I've been going here for 4 years and never had any problems, but today I received THE WORST haircut. I asked for a simple bald taper. But before I could even say anything I end up getting all my hair cut off. patchy and uneven so much it looks like a bad military cut. I respectfully payed, however when I went to pay the guy tried to keep my change as tip. I told him there was no way he was getting tipped and was lucky that I even decided to pay. Not what it used to be and not exactly a barber shop, but I still got a decent (not wow, but ok) haircut. Why I say it's not a barber shop: it had three vietnamese (I think) ladies working in it. No guys cutting any hair at all -- barbershops usually only have that one girl working. My old barbershop in Phoenix had two brothers that always fought over whom was better and a little cousin cutting hair. They had that one girl and that's it. They also had on some Kathie Lee morning show. No movies, no sports, no manly things. Thus, not a barbershop. The only thing that made this place a barbershop was the straight razor line up (which didn't go so well for me!). Now to the haircut. It wasn't exactly what I asked for. A lot shorter than I told her. My line on the back wasn't straight and one of my sideburns was longer than the other -- had to fix these myself when I got home. Also, and this is my biggest complaint because it didn't feel so good. The lady "lining me up" didn't bother to use any shaving cream -- the other girls did -- so image thick, dry hair and a straight razor. I'm still not sure why she did it this way while the others used the shaving cream. I'm a younger guy and would usually like a place that had women in it but a barbershop should feel like a barbershop and not a salon. Other things to note: - The wait is kind of long (even if the lady told me there was only one person ahead of me and the others were waiting.. she didn't mention waiting for the other ladies). - They talk to each other a lot, pretty much the entire time. One of my best friends recommended me to this small barbershop in Milpitas. At first I was bit skeptical trying a new barbershop (I had already found a good barber in Fremont) but I was willing to try anyway. At first I was skeptical to choose which barber would be my go to barber but, quite frankly, all of the barbers are quite skilled. In every single visit, another barber would cut my hair but each have given me advice on how to style my hair and will always tell me why their cut style looks better for what kind of hair I have (and they're never wrong). I used to get my haircuts at Lena's Hair Design in San Jose since I lived in that area but now that I moved to Milpitas I needed a new place that can match up to my old... and WOW! This place rocks! I walked in and it does have an old school barber shop feel to it. I used to have a bias towards women cutting my hair since I've had bad experiences with that but Mai changed that! =D I came in and she greeted me and offered to give me a haircut and I told her how I wanted it and she delivered with flying colors. She took her time to carefully fade me up and she did something I never experienced before. Apparently they have a vacuum type of machine that they use to suck the hair off of your head once they are done cutting! What I like is how she used warm shaving cream to finish the job cleaning my cut up with a razor. My old place cost 7 + 3 tip for a cut, n razor clean up. This place cost 16+ 4 tip for a cut, razor clean up also. It was the details that made the extra money worth it for here. She used that vacuum to clean my head off(didn't even have to shower after the cut, went straight to the gym, haha). She used real shaving cream to shave me. I have been going to Serra Barber Shop for about six months now after being turned on to it by one of my friends. This is probably one of the better barber shops I have been to (and being a former Marine where "high and tights" are expected, I've been to a lot!). Pluses would be they have good barbers there who remember your name and the type of hairstyle you like, the staff are friendly and there is a large television to watch sports. I would recommend Kelly or Mai. Minuses would be $16.00 dollars is not the cheapest I have paid for a haircut (but you get what you pay for), they get very busy at times and there is not a lot of seating while waiting. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone that wants an average to above average haircut. I was hesitant on reviewing this place because good reviews mean longer lines for me but I see the bigger picture! read more

