Amazing chicken medallions in mustard sauce with mashed potatoes and eggplant
    Karl V.

Classic, upscale white table cloth Upper East Side Italian. We stumbled in with no reservation on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised by the food. We had: 1. Polenta with wild mushrooms - good 2. Lobster salad - great 3. Chicken with mustard sauce - very good 4. Tagliatelle with swordfish - ok 5. Asparagus soup - good 6. Tiramisu - very good. Definitely a cozy, comfortable place that would be a good choice if you like high quality Italian.

    Gnocchi

Service was very nice and the restaurant was packed- too small but they worked it efficiently! And, the food was amazing! Our mozzarella appetizer was good (other than the mushy tomatoes!) bc the peppers and fresh mozzarella. Our entrees- gnocchi and the rosemary, chicken dish were fantastic!!! Cappuccinos at the end of the night were a perfect end with the Italian cookies. We'd go back because the food was so good but we hope they move to a bigger spot soon. That would be a home run!

Delicious food and nice atmosphere. We chose to sit outside on a lovely Sunday night. We split a few apps and each ordered our own entree. Highly recommend the mozzarella app and the gnocchi entree but everything was yum so you can't really go wrong. The only complaint we have is that it felt a little rushed. The staff kept pushing us to order even though we wanted to take our time.

    a plate of steamed mussels

I was going to the restaurant is next them but it was close so we decided to check something else and we went to sette mezzo. Restaurant is small but very clean and has very positive vibes. We got a little bit confused about the wine but we didn't really wanna drink so we didn't ask more details about that . Service was fast polite. We had a misunderstanding with the mushrooms and mussels. We ask for mushrooms but the server said mussels and at that point we didn't really understand he was talking about mussels but it's fine we literally lick that plate was delicious. All the plates we got was delicious, mouth watering for real . Definitely recommend that restaurant and go back again

Amazing restaurant with a beautiful (safe and distanced) outside seating area, outstanding food and impeccable service. Ambiance. I was meeting a friend I have not seen in over a year, and being one of our first dining experiences in "forever," I scouted restaurants in advance that had safe, distanced, pretty outside dining areas. Their outside dining set up is beautiful, with draperies between tables for distancing which are not only effective for safe dining (even by my friends' standards who is a Nurse Practitioner), but are also very pretty. I love this creative distancing. Both being enthusiastic yet cautious and apprehensive about dining out, my friend also scoped out the restaurant before meeting, and asked if she could bring her pup. (Well, we all need to do what we need to feel comfortable as we venture out of our post pandemic bubbles). Outside the enclosed seating area are sidewalk tables, and the one where we were seated for the benefit of the pup was across from a bodega with its flower selection, which my friend said reminded her of being at a cafe in France. Food. All of the food was outstanding. - Portobello mushroom (special) appetizer. I had a couple bites of this appetizer my friend ordered, and it was excellent. - Beef carpaccio. One of my favorite appetizers, and it was fantastic. - Fish of the day special. The trout was grilled perfectly and beautifully presented, with zucchini and squash on the side. Both my friend and I ordered this, and it was divine. - Tiramisu. Delicious. Impeccable Service. The attentiveness of the host and servers, especially given our enthusiastic yet apprehensive slightly nervous first time out of our bubbles in forever, could not have been better. I like what I like and am particular, but am not typically "that" high maintenance customer causing servers to eye roll. However, on this first outing, I admittedly started to feel a little like "that customer", but the servers were wonderful, accommodating, and took our requests in stride. It played out like this: - I arrived before my friend and gave my name, mentioning my friend would be bringing her pup. The host knew this since my friend had stopped by earlier; and they had a table for two on the sidewalk prepared for us. - Realizing there was a meter that could obstruct my picture taking, I asked if there was another sidewalk table we could have instead. As the host happily accommodated and started clearing another table, I realized the table he was clearing was only (the required) 6 feet from other patrons, while I prefer 12 - ish plus feet away from people to feel comfortable at this point, so I approached him and said thank you, but we will keep the original table. - The server arrived to take my drink order; I wanted a dirty martini, but having a limited bar menu he said they do not have martini glasses, which was fine, but when I asked about the giant olives I like, he said they did not have them, so I paused and said I would think about it. He returned and I decided I would have the martini; when he asked if I wanted it on the rocks or chilled, I wasn't sure. All these decisions I was not accustomed to making in so long! So he, without missing a beat, brought me a chilled martini with ice on the side. Perfect. - I was trying to settle comfortably but had a bag from my shoe shopping trip on my lap, and with no where to put it. (What did we do with bags and shopping bags before the pandemic... I can't even recall.). So I asked the server if I could please have an extra chair, and without hesitation, he said "Sure... Is this for the dog?" Laughing, I told him the dog would not require a chair; it was for my bags. Despite all the newness and indecisiveness, the servers treated us and our requests with respect. They later moved us to a table inside the enclosed area when my friend (who decided the pup would stay home) and I realized how windy it was outside. The host and servers were wonderful, patient, attentive and amazing at making us feel comfortable- and by the end of our dinner - shared wit and a great sense of humor. It was an amazing dinner and night. The impeccable service, ambiance and food made for a perfect and memorable first girls night out in over a year. Highly recommend.

