the same. The final part came in the form of us leaving, as we left we walked by a christmas specials menu... That wasn't even offered to us the entire time we were there and we would have loved to try it out. :/ I can see myself coming back for the bar only, but im not sure I will come back with the family and the intention of sitting at a table. It's a shame, this is something that has to be fixed, there is not only history in the place, but it is TRULY gorgeous inside.

Didn't try much, but I liked what I had! Great ambience, nice service, and cool music. I'll be back!

The Royal Hawaiian is one of the oldest tiki bars in California, originally established in 1947. It is located in Laguna Beach right on Pacific Coast Highway near Cliff Drive. Parking is generally pretty hard to find in this area. However, if you are coming south on PCH, right before you get to the building, there is a driveway and small valet parking lot on the right. The first two hours is free if you present a receipt from the restaurant after your visit. After that, it is $10 per hour. The valet personnel were professional and took good care of my car. They do have patio seating out front, but obviously you want to be inside. They have a restaurant style dining area, but I would recommend sitting in the bar area which is more lively and has a lot to look at. We sat at the bar instead of at one of the tables or booths in the bar area. This allowed us to enjoy chatting with the staff. We even met a couple sitting next to us who has been coming here for 35 years. Rather than having a full dinner, we just decided to have a few rounds of drinks with some appetizers. I started out with the Banana Smuggler cocktail (pineapple & dark rums, banana du bresil, maderia reduction, $18). It had a nice banana flavor that was somewhere between light and medium, and it was a little boozy. She started out with the trademark Royal Hawaiian cocktail (gold rum, Jamaican black pot still, acid-adjusted pineapple, $18). It had a nice pineapple flavor, and was boozy. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer ($21.95). It came with six small to medium sized shrimp that were fried well and had a nice coconut flavor. This appetizer is way overpriced. We also ordered the steamed chicken dumplings appetizer ($15.95). It came with six medium sized dumplings that were not over-steamed or soggy, and had nice flavor. This appetizer was more reasonably priced. My second cocktail was the Triple Happiness (mezcal, blanco tequila, cherry heering, pineapple honey, fire bitters, $18). This drink came in a very cool skull cup with a flaming orange slice on top. The smokiness of the mezcal was at a good medium level, there was a light cherry flavor, and there was also a hint of heat from the fire bitters. Her second cocktail was the Chief Lapu Lapu (light & dark rums, passion fruit, orange, $18). This was a little on the sweeter side, and you could definitely taste the passion fruit. This one was very boozy. We were still a little hungry, so we ordered the Fish & Chips entrée ($25.95) to share. The two pieces of fish were fried well, and were a pretty generous size. The fries were also fresh and had a good crisp. We barely finished it all. The place has a great vibe, and there is a lot of great décor to look at. There was a DJ set up at the end of the bar playing great island music that helped set the mood. The drinks had a great presentation and we enjoyed them all. They were all somewhat on the strong and boozy side, but in a good way. The food was good, but next time we would probably eat somewhere else and then come here for a few drinks and maybe an appetizer. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and provided great service. If you go to their website, they are currently advertising a deal where if you pay your bill using the InKind rewards app, you'll get $30 off your purchase of $90 or more. I used it and it does work. We had a great time and will definitely return.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Classic tiki bar/restaurant with great drinks and good food. The hubby and I stopped in early on a Thursday evening for dinner and drinks. There was plenty of seating available but we opted to sit at the bar. This place is a Laguna Beach institution, and I think it underwent a renovation about 20 years ago. The place is huge, with a classic tiki look that's not too cheesy. Classy tiki, if you will. The hubby had the Mai Tai, which he enjoyed, and I got the Dragon's milk, which was really delicious. It was creamy with a unique flavor with the pandan and lots of fresh basil. Also not too sweet--possibly my fave tiki drink yet. While the menu was predictably meat centric, there were a few veg options: - Vegan tofu tikka masala with rice (unusual offering at a tiki bar, but welcome. Big chunks of tofu in a tomato-ginger sauce with Indian spices--we really enjoyed it) - French fries (the crinkly kind, frozen, presumably, but good) - Veg egg rolls (good, well-fried, but nothing spectacular) I saw the shrimp garlic noodles on the menu and wondered if they'd make it with tofu? Maybe I'll ask next time. Service was efficient but not overly friendly. We did strike up a nice conversation with another couple at the bar, though, which is why we like sitting at the bar sometimes. Anyhoo, a solid visit; would stop by again.

Loco moco (salty) and beef patty (over cooked). Macaroni salad was okay but missing that WoW taste.

Food and service were mediocre. The tiki atmosphere was remarkably pleasant:) The food needs some improvement.

If you are looking for a unique dinning experience look no further than the Royal Hawaiian. Visited on a Thursday night and the restaurant was fairly empty. Both our host and server were upbeat and friendly. The restaurant is decked out in themed decor perfect for all the photo ops. To start I ordered the Spam Musubi. This was my first time ever having spam, and I'm glad I tried it. It wasn't anything to run home about but it was tasty. For the main I tried the Curry Pineapple Fried rice and the Machiko Chicken Bowl. The Curry Fried rice was a little salty and ended up trading entrees with my husband. He ended up asking for a side of teriyaki sauce and the creamy sauce on the chicken bowl which he says made the fried rice amazing! The Chicken bowl was delicious - the chicken crispy which paired nicely with the rice and slaw. Overall I would love to visit again and try some other menu items!