After this weekend, I now have the privilege to say I've received an amazing haircut from three of the many barbers at the shop. Mai is an awesome barber. To start, she has a lot of energy and seems to be the most popular barber at the shop. I think only twice was I able to get a haircut from her without having to wait for more than an hour. If you are the talkative type (not like me), then you'll certainly be able to whip up an enjoyable conversation with Mai. Nonetheless, the quality of her work are tried and true, and they can be seen from her results. Josie is another amazing barber at the shop. I was lucky to have tried getting my hair cut from her because the wait for Mai ended up being more than 2 hours and Josie, fortunately, was free. Josie does not have a personality as loud as Mai's, but her work is definitely on par with Mai's, both of which being extremely top-notch. I always ask for a combover with a hardline, and I've yet to experience another barber, outside of this shop, apply as clean of a part as she does. Victor is the third and final barber that I've had the pleasure of getting my hair cut from. My most recent cut from Serra's was by Victor, and I am definitely lucky to have had this opportunity. This past Saturday, I walked into the shop, and both Mai and Josie seemed to have had multiple clients already lined up for them. I had made prior plans and needed to be in the city by 4pm. I couldn't afford to wait. I saw Victor finish up with a client, and I walked up and asked if he could cut my hair. He seemed hesitant at first, but he ultimately accommodated to my request (big, big thank you). Throughout the process, Victor was very meticulous and applied great care (haircut was ~1 hour). Like Mai and Josie, the quality of his work speaks for itself as many glances were turned my way later that night at the bars. Before this weekend, I used to walk in and put "Josie/Mai" for the barbers whom I'd request. Moving forward, I may have to put down "Josie/Mai/Victor" as all three are great barbers who don't hesitate to dedicate the time and efforts to their profession. I've driven to countless local barbers (I live by Union City) to try and find one that I'm happy with their work. I've since given up, and I now succumb myself to the 20-30 minute drive to Serra's Barber Shop to get my hair cut. This is my back up spot for a haircut because: It's a very inconsistent spot for a cut. One day, they do it really well, and the next time, flat out horrible. I've had 3 bad haircuts in a row. Over the course of the last 3 years, I have sat in all (5) barber chairs and I have to say I have confidence in all the barbers. I generally ask for a mid-fade cut (showing them a photo for visual aid) and ask to trim the top with scissors. Above all, I trust them with their skin-tight shaves with blades! This place and their employees deserve a 0 star. I walked in with my son and the two female barbers (Josey and Amy) were sitting in their chairs. They didn't look at us but continued to look at their phones, completely ignoring us. We asked for a haircut and Josey said she was not available but to ask the other female (Amy) for a haircut. Amy told us she was unavailable and walked away telling us to come back tomorrow. This was 2 hours before closing time!! We totally got rejected- not sure why?? They told us they were closing BUT there was NO customers in the shop? I agree with the other negative YELP reviews- this is a horrible place. We should have never came here. I've been going here for the past few months for my hair cuts. I used to go to a cheap vietnamese place before, but the haircuts were getting more and more inconsistent (u get what u pay for). I was recommended by a friend and gave it a shot. The people here are vietnamese but the it's a barber shop not salon. Almost everyone here can cut except for the old guy with glasses on stationed on the left side. I got a hair cut from Don (left station wed-sat), and he did an amazing job. He definitely took his time and sparked a funny conversation. At the end, they will use a razor to shave he little hairs and do touch ups like a real barber shop should. Hair cuts here are $16. Been a customer here since 2007 when I first moved to the area. At $16 a cut (cash only), you get what you pay for. Each barber takes their time on you (~30-45 minutes/cut), and the wait can be long on the weekends (the line can stretch out the door!). Here's the procedure for most customers: 1) A "Hey how's it going?" and "How would you like your hair?" 2) Clippers, scissors, and thinner. 3) If something's less than perfect, they'll repeat step 2 to make it perfect. 4) Vacuum over your head to suck up loose hair (my favorite part). 