This place was amazing. My only thought is that next time I come back, I am getting at least 2 empanadas. A very unique type of restaurant. They have many to choose from including vegetarian. The pastry dough is really good...buttery, flakey, light, and crisp. We tried the beef & potato, chicken pot pie, and prosciutto. Combined with their house made chimichurri, this made for a great pit stop snack. The beef & potato and the chicken pot pie were really good...I wanted to like the prosciutto, but it was really salty and combined with cheese and the pastry, it was too salty for me. They make and sell sangria, but you have to dine inside their store...which can get really got given the oven power it takes to bake all of these flaky treats. One empanada is more than enough to slice and share between 2. They serve the empanadas and wooden boards with chimichurri and hot sauce on the side. If we're ever in the neighborhood, we wouldn't hesitate to come back. read more

He had a lil accent haha (just not sure if he's Sergio or not lol) When you first walk in o m g it smells ammmmaaaaazing. I got to try the prosciutto and mushroom empanadas! I really enjoyed the mushroom, it was filled to the brim. Prosciutto was good as well but it was a little salty for me. Mushroom empanada was def good. The outside is perfectly baked light and slightly crispy which is yummy. Very good filling and crust. I like the green sauce / olive oil they give on the side for a sauce. The quinoa salad is yummy mixed with tangerines, cucumbers, chic peas... great tasting sauce. We originally stopped in to grab a couple of empanadas for a snack, but ended up going right back for a few more and called it dinner! These empanadas are legit! But don't overlook the chimichurri sauce! Next level. We tried beef, prosciutto, samosa, sweet potato, chicken pot pie and spinach and mushroom and really enjoyed them all. I was disappointed they were out of the banana and Dulce de leche kind but settled for the guava. Blew my mind! The guava sweet empanada was worth the stop all on its own. I tried this place for the first time yesterday. I gotta say it was really good but not as amazing as I thought it would be. They were just really good. I got the beef, the chicken pot pie and the banana + dulce de leche one. My favorite out of the three was the chicken pot pie. My girlfriends favorite was the beef. The banana one was good but I was expecting more of a chocolate flavor which I didn't get. I'm not huge on warm gushy bananas so I wasn't a fan of the texture of the banana but still good. Been there 2 days in a row, the first meal was so good. lol Tried 4 of the Vegetarian Empanadas so far, 2 per visit, and each has been really amazing. Empanadas were really good dough flakey and they came out hot. Very good and considering what it must cost for rent the price was reasonable. The soup today was Chicken Chili and was fantastic. If he has this soup you must try it. Really great friendly service. If you need to wait a little for them to come out of the oven believe me it's worth the wait. Hot out of the oven is the best. The empanadas were great and the Mexican Coke was a nice touch and it's the bigger bottle too. The only reason i gave the place 4 stars rather than 5 was the chimichurris sauce. You have about 8 fillings to choose from and they all sounded appetizing. We did the three cheese, mushroom, carne, and beef & potato. I thought the mushroom was the best of the four but was disappointed with the carne. It was a bit too dry and the meat portion seemed stingy. The three cheese was tasty, but a lot of the empanada was just air inside. Again I thought the filling portion was too little especially given the prices at $4.50 a piece. The homemade chimichurri sauce was the highlight - super delicious. The cashier was friendly and personable, though our order had a bit of a mixup at the beginning. Sergios is off the main laguna location but only a short walk up. It was a cozy little stop, affordable, not over crowded. .the food was absolutely scrumptious! I had the classic beef empanada with quinoa salad that was absolutely lite. Both were sooooo delicious full of flavor. The lunch special was a salad and one empanada for $10. I had the carne y papas--delicious and the chimichurri (I assume made in-house, tastes super fresh and green and just mindbogglingly good) kicks it up to 11. Also had the mushroom empanada! It's sooo well seasoned and somehow even better than the carne y papas (which I didn't know was possible, honestly) and probably one of the most satisfying things I've ever eaten. Honestly I just want to go back and get a bunch of them that I can go bake whenever I want (which you can actually do, they sell them frozen) They have a pretty small menu which is smart and I assume means that everything on it is fresh and good. Sergio's empanadas was exactly what I was looking for in an empanada. I got the chicken pie empanada. The taste reminded me just like a chicken pot pie but smaller. It had a lot filling inside and a good crispy crust. My mom got the chicken mushroom empanada that had good flavor with also mozzarella cheese. My friend got the empanada with ham n cheese. Their chimmichuri sauce is to die for. It was my first time trying it and I'm like what is this sauce? Give me more. Then after we finished we wanted to try more. So we got a sweet empanada. We got the guava and cheese. Some people are skeptical of the taste of guava but it was excellent warm. It made non guava lovers want to try and they loved it! I also got a Thai tea to try and it was great! My friend got their lemonade and she asked if it was Minute Maid and they said no it's hand squeezed which was even better. Nice, little, boutique spot in Laguna to get a quick bite to eat. Sergio's offers some unique empanadas that you wont easily find anywhere else. This place is ideal for a quick snack after day drinking in the Laguna beach area or hanging out at the beach. Also parking is super easy with a customer only lot behind the building (towards the beach). Empanadas will run ~$3.5 each, but you only really need 2 unless you are really hungry. Despite the high price tag, these empanadas are the lightest, flakiest pastries I've had in a long time. They have some specialty flavors like Hawaiian, mushroom, prosciutto, and sweet potato. We thought that the Hawaiian and carne were the best. Pass on the 3 cheese unless you are in dire need of cheesy pastries. Be sure to ask for the spicy and chimmichuri sauces and be liberal on applying them to the empanadas. They also have beers/wines too. So have a beer, grab an empanada and then go check out the beach literally right behind the place and enjoy yourself. read more

I ordered the prosciutto and chicken and mushroom empanadas. The prosciutto was too salty for my taste so I wouldn't get that again. The chicken and mushroom is reportedly their most popular and I can see why. That is definitely the one I would recommend. My boyfriend got the two with beef and they didn't compare to the chicken and mushroom. Overall the empanadas were made well and they seemed fresh. TO DIE FOR! This is an OC spot that makes all their offering locally and responsibly. I absolutely love their chicken empanada as well as their in-house made Chimmichurri! Exactly what I would expect from baked empanadas. Happy to not have to eat the grease and calories from the deep fryer! Baking is the way to go! Price is fair and I can not believe that people are complaining. The owner chatted with me a bit, since he is always there baby sitting this beauty.
