I had been to Serranos way back when I first came to Texas. The only thing I remember about it was, it was expensive. This was prior to my Yelp days so thought I would try them again. Online I found they had a lower priced lunch menu. Headed over for lunch today. There is no easy way to get into their parking lot unless you come in from 183 up Lakeline. So I had to drive out of the way to get in. Walked to the front door and it was locked at 11:15. Walked to side of building thinking I have wrong door. Nope. Back to first set of doors and now they're open. Hostesses seat me immediately in a booth. Waiter is there within ten seconds. All I wanted was water. Decided on choose your own lunch. Chicken enchilada with verde sauce, charro beans, and salad with cilantro lime dressing. Two minutes and the salad is here, another minute and chips and salsa, three more minutes and hot dish with entrée arrives. Salad was a nice mix of greens, cheery tomatoes and carrots but unfortunately was topped with cheese. Poured the dressing over and it needs seasoning. Once salt and pepper added, it is good. Charro beans were okay. Eatable but not amazing. The enchilada was only 6 inches long, skimpy. It tasted like heat. That was all, just hot burning in my mouth. I place an online order. The order taker became frustrated over an entree versus a plate. I mean he works there. He kept asking me "What Else" as I placed my order. He kept cutting me off when I was speaking. He would not repeat the order back to me by saying I heard what you said. When the order was ready it was incorrect. The manager stated that it was probably my fault. And I thought he was a cool manager until today. I told him what happened and then he defended his guy by saying that he was overwhelmed and I needed to be more patient. I really dislike it when people try to play the victim. They remade the incorrect portion of the order while the rest of the order sat there and got cold. They showed little to no remorse for a mistake that they made. It did not have to happen if the phone guy showed any type of professionalism. I thought this would be a place to start eating again after the pandemic, but the service remains a major issue. read more

I remember coming to Serrano's as a kid and it was always so good. The last time I ate here I was so looking forward to a walk down memory lane and was disappointed. The chile relleno was so oily it was nearly inedible. I ate a few bites and couldn't stomach the rest. So greasy and soggy. No shape or flavor to it other than the oil it was fried in. I had a bite of enchilada and it was okay, nothing spectacular. The chips and salsa were disappointing as well. All of the servers were teenagers who weren't the most attentive or friendly. This weekend we ordered a large queso and large Guacamole, thats all. Arriving I got the receipt and when I got home saw it was 29.00 !! I called and asked if maybe they charged me incorrectly and the manager very "matter of fact" replied "no, that's correct". I was like OMG, for chips and queso and guacamole. We stopped into Serranos for dinner at about 6pm on a Thursday evening, and they were about to begin their dinner rush. Food: Chile con queso came out with two side plates under the plate holding the con queso, and both plates were wet and one had a hair on it. When we noted it to the waiter, he apologized, but didn't bring us new plates. The Chile Relleno with chicken had shredded chicken stuffed inside the pepper. Batter was so-so, and I opted for the creamy tomatillo sauce, served with Spanish rice and refried beans. The beef in the fajitas was overcooked. The only plus point was the homemade flour tortillas served alongside it. Service: Half-hearted. We had to continually ask for refills for the drinks. No refills were offered for the chips. Towards the end of our meal, my plate was cleared but my husband was still eating, and our server brought out the check with the credit card machine. Cost: Beef fajitas were $20! Our meal ran us $43.59 before tax. Overall: Our first impression was with the short and curly on a plate, and the rest of the experience followed suit. Our waiter didn't even attempt to offer us clean new plates, or even a discount for the hair, yet was proactive enough to bring us the check without us asking for it. Happy Hour Review So me and my +1 have popped in here a few times for their HH. It seems every time that we are heading home my car is drawn into Serranos. You know you are a regular when the bartender says "Hey back again!". Cripes I need a new hobby. Any who, they have a great deal on beers and well drinks and I believe HH starts @3 and goes till 7PM. Daniel usually tends the bar and he is a personable bloke who makes sure your drinks are always full and you never want for chips or salsa. Serranos is my favorite chain Mexican Restaurant. No they not as good as mom and pop. But they have consistent taste and quality so whatever dish you like it will be consistent. I like there cheese enchiladas with Chile con carne and there Tacos are great. I personally do not like there authentic Mexican fajitas but try them out decide for yourself. SO if the owners care or wonder why people are not coming back here are a few reasons: The inside looks better than it did before, but it pretty much ends there. Went in for lunch and was approached by a man (manager?) who said 2 for lunch? and that's it. No greeting, no welcome to Serrano's, no nothing. He just grabbed a couple of menus and off he went as we followed. The place has the hardest chairs I have ever felt. The music is HORRIBLE. It sounds like you are on a Mexican acid torture trip. I've heard a lot of very beautiful Mexican music in my lifetime, but you will not get it here. It's loud and the singers are screaming at you, not singing. So if you are trying to have a nice meal forget it, your nerves are going to be shot. The food has big enough portions, but the taste is mediocre compared to other places in the area. Flour tortillas were tough and chewy like they had been warmed in a microwave. Service is spotty at best. Got the Shrimp tejanos to start- yummy but $14.50 for only 4. Onto the star which was Pollo Loco. Grilled chicken thighs but sliced thin, almost like breast cutlets. Juicy, smoky and delicious. Served with pico which was very fresh and