    Well...

To be honest... I'm shocked this place has such a high rating on Yelp! I wanted to like these Empanadas so bad but they fell far short! It was small and clean. Service was fine. I bought my food through the Too Good To Go App. The empanada filling in the 4 I got were not good. Not sure why this place scores so well. I ended up tossing all the empanadas after a bite. Just greasy and flavorless. No sauce included. Seemed deep fried vs baked. I'd avoid this place.

Always a go-to when I'm in the area. I especially love the chicken pot pie empanadas. Definitely not a place to sit and vibe but they're always so kind to us! Accessible

Stopped by to try their empanadas. I ordered the beef empanada. It's a good size and full of filling inside. The beef was flavorful. Be sure to get the chimichurri sauce on the side. It compliments the empanada perfectly!

I've been wanting to try this place forever and after having a bad breakfast experience, we decided to cheer up with some empanadas. We ordered a spicy pork, beef, beef potato, guava cream cheese, and banana dulce de leche. They came with chimichurri and we also asked for lemon on the side. Pro tip: ask for the lemon!!! It really elevates the flavor. My fave was the spicy pork. I will say that I was expecting there to be a little more flavor and the beef was a little dry. As I mentioned, the lemon helps a lot!!! With the lemon, the flavor of the meat was brought out. We didn't get a chance to try the gelato or the Alfajores, but we'll come back for that. Service was great and restaurant was clean!

So GOOD!! You can smell the empanadas from outside the sidewalk. It is a small place. There's some indoor seating inside along the wall or outdoor seating available. There's a lot of different fillings. I got the spicy beef and potatoes empanada. It was not spicy at all. Nice flavors. Kinda dry inside, but They have a house freshly-made chimichurri sauce that is DELICIOUS!!! They even sell the chimichurri sauce in jars to go! Adding the chimichurri sauce on the empanadas is PERFECTION! There is also a nice selection of gelato. It is pricey ($6 for a small cup), but ... Wow! The gelato is so good too! An added bonus is they also have vegan empanada options. There's something for everyone TIP: check in with YELP for $1 off any empanada.

If you like empanadas, this is a good place to visit. I ordered Beef & Cheese, Spicy Pork, and Chicken Pot Pie. The chicken was my favorite; I wish I had ordered more than 1. The beef & cheese was also really good; I'll definitely order it again. I wasn't impressed with the spicy pork, which I didn't find spicy or very flavorful; that's why I gave 4 Stars. Ordering is fast and easy. The staff very friendly. The food quickly ready and piping hot.

Great serving size and tastes authentic and amazing! This also gives many types of flavors for gelato and the empanadas are crispy and tasty. Behind the building there is parking and the indoors is clean and smells nice with kind staff that can give you samples!

Sweet potato and samosa veggie are the vegan options. The sweet potato was the better of the two with more flavor. The samosa veggie was more of a potato and pea mixture and I was missing a samosa flavor. The vegan dough was crispy and had a nice flake to it. The empanadas are hot out of the oven and we didn't wait long for them. They also serve gelato, at least ten different flavors.

I love this little empanada shop I used to come here years ago get their steak potato and they used to have a chicken curry empanada which they no longer have. We decided to have the sweet potato with bean empanada the dough was quite different , much thicker than the chicken and mushroom empanada both different both delicious... and piping hot these are some serious empanadas people.... They also have many different flavors of mouthwatering gelato, we didn't get it this time but we would come back just for the gelato... they actually had a dark chocolateI am just dying to try!

I've searched far and wide for a legit empanada place. The empanadas here are amazing! The bread is soft as a croissant, which makes them different from everyone else. The banana Dulce de leche gelato is great too! Overall it's one of those local places you think you didn't need, but turns out to be the best decision of your lunch life

we tried several empanadas and a greek salad. beef and potato was the kids favorite. My favorite was the spicy pork empanada and the chicken pot pie empanada. the salsa was a decent size they thought the mac n cheese one was ok. the only issue with our visit was it was really hot in the shop so we definitely ate outside.

Empanadas & Gelato, what a fun combo! Their empanadas were still warm & the pastry was pleasantly flaky, almost like a croissant. Che to come back to try their Gelato!

    Huge empanada!

