This Mexican restaurant in south Laguna is casual in atmosphere but strong in good food! Seating inside or outside on the patio area. Prices were very good and the portions large. There is a salsa bar where you can choose the level of heat you like- mild, medium or spicy. The staff friendly and service was quick. I had the blackened mahi mahi burrito. It came with a side of tortilla chips. It was full of fish, fresh cabbage, rice and beans. The fish was prominent and rice and beans were accompaniment and not just filler! It was moist and flavorful! The salsas were also fresh and the hot salsa had taste to go along with heat. Now if you like heat- my son had the Diablo Quesadilla! While I wouldn't say it's traditional Mexican food, it's a lighter way to indulge on those beach days. My bowl was loaded with thinly sliced cabbage, tomatoes, and the chicken was tender and delicious. They were also very generous with the guacamole, and it was probably the best tasting guacamole I've had from a restaurant. Great location--right across from the Montage and easy to swing by after hanging out at Treasure Island. I tried the carnitas, carne asada, and calamari tacos. The carnitas were solid with good flavor. The carne asada was a bit tough and kind of bland, not really doing it for me. The tortillas didn't hold up and kept falling apart, which made the tacos hard to eat. The calamari tacos had way too much guac--I could barely taste the calamari under it all. The complimentary chips and salsa bar were a nice touch, though! Fresh and flavorful. Overall, I'm glad I checked it out, but I've had better tacos elsewhere. My husband's burrito came out pretty quickly but after 10 min of waiting for my burrito bowl, I finally went up to the counter and asked him to grab it off the line for me because I could see it sitting there waiting to be brought out, (because everyone else was distracted with the new TV). I was annoyed by the time I finally got my food but after taking the first bite I got over it. The fish of the day burrito bowl was SO good! The flavor of the fish and the sauce was a perfect match and I devoured the entire thing. I highly recommend ordering it. My husband's burrito was also good but my meal was definitely better. Shared plates- quesadilla, shrimp tacos, tortilla soup and burrito bowl. The food was flavorful and good but wouldn't go out of my way for it. The margarita of the months are fun and the guava margarita was good. It was busy when we arrived, not a ton of indoor tables but bar space and outside patio with heaters. Food was great! We ordered the carne asada fries and the catch of the day burrito which happened to be shrimp! The carne asada fries were good. The steak was tender, flavorful, and you could tell it was a great cut. The shrimp burrito had a generous amount of protein in it and it paired well with our choice of black beans inside the burrito. Ate half of the burrito that night and then took the rest to work the next day and it still held up very well. For drinks, we ordered some spicy margaritas. Pretty standard but refreshing. They had a very large array of beers on tap. The bar looked like a brewery wall. Will try some beers on our next visit. Ambiance was casual. You could tell people came in for the quality of food, not really for the vibes. It's a quality place that attracts all people who enjoy a good meal. I love that they still have an open salsa bar. A lot of establishments have got rid of that, so it's cool to see they're still using it! Our favorite salsa was the green. And we loved the pico and the fact that we could get as many limes as we'd like Service was "fast casual", so we went up to the bar to order and was then given a number and the food was taken out to our table. We always have a great experience at this location. I've been here 5 times I the last month and haven't been disappointed by the service, food quality or portions. I've had the burrito, enchilada plate, tacos - fish, beef, chicken. Among the three, I thought the chicken was a bit bland and dry. The beef and blackened fish have always been on point. The bar had all kinds of options and they have a solid rotating beer list. The house Marg never disappoints. Reading the other reviews, I'm surprised by some of the complaints because I've never had any of the issues mentioned. But I've never had a takeout order from this location either. This is where I take all of my visiting family and friends after some fun in the sun across the street. They always ask to go back when they revisit! My go-to is the chicken nachos, which are the best I've had in CA! And of course a refreshing Caddy Marg. They also have a great selection of local craft beers and even wine if that's your thing. My mom loves the salmon salad (personally I would never when the opportunity for fabulous Mexican food is available, but she raves about it!)