After a farewell dinner to/at Gulliver's Prime Ribs Of Beef, our party of six continued the evening several miles away at Stowaway for some light bites and libations. Personally, I was all about the Hawaiiana tiki culture and tried to live it every day. Founded by co-owners Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, its current home of barely three years in a former dive bar came about when they unceremoniously had to leave the original location. With its proximity to Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room and the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture, they found their footing with a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, and tropical trimmings. Would I stow myself away somewhere inside and never leave!? PURCHASE(S) Don Q Punch Bowl ($38.00): Made with Don Q's Cristal Silver, Anejo, and 151 Gold Rums, respectively, peach brandy, passion fruit, pineapple juice, and citrus juices, this flaming concoction was rumtastic in every way possible as the tropical juices just made it that much sweeter. There were more ice chips than I liked, but it was a fun trough to drink out of for the four of us who wanted to imbibe. Coconut Shrimp 6pc ($12.00): Breaded and flash-fried plump shrimp served with a sweet chili dipping sauce, these were tasty and perfectly paired with the Don Q cocktail I was drinking. Stowaway Fries ($17.00): Constructed with a pile of crisp golden spud sticks, rum braised pork, and topped with a hearty gravy and sunny-side up egg, this loco moco fries dish was slamming while the slightly charred juicy pork had me squealing with enjoyment. SERVICE We had reservations, so once our entire party arrived, they quickly seated us in a cool cave-live separate alcove for more privacy. Our server arrived with menus, suggestions, and glasses of water. Minutes later, we all ordered at once, and everything (drinks and food) arrived within ten minutes. Because we had another reservation inside the same bar, we informed our male server and to let us know when we were allowed to go there. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located within a strip mall, you opened the front door and walked into an island oasis as if you were a cast member on "Gilligan's Island" with thatched roof material above you, tiki statues displaced on all of the volcanic-looking walls, collections of tiki mugs past and present for purchase, a central square bar with plenty of stools, and seemingly small dark nooks and private spaces where naughty things could happen. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights barely guided you along. There were no TVs while I recalled various styles of music played in the background along with chatter and clamor of conversations in all directions. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL I had a cowabunga time at Stowaway, and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I loved tiki bars, and although this was generally out of my range, I'd make a special trip or two here. My one drink was lip-smacking good, the pupus were yummy, the prices were reasonable enough, the atmosphere was stupendous, and the service was friendly and professional. While the drinks menu was loaded with tropical cocktails, an impressive rum selection, and a decent assortment of local craft beers, the food menu was somewhat limited. And, the bar had happy hour TU-FR 4pm-6pm. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $75.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Their website teases that food is coming soon. It is a fairly small place and I would definitely recommend making a reservation on Yelp. If there are no reservations available when you want to visit, they also have a Yelp live waitlist. The building has its own parking lot with about ten spaces and is shared with the sushi speakeasy upstairs. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Sunday night, and luckily there were still quite a few spaces available. A half hour later, the place was packed. The outside of the building is not marked. Enter through the red double doors in front, walk to the right, and the entrance will be easy to spot. Seating options include eight seats at the bar, four high-top tables in the main area that seat four people each, and a slightly raised grotto area with one four-seat table and two two-seat tables. We often like to sit at the bar, but I reserved a table in the grotto so we could get the full experience and I'm glad I did. The interior has great décor with a mix of tiki and pirate ship elements. The walls are wooden plank, with cargo netting, ropes, and tiki lights above. The walls have portraits of Goonies movie characters. Take two steps up to the grotto area, and you are inside of a cave with skulls, shells, and treasures embedded in the cave walls. There is also a small waterfall in the corner. Scan the QR code on the table for the cocktail menu. It is colorful and many of the drinks have names tied to The Goonies. Each drink also has zero, one, or two skulls next to it to indicate the booziness factor. They have quite a few original cocktails as well as classic tiki drinks, a few mocktails, spirits, beer, and wine. I started out with the Ash Landing (Hamilton Pot Still Blonde Rum, Hamilton 86 Demerara Rum, Hamilton Pimento Dram, Angostura Bitters, Pineapple, Lime, Ginger, One Skull booziness, $14). This was definitely a little on the boozy side, with good ginger flavor and the pineapple and lime in the background. She started out with the One-Eyed Willy (Pou Vodka, Lychee, Guava, Coconut, Sweet & Sour, $15, keep the mug for $65). It is rare that a vodka drink is my favorite of the night, but this was both of our favorites. It was very balanced and juicy, and not boozy at all. The guava, coconut, and citrus from the sweet and sour were all there. We bought the mug, and they bring you a new one in original packaging. The purchased mug is colored a little differently (blue instead of black) than the mug the drink is served it, but it still looks great. While walking around taking pictures, I ran into our server and mentioned that it was my girlfriend's birthday. He kindly brought us some shots on the house. He said it was a recipe they had for shots during Halloween, and it tasted like a spin on a kamikaze. It was very good and much appreciated. I have a hard time resisting a cool mug, so for my second drink I ordered the Slick Shoes (Planteray Pineapple Rum, Worthy Park Rum, Bounty Dark Rum, Strawberry, Papaya, Lime Juice, $17). It is served in a cool sneaker mug with a flaming lime half on top. It was nicely balanced and just a tiny bit boozy. It had a nice light fruit flavor, not overly sweet at all. I think it is sometimes served in a regular glass, so if you order it, be sure to ask for the sneaker mug. Her second cocktail was the Never Say Die (Producer Mezcal, Kiwi, Lemon, Mango, Grilled Pineapple, $14). The smokiness of the mezcal was on the hairy edge of being too smoky for me, but she loved it. She could taste the kiwi and mango. We shared one last drink, the Garden of Eden (Papa's Pilar Blonde Rum, Lavender, Lemon, Elderflower, Cucumber Bitters, One Skull booziness, $17). It had an interesting (good) floral flavor profile, and didn't strike me as boozy at all. I could definitely taste the cucumber notes from the bitters. There was good 80s music playing in the background. It's a Goonies themed bar, I get it, but we would have enjoyed a few tiki songs in the mix too. There is one unisex restroom out in the lobby area. It is nice that they also themed it with wooden plank on the walls and ceiling, and some nautical décor. Daniel was our server and was very friendly and provided great service. Thanks again Daniel for the birthday shots! Bartender Felipe also delivered one round of our drinks and was also very friendly. All of the drinks were good and there are definitely more on the menu that we would like to return and try. We had a real fun time, thanks Lost Inferno!