I had been looking forward to trying it, but unfortunately my experience was a little mixed. First, the parking situation was incredibly disappointing. There's no valet, and finding street parking in the surrounding area was absolutely insane--and this was on a weekday! I actually like to walk and am in good shape, but I finally found a spot several blocks away and couldn't help wondering what everyone else does for parking. My husband got much luckier and happened to snag a spot near the restaurant when he arrived from work. For dinner, I was excited to try the seafood enchiladas, but they were SO spicy. I normally enjoy a little heat, but the level of spice completely overwhelmed the dish for me, especially since I don't remember seeing anything on the menu indicating that they were particularly spicy. I'll take some responsibility here because I didn't say anything to our server, who was actually wonderful. I'm sure they would have happily addressed it or remade the dish had I spoken up. The sides didn't stand out to me, either. Our usual go-to for Mexican food is Calo Kitchen in Laguna Niguel, and based on this particular meal, I didn't think South of Nick's was quite as good. That said, everyone else at our table seemed to really enjoy what they ordered, so I think I may have just had an unfortunate choice with my dish. The service was great, and I'd be willing to give it another try and order something different next time. I'm just not sure I want to deal with that parking again!

I arrived ahead of my friends for a late lunch/early dinner and walked up to the host stand to ask if there was a table available. I was immediately told the restaurant was completely booked. I texted my friends to see if they had made reservations, and thankfully they had. When we checked in together, we clearly told the staff that we had dogs with us and assumed we'd be seated on the patio. Instead, we were seated inside. We thought it was odd, but trusted there was a reason for it. What made the experience so confusing was that we spent about an hour and a half there, and the restaurant remained almost completely empty the entire time. The patio was also essentially empty. The only other party seated near us was upset that there were dogs inside and made it very obvious. To be clear, we never asked to sit indoors....we expected and preferred the patio. As we were leaving, I overheard the host ask another employee, "Do you think that dog's actually a service dog?" That caught me completely off guard because we never claimed our dogs were service animals. It felt like an unnecessary assumption. Looking back, the entire experience left me with more questions than answers. Why tell someone the restaurant is completely booked when both the dining room and patio stayed largely empty? Why seat guests with dogs inside when the patio was available? I don't make accusations lightly, but as a person of color, I couldn't help but wonder whether I was being treated differently. I can't say for certain that was the case, but it's how the experience made me feel, and it's not something I've ever felt comfortable writing in a review before. To make matters worse, the food didn't make up for the experience. It was mediocre at best, especially considering the prices. For what they charge, I expected much better quality and flavor. Instead, I left feeling like I had overpaid for an underwhelming meal. Overall, I walked away feeling confused, unwelcome, and disappointed. Between the strange seating situation, the comments from the staff, the overpriced food, and the overall experience, I don't see myself returning.

I lived in Madrid and speak the language, so had you told me that from the beginning, I might have felt different about our dinner!? Should have realized this when the sangria arrived for my wife and she said, "Try it." More like a spritzer than a traditional sangria with red wine, fruit, etc. My Tempranillo was excellent though (1/2 star). For those of you who don't know, "tapa", comes from the Spanish word tapar = to cover. Typically, small dishes of food to share that originated from Southern Spain. The empeñadas tasted OK and only 2 tiny bites per plate. Next, we had the ramoulade, which are small pieces of beets, goat cheese and pecans. Probably my favorite dish of the night if I had to choose (1/2 star). Had the meatball dish and Jamón with bread too, and we also tried the patatas bravas (didn't recognize this dish at all...LOL). Finished it off with the paella (where's the rice???). This was the MOST astonishing dish of the night. About 1/8 the size of a traditional paella dish in Spain (these dishes are NOT tapas in Spain), so we all looked at each other and laughed! And at $40+ dollars, with the lamb chops overcooked, was the worst dish of the night. I know people will say this is California Tapas so what do you expect!? The owner served us initially, and he was really friendly and funny. We ordered a bottle of wine, and some cocktails. We put in some salads and an appetizer, they were really really good. But after that, our server (the owner we were told) left, and another server introduced himself. The new server was inattentive. He sat chatting with the other servers at the bar, leaving empty glasses and empty plates on the table. We had to flag him to come back to fill water. Having been myself in the service industry for years, my biggest pet peeve is when servers sit and chat where you can see them, and when they do come, they don't do a sweep and take care of things on the table. We had to put our empty glasses and trash on a side table. It was weird. The bolognese had hardly any meat in it. It was mostly tomato and onion. I've been to Argentina. Meat is a staple. Also weird. We ordered dessert and after waiting for 5-10 minutes, the server came back and told us they were missing crucial ingredients to make it. The owner came back at the end and was really gracious, but all in all, I think the execution was lacking. The service was not great. The food was 3.5/5 I love to support small business, perhaps we will try again another night.
