This place was a total disappointment. I had the Torta and it was awful. No flavor, giant soggy bread that I couldn't even eat. The kids burrito was better. My husband had the individual tacos and the Duck was good the rest didn't live up to the hype. The waitress gave us very disappointing service. Never check in with us after someone else delivered our food and didn't even question my untouched meal. Will definitely not return or recommend. This is definitely a yuppie taco joint. I do go here even though I am a Mexican food snob, mainly because of the cheap happy hour from 10 to midnight. I would never come here again and pay full price for the tacos since they are so many cheaper and more authentic taco spots in Kansas City. The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way was they claim that they serve 'street food' style from the Mission district in San Francisco, except that anyone who has spent time in the mission knows that there is no street food there, zero. There are plenty of Mexican joints to be sure but none serve this style of Mexican cuisine. Anyone in the know will tell you that Mission style salsa is a blend of Verde and guac, other than that when I think of mission style Mexican food it is just maybe grilled scallions. Maybe that's being nitpicky, maybe I just don't like paying $3.50 for a taco! My biggest complaint was that they barely cook their tortillas, scandalous! They were almost raw and not super fresh at that. They definitely had a few interesting fusion style tacos, like shrimp and fish tacos with mango salsa, and the fried chicken taco was also worth checking out. One big downside is that they do not offer salsa other than their bottled thin type salsas, which were OK but I was still wanting something fresh. Bottom line is that this is a gringo style taqueria In a city with tons of incredible authentic Mexican food, though definitely a good and reasonable option if you're looking for a deal after 10 PM. $1.50 for a pretty nice fish taco is a-ok in my book. read more

The wait staff seem to be overwhelmed and they may need to hire a few more servers. However, the food is delicious and the margs are fresh !!!! The fist time we went we had tacos. Shrimp/Fish and Portabello and the Port was the best of all. The second time we went I ordered the South Beach Burrito was really delicious and comes with a yummy glob of guac on top. I had margs both times and they were soo good. Don't have more then 2 as they are pretty potent. Its kind of loud but play fun music and it was cold the times we went so i suggest an extra sweater. Will go back again as the food was soo good. Hopefully they get a few more servers and possibly a new hostess as friendly she was not. If they fail me next time it may be my last. read more

Came here with a few friends during dinner time. I tried the portobello and carne asada tacos. We also got salsa for the table. All food was very good. Decided to venture out to this place for taco Tuesday (no Tuesday specific specials FYI) to give this new establishment a try... Wow! For only being open 2 days they handled a large group of 10 well. I was there for the tacos and they did not disappoint. I had the BBQ duck, habanero chicken, and spicy chorizo tacos. All three had excellent flavor and the toppings were fresh! The only small downside is the chorizo seemed a little on the cool side. Our group also split some appetizers. The street corn is fantastic as are the two salsas you get with the chips and salsa order. The major downside would be the tacos being served family style. This is not a good concept for large groups as everything is mixed up and you're passing tacos all over the place. In addition they came out in waves that were somewhat delayed. If they are going to serve family style, keep all the same types together. Otherwise it would be better to keep the orders separate. Lastly the drinks were great. They make a pretty mean margarita! I have eaten at Mission Taco twice. I have ordered the carne aside tacos twice. Both times they have been pretty average. They could learn a thing or two about seasonings from any one of the local carnercerias in our great city. With that being said the grilled fish taco was pretty good. I like that it wasn't overloaded with a lot of wet ingredients that have destroyed fish tacos at other establishments. The Habanero Chicken Tacos were phenomenal! The chicken was the perfect texture and the habenanero was the perfect amount of heat. I will just order these the next time I visit. The guacamole was pretty good, I prefer it a little chunkier with lime but that could just be me. I'm a fan because of the Chicken Hab. tacos, the fun atmosphere and it is close to work. Went here the other night for the first time. Andy was our server and he was awesome and helpful in recommending what's good on the menu. My boyfriend and I got a Mai Tai and a Painkiller! Drinks were awesome and Andy personalized my boyfriends drink by asking his favorite color, which ended up being the color of the glass his drink was in! First time here.. waited 10 minutes and still didn't get water or a waiter. So service was slow. The food was mediocre. We order street tacos and a burrito and a few sides, fries, street corn, and Gauc. The food was bland and the fries was super oily. To be fair, we went on a pretty busy night. We waited a long time for a table - so long in fact we went and did other things which was recommended by staff. This wasn't a big deal at all - we knew it was going to be crazy. We ended up getting a table when we expected, and our party of six proceeded to have drinks and dinner. We had an ok time, but, *just* ok. High's: the margaritas were extremely well done. Folks at our table had both blended and rocks, and they were both superb - delicious. Would have loved more than one (see Low's). Also, the fries were out-of-this-world. Seriously, the fries alone are worth another visit (read: chance). Tacos were good, the flatbread sandwich, also good. Food and drinks, in and of itself, definitely a solid "good" and worth a try. Low's: I get what they're doing here, I understand the vibe they're going for, but still the price point is about 20% too high in my view. I've read other reviews - the tacos are way too small for what they charge. Service was a little rough. Saw our server at the beginning, and the end (i.e., when we asked for the check). Never got asked if we wanted another round, different folks ran the food, etc. It wasn't enough of a drag to ask for the manager or whatever, but, we left feeling pretty jilted and ignored. Also, our table had vegetarians and meat eaters (who ordered tacos accordingly) and the tacos (for four different people) came out all mixed together on the steel corrugated trays and we had to ask what's what. The person running the food wasn't sure, we all figured it out eventually, but it was a drag and really detracted from the experience for me. When asked about it the guy running the food said "we serve family style, so that's what we do here." But not really - like, everyone else that ordered other stuff (meaning not tacos) didn't get served "family style" but whatever. All in all, they're still on my list -- see comment re: the fries above -- but I left feeling kinda bummed, and given the Gwop I dropped that night for the table, I shouldn't have left bummed. The tacos were great. However, my least fav was the carne asada the meat was bland. The empanadas were good but too many mushrooms and in need of a variety when offering those as an appetizer. The chips and salsa honestly shouldn't cost. The corn fritters were great. The amount of arugula they use is too much. It's almost like they use it as a filler and it's too much. The drinks were good but over priced they cost almost a half a bottle of premium liquor and they use too much ice. If it's going to cost that much for a drink you could at least have them in a bigger glass and much more of it. $10-11 for a margarita needs to be worth the cost. Mission Taco is your typical Street Taco restaurant. The appetizers are standard with your queso and your salsas. All reasonably priced. The burritos are very filling and full of flavor. The tacos themselves are just fine. They will satisfy your craving for tacos but they don't really have enough flavor to make me crave them like I do other Taco places around town. The service was what brought them down a bit. We ordered chips and queso as a starter and we got out food before it. That was a disappointment. However, the staff was very nice and accommodating. I had the street corn, which was okay, shrimp tacos which crowded out the taste of the shrimp, and BBQ duck taco which was meh.... Stop trying to fancy-up a taco. I don't know how you screw up a taco, then charge three times what it's worth, but if you want to feel trendy, stop by this joint. I won't be back.