An Italian friend in the neighborhood recommended this place to me. Beautiful outdoor seating, very nice and caring service. The spaghetti is so fresh and the sauce appetizing. Enjoyed the experience!

Great Italian spot in UES. I've been coming here for years since it was cash only. Love the gnocchi but decided to branch out tonight to a seafood risotto arrabiata. Unfortunately, it was not spicy but excellent anyways. Also, had veal with mushrooms (not pictures).

Baba Al Rum was also tasty, as was the Orecchiette. Rigatoni was salty, but well-flavored. I visited a popular Italian restaurant from the Union Square Hospitality group with a group of five others. The restaurant is quite large, and although it was somewhat noisy, the tables were spaced apart enough that it was easy to hear everyone. We had an early dinner at 5:45 PM, which took quite a while, but I didn't mind. To drink, I went with the Bitter Giuseppe for $19, with Cynar 45.3, Punt e Mes, lemon, and sea salt. I'm a fan of most Negronis, and this was a particularly bitter version. The bit of lemon and sea salt added a unique but enjoyable flavor at the end, though in retrospect, the salt probably wasn't super necessary. Two of us split, and eventually, a few of us ordered their signature appetizer, the $18 Cast Iron Focaccia, with tomato conserva, a mixture of crushed tomatoes, olive oil, and Calabrian chili. The bread was fresh and warm, albeit a tad oily and salty, but it paired wonderfully with the conserva. As someone who doesn't like it when bread is extra, this was delicious and worth it. Another person ordered the $18 Insalata Verde. It was very large, but fairly basic, with a vinaigrette that had a citrusy and mustardy flavor. There was also the Caramelized Onion Torta for $27, which was very large, as expected for the price point. It had a creamy and tangy flavor from the Pecorino Toscano with some sweetness from the onion. It was delicious, but very heavy, and I would recommend that around three or four people split it alongside the focaccia. Finally, there was also the $15 Pizza Bianca, which was easily the smallest of all the plates, but they still enjoyed it. My main dish was the Orecchiette for $26, with ramps, pistachio, and pecorino. Like most of their dishes, the portion size was quite large, with plenty of pasta, which was perfectly cooked. The ramps added a touch of sweetness, although I would have liked a few more nuts. Additionally, there was almost too much pecorino, which made the dish slightly salty, but it was still enjoyable. As a side, I got the $19 Grilled Asparagus with dates, vermouth, and blue cheese, which came with many pieces of lightly charred asparagus. While there was plenty of funky blue cheese, I would have preferred more dates. Two of the others got the Rigatoni Alla Gricia for $30. The portion was large, and I tried a bit while they tried mine. The noodles were again cooked perfectly, and while there was a lot of guanciale, this was easily the saltiest of all the dishes. For dessert, I chose their Baba AU Rum for $18, which was uniquely mixed with chocolate and orange. The presentation was a bit off, as it looked like a certain emoji, but the flavor made up for it. The subtle hint of rum paired with the bitter-sweet chocolate and orange. The dark chocolate-covered orange slice on top was a nice touch as well. Someone else got a tart, and one other person got the Gelati, which resulted in one of the only faults during service. She heard it was two scoops, and ordered espresso stracciatella and hazelnut, but was given two separate orders for $12 each. The gelato was good, but unlike most things, definitely not worth it for the price. I liked the appetizers much more, but I found the food good overall. Tasty dessert, and the portions make up at least a bit for the relatively higher prices.