5) Warm lather and open razor shave from the back of your neck to your sides. My husband and son have been going here for years. My son is now 10 - he's been going to Serra Barber since he was a year old. After today's haircut, they are never coming back! The place used to be great when Steve and Lina were still there but it has gone down hill ever since. Mai is the only decent one there but she's no Lina, for sure!! My son wanted to grow his hair out and when they walked in today, my husband specifically said 3 on top, 1 on the sides and leave the front since he wanted to grow it out. The lady repeated what my husband said, and our boy proceeded to take a seat. She clipped on the guard and went at it on his hair including the front which she was specifically told not to touch, the same instructions she repeated but obviously did not understand!!! Umm - a little too late now, wasn't it?!? Our son was clearly upset and she tried to apologize but if she didn't understand what she needed to do, she should've asked!! Totally unacceptable! Simply the best barbershop in the South Bay. Been going here for the past 2 years, and have never been disappointed. Wicked clean fade. Good people too. Fun to talk to. They don't take appointments, so it's a first come first serve. If you have a favorite barber, you might end waiting for a good while. They close at 6pm on Weekdays so i'm always trying to sneak in a cut right after work. They would stay back a bit if you don't make an ass of yourself. Typical $16 per cut plus tip. Average pricing, but damn good service. I recommend asking for Don. He takes a little longer than the others, but that's because of the detail works. My fades always come out better. The loose hair vacuum was a nice touch, I kept thinking it was a rainbow or a Kirby. The shaving cream and blade for the edges mazes out the points for me. I was planning on getting my haircut at a local Vietnamese salon where I usually go, but when I got there I learned that they are close on Tuesday. So I went back home and went on yelp to see where's a good place to get a haircut at in Milpitas and this place came up. I read the reviews and it doesn't seem that bad so I decided to give this place a try. When I first walked into the place I got a feeling that this place is going to be legit judging by it's set up. The wait can be a little long but it is definitely worth it (atleast it was for me). However they got a very nice flat panel TV for the customers to watch while they're waiting to make the wait a little more enjoyable. After a short while wait, I finally got to get my fade. I'm not sure what's the name of my barber but it wasn't Steve. The guy who cut my hair was pretty good, he really took his time to made sure that everything was good. He finished it with a super clean line up for my back and the sideburns and cleaned up my hair with that little hair vacuum. The hair cut turned out to be $16 and I tipped him $2 which he's well deserved. I am very satisfied with this place and happy that I found a place where I can return to for a clean haircut. This place is shit. I tried to go here twice. The first time I call before they tell me they close @ 6...I get there a few min later at 5:30p I walk in and they tell me they won't take anyone else. The barbers here are real nice people. They take their time and make sure that you get what you pay for. However, its up to you to communicate to them exactly what you want, their not, after all, mind readers. Pros: Comfy barber chairs barbers take their time to assure you get the hair cut you want your head gets vacuumed so no lose hair when you leave. they finish you off with a nice clean razor blade. Nice big screen tvs to watch the news, sports, etc. just ask they'll change the channel for you. Cons; if theyre busy waiting time can range from 30mins to 1hour. But if you got the time its worth the wait. Tips: Most barbers income come from tips. Tip them well and they'll treat you well. Simply let them know how you want your sides and your top and they'll take it from there. If theres a specific hair cut you want it'll be best to bring in a picture of a similar hair style for them to use as a guide. Larry and Don are my usual barbers I go to these guys as much as I can. They really go above and beyond. But i dont mind trying out the other barbers if wait is long and/or theyre not available. read more

This place is located just a little past the Walgreens right behind it. They have plenty of barbers and usually not too busy. I like 2 of 3 barbers that I've here so far. Price is $20 (twenty. Tip included). That's about average price. This is my go to barbers when I can't go to my main barber. Their tapers, fades and comb overs are pretty on point. This place is very old looking. Anyways, any of the barbers here can cut, line or fade u good! Lena, Mai, Kelly, Dong are all great! They were all trained by the man himself "Steve"! And Steve turns his protege into pros! I love this place. Whether it's for a date, weekly haircut, or even for special occasions, this is the place to go to. If you don't believe me, just try it out. You'll be surprised with the work they do. I usually ask for mai, and let me tell you, she