The best part of Strong Water is the immersive experience you feel sitting inside. We sat in the Captain's quarters which was an intimate spot for great conversation. Our waiter was very friendly and gave plenty of options. We opted for the Crispy Tuna Appetizer which unfortunately was not good at all. The tuna and toppings were okay but the crispy rice tasted like fried fair food almost with the texture of a rice cake. Hopefully, their other dishes are better. For drinks, the waiter helped select the Banana Batida for me which was very lovely! I love how customized the recommendations were. My partner ordered a rum drink which he enjoyed as well. We finished off with a brownie dessert. I really enjoyed the passion fruit puree and kiwi topping. The brownie tasted good but was very dense which isn't my preference. Overall, would recommend. Prioritize the drinks over the food in my opinion

The Lanai is located in the Cravings food court area at The Station shopping center in Eastvale. There is plenty of parking available. We went inside to the Shuck Oyster bar and entered The Lanai from there. It is actually more of a tiki patio than an enclosed tiki bar. However, the tiki décor is great with plenty of bamboo, carved tiki figures, hanging puffer fish, tiki style signs, and many tropical accents. There are overhead fans spaced around in case it is hot outside. We had one round of drinks and several appetizers. The coconut shrimp and lightly battered Shishito peppers were great and the sauces paired well. We have had these appetizers at Stowaway before and they had the same good quality. She ordered the spicy tofu bites. I'm not usually a fan of tofu, but they were surprisingly really good. I had the Adrian's Mistake cocktail which was well balanced and a little on the strong side. She had the Right Of Passage which was good and had a light fruit flavor and you could definitely taste the mango. The one man show Brandon took great care of us. It was slow at this time of day so we got a chance to chat with him quite a bit and service was fast. They have a weekday happy hour from 4pm to 6pm. Although we didn't specifically order off the happy hour menu, three of our items, including both cocktails were part on it. I give it 4.3 stars but rounded up to five stars. I'm sure the ambience is much better in the evening when it more lively and dark outside. They have a good variety of munchies, and the cocktail menu has a good mix of tiki classics and some originals. I don't think there any many tiki bars in this area, so I hope they do well.

We went to another stall that told us they had a gas leak so the building had to be evacuated. We ended up going back to order Painkillers to sit on the patio. They're weren't great. I've had much better. We'll return in winter to try again. We don't live in the area so hoping for a better experience next time.

Had reservations for a party of four (made via online) and was seated right away. Ambiance is dark and intimate but seating was enough to feel like you had room. Drinks were delicious and strong and service was great and quick. You are limited to eating and drinking within a certain time frame but it's not bad as the servers are on it. Drinks 10/10 and food 10/10. I'm still craving their burger, one of the best ones I have had, I can't even compare it to anywhere else. Bathrooms are located outside of the speakeasy.

Not sure if reservations are required, but this speakeasy is pretty tiny so I can't imagine it can accommodate walk ins. We had a reservation for 8pm on a Friday night. The door is very well hidden, I thought it'd be in a basement around the corner or something. The space is really small, so big groups are not advised. I had the niña fresa, a strawberries and creme type drink. Delicious! If you like sweet drinks, otherwise do not get it. I had the Saturn afterwards. Still a little sweet, but mostly sour. The server came by to say that we only had 25 min left, so we hurriedly ordered a last drink. But when he delivered it, it magically became 5 min! I chugged my drink and was ushered out the door. Overall it was pretty nice but I didn't enjoy having to rush at the very end.