spicy, charro beans, rice and mixed tortillas. The corn tortillas were homemade, thicker than normal and super flavorful. Perfect to make little tacos with. We have only gotten delivery from this restaurant. The delivery always takes a while (through Ubereats), but the food has always arrived warm and okay. It's not as long as some other restaurants' wait times, it normally takes 40-50minutes and we live within 5 miles of this location. There are some vegetarian / vegan options, but you really have to double check. If you have a lot of food allergies or restrictions, make sure you check the order when it arrives. And be aware, it's likely to have had contact with everything / cross contamination. That being said, my husband loves the food. We have ordered a lot of different things from the menu, and they've all been quite good. It tastes like they make most of it from scratch. I like that they give us the chips & salsa as if we were there for a sit-down experience. The price is okay. It seems good to me for the amount of food & quality. I think the servings were pretty good. It isn't the cheapest, but that is fine. I like the food. I feel like they could work on labeling things already on their menu as veggie / vegan & how many calories it is. A lot of their food already on the menu is possible to make vegetarian (vegan if without cheese). It's just more effort to go through what you can eat if you have allergies / specific diet restrictions. Who knows, maybe it is just their online menu that is wonky with labels. Perhaps they can also add more vegetarian options in the future, and make the delivery process go faster. They could make the takeout / delivery packaging more eco friendly as well. Do yourself a favor: eat somewhere else! The incompent host gave our Open Table reservation to someone else. He was very confused about their reservation system. Even though the restaurant was 2/3 empty, he tried to seat us by the bathrooms in a tight corner. When we (party of 2) asked for a decent table he told us we'd have to wait until people arriving were seated. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Serranos with its outdoor seating, clean tables and friendly staff is almost always a go to location for the family. It is not too expensive, and the food is always fantastic. Even when they are slightly busy, or even a lot busy, the bar area is filled with chairs and it is quite easy for a family of four to chow down without creating a ruckus or starting the food fight. The staff even does a great job fending off the occasional homeless person who wanders in looking for, well, whatever they look for. Go ahead and go you'll be glad you did. read more

My son and I went to Serrano's on Lakeline and Pecan Park for our usual Sunday breakfast. The couple sitting behind us kept bumping and jumping in their booth which backed up to ours. After several of the incidents I finally said something to them and both of them got up and came to our booth and starting verbally abusing me and yelled to the entire restaurant that I was a "Karen" and a @itch. Then just before I paid my bill and was getting ready to leave the manager went to their table, comped their meal and apologized to them. We love Serranos in general and recently visited the location by Lakeline Mall. Our experience was all-around enjoyable and the food was absolutely delicious! Ana was our waitress and was fantastic! She had a calm, yet friendly demeaner and was really good about stopping by to check on us regularly. The manager stopped by as well to see if we needed anything. In my opinion, this is always a good sign about how well a restaurant is managed. We made sure to mention to him how wonderful Ana was. The food was so good! I got the shrimp enchiladas and my husband got the chicken fajitas. Our food was hot, which is always a good thing, of course. We stopped in for a quick lunch while we were running errands today. There is a lot to choose from on the menu. We decided to share fajitas. Our server, Israel, went out of his way to accommodate our dietary restrictions. My boyfriend is a pescatarian, and I have a shellfish allergy. We were able to get vegetable fajitas with our choice of protein served on the side. Everything was great, especially the corn tortillas. Went to this place on May 5, to celebrate Cinco De Mayo, (along with everyone else in the area) the place was packed with a 1.5 hour wait. My party and I went to the bar to grab some drinks while we waited for a table. While the bar was very busy, other people seemed to get waited on around us. When my friend asked to speak to the manager, a very curt man said "I am the manager, what is the problem". My friend proceeded to explain that she is a diabetic and had been standing there trying to get a glass of water for 20 mins while they waited on everyone else around her. He stated they were busy, and my friend stated that she understood that, but was still upset that she had been standing there for 20 mins to put in a request for water. By that time, 2 bar seats had opened up and 2 our party of 5 sat down. The "manager" proceeded to ask what we wanted to order. He was given the order along with the request for the glass of water. He then returned with a HALF full glass of water (who knows if it was new or left by someone) and threw it at her and told the rest of us that we could not order any drinks. Shocked, we sat there, as we had never been treated this way. Another bar tender then stopped by to ask if we had been helped, when we proceded to say yes but didn't recieve or order, then repeated our order, the "manager" came over and told that bar tender not to serve us. We had just arrived at the resturant and it wasn't like we had already consumed "too much", it was that the "manager" didn't like that we voiced a complaint about the service. Came in for a late lunch on Saturday. I like that their happy hour runs every day. I received $2 off of my guacamole which was nice. The guacamole was pretty good. I would have preferred the onions to be chopped a bit more. I had cheese enchiladas with suza sauce. It was particularly yummy. Staff was pretty attentive especially given that they had a party of about 20 that kept growing. All in all I enjoyed my lunch. I've given four stars rathe than five for the little misses. read more