always has a wait. But don't worry, because all the other barbers in there are the same. This place used to be better - probably would have given them 4 stars when I started going here a few years ago. The old owner left a while back and I have heard that it was some bad breakup and he left to cut somewhere else or open up a new spot or something. There is usually 4 dudes waiting for 1 girl.. it's pretty pathetic because they all try to flirt with her cause they think she's cute. She does give a decent cut though so I can see why they choose her... but most of these dudes look like they just got a fuckin haircut the day before. Do you really need to get lined up?... no one cares about your hair that much but you! Also, I have seen on TWO occasions, the girl sneeze in her fuckin hand, then IMMEDIATELY after she puts gel on her hand and gels the persons hair without washing her hands! I have seen it TWWIIICCE. I am far from a germ freak but that's just fuckin gross. She also texts on her phone, and talks on her phone, in the middle of a haircut. Can't it frikkin wait until after your done cutting a customers hair?!? What else annoys me is that they always gossip here. Last time I was there I heard them talking shit about an old barber there and that he goes to strip clubs, and whore houses. That's great and all but it is better kept between coworkers and not out there for every customer to hear. I still go here though because it is convenient (I live down the street) and I don't I care that much about a haircut. Ive been going here for the last two months!!! Love this place. All four of the barbers are great here. But i go to my usual. They do just about anything here! Price is a little high, and wait is a little long (but only means they get alot of customers) but way worth it. The best barber shop in milpitas. There is an imitator down the street that just open, but i was there last month and hommies clippers were dull as hell, and he didnt seem professional at all. When you first walk in, they kindly greet you for a warm welcome. Theres a tv so while ur waiting or getting ur hair cut, they put on a movie, or sometimes just tv. I cant say anything bad about this place which is why i give it 5 stars. I will be a regular here from now on, and i wont try any other shop! Well recommended for everyone! This place just switched to new owners, I will no longer be coming here as my main barber is no longer here. I have been coming here for 4 years since my family moved to Milpitas and I always get a great haircut. The price is reasonable ($16) for men's haircut and this place especially good at cutting the hair very short and blending it on top. They are not afraid to cut it short and they always get it right. One of the reasons this is a great barber shop is that I always get a neck shave and that really makes the cut feel complete and clean. most barbers shops don't do neck shaves after the cut anymore, and I love that they do this included in the price of the haircut. Be prepared to pay with cash only and wait in line to get the haircut, and to listen to the Vietnamese employees gossip about who knows what they talk about while cutting hair, but they are nice people and always friendly to their customers. read more

When I used to come here about 3 years ago I didn't understand what respect was in the barbershop culture. I say this because I would get cut with multiple barbers within this shop based on next availability. But when you frequent to a barbershop I've learned that being loyal to a specific barber you feel comfortable with is key. All the barbers there are very professional and cut well. 3 years up until now I've finally decided to stick with one barber and that's Josie! She's they sweet lady in the corner of the shop. We go way back, I mean back to a point where we've had a few disagreements and I may have taken things a little too personal but the past is the past and now I find myself absolutely enjoying how she cuts my hair. To any new potential customer, if you go here please tip generously or at least tip. It means a lot to them when you do because they take their time, skill, profession, and effort to make you look goo . Seriously, if you love yourself you gotta take care of the ones making you look your best those biweekly visits you make by saving a little extra just for the barbers. Also with the Serra barber shop you can expect a lively conversation every visit, whether it be with Mai's outgoing personality or the barber shops topic of the day. It's never a dull moment there and I recommenced coming here if you have a strong personality and aren't easily offended I say this cause people may have a lot to say about this place but honestly if you treat people well with respect and humility I don't see you having a bad experience here even when there may be offense.