We started with the housemade focaccia and Wagyu carpaccio--both were outstanding, with the perfect balance of crispy, flavorful, and fresh elements. My partner and I shared the pasta, hangar steak, and potatoes, which turned out to be the ideal amount for two. We finished with the famous olive oil cake, which we loved for its subtly sweet, moist and tender bite. Served with lightly whipped cream and raisins, the combination was surprisingly delicious. We were also touched by the complimentary anniversary scoop of ice cream. The interior seating is a bit snug, but the decor is beautiful--elegant yet homey. The service was good as well. Overall, we highly recommend L'Artusi for a special night out!

L'Artusi has been on my radar for a while, ever since I heard it was a hot spot and saw reviews of…read moreit being one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Being Italian American, I'm hypercritical of spots like these - but nevertheless the positive reviews were overwhelming so I wanted to check it out for myself. One of my friends and I were looking to catch up, so I booked a table and off we went. While it can be tricky to get a reservation during prime dinner time, it's relatively easy to get a lunch reservation - or an early/late dinner. I managed to get a reservation for dinner at 9:15pm which was the earliest I could find. The restaurant is pretty unassuming on the outside - it looks like a converted brownstone and once inside we were greeted by a large space with a sceney vibe. The space is split between two levels with a large bar up front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The decor was modern - with lots of greys and neutral tones which was a little unexpected. The main star of the menu is pasta, but they also have a few non-pasta mains as well as some crudo selections, apps, and sides. We decided to get a few apps, two pastas, and one side. To start, we went with the octopus, roasted mushrooms, burrata crostone, and focaccia. These were all really good, but my favorite was the mushrooms. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but these were prepared with red pepper and fried egg and were delicious; it cut through the earthiness and changed the texture to something I really enjoyed. The focaccia was also a standout - it's house made and was paired with a peppery oil that complemented the bread well. For mains we split two pastas - the caccio e pepe and the rigatoni. Both of these were very good, though I felt the rigatoni was the stronger dish. It was prepared with sausage ragu, soppressata, broccoli rabe pesto, and pecorino. The flavors worked really well together and the pasta was cooked al dente. The caccio e pepe was perfectly fine, I just feel it's been overplayed and didn't feel there was anything that stood out amongst the others I've tried. We also got a broccoli rabe as a side which was great. We couldn't leave without dessert and decided to get their olive oil cake and quattro formaggio cheesecake. The restaurant is known for the former - it was perfectly fine but I've had olive oil cakes elsewhere of the same or better quality. The cheesecake was the stronger dessert IMO - the combination of cheeses gave it an interesting, almost savory flavor. The brûlée top and mascerated strawberries were great texture and flavor complements. Service was great - the place was packed but service was consistently on point and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good experience at L'Artusi. While everything was very good, I'm struggling to find the exact reason why this place became such a hot spot compared to other Italian spots in the city. Nevertheless, you'll have a good meal here and I would definitely return if given the opportunity.

The first thing I noticed was there were 7 people in my party and 4 arrived early and did not have to wait for my arrival to be seated. Second the waiter who took our order was polite and on point with specials and knowledge of the menu. He (just never caught his name) suggested the Rigatoni which chicken and sausage.
